Great experience at a great restaurant. Got there and was seated immediately before being handed a menu which looked to have about a thousand different items on it. I'm not kidding when I say that Jim's has everything. I ordered a ribeye steak and fried eggs, with a stack of blueberry pancakes and an orange juice. Our server, Kayla, was very nice. Before you go, it's worth noting that the restaurant looks as though it hasn't been renovated in 50 years, but that brings a lot of charm to it in my opinion. It could be a little bit more clean, but it's overall not bad. The food was great! The ribeye was cooked perfectly to medium-well (like I asked), and the blueberry pancakes were HEAVENLY. The eggs weren't great, unfortunately, but I didn't really mind. My friend loves Jim's biscuits, so, before I left, I asked Kayla for two biscuits to go for him. She kindly brought them over and said that they were free of charge! Overall, I'm a big fan of Jim's, and I would highly recommend giving them a try. read more

We went Sunday after church. I ordered the liver and onions. That was a mistake. The liver had the consistency that it was not well cooked, no gravy on it. The cream gravy on my mashed potatoes was congealed. My table mate had huevos rancheros. Her food was concealing. Both of our orders were cold. The most comforting of comfort food. I've been disappointed with Jim's as of late, but this location was fantastic. It was clean and though there was only one server the night we went, she was working nonstop and was absolutely on top of things. Needless to say there was a little bit of a wait, but our visit was still pleasant and our food was the best I've had from Jim's in quite some time. I ordered the Frontier Sampler Basket and it was everything I wanted it to be. The Fried Mushrooms did seem to dominate the majority of the basket, but the Mozzarella Sticks and Chicken Tenders held their own. The Mushrooms were juicy but didn't make the crispy exterior soggy, the Chicken was tender and delicious, the Mozzarella Sticks were gooey and tasted best with the Marinara Sauce, and the Cream Gravy was delicious as always. I'd been bummed out about the possibility of Jim's quality declining after my last couple of visits at other locations, but the food here really raised my expectations again. It really was Jim's at its best. I'd highly recommend this location to Jim's fans. The people I went with were also super satisfied with their meal, so I have reason to believe that you'll enjoy yours too. read more

First time here. I ordered coffee and glass of ice water. She brought my coffee cup with her fingers over the lip of the cup instead of on the handle. I said no offense but I'd like another cup and it served by the handle, like they instruct in food handler classes. She rolled her eyes but did as I asked and I thanked her. I placed my order of eggs and asked if I could get sliced tomatoes instead of hash browns. Sure she said. Ok I'll have the bacon, side of grits and a biscuit to complete it. Finishing my meal, I looked at my bill and there was a $1.79 charge for two slices of tomatoes along with the meal and coffee charges. I asked her if she would remove that tomato charge bc she didn't tell me there would be one? (.90¢ for 1 slice?) She said she didn't understand why it was on the bill (who preps the final bill for the customer?) in the first place and turned away with it but then turned right around and said no she couldn't remove it because I was only supposed to get one side with the breakfast plate. Well, I did get the side of grits, and the tomatoes were supposed to be in place of the hashbrowns. The menu doesn't say there's a charge for a substitution unless it was for a fruit. Things went downhill from there. I said I didn't think I should have to pay that because you didn't tell me there was going to be an up charge. She said well I'm sorry that's just the way it is and I said well then that's your tip then. and I went to the register to pay my bill and she followed me and kept bad mouthing at me all the way to the register and told me to never come back. The BLT was a big disappointment. The bacon was very sparse. Was expecting more than 2 strips of small bacon. Who knew bacon came in small Vienna Sausage size? The other meal was acceptable. Ate here with my buddy after a long day. We were one of THREE people that were dining in. The whole restaurant was empty so you'd think you'd get your food in a swift manner, and let alone it be HOT when you got it. Well...not at this location. The food we were served was COLD, they messed up my friends order which I don't know how you do when we were basically the only people there, and the wait for our food was longer than the time we took to eat it. Service was slow waitress seems distracted by those she knew or regulars. Everyone around us got there food even though we where there before them. Food was okay eggs dry I really think they sat under heat lamp as slow service from waitress. Pancakes good, but I ordered one and she brought 2. The ice tea sucked and waitress agree she said yes it seemed sour. Just clean the pot. Hash browns not crispy but soft. Overall food a 3 service a 2.5. I hate not to give a higher grade but our server seemed to feel we got what we got. My wife and I always go to the Jim's at Huebner Road and IH 10. The food is fantastic, the service consistently good, and the atmosphere extremely friendly. We are always curious as to why there are not more clients there since this is one of the finest eateries on the north side of San Antonio. We're do I start. I don't normally right a review but since I had such a bad experience i decided to. The hash brown tasted old the beacon tasted horrible like it was warmed up in the microwave. They didn't have biscuits because who ever made them the night before messed them up. That's what they were saying. I normally go to the one off of blanco or Perrin beital and the food has always been great. This Jim's really needs some help. Exceptional customer service. Our waiter was Florida. He told us that his real name is very difficult to pronounce and people just called him Florida. He was one of the best servers I've ever had in a long time. He was attentive and made us feel special. Florida told us many funny jokes and lit up the room with his positive attitude. He truly loved his job and it showed with the service we received. I got the Texas Omelet with hash browns and a big pancake. They filled the middle of the omelet to the max with bacon,sausage and ham. I added jalapeños and they didn't hold back with them either. I only have one negative thing concerning the omelet. I wish that the omelet had more of a balanced ratio when it came to the eggs and the meat. The hash browns were good but I really enjoyed the pancake. I ate all of the pancake and I took half of the omelet home. The food was worth a four out of five. The great customer service from Florida pushed it to a five out of five. Please go to this Jim's and hopefully you will get Florida as your server. You will be in for a great time. We will be back there again. read more

Mostly ok, nothing great. I don't think I can recommend this place over a Denny's or ihop, definitely not over a Waffle House. My wife was craving a monte Cristo and we couldn't decide where to eat, this place seemed like an old school diner so we stopped by. Turns out they don't have a monte cristo option, she for a fiesta omelette I think it's called, tons and tons of crushed tomato on top, way too much. They call this salsa. My daughter had the silver dollar pancakes which were good, but this order come with bacon but no eggs. Kind of weak. My son liked his chicken fingers. I felt extra hungry so I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast, it was cooked perfectly. Often my eggs over medium are not cooked right. The portion was good, but the flavor was missing, even the gravy and biscuits were very very bland. The hash browns were basically mashed potatoes. I doused everything in cholula and still the blandest chicken fried steak with gravy I've ever had. Save some money and time go to an ihop it just as good or better. The waitress while nice, never refilled our water, didn't give my kids straws and the place wasn't too busy. I made change at the counter for my kids to get something from the quarter machine, I paid my tab and tipped the waitress (about 20%). A few minutes later she meets us at the door and thinks we either stiffed her the tip or someone took it off the table, had to remind her I gave her cash. Very awkward. read more

Two stars because we were greeted and seated quickly. I feel like this was a one star experience other than that. Our party of 5 were seated at a filthy table. We moved over to the booth next to us, equally filthy. We brought it to our servers attention and they did nothing to make it better. Luckily we brought disinfecting wipes and could handle it ourselves. We were brought our menus and we noticed the menus were also grimy. So we had to wipe those down too. We ordered coffee for breakfast and were served warm coffee, we waited for our server to check on us so that we could request hot coffee. No one came after about 15 minutes. So we got up from the booth and asked for hot coffee. They did bring a fresh cup, which was.. still warm. They left the warm coffee, and spilled some on our table. They didn't clean it up. I've been to this location of Jim's Restaurant a few times now. The first time, I just got a chicken fried steak take out which was pretty good. I loved the white gravy. The next time I came here, I got their steak and eggs and treated myself to the ribeye cut. I know the picture makes the eggs look dry but trust me, it was not as dry as they look. The steak was actually a bit too fatty for me but still had remarkable flavor and definitely hit the spot. The waiter also gave me a taste of the cheese soup and my mind was blown. I don't know if it was because I was hungry or the soup was fresh but that cheese soup was absolutely amazing. The only time that the service was really suffering was when I went with a friend a few days after Christmas and it was absolutely wild. I'm guessing people were leaving to go back home from visiting San Antonio and decided to stop at the diner for food. It took a good hour for us to get seated and get our food ordered. I wrote to Jim corporate because of the horrible experience, and more importantly how Jasmine the manager could have cared less. When I called Jim's, her response was "well I didn't package it." Good is great. Charbroiled burgers, yummm. I ordered the chili cheese burger. Just the right amount of cheese and chili. It comes with a side of fries but you can substitute onion rings for an additional $.99. This trip, I was a little disappointed. Came in to celebrate my birthday and use my $5.00 given, graciously by Jim's. But was unable to use it because it had to be printed. I don't own a printer. No exceptions would be made. The building was old and in need of some cleaning. My wife did the women's restroom was terrible and would not be going back to use it. There were some people cleaning and the service was decent, we were seated right away and hit our drinks. I had a basic hamburger with fries and my wife had breakfast, this was at 4:30 in the afternoon. The food was fair, maybe a 5.8 out of 10 and could have been better. Jim's is open 24 hours. The most important part, the food, wasn't very good. The salad tasted like cafeteria food from public school and the blue cheese dressing tasted like ranch. The soup was way too watered down and greasy; I could see the oil floating about. So, the food itself deserves one star. The service, however, was exceptional. The waiter took great care of us, and gave us a free pie at the end because he accidentally dropped a plate near us when he was clearing the table. It could have gotten a bit hectic with a large group, but he took care of the situation very well. So, I bumped the rating to two stars rather than one. I probably won't go back, though. Simple diner I visit frequently due to food, and mostly the friendly staff. I'll typically pop in early Saturday morning's where I will order their buttermilk pecan pancakes (Y - U - M!!) I LOOOVE breakfast and have tried them at other restaurants and they just do not beat these. Generous amount of pecans, batter is SUPER tasty, very fluffy and cooked throughout. For years, my waiter has been Ebony, but due to COVID, there has been a lot of staff schedule changes so I haven't seen him yet, but hope I will soon. The other staff is really good too, I can't say I have any complaints against any of them. They always have a friendly smile (behind their masks, but I can still see it). read more

Went with some friends for breakfast this morning. There was a hair in my pancakes. Ugh. Didn't say anything to the waiter but wasn't happy and didn't want to ruin the atmosphere with friends. Service was barely acceptable. He brought out the English muffin out for our friend after we all had finished. Food was fine except for the hair. There are worse things in life. Our bill came out to $72 including tip. Kind of pricey if you ask me. Those are IHOP prices.
