Ok so I'm not from Chicago but I visit often. I try and go to a seafood restaurant in every state I visit. I found this place on google and decided from the pics it would be a good choice. If you want an urban vibe then this is the place for you. The music is on point and the drinks as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the seafood. I think the crab legs could have been bigger and a little more food on the bags. The fried shrimp was fantastic and worth every penny. They have both style seating and also high chair/high table seating. Overall I would visit again but now I know what to expect. read more

Not cheap tho so be prepared for the cost, but if you're looking to treat yourself I would say it's worth it. The customer service has fallen off drastically. I ordered on 3 occasions for a pick up for them good ass Turkey necks. Both times I order through GrubHub. On both occasions Turkey necks were not ready. The fist time I waited an hour. This time I was told they would be ready at 9pm. They close at 9:30pm. I'm not sure who manages the kitchen but someone needs to step up and manage the kitchen. I gave them a 9 month break and returned like I needed this place back in my life. It's as bad as going back to an ex who you hope won't let you down. They did. My 3rd order was placed between 6pm and 610. I went inside to pick up my order at 640. I was told it will be 15 minutes. What's the effing point in ordering ahead on any app if the food isn't going to be close to ready at the approximate time given????? I finally got my order at 755pm. Overall this place is not bad. For the price I paid, I feel like I should've gotten more. I was still hungry when I was done which has never happened. I ordered the king crab with corn and potatoes. The potatoes tasted like it absorbed the water it was boiled in and two pieces of tiny pieces of corn was just not enough. I do like the fact that they have king crab which many seafood joints don't have but it's just not worth the price. It wasn't as big as the ones you get at Costco or Sam's, but they have it as an option. Parking will be a big issue in the future but there is a lot of street parking near. Went in to joe willies on a Sunday on 70 something and state st and all I can say is that it was completely unprofessional. None of the workers knew what they were doing, I waited a whole hour for my food that was already made and sitting behind the counter all because the girl that was taking the order did not know what she was doing. I don't know if she was off drugs or if she was mentally challenged but it was completely unacceptable. By the time I received my order which was sitting there for 30 minutes, the wings I had ordered tasted like they were cooked in burnt oil. I was told about this place by the locals. They advised me that this was a good seafood spot, but to go to the other one. I came to this one because it was 5 minutes away from my hotel vs 30. The food is good, but not consistent. I always order the shrimp and fries. The flavor of the shrimp is soooo good, but the size werent always consistent. I will start with the good first food was delicious, from there all down hill. It took forever to get drinks, the bartender was socializing with her friends at the bar. The servers were the most unprofessional, I have ever seen. I work in the hospitality industry. Our server didn't know the menu had to go to the kitchen several times to check, after ordering she didn't bother to check if we needed anything we had to flag her down every time. Her facial expression said it all she looked like she just wanted to be somewhere else. No turkey legs, no dessert. the music was loud an inappropriate, definitely not for an older crowd or children felt, like we were in a rap club cussing and all. The Manager was dress in a stretch bikini top and stretch pants just horrible standing at the bar twerking, with the younger wait staff. At one point she must have notice us staring, she came to our table to introduce herself which made everyone uncomfortable, especially my daughter's boyfriend who she was really talking to. The male server had on shorts, white t-shirt and house shoes; a dress code should be immediately put in place smdh. We spent over $200.00 for this s show for my birthday. To top it off we left the server a $50.00 tip that was the only time she showed us real interest stating she wasn't expecting it dam. Never coming for dinner pickup only. The food arrived in a timely manner, it was hot fresh, and to me the most important part was that it was still deliciously crunchy. The gator bites were so tender, honestly softer than a chicken nugget but with solid flavor. The spices did not overwhelm the seafood, but was just perfect. Small story time For my birthday dinner I wanted to celebrate at a Black Owned Restaurant and I chose Joe Willies Seafood Bar on 74th state. ‍ I started calling the restaurant February 2nd and picked it up heavier the final week before my birthday and no answer. Sent multiple messages on fb to the account and their social media manager Tone Tone ALL unanswered! . Despite not having any communication I showed up to give support. Arrived and first thing I was asked was did I have a reservation , I had to ask the lady who takes the reservations because I was left unanswered on multiple platforms. Every way she asked I attempted to make a reservation and was not accommodated to do so. After a brief moment I notified my party would be accommdated and was seated (20 ish mins later).Now it's time to order. Liquor were in 3 categories: Tequila, Vodka, and Cognac. Vodka is a BIG NO, they were OUT of ALL their tequila options (about 6) and ONLY had Remy for the cognac. Not to mention 70% of the food menu was out of stock and it's already a short menu . Waitress was transparent and clear it was a stressful day but my party ensured I smiled thru it. I got the birthday streamers and shot at the very end. My experience was a 5/10, the 5 is solely for the service of our waitress. She tried and did the best she could I could tell AND I WENT ON NY BIRTHDAY . We noticed Joe Willie's Seafood as we were heading home having just gotten off the Sacramento exit of I-290. The change was very noticeable because that property and parking lot have been dilapidated for many, many years and it was great to see a nice new sign and freshly leveled black asphalt. We live on Humboldt Boulevard and have been driving to Hagen's on Northwest side for the past three decades and would love to have a great seafood place within 10 minutes of home. On Sunday we went by and they did not disappoint! From the street, it looks like a shrimp stand and the bars on windows are off-putting but when you walk in, it's clean and new and they have a large sparkling dining room (you cannot tell from the outside). You walk in place your order and take a number with you to your table and they bring the food. We asked a few questions about how the shrimp was prepared, whether it was battered or breaded and they actually do both and it was DELICIOUS! We also ordered the chicken wings and YUM! Both dishes came with fries and they top their fries with a special seasoning that works well whether you eat them as is, ketchup or barbecue sauce. The server was really kind and very attentive, as well as, the young lady who took our order. They have a very successful restaurant on South Halsted but if they want to attract the hipsters and millennials to the West side they might consider a few things. We did recommend that they build their street profile, maybe consider picnic tables with umbrellas in a small section of the parking lot. They should also consider removing the bars from the windows. I would love to see a larger variety of beverages like root beer, cream soda and fresh lemonade which are great with barbecue and fried shrimp. In all fairness to them, they are a couple of weeks from their grand opening and will have a working bar too. We were very pleasantly surprised and look forward to being there for the Grand Opening. read more
