Dropped my sister's car in yesterday for tire repair and an oil change. The guys at the front were extremely courteous (to me and my dog that was along for the ride). I had thought / hoped that there was a hole in the tire that needed a simple patching, but the whole tire was shot and I ended up needing to replace both on the axle. The guy that handled my car walked me thoroughly through the rationale, I didn't feel like I was being oversold or pushed into something I didn't need. I knew I could trust them and I was right. I thought a needed a new tire, but these decent guys said no a patch would work. I was pretty much in and out. I needed new tires for my BMW.Owning this car I needed very specific tires and types of radial. When I entered they immediately greeted me and let me know they were going to be right with me. Checked my car out and then I told the guy I would be at work, and he said it was fine I can pick up when I am off. One week later I notice it was the wrong size tires and all. Immediately became furious because then I realized why my ABS light kept coming on. Went back the next day to confront. The reason I am giving 5 stars is the way they handled the situation. I walked up and said "Hey, you gave me the wrong tires." He did not hesitate. Went to check them out, immediately printed me a receipt and said come pick up after work again. Did not charge me extra or anything. When I came to pick up he took me for a ride and asked me if everything is ok. It was perfect. Will most definitely return when I need tires for any one of my other cars. Easily accessible from the street, can see the big sign on the street. Some parking but there is parking on the street as well. Very reasonable pricing and premium customer service. read more

Quick service at Joe's. I walked into the super clean garage and Andre (I think that was his name) helped me right away. I asked his opinion on my tires and I wanted to get a spare because my replacement tire went flat. He recommended I get two of the tires replaced and then use one of the old tires as a spare. He also recommended I get the tires aligned, which I already knew I needed because my car never wanted to drive in a straight line. After he quoted me, I thought I couldn't do it because it would be over my budget, but he said they could do it at my price. :) Andre said it would be about 45 minutes, so I handed him the keys and did some grocery shopping at Trader Joe's next door... I think I looked at every different beer and every bottle of wine in that 45 minutes and I didn't even buy one. haha. I was just finishing up checking out my chips and sparkling water when I got a call that my car was ready. I walked up to the counter, Andre showed me how horribly aligned my tires were before, and I paid. Overall, it seemed like Joe's Tires is a great garage that is straight to the point, friendly, and very helpful. I'd definitely recommend Joe's Tires to anyone looking for great customer service. read more

During a recent daytrip from Sacramento to Berkeley with mah best friend, her back tire decided to explode on I80W. After some quality time with the super amazing Freeway Services Patrol, (talking 'bout something 5 deserving 5 stars? Sheesh. FSP was PHENOM. Look 'em up.) we continued on at 50 mph with our hazards flashing. Yeah, crazy kids! Since our destination was University Avenue, I used my trusty Yelp app to find the closest tire place... which happened to be Joe's. The guy at Joe's was helpful and patient, especially to two 20-something chicks who knew NOTHING about tires. (Seriously. I thought that "changing a tire" was just replacing the black rubbery part; my mind was blown when FSP guy took the silver part off, too). Lil' Joe (didn't catch his name, so I'll call him Lil' Joe) gave us options to replace just the one tire or all four, explained our options, and didn't pressue us at all when we just opted for the one. Lil' Joe wasn't overly friendly, just kind of here's the deal, whaddaya want, okay let's do this. I didn't feel like we were being screwed, which was nice. In the end, they were DONE in 30 minutes. Hardly a glitch in our day at all. The area you wait was kind of weird, (a big empty showroom with a couch in the corner. No biggie.) Bonus: Joe's is right next to a Trader Joe's, in case you feel like running over there for a Larabar or a $2 bottle of wine. Verdict: My experience at Joe's didn't make me want to buy stock, but it was fast and easy and I would recommend this place. read more

Last January, I was quite unimpressed with my driving. I jumped a curb and knew my tire was flat almost right away. I had an appointment to make, and I didn't have time to spare, and University Avenue is basically flat, and I was pulled over in an actual parking spot without anyone behind me so that oncoming traffic had a clear view of me. So I went to work on changing my tire, and you know what? Last January, I was quite impressed with myself. I got the entire job done, from getting out of my car to getting back on the road, in fourteen minutes. I'm not exaggerating; I looked at the clock when I got out and when I got back in. To add to the impressiveness of my feat, I'll point out that I was using the cheapo L-shaped lug wrench that comes standard with my little car, rather than the easier-to-use spider design. To further add to the impressiveness of my feat, I'll point out that I didn't jack the car up high enough because the jack crank was so flimsy, so I couldn't even turn the wrench all the way around without it hitting the ground; I had to ratchet it constantly. Last January, I was quite impressed by Joe's Tires's service. As luck would have it and not have it, I changed my tire a block or so from Joe's. Now, if I hadn't had that appointment to make, I might have driven to Joe's and let them replace my tire, but I didn't, and I actually drove way too far and too much with my donut spare, but I eventually came back to Joe's, and they did a great job. It's a little on the pricy side, but they're pros all the way. I'd much rather support a local place with nice people than some huge chain populated by unhappy workers. read more

I came in stressed out on a Sunday when I was in the middle of moving and these guys made my life so much easier by giving me a courtesy ride to my new home and then picking me up again once my new tire was on. Checked their online store and it showed a great price. I called wanting to see if I should just buy them online or if I could come in since I needed the tires ASAP. After being transfered all around I finally got someone that worked at Joe's Tires (Do they share a line with other companies?). I was given a quote about $50 higher than online. I told them this and the rep told me they're suppose to match whatever's online but she'd have to double check with her manager. She would give me a call back but needed a credit card for a down payment/security deposit. Seven or so hours pass and I call back to check up. The same rep isn't there but my number was taken down again as she should be right back. It's been a couple days and I havent heard from them, I was still charged the "down payment/security deposite". Pretty terrible experience all together. They also offer you a discount if you write a yelp review, doesn't necessarily say a positive one but it still might explain all the 5 stars. Of course that is only speculation on my part. read more

It's a nice, clean shop. BUT when I asked them to repair a flat with a screw right in the middle of the tread, they said the sidewall was unsafe, and that I needed a new tire. I then went for a second opinion to Don's Tires on Gilman, where they repaired the tire (and tested the sidewall, just to be safe) for $25. Steer clear of shops like Joe's that try to hoodwink customers into buying new tires. read more

Well, this place is conveniently located in downtown Berkeley right next to Trader Joes. It's walking distance to the BART station, restaurants, banks--all that stuff that comes with a downtown location. I dropped my car off there to fix my alignment and check my breaks. The man who helped me was very nice and polite. All seemed well. He charged $90 to do my alignment and another $70 for a brake check. After I told my friend about my spending at Joes, they GASPED and said I was ripped off--especially for my brake check. Apparently alignment fixing and break checks don't have to cost that much. GRRRRRRR. I won't come here again for those two procedures. I admit, I didn't do much shopping around to different places AND this was mostly chosen b/c it was really close to where I needed to go. So it was kind of my fault, but MAYBE I can be of help to others who are considering this place for alignment and a brake check. Maybe Big O...? read more

I never thought too much about tire shops, so when my husband said that he found a new one it didn't phase me. However, when he said that I was the one that had to take the car in to have the tires changed, I was irritated...... Who wants to spend hours wanting around in a dirty tire shop or spend time walking around looking for a good place to have coffee or get online while you wait. When I showed up at Joe's the first thing I noticed was how friendly everyone was. They also promised me that I would be driving off in just over an hour (promise kept). When I told the manager that I was going to wait he offered me a seat in their waiting room and told me that they had wi-fi access for all of their customers. He also showed me where the restrooms where. After checking everything out I was impressed. The restroom was very clean and the waiting room was clean, quiet and comfortable. He also offered to make me a fresh pot of coffee, but admitted that it would not be as good as the closest coffee shop. I passes on the coffee, but I did sit in the waiting room and got a lot done using their wi-fi. The only draw back to the waiting room was the smell of tires and oil, but seriously what do you expect, it is a tire shop. The service they offered was also great. We got a good deal on the tires and alignment. They will tell you as much (or has little) about tires, alignment, brakes etc, as you want to know. I drove off, in just over an hour, feeling confident about my tires and good that I was able to get some work done during the wait! read more

This review is specifically for the owners of Joe's Tires. I don't know how much you're paying your mechanic Jose, but whatever it is you should double it AT LEAST. I have never received such impeccable customer service as the care and attention I've received from Jose. Not only did he squeeze me in right in the middle of the crazy memorial day weekend rush, but he repeatedly worked with my schedule to fix all my car needs. To say I came in driving a death trap is an understatement. My back right wheel baring had completely come off my 2002 VW Cabrio, a car VW discontinued 11 years ago. It had done massive damage to multiple parts of my car including the ABS sensor. Jose tirelessly reached out across the several weeks it took to collect all the parts needed to get my car back in running order. Not an easy task on a car so old and that is no longer made. He additionally went above and beyond the call of duty giving my car the extra care it desperately needed to get back in better shape then it was when I originally purchased the vehicle 7 years ago. He also patiently and continuously walked me through all the work that was being done in a simply manner so that a car novice like myself could understand and hopefully prevent issues occurring in the future. I'm not a bigger Yelper, but I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I'm so grateful for this site when it gives me the opportunity to praise such deserving individuals. Jose has made me a life longer customer of Joe's Tires and I can't recommend his services enough to anyone that is looking for an honest job. Being new to the east bay and with all the shady car shops out there, I was beyond elated to have dropped in upon such an incredible mechanic that truly understands the meaning of customer service. Absolutely the kindest souls in the tire industry. My girlfriend came over here with a flat on her car from a pothole and they did their best to help as much as they could. They undid the bend in her rim and plugged up the hole for the temporary so she could drive back 30 miles to home for the spare tire. And to top it all of, they were kind enough to do this for free. Places like this make me a bit uncomfortable because there's a high potential for getting ripped off. I came in today because it was clear that I needed at least one new tire and that faulty wheel alignment was the cause. These guys (Jose and Cass) aligned the wheels perfectly and sold me two tires. They also repaired a third tire, which looked fine to me but in fact had a slow leak due to a metal slug that had penetrated right through the rubber. I'm completely confident in their work and advice and semi-confident that I paid roughly the right price. It would be more than a little over the top to leave your car here for wheel or tire work just so you don't have to worry about parking at the new Trader Joe's. On the other hand, coming in for a safety check or for needed work seems to me like a smart move. read more

Somehow on my drive up from LA, I completely destroyed the splash guard under my car, and I could hear it scraping along everywhere I drove in Berkeley. At that point, I just wanted the thing removed for fear of leaving it behind on a freeway on the way back to LA. I brought it in here first thing, on a Sunday morning no less, and was in and out in 10 minutes. They didn't even charge me just to rip the thing off and send me on my way. They basically just guaranteed that if I ever have problems in this area again, I'm coming here. Seems like a great spot to be a regular if you live near here--awesome service! read more

5 minutes before their listed close time and they wouldn't help us replace our stripped out tire. My husband and I had tire problems in San Jose, went to a tire store and they said they helped patch it up but then our tire got worse and our entire car was rattling (already a crazy day for us by then). Amazingly we were able to get off the I-80 to the Toyota center, who then sent us to here. The guy at the front desk at Joe's Tires basically said "Toyota should know better, we close earlier than them", and wouldn't help us. I just can't even believe it. Every day we wake up to news that makes us wonder where the world is heading (probably ending soon by the looks of it), and our experience at Joe's Tires is one of those experiences that make me realize that we don't stop to help one another often enough. Came here before I hit the road to drive to LA because my tire sensor light was on. They checked my tires, made sure the pressure was correct and there were no leaks or nails. They reassured me that it was safe to drive and the issue was with the sensor itself. And they did all this for no charge! This review is LONG over due. Few months ago it was time for me to get new tires. My mom recommended me to joe's tires and had told me they had reasonable prices. We all know how expensive tires can be haha. First coming in i got a friendly welcoming from GABRIELA who was so kind and was really intuitive to all my concerns and what tires and price line best suited me. When my tires were done i needed to get my shocks and struts replaced due to them being completely shot. My big brother kindly did them for me. After my shocks and struts were finished i was able to come back and get my alignment done. Just a few days ago i came back with concerns of my steering wheel vibrating and my tires feeling weird. I had called in when i was at work and they right on the spot told me to come in and they would check it out. When i arrived Gabriela was working that day. Hey girl!!! Lol and she as always was super kind and listened to what i was going through with my car. As i waited for them to inspect my car and see what the problem was they had a nice lounge are with beverages and coffee including t.v for little entertainment. After a little time went by Gabriela let me know what the crew had said was going on with the car. Joe's tires was kind enough to fit me in for some work on my car that day and to schedule and appointment another day for the rest of the work. I had put off some much needed tire replacement during the pandemic but because of family circumstances I needed to travel within a very short window. Because of the great reviews I contacted Joe's Tires and they were able to fit me in. They were professional and gracious. The staff were great, but especially Carlos who carefully provided an estimate, decritiption of the proposed work and detailed findings at the pick-up point. I felt the pricepoint was excellent for the work and the product. It was considerably less than what than the dealer proposed and time offered.I can't recommend them more. read more

I've been to many repair shops over the years and this is the only place that I think ripped me off cause they assumed they could take advantage of me since I look young and looking female. This is now the third time I have taken my car to Joe's and Roberto always has made certain that my Bimmers are very well cared for and repaired properly while there. They spent several days with my latest issue (brake fluid leak, power steering hose failure, transmission leak) and even went to the trouble to order the special tools just to work on this car! He also took pictures of the problems and texted them to me immediately, a great customer service policy. Truly service above and beyond and will get more of my business for sure. I stopped in to get my car Bender an oil change, since I live just three blocks away. They mentioned that they were pretty busy so it would take about an hour to get to me, and I said this was fine. Price for the oil change was exactly as they quoted, and average for an oil change. They called me up as soon as it was done. When I walked in (me, a 20ish girl, dressed up in my work clothes), I was immediately greeted by not one, not two, but THREE different people! Jose also recognized me right away when I came back to pick Bender up. Great service from these guys. I'll be getting Bender's lube done here again. read more

I've come here twice now for reliable service on two low tires. I pull in, they ask whats up, I explain I have a low tire, one guys gets in the car to move it and the other escorts me to the desk. I sign some paper work saying it will be $30 if they find a hole and can patch it. Both times this is how its gone down. Both times I decided to hang around, read a book, or make a phone call and they come get me from the couch in their large empty waiting room that faces University. Both times they found the item and were able to patch the tire up like new. I pay my bill and I'm on my way. It hasn't taken more than 40 mins either time, if that. The owner at Joes tires is soooo awesome! I wanted to switch out some tires that i friend had given me and he held on to the tires for over two weeks for me and rotated and switched them out for only $25 bucks, but would not let me pay him extra for storing the tires. All the staff there are super friendly, and informative (I kept asking a lot of questions about cars and tires). Service was extremely fast! When and if I need tires, I will not be going anywhere else but this place, they seem very trustworthy (which is hard to find nowadays). read more

After calling around and receiving crazy prices...seriously....$155 to assemble spring/struts? I can do that in 15 minutes per assembly. These guys are just so nice to deal with. I was almost amazed to find a good garage almost by accident. I always get kind and thoughtful custimer service. I'm not sure if they just lucked into finding an amazing employee as the main customer contact/service writer? The valve stem in one of my tires was leaking and I called at 5pm if he could fix it. He quoted me $20. Jose was very friendly and had me feel out the standard paperwork. Just a few minutes later, everything was already done. Their mechanic, Cass, had replaced the inner valve spring and was topping off the air in all four tires. He was also very knowledgeable and answered many of my questions about wheels. (ie, the air at gas stations contain a lot of moisture because they never drain their tanks, so that leads to corrosion in your wheels, and if it's chrome, it will peel off and leak air.) Since it was such minor work, Jose said he wouldn't charge me a dime! Everything was free and my tire no longer leaks. Great service from great people. If I have any other tire/wheel problems I would not hesitate to go back. edit: I ended up going back to Joe's when it was time to replace my tires. Again, great service and hassle-free! And when a friend blew out her tire (irrepairable leak in the sidewall), I of course recommended Joe's and he had an exact replacement the next day. Unfortunately Joe's doesn't shave tires, so she had to go to another shop for that. note: Since her car was AWD, and the tires were a a bit worn, the new tire would have a larger diameter than the other 3. To prevent damaging the differentials, you should either replace all 4 tires or get the replacement tire shaved to match the others. This isn't some tire shop scam, to get more money from you. A differential is many times more costly to repair than spending $50 to shave a tire and have its diameter matched. read more

I need to take a moment to give a shout-out to the amazing staff who assisted my sister/family. GABRIELA and JOSH KILLED THE GAME with their professional service! A++ top notch flight security!!! Back Story- Recently my sister bought tires for her Honda. Killer deal on the set. Her suspension was shot. I replaced struts and shocks before she got an alignment at Joe's. My sister has extreme anxiety, and when she heard there was something wrong with her baby, she started to fall apart. She did not understand what was wrong with her ride, car mechanics can be intimidating and she began to stress out since I touched her car last. She called my mother to voice frustrations. I received a call from mom to go understand the situation /"handle it". My whole day changed since big brother had to go down to understand what transpired. All I was told was that there was damage to tire and could have been from an improper install of struts and shocks. I have installed a few struts and shocks before with no issues. I was racking my brain what could have gone wrong. Did I mess up and its all my fault? I know some reputable mechanics who I called to trouble shoot issue from my Enterprise days. You never know with mechanics trying to pull fast ones. Personally, I have never been into Joe's until today. Big bro, me, went in there guns blazing. I had limited information and apparently all the wrong information since my sister's anxiety was through the roof. Josh handled himself quite well with my bluntness. I informed him I was not new to the game and wanted to see the paperwork given to my sister. Gabriela jumped in, the one who assisted my sister, and she explained the issue. Apparently my sister curbed her car really bad and the rim was bent. Also she mentioned that rear camber arm was iffy. Ah Ha, it made sense with the information I was given from my sister( a little selective hearing happened with her high anxiety). After all was said an done, Josh reached across the counter with a firm handshake! Having worked in the rental car game, I am well aware emotions can take over! I found a screw in my tire, brought my car in and within a few minutes the service advisor Jose came back and said that screw hadn't punctured completely and I was free to go at no charge! The technician was also very nice and said they did an air bubble check just to make sure! So while i didn't actually receive service, I can imagine it would have been very professional and quick just like my brief encounter. I will recommend this shop to friends and family! read more

I wish I could rate this place higher, but based on my experience, 2 is the highest I can justify. My car gave tire-pressure-loss warning Friday. I re-pressurized the tire in question and brought the car to Joe's Saturday morning. They kept the car there for 3 hours - when I returned to pick up the car, they told me that they did a thorough check and found nothing wrong with the tire, they said that they even took the tire off the rim to double check. They assured me that I was okay to go. I took the car home and left it in garage over the weekend. Come Monday morning, the same tire was totally flat. Long story short, I took it to Don's Tires in Berkeley - sure enough there was a nail in it. I wished Joe's had done their job Saturday morning to save me all the craziness Monday morning struggling with a flat tire while trying to get to work. The guys at Joe's were very friendly and helpful - this is why I gave a 2 not 1. People working on tires in a tire shop should be able to find a nail in the tire. read more
