Really wanted to like this place. Tried hard to wait forever to get food. But patience is not enough. Food really bad if it was even hot. Fish dry and overcooked, blackened shrimp looked like it was leftover from a fire, green beans were to be corn, sweet potatoes were rotten. Thank god I was warned by the table next door but took a bite and sure enough it was rotten. However the manager disagreed. Staff friendly and the poor server did alot of putting out fires. We think whoever was in the kitchen needed help, desperately another 2 hands at very least. Everything took forever and we weren't the only table looking and waiting. We were told it never used to be like this. Guess 2 cooks recently quit and another is on overtime. But there were plenty of servers. Lots of dining rooms here too. BRing a sweater, it's cold and a full stomach, not sure you will be eating. read more

One of the BEST diners outside of New Jersey. Wifie and I stop here at least 2-3 times during our 'wintering' in San Antonio. I often over-tip at excellent food shacks. Wifie and I miss all of the shuttered NJ-Diners lost over the past 3-8 years. 410 Diner--You're doing it totally correct. Good menu choices, very reasonable prices, great service from table attendants and background team. love the pictures of places I don't know--but it adds to the ambiance experience in the dining facility. Recently, Dad and I had a Daddy-Daughter lunchtime together. We had passed by 410 Diner many times but hadn't tried them until last week. It was like traveling back in time to the good old diner days. Mary was our sweet server. Dad and I shared the Bowl of Mushroom Artichoke Soup and Dinner Salad. We also shared the huge Club Sandwich. Dad wanted a fried egg, and they gave him two! It was all so much food, even with sharing. I couldn't resist and had to try their Blueberry Pie. Yum! I brought home a slice of Cherry Pie for my hubby. Everything was fantastic and enjoyable. Highly recommend! Make room for their pies. read more

When you walk in you feel you're going back in time to "Happy Days" the decor was very nice and very eclectic. Our waitress Carrie was awesome. She made us feel at home and was very attentive. We had the oyster po boy and fried pork chops. The only issue I had was the pork chops were so thin you could see through them. The mushrooms were excellent and tge corn bread was amazing. This is my go to place since maybe 15 years plus. The ambiance makes it feel like back in the old days especially with the friendly hospitality. My mom and kids always enjoy going as well. I am a creature of habit and love the California chicken with fried zucchini. Salads are always fresh and if you're lucky enough to try the fried broccoli. Today we met Kennedy and Junior and they provided top notch service. Hopefully we see them when we go back which will be soon. read more

This place feels genuine as far as diners go. It has character. I think it is a one of a kind place and not a chain. The food is diner food so based on that disclaimer it is pretty good. I ordered liver and onions which was good but I'm weird because I like liver. I got stewed cabbage and something else as my sides. The cabbage was good for what it was. A nice old school diner with tons of options and friendly service. We were traveling from out of state ended up here for a mid afternoon gathering of 25 or 35 family. They actually had a back room to accommodate and they served alcohol, I was so surprised. I'm not entirely sure how many official servers we had, but we were visited often by so many of the staff as well as the owner. Everyone was so on top of everything. There were a ton of us and only a handful of minor errors. The menu was ginormous! It's almost overwhelming, but appreciated. Our little family wasn't too hungry, having eaten lunch not long before, but we all enjoyed trying a variety of appetizers. The sandwiches were large with generously portioned sides. Everyone appeared happy with their food and drinks. When traveling and/or just in the mood for good food in a no-fuss comfortable atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit. read more

Great casual place for home-cooked comfort food. Decorated at 1950's diner complete with neon signage. Personally love the bright red pay phone on a wall. Cozy bar area. I had a chicken breast - they had about a half dozen delish ways to top their moist and tasty chicken - I went with queso, guac and salsa. They serve soup every day - I love the mushroom artichoke combination. My husband went with the perennial favorite: seafood platter - 2 large fillets, shrimp, hush puppies and 2 sides of your choice! He brought home a filet and fries for lunch today. The complimentary cornbread is the bomb!! Ask for honey to get the chef's kiss on that cornbread. Usually too full for dessert - but fortunately they will pack up those great slices of pie to take home and enjoy later. Love this cafe and the friendly efficient staff. read more

This slim latina server tonight was the worst I have had here in 35 years. She forgot our drinks twice. I believe she ordered our chopped steaks medium well. They were like hockey pucks. We had to ask three times for cornbread, butter & honey. She tried to serve food reaching Over our plates of food. NEVER! Then we had to ask another waitress for our check! Went to the 410 diner the other night to celebrate an anniversary of a family member. Food was decent and for the most part flavorful. The Durango chicken was a site to be seen! The only complaint about the food is that the egg blt was cut up into such tiny pieces. I noticed that the general population of the restaurant was of an older demographic but personally I need something more to hold onto. Our waitress was really nice and helpful but the service in general took a little while to get our food and get eating. However the restaurant was pretty full. Ambiance: it gives that older dinner feel but also during the day it almost looks abandoned. Maybe the place needs an uplift to cater to the customer base coming into the location. We got greeted once we walked in and sat down. The atmosphere was old school, back in the day simple life. I got the fried chicken fingers, which come with 2 sides. I got mashed potato and green beans. It was so good I ate it all and forgot to take a pic beforehand. The chicken fingers come with gravy on the side, and it comes 6 to an order. It was all delicious. No complaints on the quality of food. I ordered a sweet tea, but if you want a to go cup, they do charge a small fee for one. I wish they kept theirs old prices. It used to be 9.95, but it ended up being 16.95. I don't know if it's worth 16.95, but it's nostalgia for me cause my kids were young when started going there, and now I have teens. It's been a long time since I visited this San Antonio icon. So many options from seafood to salads and chickens to burgers. More than a dozen veggie sides. I love almonds so today I ordered the Chicken Almondine with green beans and Sonora casserole sides. Imagine the thrill when the plate was literally covered with almonds .. the sauce was so simple but perfect. The color of the green beans was a vibrant green ... super fresh they were. Sonora casserole is this mix of tomatoes, corn, zucchini, chiles, cheese and sour cream. Yum! Pictured is one of the veggie plates. You can get 3, 4 or 5 bowls. The service was fast and friendly. PS. It has been years since we visited this iconic 50s Diner. It still serves good comfort food and more veggie sides than any other place in town. Today I counted 20 different veggie choices on the chalkboard PLUS fried zucchini, fried okra and fried mushrooms. We started with the fried zucchini. It was crispy, hot and delicious. A large basket came with both gravy and ranch dressing. My husband had a BLT with egg in the sandwich. The sandwich was huge and had fresh lettuce & tomato. I had the chopped steak with mushroom gravy and 2 sides. It also came with sweet cornbread. They offer several different dessert options but we were too full for dessert. No way could we eat it all. The portions are generous and service was great. The food was all great. The only drawback would be if you are trying to limit your fat and/or salt intake. Comfort food is not diet food. We enjoyed everything about this place including the 50s music. Our total ticket for 2 people came to about $50. read more

The food was okay. I got the three veggie plate and subbed one veggie for the mushroom artichoke soup, which was the star of the show. It was creamy and flavorful, like cream of mushroom soup but fresh, not canned. The butter beans and Sonora casserole were just meh as was the cornbread. I think that plate cost about $13 which was completely ridiculous. Very small servings of veggies and not much flavor. By a stroke of luck, they accidentally brought two cups of the soup (one before my meal and one with) so that made up for the so-so veggie dishes. Charlie got hamburger steak with gravy and potatoes, fried okra. Good flavor-he ate it all except the cornbread. . It cost about $15. Tip: ask for real butter and they'll bring it to you. I had a garden salad with fried chicken. The fried chicken was overly salty. It tasted like something you get in a nursing home. The salad portion was enormous. I don't know who could possibly eat that much salad in one sitting or want to take something like that in a to go box. This was my second time at 410 Diner and it was the same sort of thing. I won't return because the food was just okay, but I do want to mention that the service was wonderful. The clientele there is older (probably why they oversalt the food) and I could hear and see the servers very politely and sweetly talking to elderly customers. read more

A true hidden gem here in San Antonio! The vibes here are just immaculate. 410 Diner is the epitome of an "80's-does-50's" diner. Food is fantastic: the vanilla shake was probably theeeee best I've ever had, (yeah, in my life!), and the breading on my chicken fingers was light and crispy, like panko! Service is friendly, cheerful and prompt. All the employees are on task, ready to serve and enjoy working there. You can tell all the interior decor has been lovingly collected over time, and the music is truly what brings the atmosphere and nostalgia full circle! Very special place with lots of heart and soul: I felt happy just sitting there! I would love to see some classic car shows/meets organized here with local car clubs. We also got to meet the owner briefly on the way out; he seemed like such a nice, caring man -- I read on the website he still makes all the fresh soups and salad dressings himself daily! I love that he is still present and active in his business after all these years; he is committed to keeping this dream and the retro diner experience alive for past and future generations alike! Side note: the art deco style building is truly one of a kind, (not to mention very well maintained) both inside and outside. The diner caught my eye several times when driving by recently during the day, but it always looked closed to me because of the reflective privacy wrap on the windows and bare-bones exterior; maybe a suggestion for management since other potential customers may have thought the same: making it easier to see through the street-facing windows (to see the cute decor and patrons enjoying their meals!) and putting in some planters or bushes out front would make it feel more inviting from the outside! Definitely give this retro place a visit! The neon sign, love it! Friendly service, good menu offerings, and the retro facade and interior - it's as if the place has never been remodeled! This feels like a classic diner, as if you're in the movies or some old television sitcom! We had a few plates among us, burgers, fish, and milk shakes. Everything was delicious, and the sides that are offered are a long list, so be ready! Milk shakes are hand-mixed and served in a classic glass, this was a nice touch. This is an unsung hero of San Antonio. First, this place is often packed despite the implication of the star rating, mostly because the most loyal patrons aren't mostly yelp writing folks, this place has been here for 40 years, owned by the original owner who you can see running everywhere on any given day. The place is spotless, as evidenced by the 100% health code score posted behind the bar. Some of the staff has been there for decades. My first time here I had Deans special with Sonora casserole and black eyed peas. Fish was fresh, and the sauce was perfectly buttery and flavorful. The Sonora casserole is a must try and could be a meal in and of itself. Anything fried is perfect here. The French silk pie is to die for. I had a hamburger today that was perfect. Mind you, they were short staffed today and the internet was down yet my entire party's food was just as good as ever. There is something for everyone here, they have a full bar, and this man has put his lifetime into the 410 diner and it shows. I'm an at least once a week patron now. read more

I ordered the daily special meatloaf (a slice with some cheese on top swimming in a sea of red spaghetti style sauce). It came with 2 sides so I got the Sonora casserole and green beans. Green beans were fresh and tasty (a little too much butter but I know people like them like that) and the casserole which is a combination of zucchini and corn in a red sauce with a dollop of sour cream, scallions and some chips on top. Nope. The cornbread on side was good. I also ordered the French silk pie (not made in house) . It was not defrosted and was covered in fake whipped cream. The location is iconic and very much a 50's diner vibe. I'd say a burger and fries are what to order here for lunch. I really like the old school diner vibe this place has, it is nostalgic but not overbearing. The staff is very friendly and polite. There are menus written on the walls in pretty colored chalk and there are a lot of good menu options. Seafood, sandwiches, burgers, shakes, mixed drinks, pies and cakes....the variety is a perfect combination of sweet and savory. I highly recommend the dessert menu.
