I've been here a few times and this has become my favorite burger spot. When I asked some friends what is the best burger spot in Houston, they said Joy Love Burger so of course I had to investigate. I assumed this was an offshoot of that based on the initials and I don't think I'm wrong. The burgers are always good here! They season the meat, which gives it that extra flavor. To me though, the star of the show is the croissant like bun. It's always so soft and delicious! It's also nice that the kids meal is a decent size burger with fries and a regular drink. Why didn't I discover this place earlier? I was surprised how close I was from my location so decided to stop by for lunch. The staff were super sweet and nice. There was lots of seating and a self serving style. I also noticed they had color pencil and paper bags for the kids to do. I order 2 of the comb of 2 piece fish and 6 piece shrimp (Cajun style). Which came with 3 pieces of onion rings, a piece of toast, 1 hush puppy, and some fries as sides. Everything was fried to a perfect crisp but wasn't oily and didn't become soggy. Though I wished the fish and shrimp had a little bit more flavor but it did come with your choice of tartar sauce or cocktail sauce which helped. I also ordered the fried Oreo which had a super nice crispy outside and soft inside. Overall, I highly recommend coming and trying their food. I've had my fair share of fish n chips plus burgers. The average American consumes about 3 cheeseburgers a week or 150 a year coming out to 50 billion cheeseburgers annually. I've had cheap and expensive burgers but Jlb cheeseburger has to be top 10 for me all time. I was blown away how good the overall taste was. I was not expecting it to be that good. The best part of the burger are the buns. What!? The bread? Too me it tasted like a fresh baked egg burger, made from scratch. It was nice and soft with ultra fluffy interior. Fresh vegetables, creamy American cheese, and lovely meat patty. Must get a double meat, I recommend with extra cheese. I love the crispy edges on the meat patty, that tells me it was cooked not on a grill. A must try with the house 1000 island sauce and ranch. The white fish cornmeal is great, moist fish with crispy cornmeal, nice amount of salt. I will say for the price under $6 for 1 piece is a little expensive plus it was ultra thin. The London fish style is the best way to go. The batter is nice and beer battered and with the type of batter it doesn't dry out the fish. Add the house tartar sauce and the battered fish was amazing. Plus it was more plump and juicy the white fish. I decided to try out the chili and for $1 it's good, the chili is nice and earthy, great meat flavor, I can see the chunks of meat inside the chili as well. The tater tots tasted old and refried and were way too greasy. The fries were okay, but still different than usual. Both the chicken sandwich and the fish were disappointing -- the filets were thinner than expected, with more breading than meat, and they were fried way too hard. WOW! I have no words other than that. I am new to the Houston area from Southern California, home of In-N-Out. I know GREAT burgers when I have one, and this place doesn't disappoint and lives up to its near perfect ratings. The bread is baked in house and is absolutely phenomenal! The owner, J.R., is a So Cal local who moved to Houston years back to raise his family, and he couldn't have been any nicer to my 94 year old grandma, my Uncle and me. My Uncle suggested taking us here, and honestly I have been thinking about this burger since I left there last Saturday! I got the burger with bacon and avocado and it was nothing short of delectable goodness in my mouth until the last bite. The fries were cooked perfectly and the staff was kind, courteous and kept the place very clean! They had these amazing deep fried Oreo cookies for dessert which were amazing, and that's coming from a guy who isn't a huge fan of sweets. I will be back very soon to try other things on the menu since my Uncle told me their fish sandwich is pretty amazing as well! The FOOD was great. We had cheese burger, fish, quesadilla, and the wings. First of all, the bread was so fresh, soft and buttery almost like brioche bread. The toast that accompanies the fish was also like French bakery quality. The Angus beef patty was juicy and seasoned just perfect! $15.10 for the worst burger ever. I just heard about this place and decided to check it out since they were close to work and offered Angus burgers. Big mistake. I walked in and the place was almost completely empty. That was the first red flag. It had the ambiance of a cheap, hole-in-the-wall diner. The girl behind the counter greeted me and asked me if I was ready to order. I informed her that it was my first time there and that I wanted to try the Angus burger. She said, "We're known for our burgers." So I ordered the Angus burger and she asked if I wanted to make it a combo with fries and a drink. I agreed to it but was shocked when the total came to $15.10. That should have been the second red flag but I thought to myself that this burger must be amazing for the price to be that high. She handed me a small plastic cup for my drink. It was the kind of cup that you get at a fast food restaurant when you ask for a small cup for water. That should have been the third red flag. I sat in one of the many empty booths while I waited for the expensive burger. While waiting, a strange looking, chubby, little man in nurse's scrubs walked in. I'm assuming he worked at the hospital down the street. He placed his order and even though he had all of the empty tables and booths in the whole restaurant to choose from, he decided to sit in the booth right next to mine. He began loudly whistling to the songs on the radio. I got the impression that he was trying to get my attention so I just ignored him. After awhile, he started watching videos on his cell phone at full volume. I continued to ignore him. When that didn't work, he went back to whistling to every song that was playing in the restaurant as loudly as possible. Then my burger finally arrived. After paying $15.10, being told that they were known for their burgers and that they were half a pound, I expected to taste the best, thickest, healthiest, most delicious burger ever. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. First, I tried the fries while waiting for the burger to cool off. The fries were the most bland fries I had ever eaten. They were also dry and mushy. When I picked up the burger, I noticed that the thick buns had absorbed a lot of the grease from the hamburger patty and had turned into wet sponges that were dripping with grease. The middle of the burger was mostly chopped lettuce with two very thin, very small, tomato slices. The half pound Angus beef patty looked paper thin and completely blackened and crispy. Before I decided to look past all of that to take the first bite, I noticed that another guy had walked in and placed an order to go. Instead of sitting at one of the many empty tables while he waited for his food, he decided to remain standing in front of the counter, facing me and staring at me while I ate. It was very awkward. I took the first bite of the burger and was surprised at how crunchy and crispy the meat was while still being extremely greasy. It was easily the most disgusting burger I had ever tried to eat. Since the buns were soggy sponges, I decided to remove them and just eat another bite of the patty, itself. That actually made it worse because it seemed like I was eating greasy charcoal. It was so disgusting that I decided not to finish it, even after paying the high price for it. I had also had quite enough of the two men vying for my attention by staring at me and whistling loudly while I tried to eat. I quickly got up and left. I would have had a much better tasting burger and fries with a much larger drink for a fraction of the price at the local Burger King and I would not have had to put up with the awkwardness of guys sitting and standing right next to me in an empty restaurant while whistling and staring at me. Obviously, I will not be returning. Burger King is so much better. read more
