Be advised - this Joe's Pizza at 211 Eighth Ave. isn't associated with the famous, iconic Joe's Pizza at its original location in the West Village on Carmine that also has locations elsewhere around the city! The only thing in common with the actually famous Joe's Pizza is both are named after a guy named Joe and both serve New York style pizza. It's not a bad slice at this not so famous Joe's Pizza, but also not a great slice. That being said, it's better than one of those $1 (now $1.50) slice places. There are nearby other, better pizzerias for a comparable slice for a comparable price. But if you're looking for convenience, you could do worse than this Joe's Pizza, so it's your call! read more

There are fewer lines here for the same pizza, but it's a little bit pricier. This one was like six dollars, but since there are fewer people here, I can understand why it's a bit more. It's actually convenient to the station if you're in Chelsea; I think it's pretty close. All the other locations are also pretty close, but to be honest, I kind of like this spot. New York is full of pizza places, each claiming to be the best. While in Times Square, I asked around for recommendations and multiple people said Joe's Pizza. When I arrived, the line was massive, at least 40 people deep. I figured it had to be good if so many people are in line. Despite the crowd, the staff worked quickly, and the line moved fast. You better know what you want by the time you have to order. Inside, the walls were covered with photos of celebrities who had eaten there. The pizza shop has even appeared in movies. There aren't any tables, but they do have standing bars along the walls. You can order by the slice or get a whole pizza. The pizza was good and it hit all the classic New York style pizza goodnes. It's definitely a good slice and it almost burnt my lip from how hot it was. While the place is crowded and has become more of a tourist spot, there's no denying that they serve a great slice of pizza. read more

Tried this spot recently and it was a solid experience overall. We had two non-veg slices and one veg....both non-veg options were excellent! Great flavor, well-balanced toppings, and the crust was just right. The veg slice was decent, though it didn't quite hit the same mark as the others. Took me 5 minutes to get the pizza slices. Ambiance is fine with few indoor seating available. This isn't the famous touristy Joe's Pizza, but it's still a good local joint with fair prices and quality slices. This is not the joes pizza that is known as a tourist attraction. This is just a local pizzeria with Joe in its name. The pizza here is great. Sauce is flavorful. Meats are good. Crust is perfect. I'd recommend this place for sure. They also have an amazing too good to go deal if you are a local and want to get 4 specialty slices for 5 bucks. Every slice I got tasted great. I would give this place a 3.5 if I could. If I didn't get a good deal I probably wouldn't have come here. I got a slice of pepperoni, Buffalo chicken, and bacon and chicken. The pizzas were actually really good. I was genuinely surprised. The pepperoni was almost perfect, just wish it were thinner. The other two aren't pizzas I normally enjoy but they surprised me. The toppings were plentiful and it filled me up. Unfortunately it wasn't fresh but I fully expected that going in. Actually, that's not why I rated three stars. My single complaint is the price. If you're looking for THE *Joe's Pizza*, you're looking at the WRONG spot But eh pizza is pizza so why say no to more pizza anyways. TLDR- Service is funny and kind, pizza is nothing too special. I did think it was a little fishy walking in because it was so empty and quiet in a Joe's pizza, and that they offered other non-pizza items. I usually go to the Greenwich village location, but my friend and i wanted pizza and were in the area, so we came here. There staff was really silly and nice with us. Pizza prices weren't labeled on the menu though, but the average pizza was around $3.95. Pizza itself was just meh, as in nothing special. I wasn't a fan of the crust. The pizza itself was fairly flavorful, but also felt bland at times. Oh and the pizza came with free garlic bread! I asked the staff to choose a pizza for me (they chose the mixed veggies/meat one) and also chose the tomato + feta pizza. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken and the margherita pizza. The pizza itself was actually still good to me, but the mixed pizza was a bit much for me and was a bit distracting with so many different flavors and items on one slice. Mainly disappointed in the catfishing name, but the pizza was in fact pizza and at the end of the day bread, sauce, and cheese on a slice still makes a day whole. read more

It was so much fun to find great NY-style pizza so close to our hotel! 30 minutes after we got in we were elbows deep in two slices of white pizza--one with spinach and one without! Pretty great thin crust and super well toasted before handing it out. Bread magic! We noticed there were also sandwiches and came back the next night for the eggplant caprese, which the employees had to verify was on the menu, I guess no one ever orders it? Anyway, I was puzzled that it took about 15 minutes, they handed it to me fully wrapped in foil in a paper bag on a plate, and I took it back to our hotel. It was piping hot! Look y'all, I'm from California and Italian food isn't my go-to type of food but Joe's pizza sold me into loving pizza. The customer service was great! They were efficient in warming the pizza and having it ready for my friend and I. The inside reminds me of a rich history of multiple people who have gone through and sat in those seats for years. Came here on the rec of a New Yorker I spoke to on the train in, when I asked her for a good cheap pizza place. I could tell she was more of a gourmet type who'd probably never date any guy who'd publicly admit to going to a place like this, when she said "well it's one of the NYC chains" rather disdainfully. LOL I started reading up on cheap pizza joints in NYC and when I came in to this place, confused it with "Two Brothers Pizza" which is known for their dollar slices. I saw $1, $1.50 and $2 on the menu board and assumed ti was that place. So a bit of sticker shock when the bill for a slice of pepperoni and a slice of cheese came out to be $6.50 ... but I forked it over. However, I have to say that I was not thrilled with the final product: the sauce and cheese were bland and tasteless like Whole Foods' used to be before they started providing a wonderful selection of self-serve condiments: pepper, red chili flakes, garlic powder, parmesan, and best of all: oregano and basil! If only ALL pizza places were so kind. The only condiment on offer at Joe's was red chili flakes, and even those I could barely taste, perhaps they had been sitting out for weeks or something. The crust was pretty good, it had the thin-cracker crunchy bottom layer effect of NYC style pizza, but none of the nice chewiness that I was looking for and which is actually more commonly found in other parts of the northeastern US. But like the sauce, the crust was also hopelessly bland...despite how much I hate throwing away food, I could not bring myself to finish the rinds because it was literally just plain baked dough, zero oil or salt to give it any flavoring at all. So bad that I would have been grateful for a bit of Papa John's garlic pseudo-butter ("pseudo" because there's zero butter in it, just cheap palm & soybean oil) which I normally don't touch! Bottom line, I'm sticking with Whole Foods' pizza for the time being. $7 gets you two slices that are much more filling, made with better ingredients, and totally customizable to your taste instead of conforming to the standard BLANDNESS that plagues this place. read more

But what's interesting to me is how similar the pizzas are here to some spots in the Bronx. Places that don't get that much attention at all but serve up slices just as good.
