We are a one car house hold so when received the phone call from my partner saying the car broke down and she was stranded at school. I was worried like crazy about what we were going to do. I call our insurance and ordered a tow truck. We didn't know any mechanics in town so I asked the tow truck guy. He recommended Joe because he has a night drop off and parking. The next day I received a phone call from Joe before they were even open. I explained the situation and he gave me pricing for a diagnostic test. I said ok and he said he would call me in a couple hours. When I got the call Joe went through detailed description of what the situation was. He explained he could fix the timing belt and components but if there was more damage done he will not know until after the work is done. This was a really tough decision whether to total the car out and get a new one or gamble and hope for the best. We gambled. Joe said he would call the following evening with an update. So I took my car to the winn Hyundai dealer end up leaving 5 hours later with just oil change and check engine light still on.. I googled mechanics in my area and found Joe's auto center.. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance... Joe is one the most trustworthy and honest mechanics in Long Beach. He is very upfront with any repairs that needs to be done with your car and provides a moderately decent quote to any repairs. I have a Honda Fit 2007 and he has worked on it for the past several years that I have lived in Long Beach. I know that it's a pretty new car and it has only needed oil changes and the occasional preventative repairs, but I wouldn't trust any place besides Joe to work on my car. read more

Best auto repair shop I've ever been to since Tom's Auto in Monterey; now that I'm away from home, so this shop went above and beyond my expectations. Last year my car broke down and AAA towed me here. Joe's auto called me and told me all the repairs that were needed. I was volunteering at a conference in town so I was quite busy, but they worked with my schedule. Just 2 weeks ago I took my Isuzu in again for some work. My wife was driving her Van from Orange County to the Bay Area this Saturday weekend. She noticed the car stalling, Van just stop running. Called the AAA tow truck and AAA recommended Joe's Auto Center in Long Beach. She Drop the car on Saturday afternoon and due to the labor day weekend the shop was closed till Tuesday, although the shop was closed they had a box to leave a note and the car keys. I called Joe first thing Tuesday, and our Van was already in the shop being diagnosed. And hour later Joe called me and gave me diagnosis. It was a broken fuel pump. The repair bill was very reasonable and the warranty was excellent. 24,000 miles or 24 months WOW! some shop only warranty their work for 90 days. My wife was so happy to get her Van back. I've been going to Joe's now for a few years at least. I'm starting to sound like a broken record with this place but I couldn't be happier. On my most recent visit, after at least 10 visits, some for big repairs and others small, I had a bit of a problem with one repair. First off, I had a nasty radiator leak. Believe it or not they were able to fix it in about 5 hours on a Saturday without any notice. However, the following day I did find one small problem, but it wasn't a huge deal. I called Joe and he said bring it in and he'd take care of it. I did, and not only did he make it right, he made it a lot better than right. He upgraded the damaged part, and replaced another part that may or may not have been their error. The thing is, mistakes happen, no big deal. It's how it's dealt with that matters and Joe and his team handled it like true professionals. As I've said time and time again, Joe's Auto is ran as good as a small business can be. Came here because I work across the street. My car was making this scraping sound and on the first inspection the owner I believe said it was the dust shield! Had his employee bent it back and I took it on a test drive and it was gone !! I offered to pay and he wouldn't accept anything but did say you can tip the man who helped me and so I did . As I was driving home from work someone yelled at me to tell me that both of my brake lights were out. This concerned me so I looked for a place in Long Beach (I just moved here recently) and found Joe's Auto Center. I drove there in the late afternoon and was helped quickly. It was a $5 fee, but he let it go (after I tried to pay with a $20 and he didn't have change). I even offered to pay with credit card but he just told me it was complimentary. He's very friendly, gives you an itemized bill and has a great sense of humor. Somehow he manages to have an immaculately clean repair shop..that's mind boggling to me but I dare not complain or question his methods. We were going on vacation and broke down going over the grapevine. we called AAA to get a referal to a shop close to Long Beach since we were taking a cruise from there. We were very fortunate to be recommended to this shop. We towed our car there and the owner (Joe) was very nice and even drove us to our hotel and picked us up when we got back to town to take us to pick up or car. What could have been a very stressful vacation ended up great. After talking to Joe, I felt that we would be taken care of and I didn't stress about the repair at all. We are from the central San Joaquin valley and wish we had this kind of service locally. I came by on a busy Saturday with a leak in my fuel line. The service person (Jose?) was as nice as could be, but also honest with me. They were very busy, it was late in the morning, and there was a good chance they wouldn't get to it that day. Understood and expected, actually. They advised me how dangerous it was to operate the vehicle with the fuel leaking like that and offered me a ride home, which I took them up on. Had a great chat with the owner on the way about his business philosophy and he seemed genuinely caring and interested. The shop called me back later and let me know they had found a less expensive way of fixing the problem with a patch kit instead of replacing the entire line assembly, and they were hoping to get the part and get it installed that day. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but they got it repaired first thing Monday. When they called to let me know, they told me know about other things that the car required. Most of them I knew about and had been putting off. There was no "up-sell", just an honest appraisal of what the car needed. They gave me a reasonable quote for some of the work and I had them go ahead. Since they're walking distance from the Blue Line, I picked it up after work, and the car has been running great ever since. They even stayed late so that I could pick up the car after work. Great service, great integrity, amazing people. What more could you ask for in an auto center? I'll definitely be back. read more

Another great service job at Joe's. Not only did he find the pesky small water leak we had, but he did several other things without charge. His rates are very reasonably and more importantly, I don't ever feel like I've been overcharged here. On September 13, 2010 I had my 1989 Ford Mustang towed to this shop to get it running and back on the street again after being stored in a garage for the past 9 yrs. I was anxious about choosing a AAA pre-approved shop and chose Joe's out of a list of 12, and I must say after the great experience I had with them I must have been lucky to have chosen Joe's Auto Center, Jose is a mechanic there and was very helpful, professional, and most of all HONEST in every aspect of the repairing of my car. I bought this car in Oct 1988 and it is my pride and joy plus like a lot of us, I don't have a lot of money, but was in dire need of a car. I was so happy they got my Mustang up and running like a dream. I will go to Joe's if I ever need to again and don't care how far away they are from me. I will drive the distance. This is the most honest and reasonably priced auto repair shop I have ever been to. Joe Sr & Jr and like family. They take care of my car as if it were there own. I had a very loud noise inside the engine which was dominant on the right side. Every time I drove you, I heard what sounded like something rubbing on the tire, especially when i turned right. Joe couldn't find the issue the first time I brought it in (repaired other issues with my car) but told me to drop if off anytime so he could drive it and focus on what that problem was. When I did have the time to bring it back, they found and repaired the problem. Fearing the cost would be near $1000, to my surprise, it was less then $200. Every time he replaced a damaged part, he showed me that damaged part which validated the service. Excellent service and pricing. This is my new repair shop as long as I live in this area. BTW, my car is 2008 C70 Volvo. I am no mechanic, but I would think any foreign car may be more challenging to work on. read more
