I have been a regular here for about 2-3 years. I have bought T-shirts and sweatshirts, also I have purchased coffee cups. I have promoted their cafe on my social media. I have come here about 2 times a week during this time period. I am not sure why, as I am friendly and cordial, but there are staff here that have once been chummy with me and now are totally cold. This has happened with a number of them and I do not know why they would treat a faithful customer this way. I am a POC, and as most of their clientele are passing for white culture and I see them very chummy with other customers, I am not sure but that may be a factor. I am astounded at how they think they can treat a loyal customer who has contributed so much to their revenue with such coldness, not talking to me as they once did, just ridiculous. Coffee was nice and strong but the ambience and outlets lacked and friend of the barista yelled rudely "closing in 10 minutes!"- and she could've just as easily walked to the two tables and told them. I'd consider going again, but, not in a rush. Maybe just grab a cup to go ;) read more

Went in for an iced coffee and I asked for light ice because I saw the amount of ice they put in the previous guy's coffee (it was LOADED), and the guy tells me I'd be charged more because they'd have to use more coffee to fill the cup. I was craving a nitro coffee. Yelp pulled up this place when I searched for nitro. After looking on their menu and seeing they served it, I headed there. First of all, when I walked up to the counter I had to say hi to the cashier/barista first because she just looked at me. Poor form- any good business person knows to greet your customer first. I ordered a nitro coffee. It was served as half ice, half coffee with absolutely zero trace of head/foam. I asked her if this was the nitro and she said yes, that "sometimes the foam doesn't come out." Ummmm....if I wanted a iced cold brew I wouldn't have ordered a nitro. I let her know that every nitro I've had anywhere else has been served with minimal to no ice and had foam. She said no ice would be an upcharge. Huh??? Then she offered to refund my money. I told her I'd try it. Welp, huge disappointment. The avocado toast I ordered with it was really good, though. So, if you're looking for nitro coffee, this is not your place. I left disappointed and won't be back. read more

Not my kind of coffee shop. The coffee was okay. The coffee was a little acrid for my taste. I like my coffee smooth. The options are limited when it comes to coffee drinks and food. They seem to be on the purists side of coffee. The food selection was non existent when I was there and expensive. I did try a yogurt. It was very clean and organic so if that's what you're looking for that's good. They do have a lot of tea options. It's purely a style preference and this was just not doing it for me. read more

This is a great Indy coffee shop. They take coffee seriously. I think they started off as a roaster and they still sell lots of custom roasts, but I come for the cappuccino. This new south Durham location is gorgeous. Spotless and modern, with a touch of retro. I have been here at least ten times already and the baristas are competent, friendly and appreciative. I am so grateful to have a shop like this close enough to home to enjoy it. Bravo, Joe. read more

JVG gets 4 stars for an appropriately priced avocado toast. They have tweaked the recipe a little over the last year and that's a good thing. At one point it was too acidic - mostly lime. Now it's pretty good with a nice crunch from the radishes. Their coffee on the other hand is not that great. The iced coffee is too bitter with a rather harsh finish. My drink of choice is a cortado so I'm not looking for a sweet coffee beverage. I've tried their coffee iced, brewed, lattes, etc and I am not a big fan of any of them. It will do in a pinch but I'm not going out my way for JVG. 3 stars for coffee, 4 stars for avocado toast = 3.5. I guess I will round up since the folks are nice in an overly hipster kinda way. read more

So happy this location finally opened! The neighborhood actually needed another coffee shop. The baristas really know their stuff here. The coffee tastes fantastic, and the baked goods are yummy too. I love the decor (minimalist but warm), and I overheard someone say the shop has more furniture on order. I also like how there are 2 unisex bathrooms. I like their espresso drinks and love the atmosphere at Joe Van Gogh. It's quiet and pretty so it's a great place to get some work done! The cafe can sometimes be a little crowded, but a little patience will reward you with a nice little table you can call your own (for a while). read more

I was surprised at not especially liking this place, as I came in pretty positive about it. The music was being played quite loudly, which seemed strange for a coffee shop in the middle of the day and kept me from reading/talking comfortably. I met a friend here for coffee today, since the cafe is near her office.I had heard of Joe Van Gogh but had never tried their coffee until today. The sunny, warm April weather prompted me to order their iced coffee. Oh my goodness - I am kind of blown away by how delicious it was! I sort of stopped in my tracks after taking a sip - my friend was like, "are you ok?" To which I exclaimed, "Wow, this is amazing!" Bursting with rich but not bitter flavor. I LOVE that there was simple syrup at the creamer/sugar station - it blends so much more easily than granulated in iced coffee. I did not order a pastry but they looked yum. Must try a nibble of something next time. And there definitely will be a next time. :) read more

So, I used to live in Downtown Durham. I was spoiled with amazing coffee and great coffee shops within walking distance. One of which was Joe Van Gogh and it became a frequent stop on my way to work. I usually make my own coffee at home but some days I just need to grab a drip somewhere else! When I moved away from downtown I was devastated for many reasons, one of the primary reasons being ZERO access to decent coffee on my route to work. Needless to say, I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Joe Van Gogh at woodcroft. I came opening day. Big space. Open and minimalistic which I like. Plenty of work space for those that like a place to study/work. I also appreciate the bakery items as the one downtown didn't always have those available first thing in the morning. I got a lemon blueberry muffin that opening day along with a drip coffee. Ah! Blueberries have never been so perfectly placed. Every time I have been back since I have had to get a muffin with my coffee. I'm pretty sure it's becoming an issue around my mid section but I'm choosing to ignore it in favor of more blueberries. Coffee is good and I expected as much considering I frequented their downtown location for so long. This location saved my life. I was very limited on coffee options outside my own home. I can't express how great it is to have Joe Van Gogh here. This area really needed a decent coffee shop! read more

Cozy place , great coffee ! Only the tables ( regular tables ) x3 by the wall are conducive for serious STUDYING. Better get here early to get the seat. The chairs tables towards the center and by the window are cozy but distractive for studying . Lots of people LOVE THE PLACE. I love it too but not for major focusing and studying if that's what you are here for. read more

This is a review of both this location and the company itself... First, the location. We seem to go here every time we are heading to the Street of Southpoint. Staff is friendly, coffee great (we tend to order cortado's) and the food good as well. Now, for the company...thought this was going to be a rather negative writing at first, so bear with me. I've been ordering mail order coffee from Joe Van Gogh for several years after discovering them on a business trip to the the area some years ago, and while we lived in the Seattle area. After moving to Cary we've continued to do some larger mail order coffee purchases as well since the beans we wanted weren't typically available in the store. Our latest purchase didn't go as planned, but it was how the company handled it that overrides any issues. A few weeks ago I placed an order for several pounds of coffee, and for some reason their system still used our old address back in the Seattle area, even though the invoice showed both the shipping and billing addresses as being here in North Carolina. Upon discovering the coffee had been shipped to Washington State, I contacted them to let them know. They reshipped the coffee, and unfortunately the same thing happened. So I contacted them again over this past weekend...and what did they do? They hand delivered the coffee this morning! And it was the owner of the company, Robbie Roberts himself who made the delivery. It was great to meet him, and learn a bit more about the company as well while he was visiting. Bottom line, they know how important their Customers are and clearly showed it today! I love them! read more

This is my new favorite place to be. Coffee is always fresh and tasty. The store is big enough where I can find perfect seating with a flood of natural light. So excited they opened up shop here! I used to live on Weaver Dairy Rd, and JVG is what I miss the most! This location @ Woodcroft definitely has a more modern feel than the Weaver Dairy Location, which I love. They have single-seat benches for those of us who want to work (and not feel bad for taking up an entire table) as well as tables for couples/groups. Plenty of plugs all around! If you're looking for a great place to get your work done, this is your jam. And, yes, the ham & cheese biscuit is *so* tasty! read more

I like Joe van Gough coffee however I'm really disappointed with this new location. I was excited to see them open in Durham, just a mile from where I live however both my visits have been disappointing. During my first visit I just got their drip coffee. The coffee was fine but when I poured half and half, I realized it had gone bad. The thing is this was at 9 am in the morning. Go figure how long the half and half had been sitting there. They gave me new coffee and I figured they are new and still figuring things out. Next visit I got a latte and it was so cold that I could drink it like water. I didn't even bother telling them cause there was barely anyone else there so they were not rushed or anything. It's just disappointing. I guess I'll just stick to buying their beans. The shop doesn't live up to its hype. I'll continue going to Bean Traders instead. read more
