Having tried ramen spots all across the country, I can confidently say JINYA has earned a place in my top 10. I was dining solo and didn't have a reservation, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. After a short wait, Eddie, the night manager, welcomed me and took great care of me. I asked for his recommendations on chicken ramen and a cocktail--and he absolutely delivered. I ordered the JINYA Chicken Ramen with egg, Impossible gyoza, a salad, and the Smoky Wokashi Old Fashioned. Everything was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The hostess was super friendly our server, not so much. She really didn't seem to either want to be there or she didn't want to serve us. My daughter's ramen was tasteless and her JINYA bun was also lacking in flavor. I had the garlic rice bowl but it looked nothing like the menu's photo. The egg was already scrambled into the rice and not finished table side as the menu suggests. I also requested chicken chashu as my additional topping so I was not expecting my dish to appear as it did. It was tasty but not appealing because of course, you "taste" with your eyes first. Finally tried JINYA and was not disappointed. The gyoza for an appetizer were honestly my favorite part. So flavorful and I feel like I could've eaten 20 more! The spicy chicken ramen was very good. It came with 2 slices of chicken and honestly I could've used 2 more. The flavor was really nice and being able to add a little of the spicy oil on the table was just the trick. I ordered medium spice and it was perfect. The service was also really good and quick. The parking is the most annoying part. The bottom part of the garage is free, but it was full the night we arrived so you go up to the next level and pay a small fee. It's not the easiest to get around/turn around, but at least it's offered. The restaurant itself is small and cozy and they have a full bar as well. Similar heaviness from the Tonkotsu Black (w/black garlic). Chashu in the ramen was too dry, and not fatty enough, tough relative to the ramen chashu I've had before in Japan or NYC. Limited ramen broth choices, but a lot of topping selection possible for an additional fee. Chashu rice bowl was better - the pork less dry and more rich. Comes with a soft boiled egg, too. Parking in the back, ground floor only for 2hr (upper floors cost money), or in the surrounding streets. Not the most convenient entry (one is a single direction entry/exit only). Finally had a chance to try Jinya! Stopped by for a late lunch on Sunday and it wasn't overly busy so was able to be seated right away. Staff were good humored, hospitable, and knowledgeable of menu. Waters were consistently refilled. For cocktails we got the yuzu martini and e tomo drink - both wonderfully presented. They have plenty of appetizers to choose from! From edamame to gyozas..I opted for a house salad while my fiancé got the side chicken. I tried a bite of the chicken thigh and it was nicely marinated and fried. The dressing on the house salad was addicting! Loved it!! For the ramen I got the JINYA Tonkotsu Original 2010 and the noodles were made perfectly. Found the broth to be salty. Walked on to Jinya on a Saturday afternoon and had no wait. Service was very good, our server explained the entire menu and listed out some of the best dishes. I was super excited to see they have vegan ramen options using tofu and impossible meat. They also let you sub out the noodles for rice noodles if you need to be gluten free! I had the flying vegan harvest ramen bowl and it was fantastic. It wasn't too spicy, I added some extra spice to it which is available on the table. I had an amazing at JINYA ramen and I am extremely happy that it opened in Charleston. We visited on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and had no trouble finding parking and seats in the restaurant right away. Our server was very attentive and explained the entire menu concept and options patiently and recommended the best things to order and not order. I went with the Birria ramen, which is a mix of Ramen with Mexican style beer, soup and beef, it even has Mexican toppings, like cilantro and red onion to complement the flavor. I really liked the modern Asian feel of this place. It's a little small but we were able to be seated and served quickly. I only have good things to say about the food. It had a really good rich flavor. The ramen itself was not curly (just an observation from a first-timer). The only thing I will say that I wasn't particularly pleased about was how many items on the menu were not available. I asked about several things on the menu that were just not available. The opening weekend wait was definitely worth it! A small, intimate restaurant with a trendy appeal and creative cocktails. My Tonkotsu Black ramen had the most amazing, buttery smooth pork broth I've ever had. I could sip it all day. All of the contents mixed amazingly well with it including the succulent pork and the not-too-firm or soft noodles. The gyoza had great texture on the searing and thoroughly cooked yet soft exterior. We also started with some rice ball croquettes that had gooey cheese and curry interior mixed with ground chicken . Our wonderful server Reagan gave us a thorough rundown of the menu and how everything worked (in case you were intimidated by your first ramen experience). The general manager, David, also visited our table and informed me of the 3 day process of how the broth was made, which is exclusively made in-house at each location. Great experience overall! Tried this place for the first time. Loved that they lead with Ramen, so that's why we went there. There were three of us and my son and I started with the server's highly recommended saki. My wife ordered the Lycheetini. The Saki was great and a good value. The Lycheetini clocked in at $14 and, while tasty, had a lot of ice and wouldn't order again. For appetizer we did the 3 piece sushi and Pork Gyoza. Both were delicious and expertly prepared. The server (I think Robert) did a very nice job guiding us through the menu and also took another drink order. For our main course my son ordered the Tonkatsu Red with 6 stars and my wife the same with only 3 stars... the 6 Star was HOT HOT HOT but my son enjoyed it. My wife usually goes for a bit spicy, but beware !! The chef (the owner) himself came out and offered to remake less spicy and she was very grateful (No extra charge... Very accommodating. Thank you.). I ordered the Tan Tan Men with extra spice and a little chili oil on the side. Absolutely amazing meal for all. I had a Sapporo draft with dinner and my son the Margarita. Our party of 4 went to Jinya for lunch. Plenty of indoor seating and there is a covered public garage (free) right behind the building which makes it super convenient (especially on rainy days like today). The food was delicious with generous portions. The staff was friendly and attentive. However, it took over 30 minutes for the food to come out. One of the members of our party ordered a rice bowl and that came out 15 minutes before the rest of our food so she was done eating before we even got our ramen. I have now been here twice. The first experience occurred shortly after they opened. We joined the waitlist and were told it would be 30-40 mins, so we waited in the car before going up, which we eventually did, assuming we would get a text saying our table was ready. They were out of several types of alcohol, etc. as it had not been delievered yet. We ordered a cocktail they did have. The server explained the menu, how it worked, and asked if we had any questions. It was very crowded and very loud, but the staff was nice and doing the best they could. Now...the ramen. I got the spicy umami miso - I'll just say that there was plenty of it & it was delicious. Second visit: went for lunch on a Friday, were seated immediately, and it was far less crowded. Server asked if we had questions and food arrived quickly after ordering. Again, the food was tasty - this time I had the wonton chicken ramen. The first thing I noticed was that the music was a bit loud but it seems that that is what the franchise is known for. It would make sense if you're coming here to pregame before you go clubbing but there's no alcohol yet since it is new but I won't deduct points on that. The food itself was pretty good albeit salty. I enjoyed the jinya buns, the garnishment attempted to balance the saltiness but it was still unable to go all the way. It was still fine as long as I drank some soda along with it. I also tried the takoyaki which was decent although the presentation was different from what I'm used to. However, charleston has disappointed me a lot in takoyaki so my standards are very low in charleston. I ordered the cha cha cha ramen because the server told me that it was only going to be around for a month and it was decent although again the salt levels are pretty high but to be honest most ramen restaurants in america have been extremely salty for me so I assume it's an American thing since I have not been to Japan to try their ramen. Based off of other ramen restaurants I'd probably have to say if you enjoy ramen in America then the taste will be fine for you. Our server was pretty awesome. I know the restaurant just opened and they're trying to figure things out still so any mishaps are understandable. I believe the owner came afterwards to ask if we could give suggestions for improvement which would probably be better anonymously through a note than in person. All in all I would recommend if you're interested in seeing the restaurant there's no harm to try it out. I've been before and loved the Ramen I had then I was excited to come back to try the spicy chicken Ramen. They have a special that was going on right now and it was only $12 so me and my friend jumped on that and this was my first time trying the spicy tuna and that was really good and I had a lychee martini. I've never had one of those before and it comes out really cool. When they create a bubble on top it's fruity it reminds me Of pee taste almost and I like pears so I love the flavor profile of it all and it's awfully pretty. I'm definitely trying to go back and take advantage of the special deal that they have going on during the week because I am a Ramen girly at heart. Solid chain ramen joint. The flavors and noodle are always consistent and one of the best dishes I had and am impressed with is the vegetarian rice bowl and the impossible gyozas. The rice bowl is was really well balanced and the gyozas are chive heavy which is not for everyone but worked for me. The yuzu chicken ramen was light with a hint of yuzu to brighten the broth. It's about time Charleston began their ramen journey. There are now multiple ramen restaurants within easy driving distance, but this makes for a very competitive scene. I've been to the Charlotte location, which was much more quiet and laid back, and had a slightly higher quality of food in my opinion. To touch on the food; I've been twice now and both times the ramen has been pretty okay, 4/5 for the ramen. The broth is alright, the noodles were good, but the egg was either way overcooked or just not cooked well enough to have the perfect creamy inside. This reigns true for both the Spicy Umami Miso, as well as the Jinya Tonkatsu Black. The appetizers I've tried were the takoyaki balls and edamame, both of which were very good. The takoyaki had the perfect texture and exploded with flavors when biting into it. Overall, great food, but skewed by comparison of competitors. The first time I went, my server was Mario, who was very hospitable and friendly, spoke to me as well as multiple guests around me in a personal way that went above and beyond what I'd expect from a server. Both times that I had gone were during a busy Sunday lunch, so wait times were a little longer than usual and the table touches took a little longer than I'd have liked, but understandably so because of how busy the place was. One thing I noticed was how clean they kept their tables and bar though, it seemed almost every 2-3 minutes someone was gliding by and taking away the trash and making sure that the dining experience is neat and organized, very appreciative of this! When it comes to the overall vibe of the restaurant, it's definitely super busy while they're in a "launching" phase with Charleston, but holds a beautiful decor based on both modern-American and Japenese art styles, combined with foliage decor to fit the vibe they're shooting for. I do hope Jinya thrives in this market, eventually these small discrepancies will smooth out and they will find their new home here with plenty of locals dying to try it! read more

The real highlight of the evening was interaction with Eddie, the manager, who came and told us where to park next time we were in and brought over some bad buns to try. I LOVE JINYA and have been to multiple locations across the country. So happy to have one open in Charleston and have already visited multiple times. Everything from the appetizers, drinks and ramen is amazing. Servers are attentive and nice. I was disappointed that this is the only JINYA I've been to that will not allow you to substitute items in the ramen even if I take out multiple ingredients and only want to add spinach they still charge for the spinach added.
