I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this place (and specifically this location) My friend and I arrived around 6pm and they were super busy. The wait time for us was about 25ish minutes but we didn't mind at all (we just ended up hanging out at Starbucks next door until our table was ready). But I was quite happy to see they were busy regardless of the wait time. The location itself it's beautifully decorated inside and quite a bit of space too. The vibe of the restaurant felt relaxed and one that felt like would be good for a chill date night or something that would be nice for families as well with young children. The service was great. The staff were wonderful and although they were super busy, we could see all the tables were taken care off. Food (the best part): we weren't quite sure at first how it would be let's just say: it was AMAZING! Both of us had seafood dishes. I got the Linguine Soul which is served in a hot pot, and my friend got the Saffron Shrimp. The helping was actually pretty big. We both had leftovers after to take home but we loved the food a lot This is a place I definitely want to come back to and would recommend to others. Good experience and delicious food. read more

Our group of 10 haven't seen each other in years so decided to meet up at Jimoco Cafe & Pasta as the majority of the group lives near the Tri-Cities area. Rumour has it this location is the second establishment opened by the original owner barring the same name as the first location located on Austin Avenue not far away in Coquitlam. Original owner then sold this location and is under new management starting in 2019. We were greeted the first thing we walked in to the door by the manager Jessica who was very enthusiastic and super helpful in recommendations of food and drinks. Both our waiter Halley and Jessica took our orders, brought us our food, checked on us regularly if we needed everything, and were very proactive in clearing our done plates to make room for dessert. Our group ordered majority pasta dishes and were served first with garlic bread with real garlic pieces that made the most flavorful garlic bread I've ever had! All the pasta dishes were quite tasty and decently portioned, but would of liked to see a tad more for anyone with a healthy appetite for the prices they are charging. My family and I tried Jimoco on Austin Ave in Coquitlam long time ago. We realized the restaurant has a second branch in Port Coquitlam. We decided to try it. When we got to the restaurant around 11:50am, there were only two tables of customers. The restaurant was very quiet. We got a table right away. The server was very friendly greeting us and being friendly. He asked if we wanted hot or cold water. I think he knew Asian people like to drink hot water in winter, so he asked this question because Caucasian servers would never ask this question unless the customers requested it specifically. We looked at the brunch and lunch menus. All the dishes looked delicious and very attractive. We decided to order their pasta lunch combos. The combo included soup, salad, garlic bread, one slice of bruschetta, some popcorn chicken, and seafood linguine. It's a quite a lot of food. Pricing was reasonable and affordable. I looked at their brunch menu. The smoked salmon was $17+ a dish. But I had the same dish in Vancouver or Richmond. It cost $23! What a big difference! There is free parking in front of the restaurant, so it was great that we could park our car easily and conveniently. While we were eating the lunch, a lot of people came. Some had to wait at the front to be seated. We didn't expect there were so many people or customers. I hope this restaurant will continue running well. The lunch specials at Jimoco were a bit odd, but nonetheless excellent value! Definitely recommend coming in during lunch time for that. I haven't had this type of fried chicken with italian food before (see photo)... but it was actually pretty yummy. The bruschetta, salad, and soup were great! The pasta itself -- tomato seafood and spaghetti carbonara -- were pretty adequate. Did not blow my socks off but I enjoyed it, no real complaints :) Parking is aplenty and the service was friendly. read more

This restaurant always shows up on my suggestion list, but I have never tried it despite liking pasta! I was browsing on Uber Eats one night, came across this restaurant and decided to give it a try (finally!). I always thought this restaurant serves traditional Italian dishes so I was slightly surprised to find Korean Italian fusion dishes. We ordered 3 pastas (yes, we only had 2 people but your girl likes carbs!). Not only were they reasonably priced, but they also came with garlic toasts. I can't speak much of my boyfriend's pasta since I didn't try it, but I recall him mentioning it was "average only". I absolutely LOVE spaghetti vongole! Theirs was a decent portion with a good amount of clams. It was a touch oily, but flavour was present though a tad flat/one-dimensional. I would've preferred a touch more flavour. The description of the dish also includes spinach but I only found 3 strands of spinach. The butter soy mushroom beef pasta sounded like a delight. It comprises of everything I like - butter (who doesn't?!), mushroom, and beef. However, I found the dish a little too salty and soy heavy. Instead of the luscious butter soy flavour, the pasta resembles more like soy sauce stir fried noodles. The garlic toast was a nice touch. They were soggy upon arrival, but I think they would've been tastier and crunchy for in-person dining. Overall, I'm not blown away by this restaurant though I wouldn't mind returning if I'm craving pasta or a quick dinner! I'd be interested in trying out other items or cafe offerings. read more

With the same Jimoco name, the old location runs by the new owner and the original owner is operating the new place which is bigger and brighter but a bit further eastbound. Menu choices and prices pretty much the same (oh, the new one has more appetizers), food taste wise my gf prefers the original owner in Poco than the one in Austin Av coz she's more picky and I remain neutral... I usually go to the Austin location but was in the neighbourhood with my friends so we decided to stop by and check it out. The location parking was a bit hectic because Starbucks as well Ginza sushi and rainbow butterfly dimsum is in same building. We ordered the Linguini Sole, chicken parm, creamy risotto and a nice salad with balsamic! Food portion seems smaller but the flavours were excellent. Came back here to try it again and the pasta has improved a lot. We got the vongole, soul Blanco and roast beef sandwich. The pasta were cooked well and were very flavorful. They were loaded with lots of seafood. Unfortunately the roast beef was inedible. The meat was thick and tough. This is not roast beef. It's a steak and a bad one. The only saving grace are the caramelized onions and swiss cheese. This sandwich is not good at all. Tip is to stick to pasta but it is tricky as the price is 2 for 1. If you are an odd number then someone has to order something else or just get another for take out. Service was inattentive and bad. First, the server did not even give cutlery. Then we had to ask for garlic bread and remind her again. Other tables got their garlic bread but not us. And she had to ask how many? Hello? Just give a piece to everyone on the table. Does this question need to be asked? Had trouble flagging her to ask for ketchup as she was busy behind the counter chatting or using her phone. We even had to just get a knife from an empty table. Finally she asked if she can clear the plates and she cleared the one still with food! Other empty tables had dirty plates on them but she didn't clear them. Maybe she's just having an off day. This place was horrible. We had such high hooes for this place, but were highly disappointment. Went here on Saturday around 5p for an early dinner. It wasn't busy or anything. We were seated in a timely manner and got our menus. I think the only reason this place is full is because they have 2 for 1 pasta - too bad the pasta is gross. I always order a couple of simple dishes when I try a new restaurant. You should be able to make the easy stuff. Right? We started we with the calamari. Let me tell you, the tzatziki sauce was sour and the calamari batter was super weak. Do not order this! For my pasta dish, I ordered the Spaghetti aglio e olio (spaghetti with garlic and chili peppers). They ended up giving my pasta to the lady at the table beside me. She put fork through it and checked it out (she may have even tasted it) and told them that it wasn't her dish. I told her that I think she got mine. They took her dish back and said they would have a new one for me right away. 5 mins later - pretty sure they brought me back the same dish on a different plate, put a ton of cheese on top and just took her fork out of it - it went even super hot. Now I say because there's just no way they could make a whole new dish in that amount of time. Remember the chili peppers and garlic, well when i combed through the pasta, there was neither inside it, nor did it even smell a little like garlic. I asked a server and he kindly offered to make me a new one. I said yes and I left the "used" pasta dish at the table to make sure they didn't try to use it a 3rd time. Here's the kicker - the new one took 10 mins to make and cam out piping hot with no cheese on it. It was the exact same dish as the last one, but there were slices-not grated or minced- but slices of garlic(mostly raw) and pieces of red chili peppers in it. By then I had lost my appetite. I brought the leftovers home to precook tomorrow. All I feel like doing right now is puking. Absolutely disgusting. There has to be some health law against reusing a dish that someone has already touched. Do not come here unless you're okay with previously served food. Price point for food is good.Approximately $12-13 per plate of pasta. For vegetarian options, flavor is lacking. Vegetables seemed to be warmed up for vegetarian options as they were still crunchy. I came to this place because it was new, different then the vast amount of sushi places in poco, and close by. If you order dishes for example stews or ones with sausage tend to have more flavor. I ordered 4 pastas. The ones with meat were better in terms of flavor. When I place ratings for restaurants it is based on solely on the food. Never the service. Service: Needs improvement, it's very obvious the servers need more training. It is understandable that they are new and busy, but if I see the server taking two trips to provide cutlery and plates, I simply shake my head as this shows lack of training and experience. Also if my server asks me how my food is when the meal is completely done...sigh...also is my server offers to provide me additional cutlery and does not follow through then.... Sigh.... read more

We were just driving by and decided to try this somewhat new pasta place for dinner. I think the original location on Austin was a Yelp favorite so I thought this could be a good addition to the neighbourhood. The parking lot was packed so we thought we may have to wait for a table but we were surprised when we walked in to a modern dining room and was told we could choose any vacant table. We sat down in a questionably dirty table for four which had 2 paper napkins with just spoons on them...weird. (Other empty tables had random settings and condiments on them.) Menus were handed out as we ordered our drinks. The menu had plenty selection of pasta and Mediterranean type dishes. We also learned that it was a 2 for 1 deal hence the higher than normal price for pasta. I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with fussili in tomato sauce to eat and Linguine al Frutti di Mare to go. My party and I decided to order Bruschetta to share. We waited more than 20 minutes to get our appy. The antipasto was served in the middle of a giant plate surrounded by 4 toasted slices of Italian bread and a swirl of balsamic glaze. We weren't provided with small plates so we just spooned (good thing a small spoon was provided) the tomato mixture on to our bread and hoped that none of it fell on the table. The regular slices of bread were too big for the amount of tomatoes. Also the bread was just toasted; I didn't taste/see/smell any olive oil or garlic on it. I prefer having the tomato mixture served on the bread already so that the tomato juices and olive oil will penetrate the bread and having the whole antipasto topped with the parmesan and slightly grilled. It also didn't help that the antipasto was too cold (probably straight from the fridge) and way under seasoned. Normally I would be very annoyed if my main course is delivered just a couple of minutes after the appy but in this case I was almost thankful for something else to eat other than the failed antipasto and finally getting cutleries and napkins. HOWEVER they should have waited to take my main course to me as it was piping hot. I tried to eat my chicken but I almost spat it out as now I know what eating lava may be! When it finally cooled down, I tried it again and had to salt it twice to get some flavour in to it. If we had a pepper shaker or able to flag a waitress down to get one then I would've seasoned with that as well. The fussili pasta was over cooked and off-putting. The waitress never came back to check on us and no one came by to ask if we needed more drinks or even refill our water glasses. She never asked how our food was and if we wanted dessert when she cleared the table. We were there from 6:30-8pm on a Friday night (normally rush hour in restaurant lore) and the place never really got full. Now I know why. NOTE: I gave the seafood linguine to my brother and he said it was ok but there seem to be a few empty mussel shells and their former inhabitants were missing from the dish. read more

Sometimes you decide to give a place a try for an unusual reason; this was certainly the case with Jimoco Cafe & Pasta. After having seen their ads in our local newspaper, we had to try them because their restaurant name is, in part, my husband's name (Jim O'Connor). So on one of those evenings when we forgot to defrost something to cook for dinner, we headed to Jimoco. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor. The owners took what was a dumpy old convenience store and turned into a clean, modern space able to accommodate approximately 50 diners, they have kept the tables simple and bare with paper napkins, and only the cutlery you require for your meal. Despite having only been open a few weeks, we got one of the last remaining tables in the restaurant. It took a while before anyone served us, but once someone came to the table, the service was efficient and consistent. I did get the impression, however, that they were a little unorganized and seemed to lack a clear system for servers to manage tables. As for the menu, they have stuck to what seems to be a winning formula in this region - cheap pasta! Antons on Hastings Street in Burnaby has had nightly lineups for decades using this formula. I am actually surprised it took so long for others to copy the formula. Most of the menu is 2 for 1 pasta - you pay for the most expensive of your selections. This means that a couple can easily eat for under $30 if you don't drink alcohol (not an issue at this location because they still don't have a liquor license.) I admit to being a bit of picky eater; I wanted the seafood linguini in the rose sauce, but wasn't thrilled with the combination of seafood. No problem! They gladly created the dish with the seafood I wanted. My husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The food came out in a reasonable time and we were both satisfied. The portions were exactly right, meaning we could finish our plates, and were comfortably full when we did. In both our cases, the noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was good. Don't get me wrong, this is not a gourmet pasta house. This is a nice little place to get a decent plate of pasta at a good price when you don't feel like cooking. We have been back a second time - 7 p.m. on a Tuesday night and they were lined up - what did I say about a winning formula? The food and service were on par with our previous visit. This location definitely needs to finetune its service and processes - we saw a couple complain about having to wait too long for food, and we had to go to the bar and request the bill because after clearing our plates no came back to our table. As long as this doesn't happen too often, however, and the food is always consistent and affordable, I predict long line-ups for the long run. read more

Came on a Saturday for lunch. I like how this location has more tables than their Austin location. The food was alright.. portions were decent, but there wasn't much taste in the sauce. The waiter was very friendly. However, the restaurant was so small that you could hear people arguing in the kitchen. The poor waiter was doing his best to keep people happy and I could see the arguing was slowing down food orders to tables. He was very friendly and did his best though. This place may not be as authentic as others thought but the dishes are all very tasty, served right away, hot and nicely plated! The portion is decent and the price is just right. I have been going to the Austin location for the past 7 years and always had excellent experiences. The Oxford location is the complete opposite and after trying 2 times I will probably never go back. First visit I wasn't sure it the waitresses were having a bad day but the second visit confirmed it. Two-thirds of the servers are extremely rude and unattentive. The other one-third are okay. The servers seem to argue amongst themselves. Both visits I was seated but no one came to take the order for we minutes despite the place being almost empty and despite flagging down the server 3 times. Each time I was either ignored or told to wait. Both times I was with one or two friends and was there for a work lunch. I don't want to call any of the waitresses out but you will be able to know what I am talking about in minutes if you go there. Seriously I don't know what's up with some of those girls there. The Austin location is always packed with people always having to wait. The Oxford loacation is no where close as busy, probably because of the attitude customers have previously experienced. read more

Jimoco poco branch is their new extension from their home base at Austin. I was quite excited about this because it's closer to home and I've always been a regular customer since I've discovered their 2 for 1 pasta deal. My concern is their lack of consistency and speed of service when it gets busy. I've been experimenting lately with other pastas on their menu as it seems they've added or changed a few items. However, every time we tried something different I've been unfortunately disappointed. Lasagna is below average, not enough cheese and meat but the flavour was decent. There were others that I've tried that just wasn't impressive. I will stick to ordering our top 3 favourites (linguine soul, seafood risotto, chicken parm with pasta). Their pizzas is also good, surprisingly better than Spacca Napoli IMO. Hence the 3 stars, besides my top 3 I think they have to do some taste adjustments to the rest of their menu. read more

I have no idea what any of the above commentors are talking about, my pasta carbonara was a profoundly terrible experience. It may be because I got it takeout at 4 pm, but damn... They have a "2 for 1" pasta section. I quote 2 for 1 as they actually double the price of the items ex. 1 item is $12.95 if you get the 2 for 1 that item is now $24.90 which you are just paying the price of each individual item. From what I was told when inquiring about the billing is this is because of a new owners. read more
