Not satisfied at all after visiting twice after my initial review. This specific Black Bear Diner really needs to improve; and fast, before they go under. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and decor[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but the service and food are lacking severely. I visited on a Sunday, not busy at all. Waited maybe 30 minutes for our food to come out and our waitress did not come back a single time to ask for any refills. We also overheard another table that was also bothered by the wait time. I really wanted to like this place, but it has consistently disappointed me. Would not recommend.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning at 8:30a, so before breakfast crowd. Got seated quickly. Our server quickly came over to help. The menu has lots to choose from. Our server let us know all items were served all day besides the ones with a star. It took a minute to decide what to order, but I knew I wanted breakfast! The chicken sausage and pancake was my favorite from my order. The coffee was actually good too!! Keep in mind the plates have LOTS of food. I would definitely be back, more so for the customer service received.

Today's brunch experience at Black Bear was awesome. Our waiter Kevin was amazing. All of our plates were not only delicious. But, the portion sizes are plentiful. There's so many menu items to choose from. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our granddaughter got to take pics with their mascot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Don't forget to visit their little store area. We had to grab a stuff bear on the way out.

We dined in for breakfast again. We do love this place. They give large portions of yummy food. We got top notch service from Kevin. He's so friendly and kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was clean and kept up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our food came out very quick too

Christmas lunch was terrible! After being seated, our waiter, Michael was very attentive and apologetic. My daughter and I ordered our meals. I ordered the SPC LT Holiday Turkey Dinner which was a disaster. First of all, I understand the restaurant was very busy on this Christmas day. Anyway, my dressing was cold, the mashed potatoes were also cold and the toasted bread I ordered was white, not brown toast, so I sent the whole plate back. My new meal plate arrived, everything was correct except the toasted bread which seemed old and not fresh. I am a diabetic, was looking forward to a great Christmas meal but unfortunately the meal was terrible with exception of the green beans that were tasty. I ordered dessert but after the meal fiasco, I changed my mind and cancel dessert. My daughter ordered one SPC Holiday Prime Rib, medium rare. Her plate arrived with blood running in the mashed potatoes and her plate was cold as well. She sent it back. The new meal came and the cut of steak resembled a porter house steak. At first, from the shape of that steak. I thought it was liver! My daughter sent that meal plate back and ordered one DIN Pot Roast, which included 2 very large stalks of celery and large hard carrot cuts. Again, another fiasco. I felt sad for our waiter Michael because we did not want him to feel like it was his fault that the meals were cold and not properly made. Next, my daughter ordered a dessert, bread pudding, what a hoot!! The bread pudding arrived cold, served in an aluminum tin bowl, no caramel drizzle, no dollop of whip cream on top, looking nothing like the photo on their menu, of course we declined to keep the dessert also. So after speaking with one of the managers, she was very sympathetic to our meal fiasco and gave us some Bear Bucks ($25) to redeem and we thanked her. NOW, receiving the bill (laughing, laughing) our bill total was $109.42!!!! (Ha, ha, ha) We checked the receipt and after the $103.96 discount and adding the $25 Bear Bucks, our total was $5.90!! (Wala!!) Now, after carefully checking our receipt before paying the bill, we went over the meal items and my daughter was charged for Two SPC Holiday Prime Rib dinners at $59.98 each when she only ordered one SPC Holiday Prime Rib dinner, but one of the dinners was subtracted (minus) from the receipt. After this Christmas fiasco, we stopped at Jack-in-the Box and got tacos, etc. RECOMMEDATION: ALWAYS check your receipt before paying at any meal establishment. Inform management of any difficulties with your meal instead of eating and disliking the meal or not liking the meal and still paying for a meal you did not like and silently complaining after you still paid for the meal, that's why managers are present to assist the customer.

I've never heard of Black Bear Diner before, but apparently it's a chain that originated on the west coast. I loved the decor with all the bear motifs inside and outside. Food-wise, I think people enjoy the "large" portion sizes, but I personally don't think the quality is as good as actual standalone diners. (It is a chain restaurant, of course.) I got the California omelette with a side of fresh fruit. The omelette itself has avocado on top, with mushroom and cheese inside. It wasn't the best omelette I've ever tasted, but it also wasn't terrible. The fruit was surprisingly fresher than I expected, but the biscuit was quite dry and crumbly. For the overall quality of the meal, I thought it was overpriced ($13.25). The food itself is filling, but you can also tell that it's not the healthiest. Service was prompt and efficient. I probably won't return as I'm not a huge fan of diners to begin with. And this chain diner surely did not impress me by any means.

    Destiny E.

My friend sent her young daughter for some change and the old lady had so much attitude when telling her no they couldn't give out change (was going towards the waitress tip!) that it literally had her daughter on the verge of tears. Then the grandpa got sent over to sort it out and AGAIN this old rude ass lady gave even MORE attitude telling him no they don't do that. Then when speaking to the manager aside from saying he was confused why she didn't do it because it is something they can do? he seemed very nonchalant about it all which was even more frustrating. Overall crappy people at this location.

Good Food. Great Service! Food was delivered fast after the order was placed. Waitress didn't take notes, but she got it all correct. Chicken Fried Steak breakfast was cooked properly. Crunch on the breading was nice, Eggs cooked perfectly. But the hash browns needed a bit more on the cook. Watch out for the biscuits as they are not normal sized. Tender in the middle, fall apart if not careful. Grandma's biscuits still take the ribbon Definite return in the future!

Busy night at Black Bear. Is waiting fifteen minutes for the table to be ready was necessary?
    S P.

This place is a joke. With two other options in San Antonio, avoid this location at all cost. The service is appalling. Waited several minutes with no help only to be placed on a fifteen minute wait list. I guess Kevin felt overwhelmed with the eighteen people in this restaurant. I counted since I had so much time. The young lady with glasses who apparently is the front help, decided to finally do their job and took over for Kevin in submitting a name and phone number seemed to lack the knowledge to use the software and definitely lacks the ability to listen. Had to speak so slow. It also seems ridiculous to use the software being the only one waiting to be seated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most of the tables were done with their meals. One larger table was being served food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been to several Black Bears in numerous states and this was by far the worst experience I've had.

After that, it took another 15 minutes before we were acknowledged for water. I ordered a juice which came some time later. The server eventually took our order and shared she didn't know if what we ordered was even available. After taking our order, several other tables arrived and our server failed to return to check on us. We also noticed another customer who arrived after us got served their meal promptly, but only after they went inside three separate times to very loudly complain. To be fair, that customer arrived with a chip on their shoulder. After over 30 minutes, the server finally retuned and told us they never entered our order and asked if we still wanted it. We stated we wanted to leave, but then she pressed us to pay for my drink order. I was surprised, but agreed to pay. She took my cash payment and rushed inside to check with her manager. She returned my cash and said I didn't have to pay, but never apologized. The only high point was that another staff member noticed how hot it was becoming and set up an umbrella, which definitely helped. This could have been just an off day, but I won't be returning.

My husband and I had been trying to eat at Bobby's Southern Kitchen for at least 2-3 years. Every time we'd stopped before, the wait was around 2 1/2 hours, and since we were always passing through on our way home to Houston, we never had enough time to stay. This time, we planned our morning around finally getting to eat here. We had spent the weekend in San Antonio and were driving to Dallas before heading home, so we made a point of arriving shortly after opening (a little after 8:00 a.m.). There was no wait, we were seated immediately, and our waitress was wonderful. I wish I could remember her name because she was friendly, attentive, and did everything she could. Our food came out quickly, probably within 15 minutes, but that's where things went downhill. The food wasn't hot. Mine was warm enough to eat, but my husband's breakfast was actually cold. His hash browns were cold, his sausage patties were cold, and since he's someone who really enjoys his food served hot, it immediately ruined the meal for him. We let our waitress know, and she came back to take only the hash browns from his plate. That surprised us because most restaurants would prepare a fresh order rather than reheating part of the original meal. When the hash browns came back, they still weren't hot enough, so unfortunately they didn't solve the problem. For me, the food itself actually had good flavor. I ordered the sausage biscuit with soft scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and a side of grits. The biscuit was good, the eggs were cooked just the way I like them, and the grits were honestly one of the best parts of the meal. They were creamy, had a great consistency, and were well-seasoned with really good flavor. If everything had been served hotter, I honestly think I would have loved my breakfast. My husband ordered a simple breakfast with eggs over medium, toast, sausage patties, and hash browns. I don't necessarily think the food itself was bad I think serving it cold completely changed his experience. What makes this especially disappointing is that we arrived shortly after opening, so we expected everything to be fresh and piping hot. I honestly don't know what happened that morning, but after waiting years to finally try Bobby's, it just didn't live up to the anticipation. The service was excellent, the food had good flavor, and I truly wanted to love this place. I just can't overlook being served a breakfast that wasn't hot, especially first thing in the morning. I hope this was just an off day because I'd like to believe our experience wasn't the norm.

It's definitely a gluttonous meal, but I split it with my buddy and it was absolutely worth the calories and carbs. Every bite delivered exactly what I was hoping for. It's worth stopping by Bobbie's Southern Kitchen for the Morning Wrecker alone, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic. The service was great and it has that bustling diner feel.
