I have only been a Victorian for 2 1/2 yrs but Jim's has been one of my fav places. They are on my way home so I found them shortly upon arrival. I rated them early on but was grumpy that day and slighted them due to what I considered slow service. There is a reason it takes longer than a major fast food place such as McDonalds (which I never eat at). It is due to the fact their burgers are among the BEST EVER! Always hot, fresh and delicious. I eat here frequently and highly recommend Jim's to all. It's worth a little wait to get one of the best burgers in town. Probably the best considering the price. Nice local place to come to. I was glad to find this place as I was in town for business and needed something local and not same old stuff that is everywhere. I had the fried chicken sandwich which was hot and had great flavor to it with tater tots that were also hot and fresh. I don't get it I guess. It was a burger comprised of frozen patties. I'm not from Victoria but saw the positive score on yelp so I figured I'd try it.The place was jam packed so I thought I was in for a score. After looking around I noticed everyone in there was old... I imagine the average age in the place was 68 or so. Frozen patty on a bun? They weren't even those "try to look real" frozen meat patties. The burgers, fries and drinks are delicious. It's a old fashion business owned by a family. These are cooked well and you have to wait. McDonald's or fast food it's not. Good fried onion rings and okra. Salads are expensive and really not worth the price. Burritos and Tex mex are not their forte. Most of the rest of the menu is good, but there are better even in Victoria. They do sell shakes that are good and ice cream. They make there living doing great burgers and fries. No great condiments, may find tobasco and chulla(?) if there not already out on the tables. This is not a Hopdaddy's; it a niche player doing burgers and fries. It does them very well. Prices are generally fair. The place is clean, well kept and well maintained. Servers are knowledgable, service is good; although you order at the register so it's not a classic sit down and have a server. What I've seen of the cooking is sanitary and I do not have problems eating here. Have eaten literally hundreds of times here over the years and not had any problems. Bathrooms are a little on the rough side. Good enough once your in the restroom but the door, especially the door lock on the mens bathroom remains unlockable. Just plan take the need for privacy somewhere else. Never had any problems with sinks, soap, towels. Always there. read more

Solid burgers!! I got a jims big burger with cheese. It was fantastic. Very juicy burger. It's a pretty decent size, I'm stuffed after i devour it. 3 year old wanted "bacon" for dinner so we asked if they could add bacon in a grilled cheese. They hooked up little man, and he ate his whole bacon grilled cheese. Hubs just got a big burger with onion rings and he ate every last bite, except for the onion ring I managed to steal. I was not very impressed with a dry thin hamburger patty. My burger was lacking taste. When we received our Burgers the fries were cold and chewy and the burger itself was at room temperature the one positive thing was the service was very nice and the people working there were very polite. read more

Okay, I have traveled all over this country and had some damn fine burgers. I am giving this 5 stars not because it is the best burger over all, but it is a great burger in it's class and probably the best in South Texas if not all of Texas. I wish I could explain why, but I cant. It is just something you will need to experience. So I had the Bacon Cheese Burger with everything but Tomatoes and Ketchup with a side of rings. I'm giving this place 2 stars based on nostalgia alone. It's a fixture in Victoria and known for big, juicy burgers by the old timers, so 2 stars for impressing Victoria 30+ years ago. Fast forward to present-day, and the burgers are dry, tasteless freezer patties. The fries are greasy, and the portions are small. Everything is a la carte, so it's very expensive. For a good burger that isn't comprised of a freezer burnt party and watery lettuce, head down the road to Burger Nation. Small family-run burger joint with engaging staff and (usually) prompt service. This used to be the place I go for a quick meal whenever I find myself in Victoria during lunch, and I remember being much more impressed by the food. Now, the burgers are a little dry and quite greasy, but still decently portioned. I do like the atmosphere of the restaurant though. It's always filled with families and the staff calling out to each other and announcing orders over the soft din of conversation is surprisingly pleasant. Adorable staff. Nice environment. In town for the afternoon and wanted a burger. Stopped in and it was a friendly place. Parking lot was packed. Lots of older locals love the place apparently. Fast and friendly. However, if you pay $17.00 for two cheeseburger meals I expect a little better quality. The tator tots and fries were very greasy, the large drinks were more like a medium and way to much ice, the hamburgers weren't very well seasoned and were thin, frozen, school meal quality burgers at least. read more

Yes it's no hopdoddy or in and out burger in San Antonio and Austin but it's a family owned business with amazing service and a burger that tastes like that uncle you got who's amazing on the grill--sides are what you expect: fried and heavy but taste amazing like onion rings and fried okra. During a high school trip to Corpus Christi, I arranged to stop at Jim ' s Big Burger, a great family business in Victoria. The owner, Amy, and her staff were friendly, efficient, and accomodating even though our huge group swooped in during the lunch rush. Our group of 77 students were in and out in about 30 minutes and everyone enjoyed their food, which was also a great price. I would highly recommend this business for large groups; just call ahead so they can prepare. Amy and her staff clearly love their jobs and they are good at them; despite being crazy busy, Amy even notice I didn't have a drive and insisted on bringing me one, then refused when I asked her to add an additional tip onto the bill. Lunch was a little over $10...tater tots, large dr. pepper and a double meat cheeseburger with bacon. Their bacon is huge! The buns are toasted and the patties are a nice size.
