I'm a huge fan of Korean food, but I'm honestly not sure I would recommend this place. The food was pretty good, but nothing felt particularly exciting - especially for the price. A lot of the menu consisted of familiar, home-style dishes that I feel like I could make at a similar quality at home. I understand that the concept is meant to be more upscale or fine dining, but that's also why I'm a harsher critic. Korean food is often so comforting, generous, and homey that turning those same dishes into a luxury experience is genuinely difficult to pull off. Here, the food didn't necessarily give me that comforting "at-home" feeling, but it also didn't feel elevated enough to justify the fine-dining prices. The portions were also quite small. We ordered hundreds of dollars' worth of food and still left hungry, which was probably the most disappointing part. I mainly came for the galbijjim, but the meat wasn't very tender and the sauce was a little too sweet for me. The Korean fried chicken was fine, but it wasn't especially crispy, so it felt kind of like a scam for the price lol. The Chive Jeon (7.5/10) had a perfectly crispy texture with a delicious dipping sauce. We joined their waitlist via OpenTable, but the host informed us that the only way we'd get a table was if there was a cancellation. So, I would recommend finding a reservation ahead of time or sitting at the bar, as we did. Our bartender not only crafted amazing drinks, but provided amazing service and menu suggestions. I've wanted to try Mister Tiger for a while, especially given the limited Korean options downtown. The interior is very lively and modern, and seems like a great place for a moody cocktail. There is a small bar and ample seating. We made a reservation which were available, but it may be difficult to walk in after seeing how busy the restaurant got through the night. The drinks were excellent, and all very refreshing. Food we found a bit more hit or miss. Our favorite was the grilled mushroom. The fried chicken was well flavored but a very small portion, and we found the pancakes to be overly greasy. Docking a star because the pricing here feels a bit out of control. Two people for app, entree and a drink each came out to $200+ which was a bit of sticker shock for the quantity of food you get. Portions are more modest. In general, good addition to the scene but I think there are better Korean options for the price if you're willing to go a bit further from downtown. read more

I saw Mister Tiger at an Asian restaurant food event and I really wanted to like this experience given the good reviews and hype. Unfortunately, my experience did not live up to the expectations. We had one of the last seatings of the night, and maybe this affected the food quality. Starting with the pros: This is a nice restaurant with a lively atmosphere, perfect for a date night or friends dinner. The menu is very streamlined, which takes the mental load off of ordering. The drinks involve interesting Asian twists on well known drinks, such as a Korean "horchata." We enjoyed both drinks that we got. Aesthetically, the food is plated well for social media. Service was as expected. We ordered the galbi jjim, bulgogi, Korean fried chicken, and japchae. This comes with a side of rice and ban chan (sides). The ban chan was good, but the fish cakes were dry and lacked flavor. We thought the meat was overall kind of dry- not egregiously so, but I expected more for the price. The fancy part is that they whittle the vegetables into pretty shapes. The japchae was good, if not a tad sweet. For almost $100/per person, I would probably just go to your local Korean restaurant or market. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and restaurant week was the perfect time to come. Upon arrival, the host was very welcoming and seated me early while I waited for my 2 friends to arrive. The restaurant felt very modern and warm at the same time. We all went with the restaurant week menu and shared our dishes family-style so we can try a variety of food. For our starters, we got the complimentary banchan, uni rice, jeon, and Korean fried chicken. The Korean fried chicken stood out, it was perfectly crispy and had a perfect balance between sweet and spicy. The jeon also tasted amazing, which also had a crisp texture. The sauce it came with added a little acidity which worked really well with the flavors of the pancake. For our main courses, we got the galbi jjim and two orders of spicy chicken. The galbi jjim (braised short ribs) literally melted in my mouth, it was quite delicious. The gochujang marinade on the spicy chicken tasted great, especially paired with the cheese and perilla. For dessert, we all got the milk ice cream bingsoo, which was thicker than what we expected, but nonetheless it was very delicious. Overall, I'm so glad that I came here. I used to live in South Korea and the food and atmosphere reminded me of the meals I used to always eat there. It definitely felt and tasted authentic. Mister Tiger has been on my list for a while and I finally got to try it. As a Korean-American, I have high expectations on Korean cuisine. Mister Tiger definitely has a modern twist to Korean food. However, the portions is a little smaller than I expected. I appreciated they gave rice on the house but the bowl of rice was less than half of the bowl (which in Korean restaurants it would be filled to the top). In my opinion, Mister Tiger is pretty decent considering the Korean food scene in Chicago is mid. Some of my favorites were the Uni rice and the kimchi jeon (which was pretty crispy to my liking but the waiter asked our table that it would be $5 extra so every person could get one). We also ordered the spicy monkfish, galbi fried rice, spicy pork with tofu, and banana chocolate pie. Everything was pretty tasty but the Uni rice was my favorite out of them all. I was also impressed with the banana chocolate pie which was my favorite dessert! Overall, I definitely recommend coming here at least once. We got the Kimchi Pancake, Korean Fried Chicken, Uni Rice, Spicy Pork, Bulgogi, and Korean Tofu Stew. Honestly, my thoughts of everything were that they were mediocre. The kimchi pancake was really soggy and chewy, the Korean fried chicken didn't have enough meat and had too much sauce, the uni rice had no flavor, and the spicy pork, bulgogi, and tofu were too salty. The worst part was the dessert. We got the Milk Ice Cream Bingsoo and Yuja Tiramisu supposedly, but what we got was certainly not bingsoo or tiramisu. It was more like a random soft serve and a mush of cream, and they were tiny. Considering the price point, I was honestly pretty disappointed; I've had much better Korean food elsewhere. Even though the food was lackluster, the other elements of our dining experience were great, which is the saving grace of this review. The restaurant has a dark, modern vibe that would be really great for a date night. The service was also solid; our servers were very nice and helpful. The ambiance is spartan and cool with nice touches of K- culture-- the mural at the bar and neon tiger are cool! The drink menu is nice and the food menu has nice choices. I know the goal was to elevate Korean food/fusion but the flavors and drinks are pretty basic for what they're charging. The space is beautiful but has a cold, silent luxury feel (which is what they're going for I'm sure). It doesn't help that it's chilly inside so bring a sweater. I work in the area and wish they offered lunch specials, but unfortunately, they're only open for dinner. I really like this hidden gem on the outskirts of west loop. It serves great Korean food in a fancy setting. I tried the Korean fried chicken, bulgogi, and tofu soup (my favorite). I was surprised by the small rice bowls but found out later from the receipt that rice is included (note this so you can get as much rice as your heart desires!! I definitely would've gotten more if I knew). I added myself to the online Yelp waitlist. Was waiting for 30 minutes and never moved from position 2. When I came in, I let them know the situation and was sat at the bar. Looks like no tables (only bar) for online waitlist and they don't seem to check it often. This would be my only complaint! This is solid Korean food, although a bit basic for the cost. Started with Korean fried chicken which was not super crispy as expected, although the sweet and spicy sauce was good. A few weeks ago I rode past Mister Tiger. I was surprised to see a new restaurant in my neighborhood. I decided to tell my husband to treat me here for my birthday so we can both try it out. I made a reservation in advance so they were able to seat us right when we came in. They have a coat rack at the entrance which I thought was convenient. I'm sure in this weather no one wants to hang a bulky winter coat on the back of their chair. Once we were seated we had waters, menus, and our server was there to greet us and inform us about the menu. We Informed him of our dietary restrictions and he kept it in mind when explaining the menu so we know what to look out for. Just as he finished up we got served with the kimchi, potato salad, pickled cucumbers and fish cake. No kimchi or fish cake for us because of the shell fish, but we enjoyed the potato salad and pickled cucumbers. I'm not much of a fan of potato salad, but I really liked it here. I liked it because it was more of a fluffy mashed potato and not that overly creamy mess people usually make lol. We ordered the Secret Stash and Yuja Next Door for our drinks. My husband and I liked how light and refreshing our drinks were. We were getting a nice buzz from our drinks and still had a lot left after some time. The food was delicious. We got the Woodae Galbi and Galbi fried rice. The Woodae Galbi came with pickled radishes, jalapeños, and 3 different sauces. It may sound crazy but when I took a bite of the Galbi, pickled radish and rice altogether it tasted like a good burger lol I know it sounds funny but it truly did to me. We gobbled up all our food up. The waiter brought a scoop of icecream to acknowledge my birthday. I thought it was cool. Banchan came out fast; we loved the fish cakes & potato salad, the napa & cucumber kimchis were definitely spicy. We were going to order the Spicy Pork when we saw it came with tofu also. But when we heard that the spicy level was equal to the kimchi, we regrouped & instead chose: Jeon (chive) - very crunchy pancakes, somewhat oily, but really worth it Uni Rice - tons of tobiko (in a good way), seasoned soft rice, crispy nori chips & pickles to stir altogether. It needed more than the one tiny piece of uni, but it was still yum Grilled Branzino (plus Ssam) - perfectly crispy & slightly charred skin, delicious with the Ssam accompaniments Galbi Jjim - brothy sauced short ribs w/carrots, potatoes, shiitakes, a shishito & a jujube, and chewy rice cakes - delicious Because we were celebrating a birthday, our server gave us a choice of champage or ice cream. Unfortunately, there were a number of challenges with our experience, both from a service and food perspective. It's a pretty large space and the room(s) were pretty much full the moment we stepped in. Service challenges: -20+ minutes to get seated with a reservation (not the hostess fault, but it was a bad way to start the night. They did bring two glasses of prosecco to apologize). When we checked in, there were 5 parties still to be seated. -overall slow contrary to these other reviews (they did apologize a lot for it) and our waitress left as my husband was mid sentence... it just felt very rushed and not attentive. Not sure if it was an off night for them? Food Highlights: -banchan and the pickled radish on the ssam platter and the fried chicken (love a picketed vegetable) -fried chicken was crispy and tasty Food Misses: -the short rib galbi felt like it wasn't marinating in the blend of veggies, potatoes, and carrots long enough. It lacked flavor that you would expect from this iconic Korean dish -chive pancakes were too oily -fried rice lacked flavor and depth. It just tasted like normal rice (which I love, but not what was advertised) -when we had leftovers, they didn't pack any of the leftover banchan even though we asked to have it, so it felt like a lot of food waste TLDR: I wouldn't come back unless it's for takeout or we come on not a weekend evening. read more

The restaurant is exquisitely beautiful restaurant! It's a great place for a date or a dinner with friends and family! The servers were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The menu is pretty limited, but the food was good. I ordered the spicy tofu soup. Parking: Street parking around (paid). Unpaid street parking a block over wasn't hard to find, but make sure to look out for permits! read more
