We went to this JJ Fish and Chicken location to place a lunch order for carry out on a Sunday afternoon before 1 PM. This was what my dad wanted for his birthday meal. We ordered a family chicken meal, and a whole catfish & oyster combo which included a side and a can soda. We gave the special instructions to fry the fish and oysters soft & we chose corn nuggets as the side and added a side order of crab balls for the birthday guy. It took about 15 minutes for everything to be ready. The order was accurate although the items we requested to have fried soft could have been a tad bit softer. We were able to get our own condiments while waiting which included hot sauce cups, ketchup, tarter sauce and bbq sauce cups. The cashier gave us the soda (sprite) when picking up the food. Note: The family orders do not automatically include a drink & the drinks are about $3 if desired. Overall, the food was good & everyone was happy! I liked the chicken and thought the corn nuggets and crab balls were fresh and flavorful too. The fries were not my favorite on this visit. The food was still the right temperature. I ordered "extra seasoning" but I really wouldn't tell what seasoning was used. It was on the fries as well. The fries were decent. I wish they were crisper. I ate all the shrimp, which was fried and about 20 pieces. They were small shrimp and crispy. There was two piece of bread on the plate. It didn't appear to be toasted but it should've been. Been hearing about JJ's since I was living in Minnesota, huge Chicago following in the city so I have been wanting to go and I'm excited about it being here in Atlanta and literally a 5 min drive from me! Inside the restaurant is extremely big with plenty of seats, I don't know how many actually sit and eat there but it was busy with people either ordering in store or picking up. The service was great, no complaints there, they looked pretty efficient people coming in making their order and leaving in a timely manner. The food was good, I got the fish combo with shrimp and whiting, every order comes with fries and a drink which is super convenient and I feel like that's a lost art these days, drinks are always extra now. This was a Saturday toss up. It was a choice between JJ's and JR Crickets. Trust me. I should of went with my first mind and got my wings. This will be the last time I go up to this place.....and it be your own people. Two childish a** girls at the register. I placed an online order for 20 wings. I walk up to the counter, immature child 1 was on the phone texting and immature child 2 was looking straight ahead in a daze. I stood there for about 15 seconds before I was even acknowledged and I know immature child 2 saw me walk up. While I didn't actually eat in the establishment, I can say for certain the food and the service are in fact spot on. I saw this place while pass through this area and was curious about it. I know that they have their roots in Chicago but that's all that I know of so curiosity got the best of me and made the jump to try them. The service was quick. Not more than 10 minutes and I was out of the door with my perch and tender combo. $13 for 3 pieces of deep fried perch and 3 pieces of chicken tenders, a large handful of fries, a small ramekin of your basic coleslaw, and bread. All of that in a combo meal of $13 plus tax in roughly 10 minutes which is impeccable service and speed even at the lunch hour. So let's talk about the food. The perch pieces are large! We're talking full size, deep fried in a cornmeal batter. Even on my way back from JJ's, the batter stayed crispy enough to be enjoyable. The fish was flaky, well cooked, and seasoned beautiful. I dare say it was too seasoned and seemed like whatever they used to season the food (which looked more like dusted salt or MSG powder... almost looks like the white stuff a certain president's son likes to snort to where he confuses it for parm cheese). The chicken tenders were pretty basic. It's chicken tenders but the difference here is they seemed to have locked in the juices pretty well so eating your tenders fresh will prove both pleasurable and painful, especially with that seasoning that's nipping at your taste buds. They dusted all the food items in that take away box with that white powder stuff. Overall, the food was pretty salty and not evenly seasoned but overall flavorful nonetheless.
