Have driven by countless times and never noticed, oh silly me. Conveniently off the North/Clybourn stop & meter parking on both sides. I would highly recommend making an appmt instead of dropping in. So background story, I made the infamous mistake of choosing cheap prices over quality service. I was paying $8 for my usual threading until one day the woman at the gyro place next door made a comment about them looking uneven. Oh nooo she didn't?! So 2 weeks later I hopped on trusty Yelp and saw JJ Waxing's stellar reviews. After seeing the $12 eyebrow threading I said ehhh but figured after my embarrassment weeks earlier it was time for a change. The woman (assuming owner?) at JJ's is very sweet and got to business right away. After doing the usual thread she brings over this huge light (like the one your dentist has) and starts tweezing any stray hairs and trims anything worth trimming. She then gives an awesome eyebrow massage afterward -definitely worth the $12 for extremely detail oriented service and EVEN eyebrows. Ladies, I would highly recommend coming here. read more

Nice little place. I needed to get my eyebrows done in a pinch and I called ahead because I didn't have time to wait... I got there around 5PM and no one else was around. There's a doorbell, btw -- I'm not that much of a cityslicker so I had a moment of panic thinking it was closed -- then she buzzed me in. Aha. She sat me down in a chair right there and asked me if I wanted a threading or wax, and we got right down to work. $12 for an eyebrow threading, my eyebrows were like big caterpillars, to be fair, and they turned out lovely, but I didn't realize that threading is probably more expensive. Since I don't have problems with my brows done either way, I'll opt for waxes next time. The woman was nice. Professional but matronly, making me instantly like her. Very thorough, used a big dentist-type light on my face after the threading so she can find and tweeze away the tiny hairs. Once she was done she did a little mini massage -- it's a bunch of slow, firm strokes along the brow and tapping against the temples -- very soothing. This place is definitely a better option for waxing than having them done in a dimly lit back corner of a nail salon by a woman who herself has pencil thin eyebrows (unless that's what you're looking for!) The salon is nice and the staff were friendly and welcoming on my first, walk-in visit just minutes before closing time on a Saturday. The eyebrow wax was aspain-free as it can be, and she took the time after to be sure to pluck any strays. She double dips! I went in for a Brazilian; I should have stopped by Yelp before I went back.l For my whole wax, she only used one stick. I really wasn't watching at first, but when she was done, she only threw one stick away. For the cleanliness of the environment, I expected way better. This wasn't just your typically hole in the wall. The waxing was painless and she did a good job tweezing what the wax didn't get. But I will definitely not be back. I went here for an eyebrow wax. Backstory: A few months ago I allowed a nail tech to wax my eyebrows. (She was more persuasive than when she tries to get me to add a flower decal to my big toe.) Needless to say, I emerged with pencil thin eyebrows. I allowed them to grow out for two months, but when I could take it no longer I depended on yelp to steer me the right way. I walked in to JJ's around 5:30 and she was able to get me in that day. I told her that the last place had done them way to thin and asked if she could just clean them up conservatively. They are perfect!! And it was only $12 (without tip). Also, she didn't just apply lotion to reduce redness, it was as if she was giving me a little eyebrow/temple massage. I didn't feel like they were as red as they normally are. This will definitely be my new place to go for waxing. read more

I am obsessed of this place because of my sister! I have been a loyal customer for about 2 years now and this place has been on point since day one when I was a skeptical customer. Usually I just call, but recently I noticed you can make a reservation online through Yelp, so I decided to give it a shot for my most recent appointment. Easy breezy. I go here strictly for the bikini wax, so I can't vouch for the other services, but the staff is very professional and friendly. The place is very clean, and I watch them so I know they do NOT double dip which is very reassuring especially if you are getting a bikini wax. Overall love this place and definitely worth the trip. If I could leave a tip about going here especially for those that are new and still skeptical, I would say to try to go during their down time because I find the staff is more attentive and they don't rush and do a sloppy job. read more

Day before Thanksgiving and I needed the works in regards to becoming hairless. I hate to say it but I took after my father apparently because my face was in desperate need of some serious waxing :) No waiting I walked in and sat right in the chair. They were very nice and my face waxing was quick. I think she did a great job getting all the little fine hairs however I thought I have had better eyebrow waxing. I think i chose the wrong place for my first brazilian. I knew it was to be painful, but not this painful! It was worse than getting a tattoo. The only good thing was that it went by quickly and it was alot cheaper than most places. The lady that did my brazilian missed alot of hairs. I couldn't even tweeze them, it would have taken me a good half hour or so. I also bled alot. I think I'm traumatized. This is my new favorite waxing place. I've been to many places in the city and never really found one that fits me well. I'm not really high maintenance when it comes to eyebrows, but I do want a place with people who are friendly and efficient. I made an appointment at noon on Saturday and had no problem parking on the street right in front of the store. I was the only one there when I walked in, but the owner confirmed my appointment, and went right to work. She didn't say much, which is fine with me. She was done about 15 minutes later...but not before she massaged my forehead and eyebrow area, which was relaxing. You can't beat the $11.00 price and the awesome service. Update** Went back for a brazilian wax and will not go anywhere else!! I put an hour on the meter (unsure of how long it would take since it was my first time at this location) and I was in and out in under 20 min!! she was very quick and thorough. i'm not sure about the other review saying she double dipped the applicator sticks back into the wax each time, but everything seemed really clean to me. when she was done, she went back and tweezed any hairs she missed. awesome job, and great price too! I make a special trip from Logan Square to go to this lady for my brows. I have crazy eyebrows and it is hard for me to find that special someone who knows how to reign in the madness. She is so unphased. Waxing or threading- she can do it all, and $12 for brows is a great deal! If you need chatty or overtly friendly, you may want to look for another place. She is very quiet and doesn't say a whole lot. Personally I kind of like the quiet but not everyone does. read more

I went to JJ waxing first time yesterday for a Chest and Stomach wax. I was impressed by the great reviews on Yelp and they came to be true. Esther is great with waxing and she knows it well. I was very concerned of the pain while waxing as this was my second time. Chest waxing is painful as there is soft skin around the stomach, but Esther made it less painful. She was also very quick so the whole pain experience was over in a few minutes. The cost is lower than other well rated places on Yelp. She was very flexible with the appointment. I got the time on the same day and when I called to delay it by a few minutes, Esther accomodated me. The place is also very clean and fresh. I stopped here 6 weeks ago to get my eyebrows threaded. I had to wait about 15 minutes before Neetu was able to see me but it was worth the wait! I have very thin eyebrows but she was able to do magic! She also told me that I would need to come back in 6 weeks (for proper shaping and growth) instead of my usual....finding a random place and getting my brows every few months or so. I've been getting my eyebrows done sporadically since I was 15 and no one has ever told me I need to keep up with the maintenance until I found her! I returned a few days ago (scheduled an appointment!)and not only did she remember me but we had a nice conversation and she also offered to keep my punch card there with her bc I lost my first one! I haven't been to JJ Waxing for the last two to three years because I live in the northern suburbs, but my return has left me happy as always with the service. I don't know if everyone knows, but JJ Waxing is having a summer special promotion until July 3rd: 20% off all services. My $40 Full Brazilian wax ended up being just $32, can't beat that!! Here's a new thing about their business: you can now book your appointment online. When you click the BOOK NOW 24/7 button, it'll take you to a screen with three tabs: Services, book 24/7, and gift certificates. If you click, book 24/7, it'll ask in drop-down lists what services you want done, preference in esthetician or service provider, and which dates work for you. I'm not sure how far the dates go, but I just checked if they had any open availabilities for next Friday, and they do. However, you need to sign up for an account through the online booking service to confirm the appointment. You can always call to see if they have any other time slots are available that are not listed on the booking service. As per my last review in 2013, Esther is my go-to esthetician. She's simply the best and she's quick and efficient. She is just the sweetest lady and she hasn't changed a bit since the last time I was here. She keeps a conversation with you, so the ambience doesn't become awkward (I mean you are spending some quality time with an esthetician to deal with the lady business). I booked my appointment online today for a Full Brazilian at 3:30PM and I finished at 3:45PM. I've been coming to this place for 4 years and I love it. It's always my go-to for brows and waxing. I've never made an appointment but I've never had to wait too long when I just walk-in. The place is very clean and they even provide magazines for you while you wait. They also have punch cards which are great. I've gotten a couple free services due to this card! The prices are reasonable and they always do a very thorough job. Especially with my brows, I love them so much every time I get them threaded. They keep my shape but just clean everything up which is exactly what I want. The staff are very friendly and even though I don't come in too often they always remember me and our conversations. Since I don't like pain too much, having a convo and a personable relationship with the staff makes it all the easier to get waxed! Its good, just not great anymore. She has some new staff and I just feel like they do the minimum to get the job done. I just get my eyebrows threaded and the last time, she scalped me...I didnt know this was possible with threading. I can cover it with coverup, but not the point. Also, I feel like she kind of skirted around the outsides and I still have some stray hairs out there. I can never see when I am there. I guess I should just ask them to do the side area again. Its cheap as heck and she does a great job...some of the staff is better than others. read more

This review is only for facial waxing! I've been going here for over a year now to get my eyebrows done. The staff is so nice and very attentive. I ask them to wax, but they usually end up threading and tweezing afterward too. This shows me that they're really paying attention to detail. I have been to a few other places, but am never as satisfied as when I go to JJ. Ester at JJ Waxing is the best in the business. I have experimented with a handful of other places, and none compare to her skills. The place itself is nice and clean. They have private rooms for more intimate hair removal. I personally just get eyebrows threaded and lip waxed. You really don't need an appointment, but calling a few minutes ahead never hurts. They are super friendly. They'll be calling you by first name in no time. I used to pay only about $11 for both services. Now I pay $22; however, this is still pretty cheap. At the end of your wax/thread, she will go through with a tweezer and pluck any little hairs she may have missed. She also gives you this mini head massage that is so nice! read more

After looking at numerous "eyebrow threading" places on Yelp, I finally decided to go to JJ Waxing due to the awesome reviews. I called and there was same-day availability, which is always great. The salon was very clean and cute. There was soothing music and the owner was very nice. I believe she is Korean (not that this really matters, but it was just an observation that I made) and she smiled a lot. I told her that it was my first time having my eyebrows threaded (she offers waxing too) and asked if it will hurt a lot. She said the first time will hurt a little bit. However, it wasn't bad at all maybe because I'm used to the pain from waxing. It was actually even a little comfortable, as weird as that may sound. After threading my brows, she put a large & lighted magnifying glass over my face and diligently plucked away any strays. She even gave me an eyebrow massage! Yes, I would go back. Don't go here if you want sanitary waxing! I made an appointment last night for a Brazilian and a b&b. I'm pregnant, so I'm very careful when I get a wax to ensure that the company, as a policy, does not dip the wax applicator sticks back in to the wax after applying wax to someone. This is a disgusting way of spreading germs, especially in that area. Anyway, after reading reviews saying she was clean and sanitary, I figured this meant she had a "no double-dipping policy." I came to find out that her prices were only low because she double dipped into the wax pot with the same stick, and if I wanted her to use a fresh stick each time, this would cost me extra. If I wanted her to use a new wax pot that no one's used before, this would also cost me extra. I left without any service. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and this is one of those instances. I wasn't willing to risk mine and my baby's health to save $20. read more
