If this establishment is supposed to be an homage to Pittsburgh, they have fallen very short. Don't come in hungry, the food is nasty - nothing close to what Pittsburgh food tastes like. Pittsburgh would be embarrassed to have their name associated with this place. Pretzels were microwaved, super rubbery and just look at the cheese. Nachos were goopy - just gross! Total waste of money. Also, they don't put prices on their menu which is just wierd.

menu front .. gotta love any reference to Monkey Junction

Here is the story... we spend a lot of time in Carolina Beach as it's our second home. And have passed by the non-descriptive strip mall many times that is home to Joe's. Fast forward to Man v Food visiting for the pierogi challenge and we had to find out more. First, what the heck is a pierogi and second where is Joe's? Joe's is in that strip mall anchored by a Food Lion between Wilmington and the bridge to CB (Carolina Beach). Second, a pierogi is a carb loaded comfort food with Central/Eastern European roots. And in the US has strong ties to Pittsburgh and other immigrant areas. When combined with other savory items like onions or peppers can make a filling meal but many times is considered a side with a protein entree. And last while possible to finish, I would not recommend trying the Man v Food Challenge of 2.5 pounds of bread and potatoes.

3.5 stars I liked Joe's! It's in the area that used to occupy the Boars'Head. The inside was well lit with a definite sports bar feel. You could tell the owner was a steeler fan but all different sports teams were represented. They had the Itunes jukebox which we like. They seemed to be plenty of seating, and we choose the bar as we usually do! They appeared to have several drink specials each night beer and liquor. I went with the IPA on special. Ok selection of draft beers- not a lot of craft stuff, which is our thing. On the suggestion of one of the locals I went with the pierogi appetizer and damn was that good! I did half pizza stuffed and half Reuben . I heard the cheeseburger ones were even better but they were 86ed. Hubby had the pretzels bites and they were very good- warm and buttery with a beer cheese dipping sauce- sauce was not quite what we were used to but it was ok! We were so full we ordered the Onion ring with fries burger to go to be taken home and split later, but alas , I feel asleep. Hubby said it was good though.....next time!! We were given a punch card with some punches on it to use on our next visit and we will got back! Everyone was very welcoming and friendly with out being obnoxious and overbearing.

My mom and I stopped here for a late lunch around 3 pm. We sat down at one of the only clean tables. We waited for over 5 minutes. I went up and stood at the bar to get someone's attention. The lady apologized and said she didn't see us. She brought the menus over and while that was happening a very buzzed man yelled to turn the music up. They turns the music up so loud it was insane. The car crowd here (no game on) was a little rowdy for this time of the day. I felt like it was a Friday night. A family came in with a child and she was holding her ears because of the music. I love the fact that this is a Steelers place and being fro Pittsburgh myself they know great food. Speaking of great food- the food was excellent! I had a chef salad and it was huge! The pierogis were some of the best I have had outside of Pittsburgh. Definitely the best in town! The chili was good with a kick of spice. I really loved the food and would have given this place a much better rating of it was an enjoyable eating experience. Also, when we left there were 4 people standing right at the front door smoking. It was so gross. I recommend take out if you just want the great good.

    Pierogies

I have not written a bad review since Covid started because restaurants have taken enough. However I ordered a salad and pierogies to go and was really, really underwhelmed for the cost. The large house salad had wilted/old lettuce for $7.25 and 4 pierogies were $10. The pierogies were highway robbery. 6 for $10 I could see because that's still $1.66 per pierogi and enough to cover overhead while making a profit. Just really blegh experience with this place.

They have a variety of seating options, including some group-friend booths. On my last visit, I sat at the bar and ordered a flight of beer. Tony the bartender was very patient with my request for a flight of local beer with no IPAs or hoppy beers. He picked out: 2: Wrightsville Beach Orange Crush, 3. Waterline Kolsh, 4. Teaches Peaches, 1. Watermelon Dragon Fruit Burst. I was familiar with the first three and loved them. I jokingly refer to Wrightsville Beach Orange Crush as creamsicle beer. It isn't too sweet, but the Orange flavor is quite strong. The Waterline Kolsh is light and very easy to drink. The Teaches Peaches is one of my favorites due to its light fruity flavor. The Watermelon Dragon Fruit Burst was a wildcard in Tony's lineup. This sour was a refreshing way to mix up my beer tasting. My friend also got a flight and didn't like one of the beers he chose. Tony swapped it out for a different beer as soon as I told him and the new one was well-received. My favorite part of this visit was that Tony decided to bring me a sample of the 8. Firestone Walker Mind Haze, because it was a non-hoppy IPA and he thought I might like it. It wasn't my fave, but I really appreciated the opportunity to try something new. I snacked on free popcorn all during my visit. The popcorn machine is in the back. Also in the back are single-stall restrooms. Tavern Law has an A+ in my book because they have great local beer on tap and they are gay friendly.

It lent to a cozy vibe, and our terrorizer kids even chilled out a little. Highly recommend the flight of mimosa bombs (they were delightfully strong and equal to about 1 drink in volume!), and the all-you can eat brunch--but only if you want Diane to give you a magical experience with deliciousness coming out your ears. Bacon is crisp, FRIED CHICKEN PUTS CHICK FIL-A to damn shame, eggs were made with lots of yummy butter, the grill lends a nice char and toast to the sourdoughs and avocado toasts, the fruit in the parfaits were very freshly cut and prepared--the entire experience was handmade as we ordered, and any wait was WELL worth it once we got to chowing down! Diane was welcoming, extremely adaptable to our situation, and frankly cared about our experience. She might be a little overworked but; The rest of the town is full of the rudest service crews... Diane made me feel special. Love that woman!!!! Protect her at all costs! Lmaoooo
