The technician was very courteous; he showed up an hour before the promised time. He called ahead to confirm it was OK. He took pictures of the clog to show us exactly what the blockage was. I have tried to fix a sophisticated American Standard low flow, electronic flush toilet for 2 months, with numerous calls to the company and replacement of various parts they sent me, to no avail. Finally, I called Joe Hillman Plumbers, and after collecting a $79 fee, they sent a plumber the next day. As I had expected, this plumber had never seen this model American Standard, and after much tinkering and trying different things, it seemed that the problem of spontaneous flushing had been resolved...for less than 30 minutes and after Alex had left. This after collecting a charge of $125 for the "work done". Called, and to their credit they sent him again the next morning, and he replaced the water intake valve. However, the problem WAS NOT RESOLVED, and now I am out $200 and with a leaky toilet still! NEVER AGAIN. Their plumbing charges are outrageous, and they don´t stand by their work. read more

Very disappointing experience . Plumber came Friday to fix a noisy toilet, said he replaced a part but really just cleaned as we learned later. Called again and had another visit to fix same problem on Monday. Problem was fixed but we were charged again for labor even though it was on SAME problem which first guy did not fix! Complained to the office Monday afternoon and was told office mgr, Roxane, will call Tuesday morning. Did not hear anything so called back Wednesday afternoon only to be told Roxane has to review charges and get back to me Friday. So 5 days to resolve an issue with incompetence! read more

On Sunday Dec 27 I called Joe Hillman Plumbers and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday Dec 29. The conversation was short. I asked for a quote to replace 2 valves under a bathroom sink with quarter turn valves. I was told that I would be charged $79 to come to the house, and then $170 per hour. He also said that replacing these valves would not take too much time, so the charge should not be too bad. On Tuesday I received a call from Willy who said he was on his way; he just had to stop and buy some 1/4 turn valves. When he arrived at my house. I said " no quarter turn valves in that big truck" Willy said he had 1 but needed more. He showed me the box with 20+ new valves (buy 20 or more the price drops to $4.50 per valve). Obviously, he replenished the supply in his truck. Willie did an excellent job; he replaced the 2 valves in a bit over 30 minutes. I am thinking another $170/2=$85 plus the $79 = $164; just about what I expected after researching the cost to replace 2 valves on the internet. I asked Willy to show me how to replace the spring and gasket on these Delta faucets; he obliged; I learned a lot, well worth another 25 minutes. Now I am expecting a charge of $170 for the hour added to the $79 to come to the house - a total of $249. Imagine my shock when I received a bill for another $250!! I called the Office manager Rob Oester. I learned that I was charged for 30 minutes time for Willy to pick up the angle valves!! According to Rob, Joe Hillman plumbers do not stock angle valves! Not only is it hard to believe that any plumber would not stock angle valves, but Willy bought 20!!! Clearly Willy stocked angle valves!! On top of that, I should have been told that I would be charged for this stop up front. When I called on Sunday, I tried to get Joe Hillman Plumbers to give me a quote on the cost; they would not. Now Rob tells me that they charge a flat rate to replace these valves, but 'they will not quote that flat rate on the phone'!! Rob said that I should have never been told what was said on Sunday; and they would not honor what their new employee told me about $170 per hour. Apparently, they want to nail you for the $79 before you find out what they would charge! A good deception considering what they do charge. There is more! Rob told me that the flat rate they charge for replacing 2 valves is $$250 PLUS the $79 to come to your house. When I said "wow, $329 is very high for replacing 2 valves, Rob got very upset saying that the cost was $250; the $79 was not for replacing the valves; it was for coming to the house!!! Nice logic. While Rob agreed to credit me $50 of the $85 I expected, I recommend that you stay away from Joe Hillman Plumbers. Far too many costs that they hide, and end prices that are extremely high. read more

They were very nice and clean but I think the pricing is just way too high. I called them for a clogged kitchen sink. They put a snake down the main sewer line in my house even though the clog was just in my kitchen sink (charged me $325). Once they left I noticed that whatever they did loosened my garbage disposal from the sink. I called them back and they charged me another $135 to tighten the loose garbage disposal. So I paid total $460 to take car of a clog in my sink??? I would not recommend this company because of the high cost. read more

I do not suggest using this plumbing company especially if it is for something as simple as a flange as was the circumstance in my case. They came up to my condo and told us how to install a new one which was extremely easy. We took out the toilet cleaned it all up, went to Ace to buy a new flange and installed it perfectly. We also put the glue around it to hold it tightly in place. The next day they took it all out when I thought they were just going to inspect it and wanted to charge us over $900 for it. We felt deceived and betrayed. They even charged me for a box of 40 latex gloves when they only used one. They also charged for the time it took to go to Lowe's to get a new flange after they destroyed the one we bought which was better. I would not recommend this company. read more

I have used Joe Hillman Plumbers about 7 times now over the last few years. they have installed new water line from meter to house, installed new water line from meter to sprinkler, put in new sinks and faucets, Put in new faucets on the outside of my home. Fixed some toilets that continued to run and refill. Everything they have done has been excellent. I send compliments to Tony and Kevin who have done the majority of this work. I've read reviews on Angie's list that some people think they are expensive; i don;t know about that. Maybe you have to pay more for quality work. I just know with them I don't have to worry (and it keeps the wife happy!). read more

I have used Joe Hillman Plumbers several times over the last few years. They have replaced a leaking kitchen faucet, a bad garbage disposal, and fixed a toilet leak that affected my neighbor. And they just now replaced my 13-year-old water heater. Each time they were prompt, efficient and clean. And they put down boxes and towels to protect my floors. There are a lot of plumbers out there, but Joe Hillman Plumbers is the best. I've been totally pleased with them. read more

In choosing a plumber, the first issue is trust. This plumber shocked me by driving in such a dangerous and aggressive manner as to put my safety and the safety of others at risk -- all to save 5 minutes in reaching his destination. (Florida Plate CUZD42). If he would take such a callous approach to the safety of others just to save 5 minutes of driving time, I can just imagine what he would do to earn an extra $20 or $40. read more

My (female) partner who has no plumbing knowledge was alone home when this company came to replace a defective main water valve - normally a couple of hundred dollars MAX. They replaced 2 valves on the same line (?? unsure why) charged $79 to come out, then added $827 to that bill without credit for the visit. When I called to complain they promised to get back to me but never did. I believe this is a clear case of taking advantage on overcharging. STAY AWAY!!! read more

Joe Hillman Plumbers charged over $900 for a simple install of a toiet flange that anyone can do on their own simply by buying a new flange from your local hardware store. It requires no permit or license to install and can be throughly explained on youtube.com. Don't be suckered into an exorbitant invoice that my condo paid for something that can be fixed so easily! read more

Beware of Willie! Exactly the thief you do not want at your place. Paid $250 deposit to fix a bathtub drain. He came today and after hammering and braking my marble he told me it was not the drain but I stilI should pay him $575 in full. Just a thief. After he told me the tub fawcet had to be changed based on a new additional compensation he went to switch off the water off the unit. He told us (building manager and myself) that we will have to turn off the water in the complete building off as my valves were stuck. As we tried to agree on the way forward, he just went away with my deposit and fixed nothing. After his departure I checked the valves which are under my AC unit and they are both okay. He just thought he would get $300 for changing two good $5 valves. Hi highly warn anybody to deal with this company who is sending very dishonest people to your place. read more

BEWARE!!! The $79 non-refundable "estimate charge" is simply a way to overcharge for their services when they show up and you then realize that you've already had a $79 charge on your credit card and you're not getting it back even if you do the work that they are overcharging you for. I hired them because they were able to come out right away to repair a 3/4" gas line running from a propane tank to the house that had been accidentally cut. When I called I specifically asked if they do gas line repairs. "Yes we do them all the time" I was told. I asked for a ballpark estimate and was told they can't do that even though I thoroughly explained to them what was done and what was needed. I was told about the $79 "non-refundable" service call charge just to get an estimate. Seemed ridiculous but I agreed. The tech did show up in the time frame I was promised. He promptly gave me a price of $550 to make the repair on top of the $79 already charged to my credit card so $629 total. I was floored. I had the same exact repair done by another reputable company for $180 total but unfortunately work in Palm Beach. When I questioned the price with someone in the office I was given a complete BS story about "we don't compare our prices with other companies, we're a legitimate company, we've been in business for over 30 years", blah, blah, blah. The tech said the price was high because he had to go to two different places to get the parts. What? I assumed that since "we do gas line repairs all the time" and that I explained what needed to be done that they would have shown up with parts and most likely even stocked parts in the truck. Nope. The office tells me that ALL gas lines are different so it's difficult to stock the parts. The tech tells me the lines are all the same, it's a standard 3/4" yellow polyethylene gas line. So the explanation that the tech gives doesn't match what the office tells you. It makes me wonder if the office even relayed the information I gave them on what the repair was to the tech so that he could have the parts with him. I agreed to do the repair since I had already paid $79 for the estimate, which does not apply towards the work (since when is that a legitimate practice, always been applied to the work if you agree to the service) and I was anxious to get the repair done. The tech and a worker then left to go get the parts. They returned approximately 2 hours later with the part. That's one part, not two as I was told. From the time they got out of the van, made the repair and got back into the van it was less than 30 minutes. So $629 for 30 minutes of work. When I called the office to question the charge I was told I would get a call back from the office manager which I did get the next day. I explained the situation and got the same BS about how long they've been in business, etc. etc. All I asked for was an explanation of why such a high charge. I had the same repair done before for $180 and called around and got several quotes of around $250 for the same job. I told her I understand charging a premium for good service but double to more than triple what others are charging is not a premium, it is a SCAM. They've got you because you already paid $79 non-refundable to get an estimate. She said the job ticket the tech turned in showed over four hours of labor plus the part which the tech said was $100 (which was high as I Googled it and widely available for way less). So I said to her that I'm obviously paying for the tech and his assistant to drive around for over two hours to get the parts? "No you're not" she said, "plus we don't charge for the assistant". Okay then. So using your math, the $79 is just for the estimate, $550 for the repair, less the $100 for the part (which I doubt it was), that's $450 for 30 minutes of work or $900 an hour for a tech. Really? How can you justify that? I don't care how long you've been in business. Since she knew I was really upset she asked what I thought would be fair? I thought about it and said $300 plus the $79 for the estimate, so $379 total. That's more than double what I paid for the same exact repair a year ago from a "legitimate" company (with higher YELP reviews by the way) but only in Palm Beach and $129 more than the average of the estimates I had gotten. Seemed fair to me. I'm a business person and wanted to be more than fair. She told me she would get back to me right away and that she was going to check the GPS on the tech to see how long he was there, etc. It's been over two weeks and haven't heard a peep from them. My credit card was charged the full amount. Look elsewhere for a plumber and look for a company that will credit the "estimate fee" towards the work if you use them. The non-refundable "estimate" charge is simply a way to overcharge you for their work. Bad business. read more
