With it being my 4-year anniversary (1461 days) as a vegetarian, a lacto ovo vegetarian to be specific, I was looking to transition to pescatarian. Not only was I recommended by my coworker about ordering fish from JJ Fish and Chicken, but yelp had it listed #3 as a recommendation for fish out of others in the surrounding area. It was then, I considered, chose and ordered from this restaurant which sat no more than 0.3 miles in distance from the hospital I work at in Maywood. I ended up ordering their Large Jack Salmon "Whiting" Dinner which consisted of 5 pieces of boneless jack salmon served with fries, bread and coleslaw! I always love ordering online via yelp because it is convenient! Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. During this visit, by the time I arrived at JJ Fish and Chicken my order was waiting for me behind the counter. Picking up was just a verification that I was picking up a Grubhub order, my name, as well as showing the email confirmation to the employee. I 'm grateful that my online ordering experience went so smoothly in comparison to a visit to a place a few buildings down. It was hard not to smell my food inside of the bag which smelled lovely! After opening the lid to the container with it inside, I said to myself "Oh my God" because the Large Jack Salmon "Whiting" Dinner appeared larger than I imagined. I started picking at the fries first which were very delicious! There is always something different about the appearance with fries that are cooked at a seafood restaurant, even the taste! At the time, I just could not help but smell the jack salmon as the smell loomed as I ate fry after fry. As for the jack salmon, it was satisfying! From its outer crunchy taste to its inner tenderness, I forgot how good fish tasted because I have not had it in so long. Seasoned with lemon pepper seasoning not only on the fries, but the jack salmon as well! And whatever the name of that mild sauce was, it sure complemented the jack salmon which I really enjoyed once I paired it together with the two slices of white bread and made it into a sandwich. Needless to say that I had a good experience with this JJ Fish and Chicken location. With it being the transition for me to pescatarian, I am well open to visiting again as the time goes on. I'd recommend this spot not at all bc of service or price but bc of the extensive menu. Not your ordinary JJ Fish, they have delicious rice bowls which is all itever ordered. Their point system only reward you for dinners and I purchase during lunch since I work nearby but that's not fair. The place is always busy, when you call you might get hung up on. I saw JJ's and decided to stop and get an order of chicken wings. This location has a wide variety of food items to choose. The food menu has chicken, fish, salad, desserts, Philly steak sandwiches. The list goes on. You won't be disappointed. The food is fresh and well- seasoned. I ordered the 3 chicken wings and 3 perch dinner. I recommend ordering online. The line and waiting time for your food is a bit long. But it's worth it. The service was ok. They even have a nice clean eating area. The catfish was tasty, however the chicken wings were old. The worst part was that the grease was old and dirty. Here's a technique: after a few uses, pour the grease out until you see the sediments, then, clean the fryer thoroughly. Pour the clear grease back in. Cook some French fries (give extras to customers) . Add new grease to make it through until next change. Do not continue to recycle and reuse grease. I was sick for two days. My first and last time. Even though this place is 2 minutes from my house, I never frequented the place. One day I had a taste for some wings and decided to check them out. They have a very extensive menu. Everything from chicken, fish, sandwiches and even salads. I ordered the gizzard and wing combo which came with fries and a beverage. I must say I was impressed. The gizzards were well done like I like them and the wings were fried just right and the lemon pepper seasoning made everything taste that much better. Restaurant Review Fried food galore! This past weekend while on call I ended up looking for comfort food to pass the time and ended up going all out with a 10 piece fried wing meal. This was definately a lot of greasy food, but the chicken wings were fried to perfection. The food appears to be made to order so there is a short wait time after ordering. My chicken wings were piping hot that they started to melt the inside of the styrofoam carryout box. The wings themselves were lightly coated with batter without any evidence of residual fat or chicken hairs which are gross. The lemon salt brings out a unique flavor that I cannot describe. For those who like spice, go ahead and dip it in the hot sauce with a little tang from the vinegar and moderate amount of heat from the cayenne peppers. There was also a healthy helping of fries and a small cup of cole slaw to sooth your taste buds. There appears to be a lot more fried food on the menu to try including fried oysters, fish, chicken tenders. The only ? is why don't they fry other parts of the chicken (breast, thigh, etc). Service is quick and overall friendly. The only issue here is with the small parking lot that is hard to get out of during busy times.
