The Yelping community has really missed the boat on this one. Only 25 reviews? How could that be? This place has been around since 1932. Now I know Yelp has not been around for quite that long, but come on people. Joe Brown's Cafe would be next to a definition of "greasy spoon" in a dictionary if a definition of greasy spoon existed. Sadly it doesn't, but I'm sure it will someday. I mean that in the best possible way. It is one of those places that time has forgotten. I'm sure nothing inside has changed in years. This is not a fancy establishment nor does it want to be one. The food is pretty basic. What your parents ate for breakfast when they were kids. What their parents ate when they were kids. After a half marathon I was looking for something simple and inexpensive to eat. Sue and I had been to Vancouver a few times and walking down Main Street and seeing Joe Brown's, I knew one day I would eat here. That day finally came last weekend. Sue suggested it and I had no problem with it. Thankfully we got a seat right at the counter upon walking in. I wouldn't have been happy with a wait and neither would Sue. The place was rocking on a late Sunday morning. It took about 10 minutes or so before anyone came over to take our order. We weren't in a rush and it was fun watching all of the action. Joe Brown's is a good place to people watch. Young and old eat here. Blue and white collar. Doesn't matter. Again, this is the place that time forgot and that is a good thing. For breakfast I had the "Special" ($6.99). Two pancakes, waffle or french toast with two eggs and two links or two bacon. I had the waffle and the links with my eggs over easy. The perfect meal after a half marathon. I sucked it down like it was going out of style. It tasted really good to me in this situation. Sue quite enjoyed her meal too. We've been to a couple of places similar to Joe Brown's since we've been together and I think we both agreed that this was the best of the lot. read more

Super awesome old school diner! Its the kind of place my family went to when I was a kid, they don't make places like this anymore! The service people were really friendly and attentive, the food was well portioned and taste good and arrived fast and hot! We come here once a year for the last day of Kumori Con and it's good enough we wait thru a half an hour queue for a table of seven. It's a small cafe, so not necessarily good for large groups, but after today I know they'll make it work best they can. If they put up with us every year, you know they're friendly, too. The service seems a little slow, but you have to understand just how busy it is here. The restaurant is full basically at all times. The food does take a while to come out, but I think it's worth it. The food is amazing. It's simple, straight forward, like traditional American food. There's no frills other than fairly large portions. It's prepared right tho. It's solid. This was a great breakfast! Very small and doesnt fit very many people so I would recommend 4 or less for this place. Saturday morning at 9:30 and or wait was about 10 minutes. Not bad. Our server was extremely polite and that was very much appreciated. The service was quick and the food came out fast. The only knock on this place was some dirty silverware that was given to us when we sat down. Cleanliness is important in a restaurant. It happens. We biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak, hashbrowns eggs and sausage, bacon, bagel , English muffin and toast. Everything was great! Excellent hashbrowns, all 4 of us enjoyed what we had. The food is absolutely delicious, I almost always go for pancakes when dining out but as hard as it is to find pancakes that aren't bland and rubbery, I was by no means disappointed with the pancakes at Joe Brown's. Decent food for the prices, minimal seasoning tho so I definitely add a bunch of salt & pepper to whatever I order. Hash browns were crispy on top but incredibly wet and mushy in the middle. One of the reasons I came here was because it was open on a Sunday morning at 7 a.m. Large portions is promised on the menu, and it sure was spot on. I ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy, which came out on its own plate. The hash browns and eggs were what I'd expect from a diner, but the bacon was really great. Joe Brown's is a grease spoon run down cafe, I love a good American style grease spoon cafe. They do the classics right: Eggs, Biscuits & Gravy, Bacon, Pancakes, Sausage, even the crepes were good. Not a fan of their hash though, their corned beef was thin and not very flavorful, very buttery/oily dish. I like the cute decor on the walls; its an old cafe with old... well everything - this is the charm of Joe Brown's I can see where people would be turned off, the place is small and there isn't a lot of room when it gets packed, it is a popular place. Additionally, they have a really small cooktop, they do things in batches. For example, the cooktop was cooking eggs for all the orders that had egg, at one time, sometimes your food takes a little while simply because they have a limited cooking space, they have to be creative. The service has always been fast and prompted, coffee continually refilled, food portions were huge, and food has always been hot. read more

My mom, sister and I went there for lunch. It's was a late lunch 2:00. My mom and I both had a bacon cheeseburger and my sister had a club Sandwich. The only thing good on our meal was the small bag of Lays potato chips. All three of us got up after just a couple bites and paid for food and left. The burger was Rock hard and as Thin paper. Was super disappointed in the waitress who wrote an order down wrong, didn't apologize, brought a blackly burned English muffin to my table and never checked on us. We sat at the bar and right away the cook offered complimentary biscuits and gravy that was a mistake order which was very nice of him. Biscuits were maybe sitting for a few minutes and were a bit soggy, gravy was good with chucks of sausage. Hubby and I both ordered the 2 egg, hash browns & toast and coffee. $16 for 2 meals and 2 coffees, good deal. Coffee was surprisingly good for diner drip. Breakfast was as expected for diner food, with exception of hash browns which were too thick and not crispy enough for my taste. When getting ready to leave, owner Lew came to greet us and chat.
