Made a visit to The Spot with my family to grab some dinner and decided to try something unique on the menu -- Diablo Shrimp. Their menu is massive and a bit overwhelming if you're trying the place out for the first time. Lots of drink options, plenty of variety to please anyone in a big group. The Diablo shrimp was excellent and had just the right amount of spice. I give this 5/5 stars simply just because you knew it was made to order by how fresh the shrimp tasted and how perfectly sautéed the veggies were. Overall rating is 3/5 stars because the staff clearly has a disconnect with managements customer service expectations and there's no real sense of "welcome" when you arrive. You sorta have to flag someone down to be seated, bartenders have a "what do you want" type of attitude and that's a bit off putting, no matter how good the meal is. They also have The Spot in Galveston ,and that's the original location so knew food had to be good. As soon as I finally arrived I had to ordered me a drink. All my cousins recommended to me to get the Mardi Gras Margarita for $6. And, our waitress was very friendly, and she said it was tasted pretty good too. Because the traffic on 45-S was ridiculous , and for all the Saturday's they wanted to do maintenance ,or repairs on the freeway. Also, the ambiance at this location was also colorful and spacious. Great time tonight with wonderful service. We sat out on the patio because of the nice cool weather. Plenty of room for the kids to run around before we ate. I had Uncle Bill's Famous Shrimp Po' Boy with Waffle Fries. Should have asked for extra sauce but still delicious. Waffle Fries were hot and crispy. This is the second location, original is in Galveston. This one has a nice feel to it but it can't compare to the beach view of the original (sorry). We were hungry! We got up early in Cincinnati to catch our flight to League City. We hadn't eaten for 12 hours. We were looking forward to a tasty meal. The restaurant has a nice vibe. Service was amicable and, boy howdy, the food was brought out FAST! Compared to The Spot in Galveston, I appreciated the wait service vs. ordering at the counter. I appreciated the drink coasters that kept our drinks from drenching the table. The Spinach Artichoke dip was pretty flavorful and I enjoyed the chips. The serving looked small at first, but the bowl in which it served was deceptively deep. My sister really enjoyed the seared salmon. Mark and I both had fish and chips. It was pretty good. The waffle fries were delicious when they arrived hot and still delicious after they sat for a while. I didn't care for the cole slaw. My brother-in-law enjoyed his crispy fish sandwich. Finally got out to Texas to give this place a try. I've had it on my list but haven't been near Galveston. I love this location in League City as it is really spacious and parking and access is easy. Ample seating inside so you shouldn't have too much of a wait. They serve traditional American fare and promptly get out entrees. We got the hot honey chicken, cheese sticks, and shrimp poboy. The chicken sandwich was bigger than my husbands hand. His only complaint was that it was a little more breading than chicken. The shrimp pivot was perfect. Shrimp seasoned and fried to perfection. I usually don't like log cheese sticks but these were good. High recommend for a bite and get that drink flight to go with it. read more

So our history with the Spot has been the Galveston location before it became "The Spot" even back in the day it was super popular and we would have to rush up there on Sundays to find a place to sit. So we were glad to hear this place opened up. It's super cute inside, love the table service! We arrived right at Happy hour, so we had a few apps. The calamari was hot honey and it was delicious. We also had the fried pickles, the Diablo shrimp, and a taco. We also had a pear and ginger margarita, the margarita of the month. Service was great, nice and clean, and food was great too. Next time I will have the Cobb salad, which is what I wanted but got carried away with the apps. I got excited about seeing dogs welcome, but only service dogs. I love the way Dennis Byrd supports his staff. Which is what reminded us to try this location. Will be back!! read more

First i LOVE The Sot on the sea wall. This is more a nod to the concept than an extension of the experience. Waited quite a while for service (half empty restaurant) and service was lacking the friendliness I expected. The waiter was EXTREMELY sensitive to my allergies, more so than 90% of the restaurants we go to --bonus on that!! Onion rings & sweet potato tots were good. We frequently go to the island location and have never had an issue. Ordered 2 flights one was the tropical other was the margarita. On the island I order the marg on the rocks, never had an issue. At the LC location I was told they never do that and they can't substitute. So I was like well let's give it a go. I shouldn't have. every marg tasted the exact same and none were good. Then my mom tried the other flight, there was what I think was something with pineapple in it, it tasted super bitter like the juice was sour. I said something to the waitress about it but she kinda shrugged it off. For the next 3 hours I was vomiting. we called to speak to the manager and was told everything was made fresh, and maybe it was something else or I had to much. so I was given bad juice in a drink, and it's my fault. They have been featuring different margaritas every month for only $6 and was finally able to try this month's flavor- Blood Orange Margarita- it was refreshingly delicious! Had the tried and true shrimp poboy, and also ordered a smash burger, buffalo wings that I forgot to take pics of- highly recommended! The Spot in Texas City is a fantastic place to grab a meal--I've been several times, and the food never disappoints. My go-to is the shrimp po' boy, which is always fresh and packed with flavor. I like to add the hot honey sauce from the chicken sandwich, and let me tell you, that sauce is next-level! The fish tacos are another great option--they've been consistently delicious on every visit. While the service was a little slow this time (I got my beer just a couple of minutes before my food arrived), it didn't take away from the overall experience. Was finally able to try this new location. I had only ever been to the one in Galveston previously but after trying both, I can say that I definitely like this location better. I went on a Saturday for lunch with a friend and it was not crowded at all and service was prompt. The decor is so cute and the food was pretty good. I had fish tacos and hot lemon pepper wings. My only complaint with the wings is that they could have been seasoned differently. It's like the seasoning dust was just sprinkled on top of the wings instead of cooked into them. But one thing I did love is that apparently there was a special on the wings so I got them half price which was very appreciated. Our waiter was super attentive, especially to one of our friends who chugs water like nobody's business. I ordered the Fish & Chips, and while the batter on both the fish and fries was crispy and flavorful, the fish itself was a bit too hard and dry. I've been here twice, but I have been to the location in Galveston many times since it has opened. This location has a different set up, but the atmosphere is still great. I tried one of the frozen margaritas, and it was pretty strong. I'm not complaining because it was good. I also was in the mood for the Spot appetizer sampler as my main dish. It was perfect with the margarita as we watched football on one of the screens near the bar. The service was very good, and the waiter provided good suggestions. If you order the Spot appetizer sampler, you can pick the flavor of your wings. The menu states that it's the hot wings, but the waiter informed me that I can change the flavor. I chose the lemon pepper wings. They were crispy and good. I liked all of the items in the platter. The shrimp kisses were cooked perfectly and the bacon was nice and crispy. read more

Having visited its sister location on the island, I knew what to expect. I believe the building itself was a previous restaurant. It is in a high traffic area. Parking is plentiful. What is different here is that you are given the option to dine in with waitstaff or order at the walk-up counter. Their email club brought us in for the complimentary birthday appetizer for my wife. We went with the sampler, and it is huge, probably a meal for two easily. We did end up ordering everything from the counter. I went with the shrimp po-boy, and my wife got the fish and chips. Our daughter nibbled off the sampler. So the prices have changed a bit higher. And even though you order at the counter, you are still somewhat serviced by waitstaff. The dilemma you may face is feeling obligated to tip twice. The counter terminals prompt for a tip. Of course, it is totally up to you. Overall, the vibe is fun and inviting with the up tempo music. There is a 360 wrap around bar that was crowded possibly for happy hour. I'm not sure if they have that, though. Overall it is worth a visit. read more

The atmosphere is loud, lots of TVs playing, tons of seating including outdoor area and a play area for the kids. It very much mimics what a Chilis, TGI Friday is going for, but it seems like they are stretching themselves too thin here. The service was fine, nothing special. The food was disappointing. Again, nothing bad, but really bland, boring and forgettable. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered one of their burgers. The irony is that The Spot offers a wide variety of menu items to choose from - so many things that catch your eye, but as your searching you don't really see anything REALLY good. As of this writing, the establishment was conducting a soft opening ahead of its official introduction post-Labor Day. The Spot League City is housed in a building that was once a breast-aurant called Tight Ends. But unlike its predecessor, The Spot provides clean, pristine family friendly environment and is likely to be a bigger, stronger draw. I used to frequent the original Spot, which had the oh-so delicious ribeye steak sandwich. Here, I helped myself to the Ahi Poke Salad. You should've seen my eyes when my waiter brought it out to me. It was in a bowl almost big enough to feed at least two people. The vegetables and the ahi chunks were fresh, plentiful, and nicely doused in a flavorful lemon-balsamic vinaigrette. There was much of the salad I ended up getting it boxed. Overall, I have a new go-to item. May I add that you have to start your lunch or dinner with the fried pickles, of which the kitchen staff gives a generous amount. They were served right from the fryer, with each bite a burst of sour goodness. Just like the previous places I reviewed, The Spot presents itself as somewhere I could catch my Astros, Rockets, and Texans. I have to be 100% honest. We dicided to give this place a try while it's still going through it's grand opening growing pains. Wait time on Wednesday night 8pm was about 30 min., not too bad. Our bar height table was way too close to our neighboring table. The staff and patrons kept bumping into our table while waking by. Very, very, very annoying. The table and seats were wet when we sat down, not a nice welcome. Atleast you know the seats were wiped down. The waitress was super nice, as was any other employee we dealt with. Super nice and courteous. I tried to order Miller lite, surprise surprise they were out. I had to order dos x, cause I sure as heck ain't ordering bud light. Wife had fish tacos which she enjoyed. Not enough cheese sauce and doesn't come with salsa. Son had the burger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms. He said it was tasty, but it was rather small for a burger from the adult menu. He's 10 years old and he says it was small. See picture. Waitress up sold him on the onion rings, she should ask the parents not the kid. My daughter had the chicken strip kids meal. It was sad ok for a kids meal. I ordered the shrimp and fish po-boy. I was disappointed to find out the fish is tilapia, expected it to atleast be catfish. Generous portion of shrimp, the fish was rather limp and not crispy. Had to ask for tartar sauce. Only hot sauce option was Tabasco. I ordered two dos xx drafts. The original location of The Spot is a Galveston Island icon. Needless to say, League City was excited to get a location in northern Galveston County. I intentionally waited a few weeks before visiting the new location to make sure most of the kinks were worked out before I arrived and wrote them a review. There are pros and cons to the new location. So let's get started. Pros - First, the menu and food seems to be just as diverse and good as the Galveston Island location. One of the primary differences in the two locations is the League City location has two options available for dining in. There is a section reserved for table service and there are sections that are reserved for counter service. This is different than the original location in the fact that the entire restaurant on Galveston Island is counter service only. There were only two in our party and a 30 minute wait for table service so we quickly opted for counter service. After perusing the menu, we opted to get an appetizer and a burger and split both. Shrimp Kisses is a bacon wrapped shrimp served on a bed of fried onion strings. For the burger, we ordered the Ralph Burger. It also has bacon and onion strings piled on the burger. If I'm honest, we did not notice the duplicity until after we paid. Otherwise, we may have changed it up slightly. We ordered the burger cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly. The shrimp kisses were also very good. There were open tables in the counter area that are FCFS so we grabbed a small table for two. They gave us a buzzer so they could bring us our food. A burger and appetizer with two waters was $30. Not too bad. The cons - The biggest difference I noticed was the physical temperature of the food was warm to slightly cool by the time we received it. This is a definite negative. The original location's food is always served hot. In this instance, the food was not served at the correct temperature. Although it all tasted good, it should have been hotter. The fries were already cold, the burger and shrimp were lukewarm at best. I was definitely disappointed. The other major difference was the age of the employees. It seems that the employees that were hired at League City were much younger than the professionals that work at The Spot on Galveston Island. They just didn't seem to move with the same urgency as the folks on the island. Going back to the food temperature, I can't help but wonder if the food sat on a counter somewhere cooling down while it was waiting to be brought to the table. Bottom line - League City will never be able to compete with the original location simply because of the Seawall/beach. Since that is the case, owners and management need to ensure that everything else that makes The Spot iconic is, well, spot on. As for now, it isn't. I'll give them 4-stars for now. If the food temperature improves, I'll bump it up to 5-stars. If it doesn't, it will drop to 3-stars. Bon appétit, y'all. read more

About 8 months ago I visited The Spot in Galveston, TX. That visit was AMAZING. 5-star all day. When I saw there was a new location opened in League City, we made a point to come during our staycation... unfortunately, it didn't compare to the original. The building itself is gorgeous. I love the Island look and the vibe inside. Our server was good. The negatives are with the food and the speed of service. It was disappointing that the locations have different menus. I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich at the other location (and it was AMAZING) and was looking forward to having it again, only this Spot doesn't have it. (But they DO offer a fried chicken sandwich and they offer wings... why not have a Buffalo chicken sandwich on the menu??) I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich instead and my daughter ordered kids sliders. Our order took awhile to come out. People sat after us got their order delivered at the same time as ours. Not a huge deal but I noticed. Anyways, I took a bite of my sandwich and it tasted like seafood and was extremely salty. (PS I HATE SEAFOOD.) I thought maybe I imagined it and took another bite and nope... it tasted like seafood. Our server brought it back and they made me a new one. I asked them to leave the seasoning off the chicken as well. The new one was 1000x better. I don't know what they did different but no hint of seafood and tasted great without whatever seasoning they used the first time. He reassured me that the shrimp doesn't go on the same grill area as the chicken... which makes me question even more WHY my chicken tasted like fish/shrimp if they don't go on the same grill??? (I told my dad about the seafood-tasting-chicken and he said maybe it was spoiled... which now makes me even more nervous!!!!) Needless to say, the new sandwich took another 15+ min to come out. A big positive were the fries. They were absolutely amazing! Overall, despite fixing my sandwich, I felt this visit was disappointing.
