i asked for a quote to replace a part on my car. phone quote was better than what was around the area so i decided to come in and get the car looked at to finalize the quote. he said he will call me with a final quote. got the final quote and decided it may not be the best approach, joel being a expert with 25 years of experience didnt give me a alternative fix for the job, no biggie. the part that wasnt told to me is that he would charge me $50 to give me a final quote. if i would of got this infromation before hand i would of never came in to get a quote. i understand some shops charge diagnostics fee but that is always disclosed before hand. cool guy but didnt like he added a fee to take a look at my car after the fact. read more

I took my 03 Jetta tdi to Joel's a year and half ago and it broke the timing belt so it needed a new head and gaskets I bought a head and gaskets and had the car towed to Joel's. it was done about 2weeks later but it was not right. I live about 125 miles from his shop and it kept going into limp mode so it would only go 20-30 mph so I had it towed at my expense and he said I needed lower control arms so that was another 800 and he said I needed a turbo and that was 1800 and he said it was fixed. On my way home it went into limp mode and the front end was clunking and when I looked at it the bolt was missing from the sway bar and I bought a new one and when I went to put it in it was stripped. So all in all I spent about around 6000 dollars on it and it's still not right and when I call he says leave it for a few weeks or he'll call me back but he never does or like what he did 15 minutes ago on 7-16-25 he just hangs up. I don't have money now to fix my car so I'm SOL. I would never take anything to him. My next choice is SCC. read more

I digress, since 1994, when I got a 1966 Karmann Ghia, he has serviced it since. While I kept the KG, I no longer drive it. I dont normally add poor reviews, as I assume that all people have bad days, so I generally give the benefit of the doubt. In this instance over the course of two days, I brought my car, and was in line between two other people and proceeded to listen to the shop owner complain over having to work on these people cars, what a pain in the a** they were, literately making me cringe. I have never seen anyone in a customer oriented business appear to try so hard to let customers know he does not want to work on their car, and what an inconvenience it was that he had. I again, gave the benefit of the doubt, anyone can have a frustrating day, but when he looked over my vehicle, he was complaining, using profanity and generally making me regret bringing it in the first place. He said he would look at it the next day, which he did (I was pleasantly surprised at that portion) but in the explanation of the problem again, started complaining, using profanity, saying "I don't know how the F*** i'm going to fix it and I cant give you a price to fix it, its $100 per hour until I am done." I came and picked up my car (still torn apart) brought it to a place whom values my business, and have assurances it will be fixed in a number of days, including procuring the parts. I paid for the diagnosis and will never return. My father owned an automotive shop for 30+ years, I have never seen customers treated like this or anyone so unhappy to perform the work in an industry they chose to be a part of for the last several decades.. This shop has been pretty reliable for what we've needed, and we've now brought several vehicles to him for work. Joel is a good guy once you get to know him, and the work his guys Rick and Casey do is good too. they've worked on everything from and older gmc of ours to newer vehicles as well. the GMC in particular has been a problem since Victory Chevrolet installed a new engine in it, and it never ran or sounded right. we ran into the same runaround with McConnell chevrolet in healdsburg- neither large dealership garage seemed to be able to "fix" what ailed the truck due to it's age and lack of computer bs. that said, the truck definitely works better than it did after taking it to Joel's, and Casey fixed the rattle that we've always associated with the truck. it's an ongoing project, but it's getting there. when I can afford it , I will bring my own classic car to have Casey and rick work on it, as they've more than proved that they will take care of our vehicles. due to ease of getting to him, and the fact that they have been pretty helpful, even when I've had questions, I don't have any trepidation over bringing my cars here, or recommending Joel's to other people. definitely check these guys out. read more

DONT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! I took my car here because it would die in traffic. $200 later, I got my car back and they said it was a bad sensor. After I got it back, it died again. Took it back to them and another $200 later, said it was fixed. After I got my car back for the second time, it had 2 completely new problems! After than I was done with them. Risked driving my car 5 hours to my home mechanic just so I didn't have to go to these guys again. My home mechanic then found that the guys at Harmony PUT THE WRONG PART IN MY CAR!!!! Really? So I actually got in the industry of after market car parts and talked to a lot of the guys about where I should service my Volkswagen (new passat from the one the Joel fucked off majorly) and told them about my experience here, they laughed and said sorry about what happened to my car (All of the values were bend from the timing belt I paid him to replace with a new one snapped, because he replaced it with a used timing belt)and that I should have never gone there because of previous reviews on his work they had personally dealt with and had to fix for his shitty work. So my rating for this guy will never change! All about getting your money and not actually fixing your car. I took my Jetta in last week because it stalled on the 116. They took me in just 15 minutes before they closed and Joel told me that he wouldn't be able to work on it until the next day which was totally fine with me, i thought it was wonderful that they took me in right before they closed. I got my car back two days later and Joel explained thoroughly what the problem was and they only charged me 89 dollars! I was thrilled. Additionally, they even polished out the sunburns on my headlights for free!! Both Joel and Ron were so nice and helpful and I didn't get that stuck up vibe you get when you walk into a dealership. I love supporting privately owned businesses so I was glad I could take my car to them. I don't recommend buying a Volkswagen but if you're stuck with one like I am, definitely go to Harmony!! I have a 78 VW bus that I got for 1000 bucks because it needed work and I took it here before buying it and Joel was very upfront about the repairs it needed. I've been with them for almost 3 years and my bus is a daily driver now. Joel even used a "pocket fisherman" to pull out some rubber chunks that had fallen into my gas tank. I just read Euco I.'s Yelp review and am sure she must be mistaken about Joel, or anyone else at Harmony, calling her such an offensive name! I have dealt with Joel and Ron for over 35 years, and thru thick and thin, they have always been courteous, friendly, and professional and are the most knowledgeable mechanics I've ever come upon. If a repair ever needs adjusting (parts replaced...sometimes the manufacturer creates something crappy that doesn't hold up) they fix it ASAP and explain the issue with the part, always for no charge to me, tho' of course, this costs them time and $$. I won't go to anyone else for my repairs, and am sorry that Euco felt she she was ripped off and insulted - and I believe she probably misunderstood the situation. read more
