If you want a place with an absolutely beautiful and relaxing spa-like ambiance, this is not the place for you but this place is still very clean and plays nice music! I have been coming here for about a year now so this review is way overdue but I have been here this long for a reason. Before here, I hopped around to many places trying to find my place but this is it. Esther is amazing at what she does. She is extremely fast but very thorough. When I have been waxed at other places, I've definitely had at least a few hairs leftover but I am completely smooth every time here and I am out every time in 8 minutes or less. Esther also has a way about her that makes you feel comfortable in conversation but knows how to gauge people. She knows me well now and sometimes I feel like talking a lot and other times I just want to get in and out with barely talking and she just knows either way every time. Each wax is only $35. The best part about here is that she does punch cards, where every 6th braziliab wax is free! That seems like a lot to get to but trust me it comes as a nice surprise when you are expecting to pay and then don't need to. read more

This tiny and meticulously clean waxing salon is great, fast and affordable! I went there yesterday when I was in a jam; I had an appointment at another place and the esthetician was a no-show and what made matters worse was that I was leaving for vacation the next day! Yes, I was in the mother of all jams! After looking around a bit, I called JJ Waxing and was able to do the unthinkable - a walk-in Brazilian wax - seeing as these things are usually by appointment only. Esther, the esthetician was polite, thorough and somehow also really fast too! I was in and out in 15 - 20 minutes and was as smooth as a bald man's head! Although I literally stumbled upon this place out of last minute desperation, JJ Waxing is my new spot hands down! I will follow this woman to the ends of the Earth, I tell you! Only place I go to to get my eyebrows threaded and I've been to a few in the city. Ask for Melissa, she does an amazing job and she's very consistent. Plus, she's an absolute sweetheart. This little place is fantastic. I came here for the first time during her grand opening price specials, and ended up paying $17 for a brow tint and wax. The least I've ever paid for that was $35! The woman who runs the salon does an excellent job, and it's now the only place I'll go to for my brow tints and waxes. The place is very simple and clean, and they ladies running the show are very sweet. However, when it comes to the brazilian, there is something to be desired. Yes, it is cheap, but I've had waxes at other places for ~$40 that were far less painful and more thorough. The lady who waxed me was very quick and there was something about her technique that almost made me want to cry. That has never happened to me, and I'm usually VERY relaxed during my waxes. After the wax, she went over me with a pair of tweezers, but even after that, there were quite a few stray hairs. I appreciated how kind she was and her attempt at being thorough, which was why I gave her a more than reasonable tip. But I probably won't waste my money on another wax from here again. read more

I went to get a brazilian wax here. The lady was so sweet and nice. This was my first time ATTEMPTING to get a brazilian. After the first rip, I stuck with the bikini wax lol. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because she didn't give me ANY type of paper panties. I was bare booty on the table and a little uncomfortable at first. I love this place! I've been coming here religiously for at least 3 years, and will continue to do so for as long as I live on the north side. I get eyebrow threading and a bikini wax every 1-2 months. Esther (the owner) and Melissa are great at their craft. I am never disappointed. This place is no-frills, but that's how I like it! It's not snobby at all, unlike some salons. Prices are very competitive here, plus they have a punch card system, which allows you to earn free services (and save $!). I thought the days of punch cards were over, but not at JJ Waxing! You have to pay to park on the side of the street, but it's cheap, and there's always an abundance of parking available. I'd recommend making an appointment before coming here! They seem to always be busy, but despite their busy-ness, they're always running on time. The price point is right and even though I still dread the bikini wax, she's quick and minimizes discomfort as much as possible. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I was introduced to JJ Waxing through a YouSwoop deal for a Brazilian Wax. It was my first time having that done, and the woman that did the wax new I was nervous. She was very understanding and made it as comfortable as it could be. Since then, I have continued to visit JJ Waxing for most of my waxing needs (unless there is a Swoop for a cheap deal elsewhere in the city, per my college student bank account). Even then, JJ prices are the best. All services are extremely affordable and you get good quality for the price. The last time I was in the shop, Ester waxed my eyebrows. She is, by far, the best, and even gives you a little head massage following the wax. It feels great after putting your eyebrows through that stress! I would recommend making an appointment because they are busy at times, and space in the shop is limited. read more

1. They double dip. I watched closely while I could. Same stick the whole time. Nice little claim on Yelp that they don't, but its a lie. Why bother saying that then?! I also do not get the many places that double dip. I didn't realize that essentially popsicle sticks are that expensive? 2. She was sloppy. Wax was dripping on the floor and instead of asking me to move close to the wax, I felt like she just let it fly wherever. I was definitely worried about my clothes and shoes, but they were luckily OK. 3. I have never ever had such a painful wax. Also, I am not very sensitive and usually by the time I'm ready to leave, all redness is gone. I was red and swollen for HOURS after my waxing. 4. It wasn't a very clean wax. I felt that instead of removing the hair, a lot of hair was just broken off. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

I should have read the reviews before I went, with that being said I didn't pay attention to see if she was double dipping, I certainly hope not because I would love to make this place my new waxing spot. I used to shave but my skin got very irritated so I decided to give waxing a try. I tried a few different places and the last one before I came here was awful and left me very hurt and irritated in the brazilian area. I looked for a new place and found this one and the prices seemed reasonable so I went for a clean up from the last place. She was wonderful and gave me advice on how to treat the irritation. I came back the next time for full leg and full brazilian and was very pleased with the results! I've definitely found my go-to spot. There's always plenty of parking out front, the prices are great (she has bundle prices depending on what areas you want to wax), and the service is great. She is quick but very thorough and makes sure everything is good once she's done. She's very friendly as well, and I've never felt more comfortable with anyone else for waxing. Every time I go, I know I'll come out with happy results. Give this place a try! I have been coming to this little place since it opened. At first I was unsure, being that I always went downtown to a high end spa for my waxing, especially a Brazilian.
