Steve and his team were amazing. I needed a water heater installed in a very cramped portion of my basement. Firstly, when I called Excellence, I got an estimate within hours. Scheduling the work was simple and they agreed to come in 2 days. They showed up on time and got right into the project. Within hours it was done, at a very high level, and the Excellence team explained all of the adjustments I could possibly need to make. Part of the work was to take away the old hot water heater, but there was no room on the truck. So, Steve called another one of his team in the area to come get the old unit and haul it away. I hired Excellence Plumbing because I had a leak in my ceiling and thought that it was coming from my upstairs bathrooms. They suggested it might cost $150 to fix a leaky toilet. They came out and agreed it might be the toilet valve and flapper in both upstairs bathrooms, but also my tub needed to be recaulked. So they charged me $425 to replace both valves and "caulk my tub". This was the worst caulking job I have ever seen - I could have done a better job myself. They didn't even bother to remove the old caulk, they just recaulked over some of it and did a terrible job at that. See the attached photos. I asked for a receipt breaking down the labor and parts because that seemed incredibly high for what was done and they refused to provide one for over a week. They came out to "re-do" the caulking job and again did a terrible job. I was then told that they didn't really do caulking and that this was just a courtesy. Yet a courtesy that they charged me an arm and a leg for. Incredible. I again asked for a receipt and he said he would email me one and drive off. They also said my water pressure was probably just a city issue. I spoke to my immediate neighbors and their water pressure is fine. So it was clearly a plumbing issue. These guys are ridiculous. Amazing! Steve and Anthony did such a fabulous job installing my new electric tankless water heater. Steve wanted to save me money and fix my old one but, once he arrived, it was clear the old one couldn't be fixed. It was 19 years old and had lived its last days. So Steve went and got me a fantastic tankless water heater. Finished the job in a day and charged me about half of what another plumber quoted me. So I'm very happy. read more

Excellence Plumbing's customer service is superior! Robin and I spoke on several occasions across multiple days about the issues that I was experiencing with my water heater. She was patient, responsive, and walked me through various options that I could take to meet my needs. Due to extenuating circumstances out of my and Excellence Plumbing's control, I had to halt servicing on my water heater. However, despite no longer being able to obtain service from Excellence Plumbing, Robin still provided sound advice that was in my best interest. As echoed in previous reviews, this exemplifies the integrity of this business. I would for sure recommend Excellence Plumbing simply because they genuinely care. Good reviews on yelp, so I though I'd give them a shot. Came a little later than they said they were arriving "be there in 25-30 minutes" was 40. Whined a little about walking up two flights of stairs. For some reason my garbage disposal wasn't running. They opened it up and it seemed whatever was stuck went through the pipe. It was up and running. I probably should have tried this myself, but I've never messed with garbage disposals. They were not there 10 minutes and it was $150. They couldn't give me a receipt that said what they did (I had to call the office). I called and the lady answering the phone said she would write one. Three hours later it hadn't been sent. I called again "I'll get it it to you by the end of the day." Wasn't here in my inbox this morning. I called for the third time and it came. read more

Can't recommend them enough! We've had to use Excellent Plumbing twice (because our old building has really crumby pipes). They are really responsive and great to work with. The first issue with the pipes was a bit complicated, and they walked us through everything every step, including all the issues it might be, why they were trying X, and what would be next if X didn't work, etc. They were thorough and professional. Our second issue happened almost a year later, and they remembered the nuances of our building and the pipes situation from the previous work, so they were ready to build on that experience without needing to "start from scratch" on knowledge about our crap pipes situation. Obviously hope we don't have another plumbing crisis, but with this building we will someday, and I'll definitely use them again. Highly recommend. read more

Terrible service, huge liars. They came to my home to fix my gas leakage problem. They claimed they fixed it and opened the gas. The same night, neither our water heater nor our stove work. I called them multiple times, they kept saying they didn't do anything to break them!!!! After insisting, someone showed up arguing with me about the situation. Finally after wasting a lot of time, they finally fixed their own mess!! Their agent told me once they fix the problem, she will send me a receipt with 50 days of warranty. I had to call them many times to get the receipt. For warranty, first she said, oh not warranty is only for 30 days. And even for 30 days, she never gave me the warranty. I called them many times, and eventually she said really mean personal thing to me!!! I can't believe this is how they run their business and I cannot believe someone would rate them 5!!! read more

Steve and Jay are my heroes! I've been having issues with two of my toilets and I was super nervous calling people online but I'm SO glad I reached out to Excellence Plumbing. I'm a member of Nextdoor and saw a post from a neighbor saying she used Excellence for some issues she had this weekend and they were professional, spot on with service and a huge help. So, I gave them a call this morning at 9am, and they were at my house by 12:30pm! I was shocked at how quickly they were able to squeeze me into their day. Immediately, I got a very warm feeling about these two. They came in, diagnosed the issue, resolved it and gave me friendly tips and a warm conversation along the way. They educated me on water pressure and how specific brands of toilets function. In addition, they have some pretty awesome personalities. Steve is more social, but Jay is the doer. He literally came in and fixed my issues faster than I could even blink. Their professionalism is exactly what I was looking for, and I can't be more grateful for their work ethic. After they fixed my toilets, I mentioned that my car wouldn't start this morning and Jay literally looked in my hood to figure out the issue. Once he narrowed it down to the battery, he cleaned corrosion on the terminals of my battery and waited there patiently as my car slowly decided to start running. Like many in the DC area after this multi-day freeze, I woke up to a burst pipe and a basement full of water. I called three different plumbers and none of them could fit me in. Thankfully, I saw the number for Excellence and called. Mr. Steven (I think that was his name, I apologize if I got it wrong) answered right away and was able to send a plumber out in just a couple of hours. The plumber, Mr. Terence, was AMAZING! He was kind and professional and immediately diagnosed the issue. He got the necessary part, came back, and within 10 minutes told me I was, "back in business." Indeed I was. Excellence plumbing recently re-did the plumbing for our kitchen: replace sink, replace faucet, re-route some piping, install a dishwasher. Excellence Plumbing provided a proposal and were the lowest bidder. They are very local to my residence and I'm always happy to shop local, so I scheduled an installation. The job was supposed to take 2 days, it ended up requiring 3 days. I have to admit, it did not start well. I watched as they attempted to replace the sink and they looked to really be struggling. I offered them some advice on using a rope and some 2x4s (any YouTube video will show you how to do this). They immediately turned around and asked if I had any rope. Sigh. I have to assume that a plumber with this tenor has installed a few sinks, so I was really surprised that they did not come with the appropriate tools and really looked to be struggling. At the end of the second day, everything was setup, and working, however, the dishwasher was not sliding all the way into the back, it was sticking out very far into the room. I felt like the crew kind of just gave up and left things undone (left me to deal with the final details). After they left, I dove in and took a look at the installation of the dishwasher and noticed that it was not installed according to the manual. There were two issues that were clearly in conflict with the directions including a missing "high loop" in the disposable hose. OK, I get that each dishwasher install is a little different, but this "high loop" is pretty standard (may even be code?) required by all dishwasher manufacturers. It was kind of embarrassing how bad the whole thing was. So, I would really hessite recommending them after they left after the second day. However, I called their business line and the woman on the other end was very kind and had the team rescheduled immediately for the next business day. I emailed pictures side-by-side showing the current state of the dishwasher install and the way that the manual directs it to be. When the crew came back, they were very apologetic and after another few hours, and re-installing the dishwasher, I finally got a very nice end product. So they did end up earning my "OK" rating here. The staff were all kind and friendly, they did correct the issue, but having to insert myself so much definitely put a damper in the overall experience. read more

Wow - 5 stars, and a very happy customer! I used Yelp to send out a request for quote, and was blown away when Steve called me back immediately, and answered all of my questions. My leaky/broken disposal was completely replaced in less than 24-hours. Not only was Steve the first to respond, but I found his quote to be reasonably priced, where others wanted to take complete advantage of me and charge and arm and a leg. Steve and his sons showed up on-time (even a little early, which was great) and fixed our disposal. They were so friendly, and I could not be more pleased with their service. I used Yelp to search for the highest rated plumbers to unclog a tough clog in my toilet. I used the "request a quote" to contact 5-plumbers. Of the 5-plumbers, Excellence was the only one who called within 30-minutes. 2-companies replied that they do not service my area which is in NE DC at Rhode Island & N. Capitol St. Another gave me a quote of $650 to remove the toilet and snake! Steve called and was prepared to come out within a few hours but I wasn't so we scheduled for the next morning. He was very accommodating doing his best to get me in. He and his son, I believe, showed up on time and 15-minutes later the tough clog was gone. Possibly the worst experience with any service provider. 1) They did some work on my bathroom only to leave with a horrible noise every time I flushed. 2) I called them back to come back and see the work again. They came and fixed the noise. 3) I repeatedly requested an invoice but I actually NEVER got it. 4) 4 months later the same issue popped again, so I called to schedule an appointment. It took 1 week to actually schedule it and this is after I repeatedly called/texted to schedule. 5) Finally the day of the appointment, the plumber DID NOT SHOW UP AT ALL. I called the office and the lady told me she'd call me back after finding out where the plumber is. She never called me back even after I myself tried to get an answer. THEY TOTALLY LEFT ME HANGING AND ARE NOT RETURNING MY CALLS AT THIS POINT. These people are amateurs and have no business running a business. They do shoddy work, don't provide receipts, leave you hanging, don't come back to fix the issues we paid for. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Excellence Plumbing came to our apartment because the sink was filling with water when we ran the dishwasher. They pumped a clog out of the drain. The next time I tried running the dishwasher, it would not work. They claimed they did not cause the problem and would charge us to come back. When my landlord reached out to them again via Yelp, they only responded that we are out of the service area, which obviously isn't true because they came here to service the apartment before. The tenants flushed paper towels down the toilet. I tried to use a 3 ft auger but wasn't able to get the clog. I called and immediately got an appointment and reasonable quote with fair expectations that things may change. They gave an honest quote from least work to most work. I then received a call in the morning from the plumber to ask more detailed questions and a call when they were 30 minutes out. It took them 10 minutes and they came in below the quote. They quickly diagnosed the situation and acquired and installed the pump within a few days. They identified some previous work that was a bit shoddy and they cleaned it all up with new parts and it works great and looks clean and professional. These guys are amazing! I have had three non emergent issues and they have come quickly and fixed everything. I had a pedestal sink removed and a vanity installed and it turned out great. I also had a pinhole leak in a pipe in the basement and a leaky bath tub. They are used to working with older DC homes and know what they are doing. They installed a new kitchen faucet, reseated the toilet (since my contractor had screwed it up), installed a bidet seat, snaked a drain, and added a diverter to my shower head. I called Excellence Plumbing for an emergency fix on my gas water heater. I spoke to a plumber right away and scheduled a visit the next day. I checked in with the plumber that morning to let him know my contractor would be there to let him in and to give me a call afterwards to talk about the issue. I never heard from the plumber again. Wow, these guys are great! We needed to have a Water Heater replaced in quick order. I called and they came out the same day, happens that this was a rarity since they're usually very busy with appointments but I'm glad I was able to catch them. They were very knowledgeable and requested that I call the original Water Heater manufacturer to diagnose the problem...this seemed weird at first but that goodness I did as they told me. Come to find out the manufacturer informed me that the existing heater was vented improperly and I would need to get a short model water heater and replace the unit as they did not recommend repairing. After providing them with this info, they came the same day, replaced our water heater and had someone haul away the old one. Never had such a seamless same day experience. Not sure where all these high reviews are coming from. Based on the mostly positive reviews I called these guys to check out a couple of issues at my house: 1) low water temperature on my bathroom; and 2) leaking expansion tank. After the plumber fumbled around with my shower faucet for a couple of hours to no avail I just told him to leave it and I read the manual for the faucet and fixed it myself in 20 minutes after he left. As for the expansion tank, he quoted me on the spot $450 to replace the leaking tank claiming he would need to replace and tank and flush the whole system, which is not true! After some more research on my end, I realized I could buy a new tank for $50 and replace it myself rather quickly. He also said the $150 diagnostic fee could apply towards any work I had done. I asked them to send me and invoice and and estimate for the expansion tank work and they never sent me either. That was over a week ago. This is just about as bad as it gets for a company. They didn't fix either problem, charged me a diagnostic fee for basically wasting my time, and never sent an invoice or estimate for the work. read more

All these good reviews make me nervous these guys aren't going to be as available going forward, but I can't help but rave about their professionalism, friendliness, and work product. What a team Steve and Jay are! I could type nine paragraphs about the work they've already done in our new (but old, like all Cap Hill homes) house which we have owned for less than two weeks. Two weeks and these guys have been in our house on four separate occasions, every time with a smile and a quick solution and plans for larger issues to be fixed down the road, when we haven't just emptied our pockets. I will share one little anecdote should tell you all you need to know. We needed a new dishwasher and Steve recommended a brand but suggested we hit up the center aisle at Lowe's where we can get some "out of box" models that are discounted (returned for one reason or another but typically working just fine). We went on a Sunday but there were none there so we just purchased a Bosch (per his recommendation) which was on sale and moved on. We had them in the house a couple days later when our shower ended up leaking into our dining room (some shoddy contractor work) and they had to go to Lowe's and get some parts and found us THE EXACT SAME DISHWASHER for $550 less than what we had paid sitting in the center aisle. Steve purchased the dishwasher on his card, put me on the phone with Lowe's customer service to cancel the order on the new dishwasher, carried it all the way to their truck (Lowe's won't deliver the discounted models), brought it to my house and installed it later that week. Simply amazing. Good work, reasonable prices, and super personable. read more

It's generally hard to find a plumber that can come in under a week or two in Capitol Hill/NE, but these guys, a father and sons team, made it out the same day, did a very thorough job, and followed up several times in the days following. The owner used to be on the DC board for those involved in the plumbing trade, and he left for some time and now is back and getting this business off the ground. He was recommend to us via the plumber Compass real estate recommended, who was unavailable. When we had a leak, Excellence took the time to think creatively about the cause, attempted several fixes just for good measure, and did it all with minimal damage to our home, which is NOT what other plumbers we called said they would do. When we later had Magnolia plumbing come out b/c Excellence was unavailable that night we were free, the Magnolia guys, well-respected, expensive, and with a long, reliable history, first asked if we'd checked x, y, and z, which Excellence had, showing they knew what they were doing. I appreciated their kind attitude and follow up. Indeed, a couple days later, they came and extended out downspout for free! A totally unrelated issue! Much appreciated! Update: Had Steve come fix a broken faucet outside about six months after our first job. We didn't tell him what Magnolia had told us they would do to fix it, but Steve did the same as they said they would for about half the price. He's a pleasure to talk to. My sewer connection was backing up so I called Excellence Plumbing. Steve Givens answered the phone and was out there the same evening along with his partner Jay. They brought a snake which unfortunately was unable to clear the blockage. After we made sure there was no problem with the city sewer connection, Steve called the next morning and promised to send out his guys with a thicker snake. They spent several hours and finally cleared the blockage. Their charges were very reasonable considering the time spent, and they were very conscientious about solving my problem.
