I've been frequenting this restaurant since the beginning of the year. The food is absolutely scrumptious and the owners are such great people. I really love the pork lo mein, the sauce is very sweet and delicious. Also, the sesame chicken is very tangy, and the chicken is well portioned. Great wontons and egg rolls - not overly greased. We visited this adorable local restaurant (in the sadly mostly empty but still charming Sakura Square) while traveling through Denver in a cross country move from California to Indiana. I had the General Tso's chicken which was exactly how you'd like it: it did not have the tough, gristly brown meat that some cheaper places use for this. It was slightly spicy without being overwhelming. Wife had almond chicken which seemed tasty. Proprietor was welcoming and kind. Noticed some customers eating there on the way to the Rockies game, so it must be a good location for that. read more

So disappointed. Order thru GrubHub was a miserable fail - food was still not delivered 1 hr 20 mins after placing order. So I called the restaurant directly only to discover that my food had been made but still had not left the restaurant and was asked if I could come and pick it up?!? Frustrated but hungry, I agreed to drive over and get my order. I arrive to find that there is a line of folks checking out from having eaten in and apologies are being made to several of them for issues during their lunch service. I pay again at the restaurant and am finally given my food with no charge for my Thai tea for my troubles, and told my prepaid order will be cancelled through Grub Hub and I will be refunded (eventually in 3-5 biz days). My food was stone cold - no warmth in ANY of my food. The 'prawns in lobster sauce' dish was a bland disappointment with shell bits still on the shrimp posing as prawn impostors. At least the Vietnamese egg roll re-heated well and was the only bright spot in this lunch tragedy. We'll see how smoothly the GrubHub refund goes, but still being charged full price for an abysmal experience with sub-par food quality I am completely done with this place. First impression ruined! read more

I'll be honest, this place right by where I live, so if I want Chinese takeout, this is where I'm going to get it... I haven't tried more then a couple items on their menu because once I discovered how good their Shrimp Egg Foo Young was...well, it's really, really good. The first time I ordered it, the woman at the counter smiled and her eyes lit up, and she said that it was one of her favorites (it's certainly mine, now). I've had the Kung Pao Shrimp (it was good), and Shrimp Lo Mein (okay, but not my favorite--can you tell I like shrimp?). I should go for lunch from time to time, and try some other things on the menu, but if I want take-out, it's always going to be...Shrimp Egg Foo Young! Also, friendly staff, and it's always been pretty quick, too (I live close, so I just walk in and order for take-out, and it's never been more then a few minutes). read more

This is one of the best Chinese food restaurants I've ever eaten at. Not sure why they only have a 3-Star review on yelp. I would give them a 6 if I could. My cousin got the General Yao's chicken, and it was hands down the best I've ever eaten. I had the Hong Kong noodles and they were amazing! You can order it on a spicy level of 1-5. I got a level 3 spicy and it was just perfect. Not too spicy at all. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to Asian food. Just a note: the place is upstairs on the 2nd level. There's an exterior staircase in the courtyard! We walked around the whole first level of this building looking for the place and had to ask some locals where is was. They pointed us in the right direction and told us how good it was! read more

First we started out with crab cheese wonton and egg rolls. I've had better at Costco. Or maybe they are from Costco, and they let them freeze for a couple of weeks. Bottom line mediocre at best. I had the sweet and sour pork and my wife had the lo mein. Pork was dry and the breading was bland. Wife's Lo Mein was good. We also had boba tea with our meal. I feel like this place goes to a Chinese food whole sale company and buys all the "just microwave" foods. The boba tasted like it was mixed from a single serve packet. Wife's tasted even worse. But at the end of the day, you just want quick, cheap Chinese. This place with curb that craving. read more

My Kung Pao Chicken was terrible....the veggies tasted old and it was mostly a bunch of celery with a few giant chunks of carrots, peanuts and a water chestnuts and the sauce was pretty bland. Kung Pao I've had other places typically has peppers, onions, zucchini, red chili peppers and peanuts and the sauce is very flavorful and spicy. The person who took my phone order was very nice and so was the delivery driver but not happy with the food at all. read more

Have ordered delivery from here a half dozen times. Each time the delivery has taken nearly *two hours*. That'd be excusable if their food was any good... but it's not. Chicken dishes have tiny, thin, indecipherable slices and I've regularly received huge hunks of lettuce and other cheap filler. They've forgotten items in my order more than once. I generally don't write negative reviews unless I get repeat experiences.. this place deserves the one star. JJ bistro is dope-on-a-rope. Working downtown, i've found that this place can provide the perfect meal for wanting to slack off at work... i.e. 'i'm so full i couldn't possibly walk back to work.' i've also found that if one were to inquire about items 'not on the menu' they are more than happy to provide. In recent visits, i've been showered with foodgifts... steamed whole halibut, sea-bass/seaweed soup, rice/tapioca pudding, 'tofu skin,' the list goes on. As slow as this place is, it's not hard, i imagine, to remember customers, but the hospitality from 'the owner' ('an awesome lady') is quite remarkable. jokingly, i told her i was going to give her my phone number to call me when the kitchen was eating something special. she agreed to it. i'm not saying this is the end-all of authentic chinese, or that this is the most remarkable thing to hit the culinary world, it's just a good blend of good food, a good lady, and turning salt-and-pepper squid in to 'gosh darn it, people like me' UPDATE: She called. I've eaten at JJ's Bistro before, and I've had delivery from JJ's Bistro before. The food has been great. However, tonight, I was unable to enjoy the food at JJ's. Their menu clearly states "FREE DELIVERY within 3 miles and min. order of $15". I live well within three miles, yet tonight when I called, I was told "We don't deliver that far". I informed the lady that I lived well within three miles, and they have delivered to me before. She told me that tonight, they were 'too busy' to deliver to me. Had she said, "We are very busy tonight, and deliver will take an hour to an hour and a half", I would've understood. To flat out refuse delivery to someone within the defined delivery area? Unacceptable. Maybe I'm more enraged than usual because I'm pregnant and all I want is some damn tofu and vegetable soup. But I still think that's a horrible business practice. I informed her on the phone that she has now lost my business. Too bad for them, I'm a very loyal customer and a great tipper. And, a yelper... Oh, well. China Star's food AND customer service is far superior... Off to call them! read more

Fast friendly deliver, and the food perfectly average. Perfect when I need plain white rice covered in prepackaged kung pao with plenty of MSG. This is old school Americanized Chinese at it medicoreist. Big portions of the standards, nothing too fresh, nothing artsy. It sits there is a viscous oily stew perfect for the occasional hangover day. Sturdy, dependable, average. Nothing wrong with that. read more

Over priced mediocre Chinese food. I feel like I'm starting to sound like a cheapo in all my recent reviews.. Haha but its not like that. Its just, they serve you a normal amount of your order for double the price you should be paying. You would think with the price, the food would be coming out to be a huge feast each dish. But its not. It taste almost the same as the small, ghetto Chinese restaurants. Nothing different or special. The service was really good too. Really nice lady, who checked up on us constantly. I've got to say the decors in the restaurant are nice, and that's the difference then going to a fast food, Chinese restaurant. Oh and the bathroom, is REALLY scary! I felt like I was literally in a bathroom in Japan. I've never been to Japan, but seen a lot of Japanese horror films. Looks the same. Also, its a really nice location. Sakura square. Beautiful if you ever get the chance to explore. But if your looking for something cheap, and delicious. Go elsewhere. Remember, Dirty Chinese food, is ALWAYS the best. read more

I really loved this meal. I got a lunch special and the portion was right. The egg drop soup was good. The egg roll was really good, the wrap was light and crispy, perfectly done! Fail. Slow. Greasy-nasty. Ordered 1 entree (Stir-Fried Mei Fun: Chicken) and 1 app. (Pan friend dumpling). The delivery guy took an hour and a half (monday night, 8:45pm, clear weather). He wanted an additional credit tip after I handed him a cash tip....nope; thanks for playing. The Mei Fun noodles were pretty good, but the chicken was bland, boiled-tasting (pig disgusting). The Pan Fried Dumpling was a greasy sausage wrapped in the wonton wrap (uughhhh blech). It was about ~$15 before the tip. read more

JJs is just a few blocks from my apartment so we've been there a few times and have picked up food once. We've never been disappointed in the food yet. We even went here on Christmas Eve. It's so bizarre, every time we go we're the ONLY people in their although their phone rings constantly with delivery and take out orders. The service is speedy, funny and friendly. The menu is varied but not overwhelmingly huge and they seem to stick to things they can do well. Like Nicole W commented, the soup is never super hot, and could stand to be a few degrees warmer, but it's always tasty. Despite being in Sakura Square, JJs is definitely americanized chinese food, but not the bland, over cooked and soggy stuff that you find everywhere else. It's fresh, fast and the portions are definitely enough for two, or two meals for one. read more

Sorry, dozed off staring at my plate of a lonely egg roll, a scoop of white rice (would have preferred brown, but they didn't ask and I forgot to request) and sad "orange" chicken nuggets. I guess my expectations were enhanced by the fact the restaurant is in a building that is decorated with Asian touches and there are a bunch of Asian folks milling about. "Cool," I thought. "An Asian retirement home - the food must be good!" It took a while to figure out how to get to the second floor where J.J.'s Bistro is located. A nondescript run of the mill "Chinese" decor place with some booths along the west side and some cheap tables filling the floor. The hostess sat me a table near the front door. Thanks. There was only one other couple there at lunch time and they were in a booth. I decided not to move any closer to them to let them have their privacy. It wasn't worth the walk or the wait or the $6.75, sad to say, and on the way out I noticed all the locals were at a place on the first floor called "Yoko's Express" but I vowed I would never darken their door - Yoko broke up the Beatles as we know, and I would never be able to enjoy a meal in an establishment with that name. Lodo doesn't seem to be big on Chinese food as far as I've found. read more

I am pretty disappointed, ordered for Delivery and when given the total it seemed about $3 too high but decided not to make a big deal and just wait to see what the food is like. Maybe the online menu is out of date. 45 min later, I still had no food, called and got a voice mail, called back and was told that they got stuck but were on the way. An hour later, no food. My bank account has already been charged. Ok- One hour and ten minutes later I have food. My order is wrong. I hate steamed rice and I got steamed rice not fried like I ordered, and my food (except wontons) is barely even warm. The wontons I was excited to try are cold. I was so hungry I accepted food (I called and cancelled on the phone and the lady said whatever and hung up on me-she also said the menu has gone up) because the driver said he got a flat. All in all the (cold) food is not that good and this was a bad experience. They could have offered a few bucks off at the least for my inconvenience but instead they could not have cared less. read more

I've only ever been here for lunch, never dinner. It's a good spot for lunch because the service is quick, food cheap and lunch even comes with soup. The food itself was typical Americanized Chinese food, with sesame chicken being ordered by 75% of our group. I ordered Buddha's Delight and the sauce was overwhelmingly salty and artificial. I couldn't finish it because it felt so unhealthy to be eating. But if you're in the mood for Chinese, JJ's is worth a shot. read more

The original plan was to go to Yoko's Express but they were having a private party so we took it as a sign to try JJ's Bistro. Very friendly staff and more importantly, delicious food. We went at lunch and all of the dishes were around $7.50, give or take a quarter. I had squid with black bean sauce, the squid was juicy and just perfectly cooked. The other dish on the table was sesame chicken. Again, moist and well seasoned. Also, the wonton soup was superb. This is on the list of places to go again. read more

Ok, so after our last delivery meal from JJ's we've been craving it like mad. Tonight was the perfect opportunity: I worked late, was exhausted, didn't want to cook... BOOM! Chinese Delivery. Had the Sesame Beef (I was feeling like I didn't give a sh*t about fat content or calories) which was stellar, and my wife had the prawns with vegetables. Got home late last night, it was hot, hot, hot, nothing in the 'fridge, so ordered delivery from JJs based on a friends recommendation. I had the Thai Basil Chicken and an order of fried pot-stickers. I asked them to kick up the spice quotient on the entree which they did and it arrived piping hot as did the brown rice. Overall the dish was mediocre Chinese food. But... the pot-stickers. The pot-stickers were cold. And... burnt. Very burnt and very cold. No amount of dipping sauce can hide burnt. By now every one has experienced how most Chinese restaurants package up deliver their food: It's boxed, stacked and encased in a brown paper bag which is then tucked into a plastic sack. So one would expect that all of the food to be hot, right? Especially since the entree and rice were hot? How does that temperature difference happen if all 3 items were prepared for this delivery order? AND... why would a cook box up food that is *burnt* to have it go out on delivery? Why can't Chinese restaurants be GOOD Chinese restaurants? If you are taking the time to do something badly, why not just do it well in the first place? read more

(Warning - Treat this as a Chinese restaurant and you will not be disappointed. Their Sushi is awful. But the Chinese food is probably some of the best I have had in Colorado.) Sesame Chicken and Lemon Chicken are what we still have when we go there...both were very well prepared...moist without being greasy. The Sesame chicken was crispy on the outside despite being in sauce. I would go so far to say it is the best I have had at a Chinese Restaurant so far. I like how it does not need to be drowned in sauce. The Chicken would actually be great even without sauce. Service is always great whenever we go there. This is my choice for Chinese downtown.
