It wasn't until COVID that I started to come to Joe on the Go Cafe because I wanted to support locally owned businesses as much as possible.. and now I kick myself for not going here sooner and more often! You can tell they use quality ingredients and very creative on their recipes. My go to sandwich is the turkey melt! It never disappoints. If they offer the pesto pasta salad as a side, GET IT! Their goddess pasta salad is amazing too, as a side. I'm looking forward to trying more items from them as I have yet to be disappointed! This cafe is by far my favorite place to go and relax in Merced. They have a great menu. Even though they don't have a labeled gluten free menu, the owner made me two of the br re a fast dishes they have gluten Free. The atmosphere is super chill from their decor to reggae music playing. Great small business cafe. They have a big variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps, cold & hot beverages, treats, etc. The entire staff are always friendly and helpful. I've tried the tuna albacore wrap, the philly cheese steak sub, their different salads, their tea and coffee. I have not yet regretted any food I have purchased here. I did not appreciate the service I got when I was there. I have no problem waiting but I waited for over 15 mins for two coffees. I politely asked how much longer my wait time looked like and the lady at the counter made my coffees then. It wasn't until I had left that I drank my coffee and it was almost pure water. The same with the other coffee I ordered. I called it in and a nice gentleman said he'd take my name and order down and happily remake it. I come here about once a month, often if I had time after an early class or meeting. Really good chicken salad. I have even taken my students from UC Merced as a celebration for the graduation (shockingly a lot of them do not even know this place exists). But after this last visit with my wife, I cannot offer my business to this institution anymore. We ordered, got our food: my wife got the Sesame Chicken Salad and I got the Chicken Enchilada. Per usual, my wife asked for extra dressing to add to her salad. When the meal arrived at the table my wife was underwhelmed. The chicken was overly dry and the ingredients listed, asides from the spring mix, were minimal. The mandarin oranges were flavorful though. Furthermore, the dressing provided was minimal. She asked for more dressing and this is where our dining experience began going south. The owner, Natalie Burelson, was waiting on us. The request for more dressing was met with an exasperated sigh-eyeroll combo. It was certainly a busy day at this business, so we passed it off as a general human issue. We continued to eat outside, but my wife was greatly disappointed by $13.99 salad being subpar. So when Natalie came by the table again to do the mid-meal check in, asking "Is everything okay?", I responded with "No." She then proceeded to say, "Good" and walk away. I verbally produced a "Excuse me?" that was ignored while she turned about face and walked away. I said a bit louder, "What was that?" to her to which she then made eye contact and began to be confrontational. She asked what the issue was and I began to explain that the salad was dry, in which she then gawked and laughed, while interrupting me saying, "How can it be dry, you dumped all that dressing on it?" In effect it did not seem she wanted to hear any criticism of the food. Her tone began to shift and was accusatory and combative, not allowing us to have any words in without having to become significantly loud or making scene. As such, I declared, "We are done here," where upon my wife and I got up leaving our meals not even half finished. Walking to our car, my wife was very upset by how we were treated. I went back to the restaurant where Natalie seem to want to have a drag out. I wanted to have a chance to explain what our concern was, but was instead told by her I was being rude and that she would refund our meal. Simply put, I was not interested in a refund I wanted an apology to my wife for how she was treated. However based on the tone offered by Natalie that did not seem a possibility. I wished her well and was on my way. Based on the reviews I'm seeing, it seems we are not the first to have issues like this with the owner. For the prices offered, there is an expectation of quality on numerous fronts with service and food. In this case both were lacking with service being exceptionally deprived to a degree that is not repairable for my wife or me. read more

Whenever I'm in Merced, Joe on the go is one of my faves. The bacon bleu cheese burger is absolutely to die for.

This is a nice place to eat. I avoid the lunch rush, it's a bit small and gets quite full quickly. I talked to Jessica one of the workers and she recommended the turkey bruschetta, she mentioned she had made the bread herself that morning. My sandwich was delicious.(good job Jessica!) I appreciate that when I ask for a water cup I'm not punished with what looks like a plastic shot glass, like other places do. I was given a real cup! Yay! I personally find the hats, bags and other apparel for sale at the back a bit odd, but that's just me. This place should definitely be considered for brunch or a late lunch. Enjoy. read more

I've been to Joe on the Go a few times and it's always been good. Today I had the breakfast burrito with sausage. The eggs were real (not gross powdered chunks), the potatoes were flavorful and soft, the sausage was tasty and there wasn't too much cheese. The burrito is also grilled on the outside and then cut in half. It was really fresh and flavorful and only $5.25 I also ordered a soy chai latte. This wasn't as good. It was too sweet and not very spicy, but in all honestly, I'll probably order it again. The atmosphere is comfortable and there is free wifi. read more

Not only is the food absolutely amazing, the people are too! I highly recommend their protein scramble, it's full of veggies and eggs with the best cooked bacon. Also, the owners are always incredibly nice! So nice that my 3 year old daughter mentioned she liked the owners necklace and she took it right off and gave it to her. After trying this place a few more times, I have decided I really prefer Tony's Courtyard Cafe for lunch. I was excited to try their monthly prix fixe dinners, but they discontinued them before I could go. In my last review I mentioned that I wasn't happy with their styrofoam to-go packaging, and that I would try eating in-house. My husband and I have met here for lunch during the work week a couple of times, and while they are very friendly, I'm not too impressed with their food or the atmosphere (although I hear they're remodeling), and the prices are high for the quality you get. My husband was also not too happy with their espresso drinks, and again, hot drinks come in styrofoam cups. read more
