Went with some friends for breakfast this morning. There was a hair in my pancakes. Ugh. Didn't say anything to the waiter but wasn't happy and didn't want to ruin the atmosphere with friends. Service was barely acceptable. He brought out the English muffin out for our friend after we all had finished. Food was fine except for the hair. There are worse things in life. Our bill came out to $72 including tip. Kind of pricey if you ask me. Those are IHOP prices. SMH. the service at this joint truly has gone down hill. It's a shame because I really like this place. The two employees in the front couldn't care less about customer service. I called 3 times before driving over to place an order. No answer. Once I got there. The "manager" in the red shirt couldn't care less about how long the customers were waiting. Completely ignored customers and was obviously upset huffing and puffing. Seems they were short handed and he made sure everyone knew that he was unhappy. I sat waiting for my food and called to see if they actually were busy or willfully ignoring calls. Sure enough the phone rang for 2 minutes as the waitress ignored it standing around. The red shirt guy made no attempt to direct her to answer the phone nor pick it up himself. Intentionally ignoring. SMH. Such a shame. When I walked up to place the order, he completely ignored what I said and told the waitress I needed his help as he walked away. I hate that ignorant and bad employees ruin great restaurants. Awesome! Have always loved this place and would eat here as a kid back in the 80's when we came to SA to play in Little League All-Star tournaments. I had the patty melt and it was OUTSTANDING! We were promptly greeted and seated by the friendly, attentive staff. They were very busy and were STILL great. Food came out hot and fresh! The wife had the CFS with eggs and hash browns. I had the patty melt w/fries. She loved hers and mine was excellent too. Prices were reasonable given the current state of inflation. We will definitely be back here on out next visit to SA!!! read more

I eat at Jims probably once a week for lunch. My neighbors wanted to go to breakfast at this location. The food was practically ice cold. The butter wouldn't even melt on the pancakes. My hash browns and eggs were cold. I went to the bathroom after our meal and couldn't believe how filthy it was. I'm not talking about trash on the floors, I'm talking dirty nasty floors and sinks. I don't think they have mopped those floors in a long time or used a cleaner on those sinks. It was disgusting. I told the manager and he laughed and said he would send someone in there. I told him it wasn't trash it was filthy dirty. He laughed again and repeated that he would send someone in there. He obviously doesn't have a clue. I'm always Leary of a restaurant that doesn't keep their bathrooms clean. It makes me wonder what their kitchen is like. Oh and I watched a waiter wipe a table. He didn't take the salt and pepper and Tabasco off so there was some gunk in the middle. He wiped everything off onto the chairs. An elderly couple came in and the man just stood there because there was stuff on his chair. He stood there for about 5 minutes. Another buss boy(man) came to clean the table behind them and didn't notice. I got his attention and asked him to please wipe the chair so this gentlemen could sit down. He was very nice and did. Me and my son was there yesterday for lunch. His burger wasn't cooked the whole way through. Our server was too busy playing in her phone to come check on us. I walked up and ask if they could cook it some more. She then said to a cook that we were complaining about our food. So 10 minutes later she returned to the table with a burger that still WAS NOT COOKED. She never came to ask how it was or to check on us. Never refilled my water either. When I paid the lady at the register ask how it was, I told her and she said nothing. Not even an apology was given. Tip was $0.00. The service and food were beyond bad and ridiculous. read more

I'm so very sorry to give this review, but there is no excuse for the bad food poisoning I endured. I'm not seeking damages or anything but I seriously want this restaurants health to be much better, I want the chefs to be absolutely cleanlier with their practice here, my symptoms all pointed to gastritis meaning E. Colin was present in my meal. I ordered the chopped steak, the over easy eggs, with hash browns, with an up-charged $0.60 pancake. The only thing that probably wasn't.. unclean.. was probably my orange juice. Maybe it's un-American or antibusiness like to be hard on an establishment since it was in fact 1:30 am, but I'm 25 and haven't thrown up since I was in about 5th grade. I did throw up 4 times in the waking hours between 3 and 10am, then I slept for the entire day and next night until morning, and it was my days off. I'm not sorry for this next part, my wife and her brother were with me. My brother gagged and threw up 10 times until 2pm or so, until the point of just getting up the same water he would drink to rehydrate himself, he had the Canadian bacon soup, with the bacon and ham sandwich. Then my wife ordered just a burger. I think you can guess from here. I've even contacted Frontier Enterprises @ 8520 Crownhill blvd to let Shirley Wayne know the story as well. I usually just eat breakfast here, Nothing amazing or out of this world but the pancakes are good. Service is always great, very busy little restaurant but it beats Ihop's prices. Even the people that walked in after us that sat right next to us even got served ...wow .. finally we asked the waiter if we can place our order she looked at us like we weren't supposed to be there. No issues with my food, not necessarily hot but still good. A few customers complained to our waitress that the food was cold. She took their plates to the kitchen and the cook yelled "You've got a microwave out there! I'm not remaking that shit!" That's not really something I want to hear come from the kitchen. If I wanted microwaved food, I would've made ramen at home. Kinda ruined the vibe. Our waitress was visibly upset by this but continued to stay nice and positive throughout the rest of our lunch. read more

Sunday 7/24/22 we went to Jim's for a quick brunch. When we got there yes it was steady but nothing the staff couldn't handle. We sat down fairly quickly. No one came to get out drink order for over 15 minutes. I should've known right then and there to leave but we didn't. I flagged a staff person down and they told me that our waitress would be with us in a moment. After another 10 someone finally came. They apologized like 10 times and got our drink order. When they came back we ordered our food. It wasn't a difficult order and it was just the 2 of us. We waited and waited and waited and waited. Over and hour went by and the waitress was very nice and apologized again. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore so I asked the waitress what was going on. She was practically in tears and said she couldn't believe what she was seeing. I asked to speak to the manager and he finally came and I explained to the manager the whole situation. Again, the manager apologized and offered to pay for our meal. I explained to the manager that I would take him up on his offer and that the waitress was great. I love me some Eggs Benny! A perfectly poached egg with runny yolk on top of a toasted English muffin, and a side of fresh fruit. What a way to cure that Sunday afternoon headache (hangover) with some really great service. The older lady with glasses is such a sweetheart and never skips a beat. Other standouts include the Frontier burger, their chili, and surprisingly their tortilla soup. My other half usually always orders the same thing, the chicken fried steak breakfast. When I ask him if it was good he just shows me his empty plate. Yeah, it was good. Drop a couple of ice cubes in that piping hot coffee so you can drink more, and if you want those delicious eggs Benny, you gotta get there before 3pm. There's a Jim's on every other corner here in SA but none of them can compare to this one. read more

I was a regular at this restaurant...was. Last night was the last time I will ever step foot in this place. My partner, who is handicapped, and I decided to eat there for dinner. We walked in and sat down in booth 32. I heard waitress tell someone that 32 was occupied...and good luck with that. I had a feeling this was directed at us. However, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt...until my ticket came...and I saw we were indeed in booth 32. I spoke with the manager about this. Of course he tried to reprimand me for "speaking too loudly". Since this is my my normal voice I find this insulting. Then he tried to convince me that it was all a mistake. Since one of the other waiters heard and saw the whole thing this was squashed. However, I am sure he was reprimanded for this severely since manager shooed him away like a misbehaving puppy. My only "sin" in this restaurant is that I want my salad delivered on a large plate to keep it from falling on the table. My partners sin is that he doesn't like burnt food. I also want to add that we tip well and don't really expect a lot. I guess it is too much to expect that we be treated with respect. This is the second and last time we will accept horrible treatment from this franchise. I am unwilling to spend my money in a place that allows this type of behavior. read more

Needed some breakfast on Saturday, so moseyed on over to Jim's. It was early, so no wait and we were seated in a mini booth. I ordered a hot chocolate and my hubby had some coffee. The waitress was super friendly and quick. I had the blueberry pancakes, with a side of poached eggs and bacon. The pancakes are HUGE! The blueberries were tasty and the syrup was warm. Yay! After a gut wrenching, soul stealing 45 minute debacle at Lulu's Cafe (we left without getting served), it was SuperHero Justin to the rescue. Many staff members working but not organized enough to clean the tables. Very disappointing. So I went to Jim's after I went hiking and it was a nice experience. The food was good and the price probably as well. Not sure as I was invited. Yes this was the 2nd time this week, maybe I was just lucky. Anyways I didn't see any of the issues other people had in this location. So I probably will come back when I am in the area. In the two years I have lived in San Antonio, I had never eaten at Jims, until the other day. This trip may have been inspired by a particularly booze-filled Friday evening. We ordered their home made cinnamon roll, warmed, with butter. One of the best cinnamon rolls I have ever had. My friend and I both ordered a simple breakfast with two eggs, hash browns, and bacon. The hash browns were not very tasty. Not a lot of flavor and I like my hash browns crispy...these were not. Jims is just like your average Dennys or IHOP. I don't consider it a stand out by any means, except for that cinnamon roll. I would like to touch base on our server. Her name was Mary. Here is my complaint: she was definitely older. I have NO problem with that. What bothered me was that I could see that the servers were not given trays to carry food or drinks. I watched Mary struggle carrying things to tables and it really made my heart go out to her. When she poured our coffee, she was shaking. I wish she was in a position that allowed her to sit or to at least be given a tray to carry things. I completely support having elderly people working somewhere. I think it is great that they are an equal opportunity employer. I would just like to see a little more support for some of the staff. read more

Worst place ever. No security in the parking lot. My car window was smashed in less than 2 minutes & everything I had in the car was stolen. I went in & asked the management to check the security camera, they laughed & said my car is the second was hit that night & no they don't have a camera, it's pricy !!! Went in during off dinner hours. Wondered why it looked so empty for a Saturday evening at 5:45. Got seated right away, took my order right away. I was able to see the kitchen and watched the staff stand around talikng while orders sat on the counter waiting for deliversy. One order was mine. After it sat over 10 mins, another waitress Eboney came ans askedif I was ready to order. I kindly let her know I was waiting for my food which has been sitting over 10 mins on the serving counter. After the order was brought our, the baked potatoe would not melt the nutter and the food had a cool glaze over the top. Needless to say I walked out nd will never go into this restaurant again. Stay Away! Been going here for years but wont be back. Went here and had the liver and onions. Don't complain about anything. The black manager will retaliate against you. My liver was requested well done and it was burned. Our salads including the tomatos and cucumbers were rotten. They dumped the cruton container crumbs on our salads. The fries were soaked in grease and were the remnents off the lunch bottom of the fry pan and were ice cold. We basically just left a resturant abused.
