I love this spot bc overall it beats driving to SGV which is the Mecca of Chinese massage in SoCal. The place is simple not luxurious and you can get either a great foot massage or full body massage. They run different prices and the tip which is expected is not included in the price list. I'm a good tipper so I've never had an issue. But if you think you're going to get a massage at one of these places and then pull a "oh I didn't like the massage so I'm not tipping" think again. The staff will give you the business and ask you not to return bc they feel as if you're ripping them off. I know, in American culture, tipping is discretionary, but in Asian culture if you work in the service industry you expect a tip; no ifs ands or buts. It's a cultural difference, so like Biggie said "And if you don't know; now you know." If you're on a date and you want to get a sneak preview of what date looks like semi-nude, you can get a couples massage which is done in private simultaneously. I want to mention the tipping system, which I perceive as dishonest. For a 60 min, full body, private massage ($40), I tipped $5. I thought it was a great deal for a broke person looking to get a massage without the fancy add ons. HOWEVER, as I was signing my receipt, I was informed that the private rooms have a minimum $10 tipping policy. Which makes the total bill $50, and is the same as I would have paid at Spaahbulous in chinatown. I was very mellow after the massage and didn't want to belabor the point. So fine. As a customer, I wish they would have been upfront about the fee, and not leave me walking away feeling like I was swindled. I would have been happy to try out this spot for $45. The massage itself was satisfactory. I had asked for the focus to be on my back, shoulders, neck and scalp. You could tell they have a set routine that they go through, and the masseuse was not really feeling out your muscles to see if you were tighter on one side vs the other, or if you've relaxed after she's worked on a particular muscle. read more

This is a true story... While you can't expect the world from a $20 foot massage and the $40 total body massage...you can certainly expect better than this. Scenario 1: My friend got the $20 foot massage, half way through, he felt the pressure wasn't hard enough for him, so he told the therapist to apply more pressure. I'm guess she could not apply anymore, so she simply just switched with the other therapist next to her. When she switched over, she didn't know which foot had been worked on already, so she simply just picked one. Wrong choice!, she picked the same foot. The end result was that, my friend got his feet rubbed while his girlfriend just got a "foot" massage. Scenario 2: The water was luke warm for soaking your feet, and they use the plastic bags to line the bucket which doesn't feel that great on your feet after 20 minutes. The total time spent on your feet was just about 20 minutes. The other half of the time they spend on your neck, back, lower back and legs. That all sounds good because you get all the extra massage; however, the pressure was too light, and there was no technique at all. At one point, my elbow was rubbing on the wooden chair making a grinding sound! I hope that wasn't on purpose...but it certainly felt like it. Scenario 3: My friend was butt naked for his total body massage where the girl didn't have enough strength and power to provide him with the right pressure. He felt uncomfortable because the provided towel was not covering the right spots. He felt that the girl should have paid him because she got a free show. Scenario 4: My friend was massaged by a male therapist. She felt uncomfortable as well because he kept talking to her in a low creepy voice. Go here if you like to pay for funny stories...but don't waste your money if you want a decent massage. read more

I've gotten many wonderful $20 massages at other places so I know what to compare it to and my masseuse really had no idea what she was doing. Been here more times than I can count, professional team I must say. A full body massage is $40 and should they ever be busy, they will escort you to JJs "#1" which is right around the corner, or they'll call staff to come in from that shop. Owner is very nice, makes sure you're happy. I've fortunately never been asked for a tip, I naturally tip. I'm not sure why others have complained about being asked for one, masseuse don't make much money, similar to hair dressers/barbers, the money you pay primarily goes to the owners. My fiancé and I come here frequently for some cheap R&R. You can call and make an appointment or walk-in (haven't had to wait more than 15-20 minutes as a walk-in). It's $20/hr for a foot massage, which is what I always get here. The foot massage is actually a full body massage, you just don't take your clothes off, they spend some extra time on your feet, and it's done in a communal room containing four massage chairs rather than a private room. You start in a reclined position with your feet in tub of hot water and they do your scalp, shoulders, arms, feet, and legs. Then you turn over and fully lie down (with your face in those hole things typically on massage tables) and they do the back side of your legs, your butt, and your back. It's a great deal. I've probably had a massage from every employee that works there, and while they have not always been consistent in style, they have always been good massages. Some of them ask if the pressure is ok, but if they don't, simply ask them to adjust it to your preference and they will. They also have the regular full body massages on a massage table for $40/hr, which I have yet to try. You can pay with credit card, but I usually pay at least the tip in cash. As far as tipping goes, I usually give 35-40% as a tip (which only translates to $7-$8) because I'm not sure how much they actually take home, and also because they have never been pushy about the tip. I've been to some places that post how much you should tip based on your experience (with emoticons showing how you felt and everything - totally awkward), and been chased down into the parking lot even though I tipped 20%, which was super uncomfortable. The employees here have never done that (even when I used to tip less). It looks a little seedy from the outside but it's totally not. All the people there are very nice, the facilities are clean, and you can't beat the price. read more

There are rooms that are private for back massage and an area in the front for people that just want there feet massaged. I got to combo. So awesome , she worked out all my knots in my back then got a great foot rub. I thought it was going to be $60 because it felt like a $40 full body massage then a $20 foot massage but the lady in the front said $40. I tipped the therapist $20. I just moved to downtown and am way happy with JJ's spa . Price and Service 10/10 and fun cheesy music. The atmosphere is a little janky but my eyes are closed for the most part anyways. Cheap but very different from Americanized professionals. I'm used to an intake with health issues, current aches and pains, medications, and instructions... There was none of that. Do not go if you're pregnant since there's no option to tell them not to jab those pressure points that induce labor. They just point to a bed and don't tell you not to go under the cover. In fact, they'll pull the curtain open and tell you and your naked self to get up and lay like your neighbor is. Which leads me to 3 tips: don't go under the sheet- they literally want you lying naked where passerbys can see you when the curtain moves. Do not be surprised when they yank down your underwear without asking if it's ok- tell them ahead of time if that's not ok. And when they seem to leave for 5 minutes and you wonder if you should get up and get dressed, be prepared for a burning hot washcloth to scorch your back at any second. Communication would have been nice, even a pre-printed card with directions and expectations if English is a barrier. They were very direct and forceful with their massages in a way that is more muscularly therapeutic than emotionally. Love this place for a good cheap massage locally without having to drive to the SGV. This is not your typical luxurious spa. It's a down and dirty Chinese massage parlor. None of the staff really speaks english, but they get the point. I recommend getting the combo massage where you get the full treatment in a private room. Ask for Angela she's one of the best. The only thing I don't like is when they dig their elbows into your back and shoulders. It can get really painful, but if you let them know they are hurting you they usually stop. I asked for a foot massage and after 30 min The guy told me to turn around and start massaging my back and it was like a torture. He went so savage that I had to yell ouch! For the price, this should be 5 stars, but alas, it's just not as good as my fave foot massage place, Shanghai Foot Massage. However, it is within walking distance of the Chinatown metro station, which is nice since I don't have a car at college. I have been here twice, the first time, I got a foot massage with one of my friends, and the second time, I came for a body massage. The foot massage is $20 for an hour, which is nice since they work on the rest of your body. This massage would have been great if my lady hadn't left multiple times or wasn't on her phone texting throughout the entire massage. Meh. Also my friend felt like he was groped but he's White and doesn't really understand that Asians aren't uptight or picky about anything (which is why Chinatown is so cheap, slightly filthy, and also the love of my life) but that was definitely a con since no one should feel violated during a massage. Like I said, not as great as Shanghai foot massage. BUT, they do use hot oil on your feet here which is super hydrating and feels really, really, nice. When I came for a body massage ($40), there was more of a language barrier (though I suppose that's on me since my dumb second generation self doesn't speak Chinese) and I don't think she understood my right trapezius muscle needed working on despite my repeated pointing, but whatever. Anyways, you're covered with a towel, which covers almost nothing because it is constantly moved around, but like I said, Asians aren't shy about nudity and as someone who goes to Korean Spas, it didn't really bother me! The massage is first over a towel so it's more of an acupressure/shiatsu type of deal, and then they put oil on you and it's more of a Western style massage. These massages are DEEP TISSUE. So be warned. She really worked my scapula muscles and my butt (not kidding) but I felt so relaxed afterwards. I had makeup on when I went this time, so she asked if she could work on my face, which was really considerate of her. The scalp massage was lovely as well, and after it was all finished she sat me up and gave me a quick upper back massage. It was so nice of her since I think I was just pointing to my shoulder and not the trap muscle. The only major con to this was halfway through, the owner comes in and awakens me from my tranquil state to ask me my name because a bunch of White people were outside in the main area looking for their friend who was lost... ugh. Couldn't really relax after that. Super annoying. Anyways, this place would probably only be a 3 star place if it weren't for the great prices, but for 20 or 40 bucks an hour, can you really go wrong? Not really. I'll be back to try the hot stone massage! It's only $50 an hour!! PS I finally saw JJ's Massage this time, but I feel like this place should be called JJ's Massage 2... or something. I didn't realize this place existed and went to Spaahbulous and More nearby for a little bit (sort of uncomfortable there, they have no reclining chairs and so you have to sit straight up while they knead your back). This review is for their location on N. Broadway in Chinatown. My husband & I have been there twice now & absolutely love this place. The staff is always courteous & friendly & took us in as walk ins right away without a wait. They have one room for couples massage (which we used both times) & 2 rooms with just one table. $40 is a great deal for a full body massage as I'm a massage therapist also & charge close to $150 for an hour where I'm from. They do give a lot of pressure (it's one of the deepest massages I've had) but they definitely know what they're doing. We both felt great afterwards & my husband's back pain pretty much went away after our session. The only thing that might put poeple on edge is the way we were draped & covered. They only use a bath towel (not a sheet) & most of the time it was slipping off our bodies exposing everything. We've received enough massages in our lifetime & are comfortable with our bodies that it didn't bother us much & it didn't seem to bother them either. Let me just say... ITS WORTH IT! I came in a little excited because I've been overdue for a body massage but a little skeptical because it is Chinatown. I walked in and was seen right a way by Yaya . I got the deep tissue and she started off real smooth and set the tone, I almost wanted to tell her more pressure but didnt & Im glad I didnt. She knew what she was doing and did it well. Not really sure how the negative reviews happened...been coming here regularly for the last year or so and have always had a consistently good if not great experience. I started out doing the foot massage in the communal area but a pinched nerve took me into the $40 rooms and I haven't been able to go back. I've had massages from everyone there. They'll go the pressure you'd like. Katie and Zoe are both great and so is the woman who is kind of the head honcho-I forgot her name. For $40 you can't beat this place. I always tip at least 20% as that's still a great deal and I don't know how much these guys actually take home. I always get fit in as a walk in although once they walked me to the location on Broadway cause they were out of rooms. They even said they would put extra money in my meter cause I had to walk over...these guys are a class act. read more

Friendly place, clean and a harder massage! This is what I like. I've been to a LOT of Chinese massage places and this one is pretty good. Fair prices, and the owner seems to take care of his employees. I came in once pretty late, and a group of people came in without an appointment and he politely said he couldn't take them. I respected him for that, instead of keeping people overtime to make some extra money. But primarily, the massages are good. I asked for deep tissue and kept having to tell the masseuse to go deeper. A whole lot of rubbing skin on skin, no rubbing out my knots. My friend and i went together and she got hers started before mine. I asked for an hour and got shorted five min, because the masseuse ended my massage RIGHT AFTER my friend got her massage done with, yet i started five min after. Than when it came to pay, i paid the$40 and the owner looked at me and said "oh nothing for her??" implying i give a tip. I said "excuse me?" she replied "no tip?" i honestly felt like she didn't deserve a tip since she really didn't rub out my knots like i expected.
