I have to say that our visit last year was much more pleasant than my most recent visit. Our server was trying really hard and did just fine. Management seemed to be less than desirable. While waiting for our order, the manager, later told by the server he was the GM, was very inappropriate with another server making comments that could be heard by surrounding tables. In a separate conversation he was scolding another server in front of guests. That should never happen in front of guests or even in private in that manner we witnessed. Our server said, "that's just the way he is!" WOW! On a lighter note, the food was ok with minimal waiting. Our party of 25 (including alot of loud, hungry cheerleaders) had the absolute best experience thanks to CONRAD on Saturday night (12/6/25). Originally the reservation was 19 but it grew by 6 at the last minute. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us as quickly and as politely as possible. We were seated in CONRAD'S section. He is completely on top of his game from start to finish. He is attentive, knowledgeable, fun, and most importantly - PATIENT with young kids. Even with a very large and CHAOTIC group, he never missed a beat. We had at least 4 drink spills and he never even looked frustrated or rolled an eye. He just rolled with the craziness in the most fun way. Every order was perfect, and he kept us smiling and laughing the entire time. His positive energy was contagious, and his service is TOP TIER. Wanted to check out this place while in TN for a weekend getaway. When we got there the parking lot was basically empty so that was the first red flag. When we got inside and were told it was a wait that did not match up the parking lot...red flag #2. I will say our waitress was super nice and helpful! She was the reason for 2 of the stars honestly. The other star was for the crab and shrimp dip. The steam pots and crab boils had ZERO flavor!! The butter was the most flavorful thing we had! It was not worth the $134 I paid. It not very often I give one star but this was just not a good experience. From the minute we walked in the rude guy at the front made me mad, I would have just left but my family members we were meeting here picked this place. They are not yelpers so telling them about the reviews would not have made them change their mind. In California many years ago Joe's Crab Shack was a pretty good place to get a good meal. So we walk in and Mr. personality Is rude from the beginning. Doesn't know how to speak to customers at all. We first hear him talking to others by saying, "it's an hour and forty five minute wait". No hello, nothing just nasty tone. Oh and by the way the place is not busy. So I am assuming they didn't have enough staff. We give him the name of reservation and he asked if we were all there? I said the last two are coming in. He informed us he can't seat us till they were in the restaurant. Whatever, there is a nice way to say something. I also heard others talking about this guy. So it's just not me he is rubbing the wrong way. So now we get seated and waitress was quick to come over and get drink order. Then we ask our questions. We order my son king crab. Look at the picture, do those look like king crabs worth $27. My other family member ordered the same and sent them back. He was not going to pay almost $30 for them. So he starts to eat his fish and chips, they were so fishy he couldn't eat them. Something wasn't right. My coconut shrimp was over cooked and I was joking my hush puppies were like marbles. I gave my dinner to my son. I didn't know because I was busy talking that the waitress although nice never refilled drinks but I still tipped 20%. My family member left the food and didn't even say anything. You would think that would be noticed a full plate sitting there with a napkin on it. Went to Joe's Crab Shack for a birthday celebration, last minute! Best decision! The food was amazing! We had the appetizer platter and a little bit of just about everything there. Crab legs fish shrimp mussels! Everything was cooked to perfection! Zack was an amazing server. He came by often to make sure everything was ok. We ate here on New Years Eve 2024, it was awful. My Husband and daughter shared the crab and boiled shrimp dinner. The other 2 of us order Caesar salad with blackened shrimp. The salads were okay although shrimp was not blackened and were cold (5 shrimp on each salad). We were not given crab claw crackers for the crab. We were told that they were in the washer. After 10 minutes we asked waitress and we're told that the restaurant did not have any, the waitress told us they were "stolen" and she could give us something to smash them with. 20 minutes after getting our meal the 4 of us were still cracking crab. Upper management without introduction came over with gloves saying that she could help crack the crab and that the last case of crab cracking pliers were opened days ago and they did not have any! The meat was stuck to the side of the claws and we had to dig for all of the meat that was eaten. Do not eat here. How does this happen??? No discount, nothing. A few weeks ago, we came into town. It was late probably about 7:30/8pm and my husband wanted Joe's Crab Shack. We walked in and it was super busy but who I assume was the Manager was helping sit people. His name was Jay. He was so nice. He made it aware to the people in front of us that they weren't prepared for the influx of people but if they'd wait he'd make it right. My 3 yr old son loved the playground outside and when we came in, he was upset. Jay seen the situation and tried to soothe him by telling him that if he colored a pretty picture that he'd hang it up. Fast forward to our waitress, Megan, who killed it. You could tell she was a little overwhelmed but she was doing it all with grace! Jay was helping sit people, bring out food, encouraging staff, and talking with customers. My son couldn't wait to show him his picture he colored. As we were leaving, I noticed my son's picture on the wall. I didn't have a chance to thank Jay for everything because he was busy helping someone else but it was so refreshing to see someone helping build others up and being a hands on deck kind of person. I was super excited to see a Joe's since they were all shuttered in our area. This particular location is very nice and clean and in a great area. We had to pack our patience (we had to wait an hour and a half) but they used a texting and waiting system which allowed us to leave and keep track of our space in line which was good. The front staff were very nice and our server was great. Now here's where we got a little disappointed....the food. For $50 you would expect to get some decent sized crab pots. We were given very small crabs, 2 very small ends of corn cobs and 3 pcs of shrimp. It was NOT at all worth the price. My kids pot looked better and worth the price than the adults. We just held our heads down and ate our meager plates due to being hungry but admittedly we did leave and go eat elsewhere as we were still hungry. She had a fun birthday race for my granddaughter who is 11 against her little brother who is 9-1/2. They had a ball. Our drinks were filled when needed and she made a fresh pot of coffee for us after a long day of birthday celebration at MagiQuest with a lot of kids. However, my food was absolutely terrible. Horrible service, great food. We were on our way out of town and stopped there for lunch. We were initially sat in a booth meant for 4 people, there were 7 of us. We asked to be moved and ended up standing in the bar area for about 5 minutes while they found us a table, I should mention they just opened and we were the second party to be sat. I have eaten at every Joe's Crab Shack I can find when traveling. It has always been amazing. NOT in here.....My first clue should have been the 30 min wait with about 10 tables open. Once we were seated we ordered King Crab Bucket......NO KING Crab Legs. So I then went with Queen. One of our friends tried to order the blacken fish taco.....NO they were out of that as well....We came in at 6:30pm our food was not served until 8:25pm. All of the food was over cooked including my crab legs and the Admiral Feast ordered by another friend. We were a party of 6.....Best I could say was our waitress was wonderful and I was told the salad was good. I spent $221 bucks with the tip.
