Second time calling on Jim's for help, but this time it was more of an emergency. My main water line had a leak and while I suffered no damage inside (thank goodness for a working sump pump), I knew I needed help immediately. HP was there a few hours later (on a Saturday), called WSSC, explained next steps including hooking my spigot hose to my neighbor's so I would have water, and then we were off and running. His team took extra care because my driveway is brand new (zero damage) and dug up only the small piece of lawn that they had to in order to replace the line. They were prompt, efficient, effective, and finished the job within a couple of days. I would recommend them! read more

Our house is 24 years old and one afternoon I started to feel water dripping on my head. I looked up an saw wet drywall. I removed some drywall to see where the water came from and just could not figure it out. I called Jim's and they came out the next morning. HP removed some more drywall from the ceiling and found the leak and figured out how to stop it from happening again. The leaking plumbing pipes were a spiderweb of PVC that needed to be removed and re-built. HP did an artistic job with the fix and it was completed in less than 3 hours. So glad I called and happier that I did not need to wait for hours or for a second person to come out and try to figure it out. Thanks Jim's!!! read more

We called Jim's, Inc. because they were recommended on our community listserv, but I found out later that the person who posted the recommendation also did the artwork on his vans and is a former employee. We were in the middle of a remodel and had to let our previous plumber go. H.P. quoted us $$2600 to install and plumb two drop-in porcelain sinks and repair the plumbing to our bathtub, which had burst during a hard freeze. There were other tasks needed, but we finally gave up because he would show up and work for a couple of hours at the end of the day and not finish and not return for several days. After three visits, he told us he needed to charge us for the work he had done so far, which was still not complete, and the total was now $3100 with no warning. He had not done any work that was not included in the original quote. A few days later, he started calling us because he thought his tech had left tools at our home. I looked all around for them and instead discovered a pile of debris they had stashed in a crawlspace behind our closet. In addition, when H.P. first arrived and we explained what had happened with our previous plumber, he said "what is he, Hispanic?", which we found extremely off putting. My toilet and shower overflowed and flooded my bathroom. Fortunately for me, Jims Inc is a plumber that services my neighborhood regularly. They were next door helping out a neighbor and I went to talk with them. Not only did they respond immediately, they were absolutely wonderful in every respect! My plumbing problem was fixed that day! The plumbers were so nice and helpful. They were meticulous with their work and cleanup was perfect. They called me the next day to make sure that everything was working well. I called them on another occasion to fix other things and their workmanship was perfect. They were here on time and stayed until I was happy with all their work. They went over everything with me-what they fixed, what needed to be fixed and made sure that I was happy with their work. Again, their clean up was impeccable. And they are nice and courteous and their follow up is perfect. I recommend Jim's Inc to anyone who has a plumbing problem or emergency. Ann J. read more

My recent experience put Jim's Plumbing and its owner HP and the TOP of my "who to call when in trouble" list. My project was not an easy one, make more space in a laundry room that has been too small for 25 years. When I first called the office, I was assigned a tech for the next business day, no problem. The owner call me personally to ask a few more questions since the job was out of the ordinary. After further discussion, he cancelled the tech and came to my home himself. After further review and explanation, HP (Hamid) discussed how he would do the job if it were his own home. The job was done perfectly and on time and on budget, no hidden costs. We've used Jim's for years and always received service that goes above and beyond. Just recently, the night before a vacation, we discovered a leak in the kitchen sink. A few corrections to your response. 1) the basement was unfinished. We had not done any framing and was relying on JIM'S to evaluate what was needed. 2) Jim's was aware of the leak and came back but was unable to fix it. 3) the flat rate was for a full bath with a walk in shower but we were later told it did not include a shower door. Again, we would not recommend the company. They might be able to unclog a toilet but not able to do a bathroom installation. read more

Update: after posting this review I was contacted by JIM's Inc and was finally issued a refund. I had a plumber come out to provide an estimate on relocating my gas line and was told the estimate would cost $49, which would be applied towards the work. The estimate was delayed, and after three weeks and multiple phone calls, I was told the plumber lost record of my visit and a second appointment would need to be scheduled. Interestingly though, the $49 check I provided at the estimate wasn't lost and was deposited a few days after the plumber came to my house. Because of the back and forth and the lost record of the initial visit, I lost trust in the company and asked for a refund of the $49 estimate fee. I was told a check would be sent to my address. I waited for weeks and just about gave up on getting my money back. However, I did receive a response to this post and have finally received a full refund. read more

Astronomical prices for simple fixes, misleading assessment of problems to be solved. In March 2016 a technician from Jim's Inc. (We think it was Gus) provided a quote for about $860 to repair a leaking sink. He said he would need to remove the entire under-sink cabinet to reach the leaking part and it would take several hours. My husband, who has no plumbing training, purchased the repair part for about $37 and fixed it himself by reaching an arm through one of the drawers. This month, Gus gave us a "value rate" quote for $967 to repair the center stem of our shower assembly. He justified the price by stating that our knob assembly was generic and he couldn't get replacement parts, so he'd have to replace the whole assembly which would take several hours. He added that three-knob shower assemblies aren't standard any more because they don't have scald protection, and he claimed there was only one high-end brand we could replace the knobs with. A quick visit to the Home Depot website showed that three-knob assemblies like ours are actually standard, and they cost around $50-60. But it turned out they didn't even need to be replaced. Another plumber looked at my photo of the knobs, picked up a standard center stem replacement part for $10 at Home Depot, and fixed the problem in 20 minutes. If you use Jim's, be prepared to pay up to 100 times the value of the service provided. read more

I have been using Jim's Inc. for about 15 years and have been especially grateful for their prompt service during plumbing emergencies. Under the ownership of Hamid Pourifarsi (H. P.) there is excellent coordination between the office and the tradespeople in the field. Written job estimates are done without delay and the details are presented clearly. Recently, I replaced a badly rusted emergency water shutoff value which JP noticed as being close to failure. I also replaced a kitchen faucet and put in a new exterior hose faucet for my garden. I am quite happy with the work done by JP and his assistance. They wore masks and worked efficiently answering all my questions. I feel confident calling Jim's Inc. for my home repairs under JP's management; he values his customers and makes a point to oversee that all work is done to a high level of expectation and to the customer's satisfaction. read more

Completely professional job. H.P. is a master plumber. Even fixed a problem with a toilet not being seated correctly without being asked to. Reasonably priced for the work. No surprises. This is probably the worst service provider in the DMV area. The owner, Hameed (I think), is as nasty and obnoxious as it gets. He came to my home and told me "I can give you 5 mins to get here or i am gone". I asked for 10 mins and he then flared up. The language he used after that cannot be described here. I also responded in kind. Then he called cops who basically told him to call some number and the cops left. He didnt provide any service, rather sat in my driveway for 40 mins to wait for the cops! That's low IQ. I don't want to waste my time on writing details worth 20 mins of a read. Suffice is to say, their low ratings and reviews makes total sense. BEWARE. NEVER USE THEM. read more

Prompt and very straight forward with the situation. I was looking to redesign my kitchen and bathroom and they gave me a very reasonable estimate for the changes. I'm impressed with their willingness to listen to my concerns. They took care of any of the problem's that came up without charging me extra and only said anything to let me know what was going on. The only complaint i have is that they could have been a little more punctual with time, but the overall result far out shadows whatever timelines errors which occurred. The end results were absolutely marvelous and I know exactly who to call next time. I recognize the review of a previous customer and I feel that it is unfair for that person to have given them such a low rating before and to be the only rating currently for such a small company. I can't say what the company was like 4 years ago but in my personal experience they have definitely improved whatever service was lacking in this difference of time. read more

H.P., who is the owner of Jim's, came out to our house on a snowy day while the rest of the world was shut down. I called several plumbers and no one wanted to go out on the roads, but H.P. said he would come. I was very impressed because we weren't even existing customers. He explained the plumbing issue to us clearly and quoted us a fair price before starting the work. The problem is now resolved and H.P. gave us some useful information on how to care for our pipes. H.P. made the extra effort to get to our house on a day when no one else wanted to, and now he has a new customer! read more

Had an emergency this morning with my gas water heater. It leaked water in my basement and ruined my carpet. With no service contract it is hard to get a plumber's attention. Not Jim's Inc, spoke with Michael and Jim was dispatched in the afternoon. They fixed it without replacing the 9 year unit. I would recommend Jim's with high standards. Also just signed a service agreement with him which was my decision. Great Job!! read more

This isn't a complaint as much as something to be aware of regarding Jim's. All in all, I've had a good experience with this company. However, I have some concerns about their practices concerning the 3 year preventive maintenance agreement I bought last year and perhaps this will serve as a warning to others who have purchased such an agreement or are considering it. Based on a neighbor's positive recommendation, I contacted Jim's to do a winter inspection of my furnace last year. They did some maintenance for a reasonable price and then offered me their 3 year service agreement. It isn't cheap but at 2 visits a year, winter and summer (heat and AC) it amounts to a small discount compared to 6 visits without the agreement. I contacted them about a winter check-up this year. They were able to come the next day. The technician was even early. When he was done, he told me that this was the last visit under my service agreement and asked if I wanted to renew. This puzzled me as I was certain I signed an agreement in 2017. I pulled my copy of the agreement and next to my signature was the same technician's signature and the notation "started November 2017." He took a picture of my copy of the agreement to share with the office so that they could correct or update their records. Later I looked more closely at the agreement and realized there is no space on the document for a date to be recorded. This leads me to wonder if maybe Jim's sells an agreement and before the 3 years is up, they sell a new agreement, banking on the customer not being able to find their copy or not remembering when they originally bought the service. Could be a simple and honest mistake on their part. As I noted, I've not had a bad experience with the company and have no reason to avoid using them in the future. However, this episode rings of something a little more suspect. My advice is to be careful if you sign up for a 3 year maintenance plan with Jim's and make sure you write the date along with your signature so that you have a time stamp for future reference. read more

Since this is the third time I've used Jim's, I figure it's time to make sure this company is added to Yelp. Jim's pretty much does it all - plumbing, electrical. heating and cooling. I've used them for once for electrical and twice for plumbing so it's plumbing that I am going to review here. Yesterday afternoon my kitchen sink got clogged and nothing I did (and I'm pretty handy) would unclog it. I called Jim's and within 3 hours Harold was knocking at my door. Harold provided me with a reasonable estimate and then started working. Not only was the drain badly clogged, but as he started to open the trap, the metal just split in pieces.it was so old and corroded. Luckily for me, Harold had the necessary part to replace the pipe and was able to remove the clog and replace the pipe. It was a nasty process, but Harold took care to make sure there was no mess when he was finished. He was professional and always wore covers on his shoes while inside the house I can not say enough about the service I received and Highly recommend Jim's Inc. read more

I called JIM'S Inc. when my regular plumber was unavailable. The two guys who came to clear our clogged toilet were prompt and friendly enough. One used shoe covers at first, but then must have forgotten; the other removed his shoes. They couldn't clear the clog with an auger, so they had to reset the toilet with a new wax ring. As far as I can tell, the work was done well, but the price was astronomical: $368! They told me the price up front, and I agreed to it since they were here, but next time I'll do my research. When I talked to my usual plumber later, he quoted the same work for $200 less (without knowing what I paid). I cannot recommend this business based on their high prices. read more

One star for showing up, and that, like Woody Allen puts it, is 90% of life. Unfortunately, life in this area is better with functioning air conditioning, and that is what Jim's is in business for, yet fails to do. This company is big on the $169.00 show up and look fee, followed by the $271.00 recharge fee, and the $200.00 fee to apply spray to the outdoor heat pump coils and hose it off. All this to a known leaky system, yet no ability to find the leak and fix that. And all of this with a running stream of off topic nonsense talk. Jim advised me that "he has a HVAC master's license and does not have to take every job that coms his way". I couldn't agree more. I don't think he should take any jobs which require more than a quick hit of R-22 and a large invoice. Use at your own risk. read more

As noted in response to a previous review, this company is under new management. The new owner has helped us for years with every sort of issue, big and small, from a broken toilet handle to a complete kitchen remodel. He goes over and above providing quality service, and always tries to help us save cost wherever possible. He remodeled our kitchen including designing a completely new layout, moving plumbing, knocking down walls, building new walls, new floor, cabinets, counter tops, appliances -- the works! In the process of knocking down walls, he noted and repaired some fundamental structural issues with our house that we never would have known about, reinforcing a load bearing wall that was right below our kids' bedrooms! He finished the job in record time, and it is AMAZING. Both aesthetically and functionally, I now have a kitchen that I enjoy using every single day, and I receive compliments on it from everyone who comes in my house. I cannot recommend this company, and particularly the new owner, highly enough. read more
