If Koreatown is too far or too busy for your liking, this place will give you a sample of a Korean restaurant in the city. First similarity, there isn't a parking lot and street parking is competitive. Food quality matches any average Korean spot; sort of like what you would get at a food court in Koreatown. It is pricey for Korean food, so go for their combo deals. That'll make the cost per food worth it. The store is very modern and feels a little industrial. You go in, sit down and order off a screen. The food comes out when it's ready. There's very little interaction with other people unless you plan a group lunch. It reminds me of some Japanese restaurants that service those not interested in to talking to people while they eat. They just want a quick service, eat some food and leave. If this was a place in Koreatown, I'd probably give it a 3 star, but considering that it's in the valley, I'm upping it to 4. There just aren't enough places in the valley that serve food of this quality. I'm calling this average Korean food, but it beats other Korean restaurants in the valley by a mile. I'm talking about those places that service food you can get from Costco (Bibigo and the like) or Trader Joe's. The valley needs to more places that serve actual Korean food.
Pleasant first visit to this Korean Homestyle cooking in van Nuys - it's in a great location! They use all electronic ordering at the table. The jap Chae was super as well as the beef bulgogi. The clam soup was delicious but slightly salty and too spicy. We are rather sensitive. However I know others wouldn't be bothered by jalapeños or the salt. We would love to go back!
Pretty solid Korean food in the middle of a very random section of town. Parking on the street. Service was very nice and I love the convenience of ordering on the iPad at every table. The food is piping hot and solid. Reminds me of good home-cooked food. Small array of banchan along with my fiance's chicken kimchi tofu soup and I had a large portion of the clam noodle soup. Very good portions and took some home too.
Today I ordered from the Korean place called Jip Bab They had to buy one get one free: I got the Japchae with veggies: it's silver noodles and vegetable vegetables delicious with a soy sauce: so tasty I will order again I also got KimAri: which are small roles with seaweed and vegetable vegetables inside; it is an acquired taste, but I liked it
Quality food and service. The meat was perfectly cooked and was delicious. Between the Galbi and the Bulgogi, the Galbi shined. Pair with a bowl of rice and it was perfect! Sidra Soda was also refreshing and was not overly sweet. The only downfall was the prices as items on the menu seemed expensive. Will definitely be back to support this small business as the food was great and the staff was so nice. Can't wait to try the other items on their menu!
Solid Korean food spot on Burbank Blvd, a busy street during rush hour. The menu prices are a bit above average, but dining in was well worth the experience. They do have a some menus outdoors that also include some Japanese food. Ordering was fairly straightforward via their on-table kiosk. It's a very chill spot with little foot traffic even on a weekend for dinner. There is much ambiguity with their menu items; sometimes stuff is available, sometimes it's not. Some are seasonal, but they aren't labeled as such. Prices are also not on their menu. I enjoyed their Kalbitang, which had several bones of meat. The meat was all cooked to perfection and tender; the broth was hearty though heavily flavored with what tasted like soy sauce. My favorite was the fluffy rice. I thought their sides were tasty, but I neither intrigued nor inclined to ask for more. There were a few customers that walked in to order, and they do have options for seating both indoors and outdoors. The atmosphere is overall very relaxing, perfect for either a rainy day or a pick-me-up meal.
I am SOOO happy I found this korean spot and not have to drive to K-Town!! We got the Soon Tofu Jjigae - 1 with beef and 1 with seafood, both with purple rice, and the Haemul Pajeon (Seafood pancake). The pancake I wasn't too impressed by, the bottom was pretty soggy (maybe it's supposed to be this way?), but the flavors were great. Love the side dishes it came with! HOWEVER, the Soon Tofu Jjigae was 1000% worth it and why it's still 5 stars to me. A pretty generous portion, piping hot, and hits the spot. Parking wise, there is a tiny lot in the back, but I prefer to park on Burbank Blvd or on a side street. You order on an iPad which I don't LOVE, but also there was only 1 lady working at the time so I'm sure that helps her a lot. Will absolutely be back soon!
The place is quite small but it has several tables ans chairs. The place was really busy, there was only 1 server visibile so service was bare minimum. We ordered the Sukiyaki bowl and Pork Cutlet, both were under Japanese dishes. We ordered them from the iPad from the table which was very easy and accessible.They both were just okay, nothing extraordinary but generous portions. The place featured signs about tipping and if you are 6 and more, automatic 18% gratuity. The total for both dishes came about $48.
I've driven by this place SO many times but never ever experienced it. We would alway see it whenever we're driving along Burbank Blvd. This visit, after our nail appointment I remembered the katsu sign as that what I would alway see. But never knew what the exact name of the restaurant was. Well, good thing it was literally around the corner from where we were. There's street parking which we were lucky to get right out front. Plenty parking along Burbank blvd. I'm not sure but there maybe parking in the back. The place isn't that big with a couple of tables on the patio and more inside. It was our first time so we weren't quite sure about it. Well, you seat yourself and there's a kiosk machine on each table for ordering. Self service, place your order and voilà. The menu isn't big at all. You have Korean and Japanese main entrees. There's bento boxes, katsu of course, hot pot, stone pot and sides. Not a lot to go off but they do have a good amount of the classic and favorites. After we places our order, sides dishes were brought out as well as a water container. Fishcakes and the kimchi was a major hit. Quite tasty so it was a good little snack while waiting for the entree to arrive. Also, extras were included if you wanted more. We went with the pork katsu and fish katsu meal. Serves with salad with either white or black rice. Also added a side order of curry sauce for an additional fee. It wasn't too long till the food arrived and by the looks of it, it was nice. Fish and pork were cooked perfectly and battered nicely. Each bite had the perfect crunch to it. Each piece was juicy. It also came with a side of katsu sauce. Food was great and service was excellent. We did noticed loads of take out which was nice. The lady working was a doll and sweetheart. Busy as she was the only one but still had a smile on her face the entire time. There's a restroom which is in the back going through the side of the kitchen. Overall, the meal was very tasty and flavorful. Seeing all the other dishes and bento boxes being brought out, makes you want to try everything. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.
Came here with a friend for lunch on a recent Sunday and had an enjoyable meal. We both ordered the galbitang, short rib soup. My friend tried to order the cold noodles since it was a hot day (especially for November), but apparently it's a seasonal summer-only dish and was marked as sold out on the menu. The galbitang was well made, with plenty of tender beef, and the broth tasted flavorful and clean. The portion was large, I took the rest of it home and it was enough for another meal. Ordering was simple using the tablet at the table, although we tried to put in separate orders so we could get separate checks but they ended up combining the bill at the end. Not a big deal since we just put down 2 credit cards and they split it for us, but just FYI. The banchan was decent, a small selection of 4 items but they did refill upon request. As for parking, we both found spots on the street. Apparently there's parking available in the back, but I couldn't figure out where was safe to park and didn't see any signs, so I opted for the street since I didn't want to take a chance. Would definitely return to order the soup again, especially now that the weather is colder, and try other dishes as well.
Parking: Jip Bap is a very small store so it is easy to miss. There is a very small parking lot / alley in the back. It looked like parking were for the stores in front but there was no way into the restaurant. I had to walk around to the street. Exterior: There was a small patio area with a few tables for dining. It looked relatively clean. Interior: Jip Bap is a pretty small restaurant. There were not many tables available but it was very clean. It was not very busy when I went on a weekend for lunch. Service: There was a tablet at each table to order from. The waitress there was friendly. Food: I got the Pork Katsu with a side of curry. The meal comes with some typical Korean side dishes. The breading on the katsu was fried perfectly so that it was golden, crispy, and not too greasy. However, it was already heavily seasoned so it was actually a bit too salty for me when I added curry to it. Overall, it was a nice meal.
Came here for dinner to escape the LA traffic drive home. Such a cool little place out in Burbank area. Outdoor seating and indoor seating. It's small and they also do take out, but we dined in. The waiter was very accommodating, friendly and attentive. Food was great, they have a wonderful selection of Korean and Japanese dishes (I need to come back to try more).
Casual little spot with great food! Service is so quick and attentive. You order on the tablets at the table but the servers will happily help you if needed. I came for the bimbimbap but tried a lot of other dishes. Everything was good. We had the gyoza, japchae, fried chicken with soy glaze and banchan. My favorite was the fried chicken and banchan. The pickled sides really help with the fried dishes we got. Will definitely go back again!

This is such a cute little Korean spot. They have a pretty extensive menu and the food is good. They have self order tablets on the table so just sit down and place your order - easy peasy. There's only about 6 dining tables so it's not good for big groups per se! Also keep in mind they close in the middle of the afternoon. read more

Good service and cute exterior, but the real standout is the food. Pleasantly surprised. I went alone late at night and it didn't feel awkward at all. The galbitang was honestly better than many I've had in Korea. The meat was already sliding off the bone before I even touched it. It was so tender it melted in my mouth. Just when I thought I'd finished all the meat, there was still plenty left. Some of the banchan leaned a bit sweet, but I still cleaned every bowl. I'm going back today to try more dishes. read more

I saw Jip Bap recommended by the NoHo Nick blog. I'm glad I took note of it because this is now one of my favorite restaurants. Jip Bap is a cozy place with friendly and attentive staff who show an obvious love and excitement for the food they bring the customers. The food is absolutely phenomenal. I tried a variaty of items and they were all just hands down delicious. The Bulgogi Bibimbap, Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box, and Pork Mandoo were all amazing. I highly recommend Jip Bap!! read more

First time going to this place! I cant believe i was missing on a gem!. The food is freshly served the menu options were so hard to choose from. I love Japanese/Korean Cusine this place has the best of both worlds. The service is amazing very attentive and on point. The Ambiance is very cute. You can sit inside or outside very clean as well. Needed some soon tofu soup to warm my chilly Capricorn soul on these dam chilly California evenings. Found out this cute spot is so close to my apartment, glad I stopped by. 7 tables and a bar type seating to look out the window gives a very cozy and intimate vibe. You order at the table yourself and you are served your meal. You can ask for the check via the tablet or asking the host/server. Min was working last night and super helpful with my questions, and just kind in general. I had the beef tofu soup, with pork short ribs. It was served with rice and Banchan of fish cake, kimchi, and eggplant. The eggplant was the only thing that I wasn't enthusiastic about. read more
We have passed by this place many times, and told ourselves we liked it try it. So we did, and found it to our liking. There is only one person, Angie, out front to take care of everything that a server does, and a busser does, and taking care of lots of to go pickups. She handled it very well, and deserves a huge raise. We like the army stew quite a bit. It's on the spicy side so be warned. The dish which costs $37 including American cheese as an extra is enough to fill two people. It also comes with a side of rice. We like this place. Because Angie was so busy, it took us a while to get started, but it was worth the wait. We will definitely come back. read more

Inconsistent portions and service I've ordered from Jipp Bap many times, and it's usually been good, which is why this experience was disappointing. My recent order on Sunday around 8 PM had a noticeably smaller portion--less than half of the container. I compared it with a soup container that was almost full, and the difference was very clear. The amount of pork and vegetables was also minimal compared to what I've received before. In addition, the staff at the front did not seem very friendly during this visit. I hope the restaurant can improve consistency in portion sizes, food quality, and customer service, as I've had better experiences before and would like to continue supporting them. read more

Jip Bap serves up Korean classics alongside a Japanese menu, but the flavors are more Americanized than traditional, at least for the Korean menu. I originally wanted Galbi Jjim, but they were out, so got the Galbi ($29.99) instead. I also asked for spicy, but it came sweet, with a side of gochujang to spice it up. The Kimchi Bokkeum Rice ($15.95) lacked the proper taste --more like a lightly seasoned fried rice. One win - the Zucchini Pancake ($14.50) they comped us--crispy, tasty, and a great match with the sauce. From the Katsu menu, the Potato Croquettes ($8 for 2 pcs) were also solid--crispy and creamy, no complaints there. Quantity: 4/5 - Decent portions for the price Ambience: 3/5 - Casual, easygoing spot. Nothing fancy Service: 4/5 - Friendly and welcoming, plus dog-friendly! Taste: 3/5 - Food is fine, but leans sweet and lacks that true Korean depth of flavor Parking: 3/5 - Street parking, managed to get a park right outside Tips: * If you want spicy, make sure to ask for extra gochujang. * No alcohol, so no soju for you! * Great for casual, quick Korean-ish comfort food--not the most authentic, but still a decent option in the area * Dog-friendly spot, so bring your pup! Seating outside :) Not sure I would come back as it's not the kind of Korean I'm craving lol. I need the authentic stuff! Japanese seems ok from what we tried. Soondubu jjigae (tofu stew) was AMAZING! - not salty, PERFECT level of "HOT/SPICY," and temp hot, just the way it should be. Loved the blk rice option! And the amount of soondubu and rice was at least 1.5x more than what you get anywhere else read more

Jip Bap is one of the couple Korean spots in the area, nicely nestled around some notable eateries. The food selection is decent although perhaps too robust with no specific focus, ranging from street eats like tteokbokki to soondubu or galbitang. The flavors are fairly close to a proper home cooked meal akin to their shop name, "Jip Bap" which can translate to "home meal." However I found the flavors to be slightly off, as if some key ingredients were absent or ingredient ratio were off. I had the galbitang and tried some of the kimchijjigae, and neither hit home for me. Just adequate, reminiscent of the dishes they resemble. The service was great and dining experience was fantastic. Friendly staff and cozy ambiance made the dinner out feel not stress inducing. Would recommend for anyone in the area craving some Korean food but don't see the point in driving all the way to get some. read more
