Joe's Sushi. It doesn't sound very Japanese and the name kept us away for quite some time. Why would sushi be named Joe? However, it stood the test of time. Joe's sushi survived COVID. After eleven years of living in the IE, it was finally time to try it. Our family entered the restaurant not knowing what to expect. Inside the restaurant was a nice bar area with only two sushi chefs working. We were quickly seated and offered menus and drinks. The waiter explained that the AYCE option had no time limit with only three rounds. If there was anything not listed on the AYCE that we wanted to try, we could write it in the comments section. He then asked if we have ever been to Joe's. We told him it was our first time. He came back a little while later with an appetizer platter (gyoza, crab Rangoon) and another platter of shrimp tempura on the house. Despite two chefs manning the bar, orders came flying out at rapid speed. Multiple plates of sushi made our way to the table that they started filling an adjoining table with our dishes. We ordered a bunch of Cajun tuna nigiri which was generously portioned but could have used more Cajun seasoning. The yellowtail nigiri was light and fatty. My wife loved the Tokyo Night roll, a spicy tuna topped with tuna and cilantro which made an impact with the cilantro offering a contrasting, refreshing bite. Tuna Tornado was another similar roll with spicy ahi and seared tins on top. Unfortunately, we ordered so much that we only lasted one round My wife bravely asked, "who is Joe?" To that, the waitress responded that the original owner's name was Joe and it started off as a night club. Five owners later, her family took over and kept the name as Joe's was a staple in Riverside. Despite its very Americanized name, Joe's sushi offers quality, authentic sushi at a decent price point. This is truly one of my husband's and my favorite sushi spots. The sushi is always incredibly fresh, and everyone I've brought here ends up loving it just as much as we do. I often order pickup, and it's usually ready in about 20-25 minutes. I always ask for extra, extra ginger, and they never disappoint, they really give me plenty, which I appreciate so much! The staff is always warm and welcoming. I've also dined in, and I love that the sushi chefs are right in the center of the restaurant, it adds such a fun and lively touch. Our go-to rolls are the Tuna Boy (the mando sauce is amazing!) and the Fiesta. read more

Don't let the outside turn you away. Walked inside and it was very clean and inviting. Service was great. They brought us out a welcoming appetizer and said it was to welcome us for our first time there. Everything on that was delicious. We had the AYCE and it did not disappoint. Walking into Joe's Sushi today, we had a party of five, but only two of us arrived early. Even though our full party wasn't there yet, we were immediately greeted and seated within seconds. The woman who seated us was incredibly kind. She brought waters right away and even offered us samples of every appetizer since we were doing AYCE, which was such a nice touch. The restaurant itself was very clean and comfortable, and it didn't feel overcrowded like many sushi spots can. It had a very open and welcoming vibe. After placing our first round, the food came out at a great pace. The sashimi tasted extremely fresh, everything was beautifully plated, and our waters were refilled promptly without us ever having to ask. I honestly wish I had taken pictures of everything we ordered because there wasn't a single piece of sushi that wasn't absolutely delicious. When we paid, we were told the restaurant had just come under new ownership as of yesterday. Since it was our first visit, we can't compare it to before; but based on this experience, Joe's Sushi is definitely going to become our new favorite sushi spot for my friends and I. read more

The sushi melted in my mouth, I have never had sushi so fresh and delicately prepared. I tried omakase and loved all the sushi I got. The vibe was super chill and you can see Joe making your sushi in the middle of the restaurant. Servers were very nice. Was very pricey (~$90 for my omakase meal), worth it for a celebration dinner. Never have I been treated like I am no one and nothing/ but people who had light skin were taken care of and given service. When we finally received some service it was bad! We all got all you can eat but they restricted us on what we could order and how many even though we paid for all you can eat. However, the wow factor of this restaurant comes from more than just the food. The staff is beyond friendly and very attentive. Always there when you need them. The fish quality here is always super good and every time I come here we get seated instantly and the food comes out super fast. My favorite things to get from here are: ~ sexy salmon roll ~ joes special roll ~ pepper salmon nigiri ~ albacore nigiri ~ salmon nigiri Every time that I've been to joes it has been consistently good. I also love the workers as well! Joe's sushi is also the cheapest place you can go for high quality sushi. They don't do AYCE anymore because of covid,but the nigiri and rolls are discounted. Have not been here in 15 years. Went today, and was not impressed. spicy tuna in first roll tasted fishy even through the copious siracha. Didn't even get an apology after returning it. Advice to Chef's taste food before serving, I do even at home. The menu is quite limited and the roles have massive amounts of kamikama and rice. The limit of two orders of yellowtail and unagi is a bummer, similar to ooshi. skip joes and go to asahi on van buren, but, far better yet the other asahi on mckinley which is currently best AYCE sushi in Riverside IMHO.
