Stayed a week at LBI and wanted something simple in the area and I have been going to LBI the 3rd week in September for 18 years here in Ship Bottom and never entered this place. Always passing it by on my travels. So I made the call to pickup a large thin crust pie with half pepperoni & mushrooms and the other half plain. The only reason I am giving them 1 star is because yesterday the young man who delivered the pizza was extremely nice to my mom. So we decided to visit them this afternoon for an early dinner. HORRIBLE! The one young lady, the taller of them all was extremely rude, thought she knew everything and carried on as if she was the boss of everything and everyone. Ordered three pizzas for takeout. The two I tried were very good. The white pizza has nice size gobs of ricotta to go with the cheese and hint of garlic oil. Joey's special was also very good, with a crust that is just the right consistency between pillowy and crunchy. We ordered online, which somehow avoided the 3% credit card fee (the fee is the reason for the deducted star). They are lucky they are on LBI! I ordered a $28.00 pizza along with mussels at 5:15pm this evening and it arrived at 6:55pm. You read this correct. When I called they kept telling 10 more minutes. 10 minutes turned into 1 3/4 hours. There's one thing you have to understand about me before you keep reading. I love ALL pizza, even the crappy ones. Give me any pizza any time any where and I will eat the whole thing gladly. So when I say that Joey's was so bad that I couldn't even finish my slice, that needs to mean a lot to you. We got a half buffalo chicken and half white pie, as shown in the picture. As you can see, it has a sort of Chuck-E-Cheese effect going on. It looks like they took two pies and smushed them together. The second I opened the box and laid eyes on it, I knew I was done for. I then took a bite, and the sheer taste of old, dirty oil coated my entire mouth. The cheese dollops on the white slice tasted like my poop. Speaking of which, I always have to go to the bathroom after a meal. But usually it's nothing severe and it hits me like an hour later. But ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you, within 3 minutes of eating this slice, my butt was hurting in ways I have never experienced. I was on that toilet for a LONG time. The pain was like nothing else in my life. We then looked up other reviews, and I saw a picture of this cheese steak that I swear to God almost made me hurl. And it's not just me - I ate this with two friends, and we were all equally sick after. One of them even felt light-headed. Listen, I don't write reviews. I'm too lazy for that. But I feel an obligation to warn everyone who may consider eating here NOT TO, or else you may very well experience medical complications. I really wish I could say I was joking... Food is good - but service is rude.... it's not even slow service I was the only one at the counter for pickup. However the girls have miserable personalities and didn't even respond to the hello or even come help us as they were standing there staring at us hoping we might go away.. Absolutely terrible people to deal with and the foods not that good. They are on Uber Eats and accept orders but then don't fulfill your orders, essentially stealing money from their patrons. If you cancel from your end Uber Eats will charge you so your only option is to wait until they finally cancel your order. Joey's pizza is the taste of summer to our family. Their gluten-free pizza is something my son, with celiac disease, looks forward to all year. They follow the right precautions to keep him safe, and we're grateful. We only wish they hadn't closed their classic 81st/82nd street location. After trying all the pizza places in surf city and north on LBI we decided to try Joey's after seeing an ad in the Sandpaper ... to our delight ... the pizza was amazing! We ordered a large plain ( cheese) and a Joeys special .. along with French fries ... keep in mind , I spent a lot of time around pizza , as I've worked in 3 different places north on the Jersey shore ( Long branch area ) only to find Joeys the most comparable with classic NYC pizza ! I would love to give this place a better review because their food is awesome.... some of the best on the island, but their customer service is awful. Everyone just seems miserable that works there. We've never had a bad meal from Joeys, but my suggestion is get it delivered. The delivery guy is super nice .
