Joe V's Smart Shop is a grocery store that reminds me of a mix between Costco and Fiesta. It has a slight warehouse feel with the colorful hispanic products. The customer service was friendly. You sack your own groceries which I actually prefer because I am particular about how my groceries are sacked. The store feels clean and well-kept. This is my first time checking out a Joe V's establishment. I've been to Houston a few times but I've never heard of this grocery store until a few of my colleagues recommend me to check it out. Don't get me wrong, they do have great prices and certain areas of the store on certain food items but household goods are a bit pricy. It's usually very busy but I wasn't a fan of the parking lot just because it's a bit of a rundown place. The store has a really nasty smell approaching the main doors or even when you leave the building. The way to store it looked on the inside was pretty ugly too. Store was fairly organized and well staffed. They had a smaller selection of items that I was looking for but thankfully I found the important stuff. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with my visit here. Definitely come here if you're on a budget regardless. read more

Today like always my mom & I we go buy our stuff for the week I always go and buy guava and ALWAYS EAT ONE !!!!!! But today one of the supervisors saw me and he was mad he told me you know you can do that you have to pay for it I was like I know and I will pay for it he keep saying you need to pay for it I was like I'm not the only one who do that PLUS I always paid for what I eat ! It's don't matter if you saw me or not I always paid my stuff ! He was looking at me even he stand at the register but I have I lot to buy I felt bad cus I could buy what I aways buy cus I think he want to make sure I pay for the damn guava. If I could leave zero stars I would I went today December 22nd I was in lane seven the lady didn't help bag and proceeded to keep pushing the groceries until Alfredo fell and broke and said it was our fault . Then proceeded to rush us and started talking to my mom in Spanish which is a little racist to me being we're black , she was Hispanic and hella broken out I would worry about my acne before being a asshole if she doesn't like her job she should get a new one read more

This place is good is you have to shop on a budget . The staff was pretty cool . I went here tonight and found everything I needed for Half the price I would of paid at another super market . The only issue I had tonight was outside the store . It was so much Trash along the fence line . In the parking it was terrible. They need to clean the outside of the store up . Stay away from the packaged hamburger patties. I don't know what that is but it can't be beef. Stinks up everything when you heat it up, The texture isn't like meat. Most of their in-store and HEB brand stuff it's best to stay away from. Can't wait to go back to a meat market. Just grabbed some leftover ribs from the other day. Even though the patties were horrible quality and more than likely was a combination of offal from old dogs... the smell off the ribs like someone wiped their ass with them and passed it to let their friends do it too. I'm basically convinced the horrible smell comes from that. Even smelling the wood str8 out the bag you can tell it must be old driftwood. First time I try to do my own BBQ thing for others to get away from stress and this is what I got. I can get produce from the farmer's market like normal. Joe V's has awesome prices! They do not carry all national brands but a good selection of everyday things. The produce department is the best seller here. Great prices for your cooking needs. This place can get busy on the weekends. Also don't forget to get your shopping cart from outside in the cart return. They do not have carts inside of the store. read more

I must say, this may be my new location to go to. The one on West Belfort is close to my house, however it's always crowded. I think since it is surrounded by a few neighborhoods and apartments, that could be the reason. When I pulled into this location, the parking lot looked pretty full to me, but I decided to still go shopping. I found what I needed in a short amount of time. It didn't seem crowded at all. When i was ready to check out, the lines were not long at all like the other location. I actually checked out pretty quickly. read more

Today on 04/07 8:20 I got wonderful assistance from a young lady she did a great job helping me with the coinstar machine 5stars, but as I was paying I witnessed a man getting mistreated by an older lady cashier and she was super rude for no reason because he wanted a refund on an item with the wrong price. There was no reason for her to get upset and start being rude to him that the manager had to step in. Like if she don't want to work there she can quit that's so unprofessional. read more

I only go here for the watermelons and sugar free koolaid boxes. The watermelons are super sized and a excellent price compared to other competitor stores. The sugar free koolaid packages are cheaper than most other supermarkets. Place is clean. Prices are good. Not a big variety but its good for nick-nacks read more

The store is ok enough but the people they have selling things at the front that you have to walk pass on your way out are very suspect. Today (August 1, 2019) when I was walking out and they asked me if I wanted to purchase, I politely declined and kept walking. Then one of the gentlemen started flirting with me and became quite aggressive, shouting obscenities behind me as I left. What's worse is that I had my young daughter with me. While I like getting groceries here every once in awhile, it's awful that as a woman, I cannot shop in peace without some old man trying to shoot his shot and being very rude when he is turned down. I deal with that enough in the real world; I do not need to deal with this while buying items for my household, let alone when I have my daughter with me. read more

Joe V's is owned by an ex-employee of HEB. The people have always been friendly. This is a cross between a grocery store (with a Hispanic lean) and a SAMs. Grocery carts are stored in the lot, so grab one there. Some product is conventionally shelved/stocked, some is on pallets, often mixed on the same row. Checkout is entirely by machine, there is a cashier but they just run the product over the scanner, all cash and (debit) card is done by the customer. There are no sackers but the cashiers will often help. and they have the rotating shopping bag dispensers well stocked with bags. The selection is very mixed. They may have salsa, but they'll have one brand and size in salsa, and they are often HEB store brands. I wanted paper plates and all they had was the 25 pack of the thicker kind, not the 100 pack of thinner. They have basic cheeses, no Brie or Muenster here. They have a tiny section of alcohol but a very nice White Zinfandel that was under $5. The produce section is _great_ and very reasonably priced. The drug section is a let-down. They tend to have one size and brand of a drug, and not usually the larger quantity that is cost effective. That said I bought 4 toothbrushes for $2 that were as good as any OralB I had purchased in the past. You may not find your favorite brand, or even exactly what you want, but for what they have it is priced very competitively with surrounding grocery stores. I wouldn't be able to only shop here, but it is very close to home and for the 70% of what I need that they do carry it is certainly saving me money. The sign says they close at 10, but they lock the doors at 9:30 and the unfriendly cashiers do not bag groceries. This particular store leaves A LOT to be desired. read more
