Waitstaff will get you anything you need even if it's not their service zone. We visited this place on a weekend for brunch. Although they advertise for brunch specials when we got there, the server didn't know of any such specials so we went for the regular. We ordered an appetizer takoyaki followed by spicy chicken Ramen and Jinya Tonkotsu Black soup. Takoyaki had a very small piece of octopus and more breading around, it's was not upto my standards. The spicy chicken lacked flavours, nothing to be blown away by. My friend liked her tonkotsu soup. All items were over priced for the quality they offer. I have had better ramen noodle soup. Then I tried the noodle and I was like ahh crap I still gotta drive far. I couldn't tell what was missing. It could be the ingredient the noodle is made from or maybe the way it was made. It could be better. It's a little too hard and chewy than it needs to be. The service is pretty good. The waitress was quite attentive. The food came out pretty fast too. The food presentation had nothing I could complain about. The decor is spectacular for Reston Town Center and it's very spacious. You shouldn't have trouble finding a table. Jinya has delicious ramen! Having now tried multiple dishes from the menu I can safely say it is a staple ramen chain for me. Ramen ratings: Jinya Tonkotsu Black: 10/10 Vegan Red Fire Opal: 9.5/10 Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen: 9/10 Kara-men (Chef's Special): 5/10 I wasn't a big fan of the chicken broth base and the amount of chili oil overwhelmed the broth Appetizer ratings: Spicy Tuna and Salmon Cones - 8.5/10 delicious but too small Takoyaki - Octopus Balls - 8/10 much bigger appetizer and I liked the sauce. They only give 1 tiny piece of octopus per ball though. Impossible Bun - the bun itself was soft and fluffy and I liked the cucumber in the bun but the impossible meat was dry. I would opt for the Jinya Bun instead if you eat meat. It's been a couple times coming here now. I always loved the ambience of the place, there's a bar in the middle and it seems to always be a little crowded in the evenings. The food is consistent each visit, it's not top-tier Japanese food but you know what you're getting and it's tasty to enjoy on a casual date night! Service has been a mixed bag for me; sometimes they're not as attentive/friendly but it's never been a horrible experience. Food, it's good. Maybe slightly salty, and the chili oil not hot enough but the broth is deep and flavorful. Salmon poke bowl, OK, not amazing. The crispy salmon roll of some sort we got was surprisingly delicious and had a smoky flavor. Drinks always delicious - I recommend their new Yuzu drink. As one of our go-to vegan options in Rockville, we are usually satisfied with our experiences, but this location on this day was a miss. A big miss. The dining crowd was bustling but it wasn't overly busy. The food was okay. It's a chain so it's pretty consistent and reliable when it comes to their menu. The service, however, left MUCH to be desired. After being sat, we waited for about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. Drinks (all non-alcoholic) came out 5-7 minutes later. They were dropped off without a word. Another 5 minutes later, we waved down our server to put our order in. I'm not sure if he got distracted before putting it in, but it was another 30 minutes or so before anything came out. By the time we got out dinner, we were pretty frustrated and needed to leave, causing us rush through our food and take what we couldn't finish in time. Closing the check out was another ordeal. Considering we brought some friends here for their first time, I was pretty disappointed and embarrassed after having talked about how we dine at Jinya often. This is a follow-up review to when I posted a few days ago. This time I decided to sit around and dine in rather than taking out. While it was much better to dine in than to take out, my review mostly stays the same as the previous post. The service, I do want to reiterate, is exceptional, and the ambiance is quite good. Great place to entertain your clients or out of town friends. However I do have to say the food is still within the three rather than four stars range. While this review is technically for four stars, the previous one is three stars, and I think a balance of the two, or 3.5, is closer to the true evaluation for what I would give this restaurant. I do want to reiterate that I am satisfied by all of the metrics I have mentioned. Likewise, as I like to be positive, it is not too loud and the acoustics of the place are great. Something you don't often find in RTC is the ability to have an actual conversation and yet still be in a lively place, so kudos to them for that. But the main criteria of an evaluation is food. And their food is decent but not great. I will say that the ingredients and diversity of the items is great, as is their tendency to feature a seasonal special tucked in between their regular items. A good way to pique interest while not having too many variables and unknowns. Oh-- and while I did not have it myself, they have a cocktail on their menu that sounds quite lovely. read more

I came with my friend on a Saturday night and so it was packed, so we ended up sitting at the high tables. The waiters were quick and efficient with getting us to the table and keeping our waters full. The takoyaki is a skip; it was pretty hollow and definitely didn't have enough octopus. When it was brought out, it also was a bit cold, which was disappointing. The Tonkotsu ramen was also pretty salty and the noodles were very hard. Jinya from coast to coast has been so good. I love this location in particular because it's in a shopping center with cute brick sidewalks, a dog park, other bars and restaurants, and even when busy it's still a calm and safe environment. I never make reservations and never wait long. The service today was great, very empty how I like...the food was yummy per usually and when they make a mistake they don't make a fuss. The music selection is all over the place from snoop dogg to Ariana Grande but I don't mind lol. I love the spicy creamy vegan with thin noodles no tofu and had the bartender make Nobus version of Mia Margarita and it was pretty good but the lychee martini is my ultimate favorite. read more

I think this place has what it takes to be 5 stars if they make some much needed adjustments. Food: Chicken wonton ramen - i ordered this but received the shrimp wonton ramen instead. I didn't realize at first and had put my extra veggies into it. Once I bit into a wonton I quickly realized they got my order wrong. After a bit of a wait, they brought me the correct order which was really great but they didn't make it extra spicy (or spicy at all) like I had asked and I didn't get vegetables or an egg to replace the ones I had put in my original ramen. Had the service been more proactive, I would've asked for them but my dining companions had already finished eating and I didn't want to continue holding us up. Seasoned egg - sadly overcooked and not seasoned well enough to justify the $2.50 upcharge. Green tea - not good at all and quite pricy ($3) for having to steep the bag myself. Sauces - each table has gyoza sauce, seasoning sauce, and hot sauce for the ramen. The hot sauce was great for bringing my ramen up to my preferred spice level and the other sauces were tasty too. Service: I think addressing the servers and overall employee collaboration would greatly improve this restaurant. We were given a 15 minute wait due to "low staff" but i noticed that there were actually a lot of staff available. Our server never came to check on us and I had to ask a manager to replace my ramen with my correct order. He was very apologetic and ensured it came out quickly. Meanwhile, I saw many employees standing around chatting. This really downgraded my experience here. Ambiance: Great environment and clean. A great place for a dinner with friends or a date. We had just finished a long adventure exploring the woods and nearby lake. So we were hungry AF per usual. We made it just in time for happy hour! And goodness they have a good happy hour menu. VEGAN OPTIONS HERE! Their vegan menu even had the honor of being on the first page. Hallelujah. Also the service was AMAZING. So welcoming and helpful and friendly. He have us suggestions and pointers of where to visit in Reston. We ordered quite a bit of things... I had a seaweed salad, vegan bao bun (delicious), and the vegan red fire opal ramen. Ramen was too spicy for me (duh it's called RED FIRE so after a while of navigating my way around the chili, I asked for a bit more broth from to balance it out. It saved everything. My party of 3 was seated immediately for dinnertime. Overall, service was great - there were a lot of waiters asking about our experience (any more and it would have been off-putting). I got the tonkotsu original 2010 and asked for the spicy broth, which they happily obliged with. Food came out relatively quickly. The soup was lightly spicy, but held all of the richness of broth. The egg was just right, the meat was also really tender and perfect, and the noodles itself were not overcooked, which I find to be common at some places. Jinya is a staple go-to ramen spot that we've been frequenting since it opened at the Reston Town Center years ago, pre-covid. Prices, like every other full service restaurant, have shot up ridiculously so whereas this was once a place we would jump in the car and pop in for an impromptu meal when the mood hit us, we don't anymore. This place has become more of an every now and again venue. But Jinya is still on our hit parade list when we are craving an authentic flavorful hot and hearty bowl of noodles because the food there has always been consistently delicious, the ambience inside the restaurant is super inviting, clean, neat and impressively decorated, service is always spot-on (servers are pleasant, knowledgeable and never rush your meal/visit). For all those reasons, I have **tolerated** their rising prices....but tolerance has its limits too. Jinya also has this going for it: they're good business people. They understand that they have to keep their offerings fresh and ever changing to meet the changing tastes and trends of their customers. Their menu items evolve including drink and food specials and special promos. They're getting creative with their offerings, trying new things, and keeping their tried-and-true offerings consistently good and high quality. This last visit, I strayed away from my usual order of Spicy Tonkatsu ramen because my eyes locked in on their Chef's Special - SPICY GARLIC MABO MEN - $20.80. I was intrigued. It **looked** to me and sounded by the description to be a cross between a Korean dwenjang jigé (spicy tofu stew) and a classic Japanese ramen. (It was!) I just HAD to try it. And OMG SOOO GOOD! GET THIS RAMEN DISH, NO LIE - HEARTY, SPICY and that cross between a Korean stew and Japanese noodles that is a GENIUS MASH-UP. Finally, a special shoutout to our ever-favorite and go-to appetizer - the Brussel Sprout Tempura. I hadn't seen these on any menu before nor after getting my first taste of them here at Jinya all these years ago. A shareable app (for 2) though I would gladly scarf up the entire box all by myself lol. #control,girl Creep-up in price aside, these bite-sized gems are still as solid a menu item as the 1st time I had them. That's what I mean by "consistency" at Jinya. The sprouts come nicely presented in a tiny paper-lined wooden box brimming with golden brown, crispy, piping-hot-out-of-the-fryer (no joke, beware you don't burn the inside of your mouth!), bursting with flavor, and salted just so. We order it with the spicy mayo dipping sauce (sadly extra $$). It's a nice lead-in to your ramen noodle meal and also goes great with a cold glass of brew, glass of wine or cocktail. There will always be those one-off locally owned, non-chain ramen places that serve up a mean noodle dish around town (NoVA) that I'll continue to seek out (and report on here on Yelp) but, in a pinch, if I'm hankerin' for ramen and looking for tried-and-true, consistently good, a place that also keeps the menu fresh and new, with a cozy relaxed ambiance, consistently good service, is easily accessible (in the RTC) AND TAKES RESERVATIONS (!!) - JINYA IS IT. read more

Cool ramen spot right in the heart of the RTC. In a hub of other shops, and an ice rink literally down the road. I came here since I was in the area in Reston Town Center. Searching for places to grab lunch at, and this cozy Ramen spot popped up as the first result. Table for one so I got a spot at the bar up front. I came around lunchtime so it was mostly deserted at that time. I got a glass of water, and the JINYA Tonkotsu Black Ramen off the waiter's recommendation. Wish I could say it blew my socks off, but it was only decent. Broth was nothing too special. Noodles were thin and spindly, rather bland. Pork was pretty good. I could see red peppers at the start, but it was not too spicy for my palette at all. What else? Onions, apparently a delicacy called kikurage which is a mushroom, a boiled egg, and seaweed, all mixed in. The egg had a very interesting taste. I ate with big spoon initially then switched over to provided chopsticks to ironically "spoon" up the ramen. Once I got going, I eventually finished it with chopsticks in left hand and big spoon in right. Food was overall pretty decent. Haven't experienced Ramen in a while. It was nice. I would say expect to spend at least $20 for the Ramen alone. Will likely be back to try something else on the menu, and will update the rating accordingly to reflect this. read more

Jinya ramen tends to surprise me because they tend to give me something I'm not expecting. The curry croquettes surprised me because usually they are filled with potatoes instead of rice. The rice was also pretty dense and lacking in curry flavor. The ramen surprised me because it tasted more like tantan ramen and not sanratan ramen. It wasn't sour at all. So, the atmosphere is great at the Reston location. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They greet you as you enter and exit...so nice. The food is wonderful ‼ Whatever you get there will be great. My favorite food there is their chicken. So tender, fried just right, great crunch with tender, tasty chicken inside. I've been to a few Jinya locations in MD, DC, and VA but this is my favorite! It's a great space to have a celebration, a lunch break, or a simple meal. The staff is friendly and it doesn't take long to be seated. Parking close can be difficult with the Reston town centers paid parking policies, but it's not too expensive to park; just keep in mind that you'll most likely be paying for parking. As for the food offered you've got a good simple selection that you can add sides, and additional ingredients too. Last I got the Spicy Chicken Ramen with Bok Choy, Chicken Wonton and corn along with a side of Crispy Chicken and Ice Cream (Mochi) and I recommend all of these things! The Crispy Chicken was my favorite and a must. It's a newer restaurant so the scenery is clean, the music is immaculate I've had to Shazam a few songs here and there, and the lights are warmly lit so it's dim like feeling which is pretty in the evenings.
