I went to Joe's for the first time today and I will recommend the shop to my family and friends. Joe was at the desk when I arrived and I explained what I needed (oil change, A.C. check, and a check about a sound coming from one of my belts) and left my car with him. A couple of hours later, he called to follow up about the diagnostic check: he gave me a list of things that he recommended, with their prices including parts, labor, and tax, but said that none was an emergency, that I could wait on all of them. This tells me that he's not so much interested in money as he is about the actual service and work. I ended up getting an oil change and a new serpentine belt and tensioner and the price was really fair and he applied a $50 off coupon listed on the website for first-time customers. Joe and Joseph (another man I worked with) were very friendly and professional. I have visited many mechanic shops (it's an old car) and this is my favorite in the Southern California region, I think (I've only been this one time, but I was really impressed). Oh, and they have a 2-year or 24,000-mile warranty on all of their work, which is an obvious benefit that they offer. EDIT TO REVIEW: OK, the work didn't stand up and I had to have my car towed to the nearest shop (in Santa Monica...). I didn't get very good communication from anyone at Joe's for working with the warranty, no discussion about the work. Overall, the customer service on this part was really poor. Maybe if I had been able to return to his shop, it would have been more positive? It's hard to say. read more

I've been taking my car here for years. A couple years ago Joe said I needed new tires and he sold them to me. I got a nail in one of my tires and he fixed it for free. Then I got a second nail in my tire and he repaired it again for free. (When I bought the tires and when he repaired them I told him I travel with my grand children and I work nights so I need to make sure my tires are good and well-maintained). I drove from Joe's auto to go shopping and noticed my tire pressure going low. I got out of the car and looked at my tire and it was almost flat . The substance they used for repair was popping out. I Took it to the nearest tire store and asked them to repair it because I didn't want to try to make it back to Joe's after the horrible tire repair they had done. One of the maintenance people came out and looked at my tire and said it couldn't be repaired because it was in a location on the tire that would be dangerous. They also told me my tires were old. I thought I purchased NEW tires at Joe's. Then they showed me They manufacture date on the tires. After that experience, I will not be going back to Joe's. read more

I heard a dragging sound from my car while pulling into the parking lot at work. Turns out the under carraige guard had come loose. I called Joe's on my lunch break to see if they could look at it. They told me to bring it down, but I might have to leave it and wait for a spot on a lift. When I arrived, Joe (I assume it was him from the photo on this page) took a look at it, and made room for me on a lift. He fixed it in about 10 minutes and didn't charge me a dime!! Previous mechanic I went to "Lams auto" on Long Beach blvd quoted me at 615 while Joe fixed it for 490. He also replaced my seals at no extra cost! Amazing guy! I think I did the first review for Joe's-- don't know where it went. I was towed there, so it was pure serendipity that we found him. He is honest, tells you what you you need urgently and what you can defer or don't need at all. He has often done little things for free. If I call ahead, I almost always get a same-day repair. And he's even stayed a bit late for me at times! His prices are very fair, he's honest, he's polite. In all, he gives mechanics a very good name. Highly, highly recommended. read more

I went to Joes because they were certified ay AAA. I spent 851.00 to have a problem fixed. My car still had the same problem and Joe said that it could be something else. Hmmmmm? My mom and sister also went there and when all was said and done in 30 days we were collectively out $2115.00 and still had problems that Joe was not willing to rectify. When my mom told him he was unjustly charging her and that she wanted her car fixed. He said bring it in and he could not guarantee anything. She said she was going to bring the issues to AAA's attention and he got very hostile and said "I hope you are not threatening me!" We have all filled claims with AAA. We are definitely not the first and he is being investigated. read more

good mechanics are definitely hard to find these days. thankfully i was able to find a great one. i never write reviews for yelp but because of the great service i received i felt it necessary to do so. i took my car in to get checked out because i had heard about the shop and decided to give it a try. i was greeted with amazing customer service and since i started going in the past few years i have never once been tricked by them into purchasing something my car didnt need. nor did they ever try and trick me into thinking a part was messed up when it really wasnt. There's really nothing worse than getting ready to leave for work and realizing your car won't start. With AAA on the way, I turned to my fellow yelpers for a recommendation for a mechanic. Despite the strong arm sales tactic from the towing company, I insisted it be towed to Joe's because of the reviews. I called Joe to make sure he could look at my car if it got towed there. He told me no problem and was waiting for me and the tow truck driver. He had an estimate to me by noon and the car finished by 4 (blown starter). When I went to pick the car up it had been cleaned, given the once over, and even had some small issues repaired free of charge. If I ever have another car repair - crisis or not - I will definitely return to Joe's. read more

I used Joe's Auto Center to have an inspection of a used truck I was thinking of purchasing. They did a very detailed inspection and I was able to show the old owner why his truck really wasn't in the fair that he thought (poor truck). Best $ 90.00 I ever spent. I have been going to Joe's for over three years and his service has been great. A friend recommended him to me as I was new to the Long Beach area and I have never regretted it. I have lived in different areas of LA (Pasadena, Santa Monica) and finding a good mechanic you can trust is challenging. Joe has earned my trust by just being honest and charging reasonable prices. My brakes were squealing when coming to a stop and it concerned me as it was annoying. He told me he thought he knew what the problem and worked on it was but it kept coming back. It took a few tries but was corrected. (The culprit, a rusted release pins that was not moving smoothly and catching on the brake pad.) Sometimes the problem is not that apparent and Joe was honest with me that he was not sure what it was but wanted to try to fix the problem. That honesty is why I keep coming back. I always recommend him to people needing car service in the Long Beach area and I recommend him to you. read more

If you come here and you see any of the sons run away immediately. When the father is there he gives standard prices. There is nothing to really set this place apart from other mechanic shops. The dad usually makes all the pricing decisions. I was going to give this place three stars until I had an incident. I brought my car here because it was having an electrical problem my battery was draining after 3 days. I dropped it off in the morning when they first opened to be diagnosed. Then I waited till around 4:00 and I have still not received any call from them as to the progress on my vehicle. When I called they told me yes they have found the problem they said it was my alarm. I knew for a fact it couldn't be my alarm because I used to work on electrical systems. I I express this in a calm manner to the gentleman who was on the phone ( the younger son with the thick beard) he then got very rude and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. When I got there to pick up my car the little guy try to get in my face and start a physical confrontation asking me why I was mad. I've been stepped away from him and told him to please just get my keys and stop speaking to me in a rude manner. He then stated we're not going to give you your car back until you pay the diagnosis of $55 I gave him $60 and ask for my keys back he then said you have to wait for me to get change. I told him keep the change just give me my keys so I could leave and go to a real shop to get the right diagnosis. This little guy threw the keys to me and actually kept the change. Don't worry big beard guy with the Napoleon complex. That's the last money you will ever see from me and I had come here for maybe 6 years because it was close to my house. I then drove across town went to a car stereo shop left my car there and the next day they diagnose it was my amp that was draining the car. Switched the amp out and have had no problems. A side note when I went to pick my car up it look like it was sitting in the same spot where I dropped it off in the morning like it hadn't been moved. They just did a half job of diagnosing it and when they couldn't figure out what it was they just blamed it on the car alarm. read more

Came in to have my tire looked at since it was not holding pressure. Joe found a screw, removed it, and plugged it up. No charge. Total time from arrival to exit was about 30 minutes. Super happy with the service and free cost of a tire repair. I think I'll be coming here more often for my regular maintenance. read more

Although they are slightly ore expensive for things like oil changes, they save you tons of money in the long run. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, providing professional and accurate information. They also offer a car to borrow if needed for short periods of time. They are the most trusted auto mechanics I have ever met. summary: pros (+) love this garage, love jokin' around with joe and bob, feels safe for me a queer woman of color [unlike many garages], trustworthy, reliable, friendly relaxed environment, clean, $40 AAA discount, $50 first time customer discount cons (-) $100 diagnostic fee, theyre busy sometimes bc of their great reputation if i was in a better financial position i don't think i would care abt the $100 diagnosis, but as an unemployed student it's hard to stomach. that being said, the customer service is always excellent. the first time i had to bring my 1988 toyota in, they were very concerned about how i would get home, it felt familial and not patronizing. i appreciated it very much (almost like two grandpa's worrying abt their grandkid). then when my distributor was done being replaced the next day, joe sent his brother to pick me up! it was very nice. i also love just grabbing a stool at the counter and talking to bob. joe will come around and make a joke, we'll gather under my hood and look at some stuff. they show me the parts they took out/parts they put after it's all done. v friendly genuine and honest people. they have a great waiting room as well with a tv and amazon prime movie/show hook up, drink/candy vending machines, and magazines but unfortunately no A/C. not fun on a hot socal day. there are restaurants that you can walk to wait instead (indian, mexican, & some fast food) mechanical service is great. have had no issues, no complaints. i noticed that on my last two service receipts they checked my tire pressure and inflated them correctly free of charge. they also didnt brag abt it either time. found out by scanning the receipt at home. pleasantly surprised give them a shot if a $100 diagnosis is okay with you. you won't be disappointed read more

They will not repair anything without talking to you first and you can wait like I did using their free wi-fi.
