Mmmmmm, breakfast! Eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns!
    David W.

The first time I ever visited Jim's Open Kitchen, I walked in, lasted about 30 seconds, and then walked right back out. You see back then smoking was still allowed in restaurants. And Jim's allowed smoking. But, fortunately, times change (as well as laws) and once I went back to a non-smoking Jim's I knew that this was truly an epic breakfast spot. Don't expect frilly crepes or weird granola, fruit, nut flax seed bowl thingies. This is breakfast. Eggs. Bacon. Toast. Butter. Lots and lots of butter. The staff is friendly. The place is clean. And I always feel like the same 4 guys are sitting at the counter any time that I go. For breakfast today I got basic eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. Eggs cooked exactly how I wanted them, bacon crispy, toast slathered in butter. The potatoes? Again, a butter experience. Boiled potatoes that are sliced up and fried in butter Yes please! The only negative? Coffee tasted a little burnt. I assume the pot was sitting out on a burner for just a bit too long. But a minor complaint to an otherwise awesome breakfast. Sadly I moved away from the Cleveland area several years ago. So I can't get to Jim's as often as I'd like. But when I do get back to Cleveland, and Solon specifically, Jim's is always on my list of places to go!

Old school. Nothing frozen, everything freshly made. The cooks are right there for everyone to see working the flattop like pros. The food? Well that's incredible. Corned beef hash that was shredded and crisp. Coffee. The Herb Nelson, potatoes, meat, cheese and eggs. Biscuits and gravy featured soft and light biscuits enrobed in a flavor packed sausage gravy. Not sure where this place has been all my life. The place is small and always packed but the good news is they've opened a second location in Streetsboro.

Excellent little diner in Solon. Small space but service was quick. The staff were all very friendly and treated us like we had been going there for years. The food was fantastic. We shared the Bananas Foster French Toast and the Herb Nelson with a side of Hash. Every was delicious and cooked perfectly. They hash was some of the best I've ever had and the French Toast was amazing. Perfectly Sweet without being overly so. We did not add syrup since it came with Carmel Sauce and Whipped Cream. It was perfect as is. The Herb Nelson is a scramble of eggs, home fries, bacon (or sausage) with onions and toast. Excellent! If you're in the area I would recommend checking it out!

Service and food were great. Pic is of mushroom Swiss burger, huge and tasty. Will definitely be back.

Jim's Open Kitchen serves up some of the best breakfast food I have had ever. And you don't have to take only my word for it, you can ask anyone that's in front of you while you're waiting in line to get a seat. As of the writing of this review, Jim's has been serving Solon for 60 years and I can't imagine they will ever stop. My wife and I enjoyed everything we ordered which included the country benedict, the ultimate Herb, and bananas foster french toast. I think my favorite was the country benedict.

I've loved coming to Jim's since I was in high school. It's a Solon institution. The Herb Nelson has always been my favorite. I decided to try the Ultimate Herb this time. It was delicious, but I think I prefer the regular because I didn't love the tomatoes/green peppers in it. My husband and I also got the Country Benedict and the Bananas Foster French Toast. Both were delicious. The Bananas Foster French Toast is no longer on the menu, but they still made it for us. It's a popular place, so expect a bit of a wait on the weekends. They move fast though, so it doesn't usually take too long. My biggest surprise this visit is that they now accept credit card. It used to be cash only. I try to come here every time I'm in town visiting my parents because I love it.

Been here before on a previous trip to Solon, Ohio. This is your old school, family owned, diner. Love this place!! They're only open for breakfast and lunch, hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They opened a second location in Streetsboro, Ohio. Service and food exceptional. I had the pancakes and my husband had the french toast, we both enjoyed our meals. Love their coffee and the coffee cups. You can't go wrong with this place, they're quick and the prices are reasonable. If your visiting Solon or just passing through, give them a visit.

First time visiting this local diner. Very crowded for a 10am weekday , but we waited about 20 minutes for a table. Waitress was pleasant and worked very hard to handle the rush. Booth and counter seating that is pretty packed in. Open kitchen format opposite of the counter. Great coffee. All the food was hot clearly just off the griddle. I enjoyed my basic breakfast. The potatoes were cooked well, deli sausage, and warm toast. My son loved his breakfast bowl. Great flavor. My daughter didn't care for her French toast but we didn't notice the menu said it was Texas toast. Very friendly people and good service despite the crowd. Highly recommend a stop here, it's worth a quick drive.

The Herb Nelson with a side of bacon. I should have gotten the half I couldn't eat it all.

Food was simple but good. It was seasoned just right and more than enough. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. It's small and you seat yourself but these are the kinds of places we like...that local feel. It smells good when you walk in because the food is good. The food came out quickly and was cook just right.

Overall, I had a good experience- however the items I got were partially bland or just average. Let's get into it: Drinks: my girlfriend got a smoked old fashion and I a skinny margarita- both were amazing! Their signature cocktails are only $8 during happy hour (only the old fashioned) and I love a great deal! Service: By far my favorite part of the experience. When we visited there were only a few other patrons but our waiter was informed, attentive, anticipated needs, and popped up at just the right times which I think is so important to keep the conversation and service going Food: I could have ordered the house salad and nothing else- it was DELICIOUS!!! I asked if the house dressing came in a bottle I could buy. I'm a salad girl and a great simple one is something I look for. I got the avocado ranch flatbread which was on happy hour and the elements were there but just not well put together. I ate two small squares and declined to take any home. My girlfriend got the steak frites - the cut of meat just wasn't great which could be a sign of our food issues as Americans idk. The tater tots weren't described as a n abstract form and came looking like some sort of popper with very little potato I would stop back in for drinks easily and the salad.

I wanted to get the brisket but they do it up charge so I decided to try a red bone instead that was one of my disappointments. It's not as flavorful and seasoned as the rest of the proteins so instead of paying two dollars for a ribbon I should've just got the brisket The green beans are pretty good I'm surprisingly but mac & cheese is decent too. My other slight disappointment is the variety of barbecue sauces but I think that comes down to a preference thing I like mine is more tan than sweet so I'm usually a Carolina barbecue sauce girl they didn't have that but they did have more tangy vinegar sauce, but it's very thin . My first experience was an online order and I my food was not ready for an hour, even though I was quoted 28 minutes through the app. I sat for over 30 minutes in the parking spot and finally a worker coming back from her break asked me if I'd been helped yet. So, I decided on the drive through from there on out. I had a few good experiences through drive through. One where I get home and have to come back because items were missing. I come back through after calling to complain and no apology from the drive-through worker (who was the one who originally fudged the order), just a "here you go". So, this time I leave work to get there a little after 7p, let's say 7:10p. I now have become accustomed to asking what they have left, but usually closer to close which is 9p. This day I ask if they have brisket and they say no. The disappoint hit me. Mentally, I'm like, ...what? Why? You don't close for almost 2 hours. Why is a restaurant known for its brisket, out of brisket so early? They actually tried to cross sell me on ribs, but there's no pork on my fork. Who responsible for the amount of food prepped each day? Do they not care about losing the business? I pulled off and who knows if I'll be back. It's a toxic relationship.

I always seek out the locally owned, non-chain spots with a lot of cars in the parking lot when not in a familiar place, and Glenwillow fit the bill. I can only speak to the lunches we had and what we saw some out of the kitchen, but I'd love to go back for a dinner date. Lobster bisque was delicious and came in a large bowl. We both had salads, he the greens and I the Caesar "side" salads. They were huge - these weren't the lunch menu salads, mind you - just supposed sides. I'm not sure I could've eaten anything other than soup with a salad that size! We saw burgers (also massive) and "Flatbreads" that were more the size of a medium pizza delivered to the patrons around us and all appeared excellent. Definitely recommend for lunch, and hope to experience a dinner there soon!
