I didn't expect find Korean comfort food this good outside of K-Town LA. My sister, fiance, and I came here on a Friday night. It's a small restaurant, and there was a short wait before we got seated. We ordered the Spicy Tofu Stew, Rose Tteokboggi, and Bulgogi Hot Stone. All three were great, but I especially liked the Rose Tteokboggi, especially with cheese and ramen noddles. I definitely recommend ordering family style, as the portions are large. There are Jin Cooks everywhere but Porter Ranch is the only in SF Valley. I have visited Buena Park many times and that was one voted the best Korean food in OC. Porter Ranch meets the same high expectations. This is located in the same large parking lot with Chevron, liquor store and former Amazon grocery store. This place can get very busy during dinner hours so be prepared to wait. I wanted to order beef short ribs and dumplings but my table was not having that but that is okay. We ordered Bulgogi pancake that was so huge (enough for 4 people alone). Freshly marinated bulgogi with green onions veggies and crispy exterior. Second plate was Kraft Katsu that has delicious crispy chicken, salad, rice and gravy. All the spices were added correctly which is so satisfying. So far this is my favorite plate. Last dish is Ddukbokki (freshly made noodles with ramen). Warning this is extremely spicy even though we ordered mild but I loved this noodle dish. All dishes you must top off with all the pickled kimchi of course. The kimchi is a top seller here that you can buy. All dishes are pretty big and enough for 2-3 people. I'm so used to going to Koreatown or even Sawtelle for Korean tofu soup. But for Father's Day I wanted to try something different...and Jin Cook was really good. I ordered the tofu soup with beef and had it medium spicy. The beef in the soup were small pieces of brisket rather than sliced beef like most tofu houses. The soup also had a good flavor to it without being overwhelmingly salty. I would come back just for this. This bulgogi was okay - slightly dry with little flavor. The bone broth soup was a hit. Light on flavor but sometimes that's what you want. It was served with lots of sliced beef. The tteok-bokki is not my favorite dish but everyone seemed to like it. Lots of sausage, thick pieces of sliced pork, and the cylinder shaped rice cakes topped with ramen. The sauce tastes like fancy ketchup to me. Definitely not my thing. The banchan was light with four small dishes but my favorites like kimchi and bean sprouts were there. I would definitely come back especially if I'm ever in the area. We've been to other locations and they all seem very popular. The food is delicious, but be prepared to wait at minimum 20 minutes. The restaurant is a bit small, but they have many tables inside. The Staff were very attentive, helpful and nice. We ordered the Katsu plate combo with a side of curry, and the spicy tofu seafood soup. The katsu came out hot and crispy, yet tender inside, but I would pass on the curry sauce. The sauce didn't have much flavor and was bit runny. The tofu soup was delicious and you can choose how spicy you want it. The side dishes were very flavorful and fresh. Overall, a good place to eat if you're craving some Korean food. Tried Jin Cook in Porter Ranch and overall had a good experience. The inside décor is really cute cozy, warm lighting, nice artwork, and comfy booths that give it an authentic vibe. It does get busy, but there's plenty of parking in the plaza (the host told us around 3pm is the least busy time). We ordered the short ribs, which were delicious, juicy, well marinated, and served on a bed of onions with white rice. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The side dishes were all good too. I was a bit disappointed with the bulgogi pancake though. There wasn't enough bulgogi and it felt like it was drowning in heavy batter. I personally prefer thinner, crispier pancakes where you can really taste the ingredients, and this one felt bulky and a bit oily to me. Portion is huge though, definitely shareable. The marinated dumplings were another popular item. They were good, but I wish they were crispier or came with a dipping sauce..I probably wouldn't order those again. Wanted to try a new Korean spot, and this place certainly did not disappoint! Ordered the Marinated Dumplings, Bulgogi Hot stone, and Rose Tteokbokki. In total it came to around $75 not including tip. Pretty pricey but the food was tasty. Next time I would order the other Tteokbokki since the Rose wasn't very spicy. On today's visit for some reason the staff was unattentive. Didn't come to check on us at all, we had to flag them down when we wanted ice, a fork, to order something else, we also wanted to ask for more ginger but they would all pass by fast and make no eye contact. I waved out waiter down because we ordered the cold spicey noodles *boy knowing they were black and slimmy. Didn't like the noodles and wanted to order another Chicken Katsu, it was darn near impossible to get the waiters attention, they were talking amount themselves in the back, and a hand gesture wasnt getting their attention. It was giving "manager isn't here today so we are going to just hang back and chill, chit chat amoungst eachother and not put in effort into our tables. I don't think waiters relax that its their job to atleast ask their table at the least 1 time if everything is ok, your customer/table shouldn't have to hunt you down, or walk to the back to get some help. The last visit here the young lady was so attention she asked 3x if we were good and she asked if we needed more ginger or anything and attention with brining a to go box and the bill without having to be asked. Service like that makes a big difference and always leave a big tio for that service. The katsu was good as per usual and the dumplings were also good! read more

This is my second time to Jin Cook and at this location. Everything was okay. Weirdly the food came out hot but didn't stay warm for long. The banchan was okay... it seemed like the pickling process wasn't long and lacked flavor. The tteokbokki tasted like it was from the frozen section. The portions are definitely shareable. I need to write a review quick so I don't forget! Went to Jincook a few weeks ago on a Sunday and the wait was about 20 mins for 2 at around 6ish. Not too bad! We put our name down, they took our phone number and we went to Amazon Fresh next door to get some stuff. Then they texted us sooner than anticipated, yay! Here's what we got: - Spicy Pork Hot Stone 5/5 next time, we'll definitely add a fried egg! came here while visiting family. 3 of us arrived around 2pm for a late lunch. we only ordered 2 items as we're not that hungry. beef bone soup and a bulgogi bowl. about 5 dishes of banchan (side dishes) were served along with a bowl of rice when the beef bone soup was served. the soup has a lot of beef slices and some noodles so we split it three ways. soup was flavorful, supposed to add your own salt to flavor but my mom and aunt thought it was good enough. beef slices are a little dry. I meant to order bibimbap hot stone with beef, but misunderstood the server and ordered bulgogi hot stone instead. the dish came with a bowl of rice in the middle and stir fried beef with onion around the rice on a hot stone dish. the beef was flavorful with a tinge of sweetness, but the meat was tough to chew on. The portion was big that the three of us can only finish 1/2 the order. the service was good as the server kept checking on us and added extra banchan and hot water on demand. price is average of $20+/dish as Korean food are always more expensive. our bill was ~$50. read more

Location 4 stars: In the old Porter Ranch shopping plaza in Porter Ranch, California, Southeast corner of Tampa and Rinaldi. Plenty of free parking. Venue 3 Stars: Jincook operates about 7 Korean comfort food (they call it Korean Soul Food) restaurants in the LA area. This location is a nicely decorated, smaller sized venue. It used to be our neighborhood Greek restaurant for decades. Inside tables and booths only. Mostly smaller tables of up to 4 seats, although I have seen a few 6 seaters. No outdoor seating. This Jincook location is quite popular and the venue is too small for the crowd size, resulting in 30~45 minute and sometimes longer wait. There is no formal waiting area; only a few chairs outside. This can be detrimental in inclement weather. They do not take reservations either. Service 3 stars: Servers are polite and efficient. My biggest issue with their service (and this happens every time) is that the main plates arrive at drastically different times, meaning that some people's food will get cold while waiting for the others' foods to arrive. For me, this ruins the dining experience. Most restaurants are able to manage this and "time" a table's main plates to all arrive at the same time... Not sure why they cannot? Food 5 stars: Excellent, creative and tasty food with nice plating. Prices are on the high side but the portions are quite large! The many soups, the barbequed pork, bulgogi, kalbi, the sizzling hot stone plates, and the many options of curry and Katsu are all delicious. I go to Jincook often and I don't remember having any food there that I did not like. Drinks 3 stars: Very limited menu of 1 kind of beer, 2 kinds of Soju and some Korean and regular soft drinks. Went here on a graduation celebration. The place has limited tables and if you're a large group be prepared to have two separate tables on a busy day. With regard to food it is very tasty and filling due to huge portion worth sharing. I like the katsu pork curry. I love the traditional Korean interior! You can easily pretend you're stopping by, on your journey to Seoul, to get a meal in the Joseon dynasty. The service is quick and friendly, just my style. TLDR: Food is always phenomenal but the service is lacking and food is pricey. Not sure if it's worth it to still go when you can go to other places down the street with decent food and more attentive staffing. Inexcusable service considering how small the restaurant is. I've been going here for about 2 years now and it's some of the best korean food in the area. Though it's pricey I still find it worth it every time I get my food and take a bite. It's a small place with a chill ambiance. Perfectly fine to have loud conversation and gets pretty busy. They also do take out. However, I have found that in the last year or so the quality of service has really gone down. The last few times I've gone the waiters almost never stop by the table except to seat you or take your initial order. On multiple visits we asked for more banchan and were told they were going to bring more and they never came. Our most recent visit, I had to wait 30 minutes to get my naengmyeon order. A curry dish was swiftly delivered within 10 minutes but my naengmyeon took over 30 minutes. I asked the waiting staff twice. The first time, after waiting for 15-20 minutes, they acknowledged it, checked with the kitchen but gave me no update. 10 minutes go by and I asked again and I finally got it within the next 5 minutes.. Food came out fresh and hot. The atmosphere was busy and fun-filled with families and friends visiting together. jin cook is my favorite korean spot in the valley! from the intimate seating, to great service, to BOMB food!!! i usually have difficulty finding vegetarian options at korean restaurants, but there are a couple here, and service was great in helping me customize my order and informing me which banchan items were vegetarian :) we were able to get the rosè tteokbokki without meat/fish, which is so hard to find!! it was absolutely delicious, i had never had ramen noodles with tteokbokki before! the vegetable bibimbab was the perfect entree, with a nice assortment of vegetables available. i already can't wait to come back! read more

We loved the variety on the menu and the portion was good. What a great spot in the valley to get some really good Korean food! The spicy pork was well seasoned and, in my opinion, not actually spicy, so if you've been wanting to try it but are scared of spice, you'll probably be okay lol. The bulgogi wasn't too sweet, which was great because that's something I always notice at other places. The traditional pork soup was quite bland; the broth tasted like watered-down milk and wasn't very enjoyable without added seasoning. The spicy pork hot soup also lacked spice. The pork itself was reminiscent of bacon and tasted good at first, but by the time you get to the bottom of the hot pot, much of it ends up burnt. Therefore, getting a table may not be easy, especially if you are dining solo like me. Yes, tables are reserved for parties or two or more. However, I was lucky this time and was seated within minutes. The complimentary side dishes that begin the meal, 5 of them, are fantastic. My favorites were the cucumber, onions and bean sprouts. The last time I was here, I had the Bulgogi hot stone. This time, I wished for something different and chose the Katsu Combo (Fish and Chicken). Both the pieces were superbly prepared. Nice crunch on the outside, a crisp mouthfeel and moist on the inside. There were two sauces. One a tartare, that was ideal for the fish Katsu. The other, a red sauce, for the chicken Katsu I presume, was not impressive. I ordered a side of the curry ($5), thinking I would use it for the chicken. Unfortunately, it did not hit the mark for me, either. Rice and Cole slaw that came with the dish, were both fantastic. This place is popular because it gets filled very fast. However, I was bit disappointed with the size of their Soondubu - it was very small compared to other places. I was also not a fan of the beef bulgogi (it was too sweet for me).
