Getting ready for and Shabu Shabu.
    Brenda F.

Flavor, service, Ambiance was amazing. John was our server. He was attentive and kind. He assisted us on our first time visit. The broth flavor was amazing. I suggest asking for the half miso and half spicy (not spicy at all) but so flaverful. We will be back!

Had a craving for shabu shabu and found this place on Yelp. It does have another name on the building, Taiyo's, so we were confused at first. Really nice inside and lots of options at their bar, like fried rice, shrimp tempura and eggrolls, in addition to the vegetables. Servers were very friendly and attentive.

Been here twice and won't be returning. All you can eat sushi is mediocre at best. Come here if you strictly like to eat sushi rolls. Why do they keep searing the sushi? We would get the same dish back to back and one would be seared and one would be raw. I didn't come here to eat BBQ. I want the sushi raw, or aleast keep it consistent. The shabu dipping sauces are all way too sweet. The meats are okay and the side dishes/ salad bar are all overcooked or lack flavor. The shabu soup base was flavorless + the dipping sauces are terrible. The all you can eat "fill out yourself" paper menu for sushi clearly says mussells but it doesnt say "limited 1 person". They told us it's only 1 per person when we ordered a third for a table of 2 people. There are a lot of items that are not on the AYCE menu like takoyaki so you spend more money on top of the 30$. We waited for 10 min and had to ask and then they told us the limited item rule even though it doesn't say on the paper menu. The rooms inside looks dirty. There was 2 to 3 nats flying around the food and tables the entire time we were eating. The walls and decor gave a dingy feeling where everything seemed damp and sticky. You can tell a lot about a restaurant when there is mandatory gratuity

I forgot what the name of our server was but he was the only one wearing a white shirt while everyone else wore black. He was so attentive and so nice. He sat us down, got out menus and we got the hot pot option. Within minutes our server had everything set and ready to go. This place has a buffet bar for the hot pot items like lots of veggies, a sauce bar, 3 noodle options & other proteins like calm, imitation crab, shrimp & etc. They also had a few hot bar items like rice, fried rice, noodles, fried shrimp & etc The meat options were ribeye, brisket, beef belly & pork belly. We tried everything but the pork and I got the miso broth while my husband got the regular broth. Everything was really good. It's an extra $10 to add AYCE sushi - which we do want to try next time Tons of parking in this plaza!

My husband and I came for hot pot and decided to get the sushi and hot pot option. We were expecting the hot pot to be the star of the show and the sushi to be mid at best, but wow were we wrong. Our usual local sushi spot changed its menu and its quality went way down so we were on the hunt for a new spot and let me tell you, THIS IS IT. WOW. Our second time back and we ditched the hot pot and opted to just get sushi. The fish is incredible. High quality, cut well, prepared well and the service is dynamite. I would not have expected the sushi to be so good here. Come try it out- you won't be disappointed!

Honestly so good, always a go to especially if we're having separate cravings. I'll usually do Sushi and my girlfriend does the shabu or vice versa. Very tasty food and a wide variety of choices. Amazing customer service very efficient, helpful, along with telling us everything we need to know. The venue is stunning especially if you come early enough for a garden seat and the music is always a vibe if you love Japanese City Pop! (I swear we came late at night and they played the Sword Art Online intro) Great spot for friends or just a quick date! Owner is a really cool guy too

I walked into Shabu Garden with high expectations based on the reviews and their Instagram page. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype. The biggest issue with this restaurant is that they are seriously understaffed. I visited on a Saturday afternoon around 4:15 PM. I was told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, which turned into nearly 20. Not a big deal. However, once we were seated, it took another 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, ask about soup bases, or even check if we had been there before. That was my first red flag. The staff wasn't slacking off; they were clearly overwhelmed, running around trying to keep up with seated guests while also cleaning tables. We opted for the hot pot (or "shabu," as they call it). After ordering our soup bases, our server suggested we grab items from the buffet-style setup. I've been to several hot pot and KBBQ spots over the years, and I'd rank this setup in the bottom 50%. They offered some hot items like rice, egg rolls, and fried shrimp, as well as cold items like seafood, tofu, and ramen. While some things were decent, others were just bad. The white rice, in particular, was terrible. This was surprising, given that they also serve sushi. It was somehow both sticky and dry at the same time. I wish they had left it in a rice cooker for guests to scoop themselves rather than placing it in a container. One thing I did enjoy was their sauce selection. It was fantastic. They had peanut sauce, which I love. I do wish they had kimchi, but since this is a Japanese hot pot spot, I understand why they didn't. Another issue was the self-serve soda station. They were out of clean cups, and it took nearly 15 minutes for them to bring more. By the time I got back to my table, the soup had arrived, but we hadn't had a chance to order meat yet, so we just stared at our boiling vegetables for another 5-10 minutes. When the meat finally arrived, it was excellent. They only offer four meat options, but they're solid choices, so I have no complaints there. Combined with the sauces, everything tasted great. The original broth, in particular, was phenomenal. One of the best I've ever had. But despite that, I don't see myself coming back. The lighting in the restaurant was horrible, very dim, which made it difficult to see if the meat was cooked properly. On top of that, the tables were way too small for hot pot. The burner and pot took up almost half the table space, leaving us feeling squished. It was uncomfortable trying to cook, eat, and manage everything in such a cramped setup. The final straw, and the reason I'm actually writing this review, was the automatic tip. A $19.19 gratuity was added to my $158 bill for four adults, with no signage indicating this policy. I understand tipping, and I recognize that the servers were working hard, but automatically adding a tip, especially at a place where we cooked our own food and retrieved our own items from the buffet, is frustrating. Overall, the food had its highlights, but the understaffing, slow service, poor lighting, cramped tables, and unexpected gratuity make it hard for me to recommend this place or return myself.

Very cute little spot! Definitely worth it! I decently priced! The service was even better because it was our first time and the guy working helped explain everything for us. Also, helped me make my birthday feel even more special with the yummy fried matcha ice cream and song.

We went on a Saturday at 6pm without joining the waitlist as yelp said we didn't need to. Our experience vs recent yelp reviews was overall pretty damn positive. The only thing that is true that every other review mentions is yes they add auto gratuity so when you get your check the option is there to still add a tip which if you don't pay attention can lead to you giving a 25%+ tip without realizing it. The service we had was fast, I still don't know who our server was because about 6 different people kept asking us if we needed anything. Our tablet worked fine and we were able to order everything from it without having it malfunctioning or not working as some others have stated. One odd thing to mention is the soda cup is about 2x as big as the water cup. The sushi itself tasted good, however my girlfriend and I try to get our moneys worth so we normally only pick nigiri and the standard apps, and avoid any kind of rolls. Our take is on the carpaccio, seared salmon, tuna, and escolar, and fresh water eel. All the nigiri we had weren't "fishy" or tasted not fresh or whatever some of the other reviews mentioned but again we didn't have any of the items other people have complained about. So if you're looking for an AYCE sushi place and are tryna get your moneys worth I'd say it's a good place to go.

At one point, music turned loud and lights flashed, to celebrate someone's bday so something to be aware of that they do. Overall, our dining experience was satisfying. I was a big fan of the salmon carpaccio and the super sexy bowl. The fish tasted fresh and portions are large so you get your moneys worth. My companion did mention that their bulgogi had more onion than meat which was visibly notable. Definitely aim to visit again and will recommend this spot to others.

Our anticipation for a special family meal was unfortunately tempered by several service issues that we believe warrant your attention. Upon being seated, our party experienced a significant delay of approximately forty-five minutes before a chef was assigned to our table to commence the cooking process. This initial wait was further compounded when, upon the chef's eventual arrival, it became apparent that he did not have all the necessary ingredients readily available to prepare the meals for our group of eight, causing additional minor delays. Despite these operational challenges, we were pleased to observe a notable improvement in our dining experience once the chef began cooking and actively engaging with our table. The quality of the cuisine was exceptional, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the delicious food prepared. However, we must also highlight a comfort issue that affected our overall experience. The air conditioning system appeared to be insufficient in counteracting the considerable heat generated by the hibachi cooking tables, leading to a somewhat uncomfortably warm environment throughout our meal. We trust this feedback will be valuable in identifying areas for improvement to ensure a more consistently seamless and comfortable dining experience for your future patrons. After eleven years of living in the IE, it was finally time to try it. Our family entered the restaurant not knowing what to expect. Inside the restaurant was a nice bar area with only two sushi chefs working. We were quickly seated and offered menus and drinks. The waiter explained that the AYCE option had no time limit with only three rounds. If there was anything not listed on the AYCE that we wanted to try, we could write it in the comments section. He then asked if we have ever been to Joe's. We told him it was our first time. He came back a little while later with an appetizer platter (gyoza, crab Rangoon) and another platter of shrimp tempura on the house. Despite two chefs manning the bar, orders came flying out at rapid speed. Multiple plates of sushi made our way to the table that they started filling an adjoining table with our dishes. We ordered a bunch of Cajun tuna nigiri which was generously portioned but could have used more Cajun seasoning. The yellowtail nigiri was light and fatty. My wife loved the Tokyo Night roll, a spicy tuna topped with tuna and cilantro which made an impact with the cilantro offering a contrasting, refreshing bite. Tuna Tornado was another similar roll with spicy ahi and seared tins on top. Unfortunately, we ordered so much that we only lasted one round My wife bravely asked, "who is Joe?" To that, the waitress responded that the original owner's name was Joe and it started off as a night club. Five owners later, her family took over and kept the name as Joe's was a staple in Riverside. Despite its very Americanized name, Joe's sushi offers quality, authentic sushi at a decent price point. We proudly recommend Joe's and will be back.
