Very friendly proprietor in a dated but cool space. Love the idea of a Chinese restaurant in Sakura square. Portions are big and made to order, would like to try a couple items prior to giving a full review. The happy family was decent but didn't blow my socks off. Will be back though. read more

One good thing working downtown is the opportunity to try out all the restaurants normally would not take the trip to try out. JJ Bistro on the second floor of the Sakura Square is a such example. It has been a staple here as far back as I can remember, but never climbed the stairs to eat there. As my new year resolution is to explore more Asian restaurants downtown, JJ Bistro was a perfect candidate (since it was within walking distance from my office). The restaurant was quite roomy and had the traditional American Chinese restaurant feel. Ordered my favorite sesame chicken. For lunch, it came with a spring roll and cheese wonton. The sesame chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside with a sweet, spicy and tangy taste. Surprisingly better than many other sesame chicken in town. Certainly will come back. Heard their black bean sauce dishes were among the must tries. read more

The food is not very good. I love sweet and sour soup and this place had almost nothing in it and the flavor was a bit sweet with lots of black pepper. The worst I've had anywhere. My meal had slimy shrimp with mixed vegetables. Greasy oil dripping egg rolls. Nothing inside but cabbage. Tofu app was ok. The fortune cookies were garbage. They smelled so bad and stale I dare not take a bite of one. The fortunes inside all said "Manscaped" on them (WTF?) what does that word have to do with Asian food or fortune cookies?! We only had a handful of cookies and most of them were treat fortunes inside. Like seriously they're all that much the same? Won't order again. read more

Amazing service! The lady was kind and talkative. We ordered soup and she brought us a bigger portion to "warm us up" since it was quite cold outside. She also brought us complementary egg rolls! Absolutely fire! This is a must try and a must return! We had the Mongolian beef w white rice, some crab n cheese wontons and spring rolls. My gf and I both cleared our plates. Great local spot with incredibly friendly staff. I got the Szechuan chicken and my friend got the Mongolian beef and both of us really enjoyed our meal. There was a good spice level, but it sounded like they'd be willing to accommodate if you wanted it more mild or more spicy. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. read more

That said, I know how yelp reviews works for these type of places (Mexican as well), if it's over maybe 4 stars it means the place caters to white people and is less authentic, but 3.5-4 stars means more authentic. First, the positive: the person who greeted and served us was sweet; they were kind and fast. The rest are all negatives, unfortunately. Environment: We came at around 7:30 pm on a Friday night. It took a good long walk in the cold to even FIND the restaurant (good luck navigating the construction project at night -- JJ's in on the second floor), and this place was 100% empty and eerily quiet when we came in. It was genuinely creepy. The posters inside are taped up in a way that looks like a 3 year old did it. The plastic-stand drink menu was smeared with a sticky, amber liquid. There's a random empty table-sized cubby with two large rocks next to an outlet in the smack center of the space. I should have listened to my gut and walked out the moment my partner & I arrived but I've been pleasantly surprised before, so we stayed. Food: Barely a step above vile. We got the family meal (for two) that includes soup, an egg roll/wonton appetizer, two entrees and a couple cookies. The egg drop soup was so unbelievably oily that we both decided after our first spoonful that we would not be having any more. The egg roll/wonton appetizer was better, but it didn't come out hot. The two entrees were the best part, and still one came out cold ... and they too were *swimming* in oil. I don't consider myself to be a particularly good cook, honestly. But when I can make better food than a restaurant, I am deeply confused because that is literally y'all's entire job ... you make and serve food professionally. So how the food can be that disgusting without this place going out of business bewilders me. read more

This place is very hard to access and honestly kind of scary. There is construction in the complex its on the second floor of. You have to walk through several alleys in the cold. The food was disgusting. Ive never had Chinese I didnt like, the orange chicken had no sauce and smelled really bad. Ordered delivery while staying in hotel downtown. Was prompt and the amount of food was well worth the cost. We thought it was amazing. We ordered the Beef Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken, Chicken Stir Fried Mei Fun and Mongolian Beef. None of it was over saturated with sauce like I'm accustomed to getting at other Chinese restaurants. It was absolutely delicious and I believe the leftovers, which were a lot, will heat up nicely. read more

My fiancé and I decided to eat here because it was right above the Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival on the 2nd floor, and my goodness this place has the best Chinese food I've eaten since moving to Denver. If youre trying to beat the crowds, we went here around 4 or 5pm, beat the dinner rush. Ambience felt homely and chill for being in the middle of downtown. My fiancé had been looking for a place with good Pad Thai, and she said her food was exceptional. I've been here before and had the Sesame chicken, which is always amazing, but this time, I tried fried rice with just egg. Best fried rice in a thousand miles. The lady who helped us was so kind and funny. She took care of us, and it felt homely, like I was back in Hawaii eating at the authentic Chinese places. I feel bad for not catching her name, but it felt like when you come home from school and Ma takes care of your meal and it's too good and somehow nostalgic. Prices are reasonable, and portions are pretty generous considering the state of the world. I left full and happy that there was Cocacola. I got my fiancé a Boba tea to go, and we decided that we will be coming back as long as we live here in CO. Can't beat good food and good service, a place that values their customers and values the food they serve. My only gripe is not really with JJ's but more about how downtown is hard to find parking, and how it's a bit confusing to get to the restaurant. I live in Boulder but when I hit downtown Denver this is the spot for the last ten years. I spend a lot of time in Manhattan in the LES. This place has that Chinatown vide. There isn't some hipster yuppy trying to serve you so call authentic food. They now me by name and are super nice and respectful. Great price for what you are getting. When the Louisville fire ravaged that town a few years ago the owner was worried about me knowing I lived in Boulder. Great people, mad respec. read more

The food was inedible. Grossly overcooked sesame chicken that had very crispy, tasteless shredded chicken inside the thick breading. The egg foo young gravy was a greasy, tasteless liquid probably from the bottom of a broiler pan. The egg portion was also very crispy around the edges, tasteless, and extremely greasy. Huge waste of $50 and waiting an hour for food I could not eat was aggravating. I will never order from here again. It was disgusting. I wouldn't even feed it to a homeless dog, that would be inhumane. You couldn't pay me try it again. I'd rather starve. read more
