My sister (71) has the grilled shrimp. She is specials needs and I had to take the tales off. They were very good. Ample portions with Sand Dollar chips and parmesan. I had the cod fish sandwich and chips. Two nice size pieces of cod. Too much bun so I removed the top. I still only ate half of the bottom. Very filling for me. We were looking for a good, inexpensive meal and Joey's was recommended by my niece. It is a corner bar and grill; nothing fancy in or out, friendly atmosphere. The bar was 2/4 full with local repeat customers. Seemed to be a jovial atmosphere. We were the only diners. Yum!! I've always loved the sand dollars here, and since I had family visiting, I figured I wanted to show off some delicious food to them. The meal did not disappoint. My lobster BLT was filled with lobster and bacon. A companion had the perch fish fry and said it was great. As always, gotta get the side of tiger sauce with your meal. read more

I was in Racine for a retirement party last weekend and wanted a fish fry. My boyfriend and his mom said The Yard Arm had the best fish fry in Racine. We went later in the evening so it was not too crowded. I've heard it is packed on Fridays so I'd suggest going later. They have cute nautical decor throughout. My boyfriend and I ordered the perch fish fry. It was AMAZING -- Tasted fresh, had great crunch, and was a good portion. They also have sand dollars - a potato chip with Parmesan. They were awesome! Ours weren't super crunchy when they came out so we told the waitress. They came out with two full orders to replace them. We were pleased with that service! Would definitely go back! read more

As a Racine native, I always make sure to stop by Yardarm when I come home. Usually I am very pleased when I come in - definitely recommend the sand dollars and the tiger sauce. I was disappointed this time when I came in recently. The restaurant was not very busy and the service was so slow. We were not given our drinks until almost 10 minutes after ordering them and we did not get a refill for a long time. Some people also ordered mixed drinks and complained that they were too weak. We were unable to give the drinks back and order new ones because our waitress was gone for 15 minutes. By that point we were so thirsty we just drank them. The food took forever as well - over 45 minutes to get our meals. It was a very unusual experience, not sure if anything has changed recently but I sure hope this most recent experience was an exception to the rule. read more

2.5 stars... Looking for something different and this joint looked interesting. I came because of the dessert and it was what I enjoyed most. I ordered the fisherman's platter and chose walleye and shrimp. The shrimp was crunchy and heavily (Panko style) breaded. I figure they are frozen and not hand battered at the restaurant. The fish was tender but the breading was not impressive. I opted for a salad in place of my choice of side. The platter was served with "sand dollars" which are house made potato chips. I enjoyed the crispy ones, but far too many were soggy as if they had sat too long. They were covered with a garlic Parmesan mix that was quite tasty. For dessert I ordered the brownie explosion ice cream cake. It was a Oreo crust cup with chocolate brownie ice cream. It was topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a cherry. As I said, this was the best part of the meal. Prices are in line with expectation and ambiance was ship shape seaworthy for landlubbers. Food : Soggy potato slices (as noted by other yelpers) under-fried fish, and small portions of what they call sweet and sour slaw many people would call kraut. I'd probably go again, but I'm in no hurry. I guess people rave about their sand dollars, but I don't see the reason. They're soggy potato chips covered .. COVERED in the kind of Parmesan "cheese" you shake out of a can. I guess if I was drunk I'd enjoy them more, and that's who's typically dining there - a bunch of over-served customers and even a few servers who seem tipsy. The seafood ceviche was drowning in lemon juice. That's all I could taste, which makes me wonder if the seafood was turning. The tuna steak I got was well, though I asked for medium rare. It didn't taste bad but it's not what I wanted. The shrimp po boy tasted like it was deep fried in salt. Get better Joey...the competition in Racine isn't setting the bar high and that's the main reason people still come there. read more

Yardarm is our go to restaurant for fish fry. My wife goes for the walleye with sweet potato fries, I love their panko encrusted blue gill with grilled vegetables and black bean salad. The beer selection is great. Don't miss out on their pie selections for dessert and the coffee is good. read more

The Yardarm is a Racine institution. The new ownership has done a great job with a physical upgrade to the bar/restaurant in 2019 as well as a new and improved menu. A Wisconsin place with a nautical theme just HAS to include a Friday fish fry. The one at Joey's doesn't disappoint. We did another early bird special at Joey's Yardarm, down along the Root River and Lake Michigan in Racine. $2 off fish fry between 3-5 pm, plus free draft beer. $1 off mixed drinks. Go early for a seat at the bar. Hallmark channel on in the back room for us romantics, and football on in bar area. Excellent burger. We normally go on Fridays for the Wisconsin fish fry (bluegill, cod, perch, walleye). Burgers don't disappoint . Excellent service. Give it a try. Gets crowded on weekends. read more

We were here a few years ago. Went Yesterday for fish fry with friends. I was looking forward to the sand collar fries/chips they didn't disappoint! Three of us ordered the Cod fish fry. It was delivered hot and so delicious! It was battered lightly and seasoned just right! Our other friend had a burger. He said it was delicious, it was a generous size. We ate everything! I've been coming here since I was a kid and despite the change of ownership, the place has always held strong. The presentation of the food is gorgeous, and the fish is always phenomenal. My personal favorite is the walleye sandwich & their white cheddar cheese curds. The parking is good, location is prime, and it's always a comfortable environment. It's on the lower end of the price spectrum, so don't expect a spacious dining room or make comparisons to The Reefpoint Brewhouse, (another fantastic restaurant in downtown). Other minor critiques include no blender for the bar, and Friday's always have insane wait times, but it's to be expected considering that's when they have their specials & how hot of a spot the place is. Overall, you can't expect to find anywhere in Southeastern Wisconsin with better fish fry for the price! read more

Buffalo wings to start were really good, crispy with the right amount of spice and not breaded, which for us is a good thing. The fried cod was good but the sand dollars just aren't what they used to be. There used to be an equal ratio of crisp to soft sand dollars but now they are all just crispy, maybe some people like them crispy but I always liked getting pillowy soft sand dollars mixed in to provide that texture contrast. We shared a cup of the baked french onion soup and I will definitely order it again, salty gooey goodness. My grilled shrimp Caesar salad was great, 6 shrimp grilled to perfection and scratch made dressing and croutons-can't go wrong with that. All in all a good experience. We were visiting the zoo and looking for someplace to eat.... so as any good Yelper would do, pulled out the smart phone and opened up Yelp and started browsing and came across the Yardarm and with the writ ups we knew it was a safe bet. As soon as you enter the place you know you are in a neighborhood establishment which is well used. As the name suggests, the theme is nautical and if you didn't know any better you could very easily feel like you are in Main or on Cape Cod right by the ocean. The bar is very inviting and I made a mental note that someday my wife and I are going to try it out, but for this visit we kept to a family day mentality. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful with several items on the menu. The appetizers and main meal all came out in good time and the most important part, every meal was really good. Alright, I'm conflicted here. Let's start with the good. I liked the fish, service, bar atmosphere, and fact that they had a lot going on most nights (not the night we were there, though). The bad was news was the food. I wish I would have come here for a bar experience rather than a family meal. The cheese curds were ok, the shrimp were ok, and the veggies were probably microwaved. The sand dollars I don't understand. Are they supposed to be soggy? I saw them and expected home made chips. Biting into one was a rude awakening because there was no crunch. I didn't ask. Heads up to those coming after me. I wish I would have come here under different pretenses. I might have given a better rating. The staff were great and the prices decent. The nautical decor and hometown bar feel are very fun. My husband and I came in on a Wednesday. There was live music. Our servers were exceptionally friendly and helpful in choosing menu items. Our food was very good. My husband got the steak sandwich and I got the Cajun Catfish. (Highly recommend!) The sand dollars were ok. Mine were a bit soggy. Much better rebaked at home! Our only complaints were that the bloody Mary's we order were pretty much tomato juice. They had a sign on the table saying "Best Bloody Mary's" so we were disappointed. Baked French Onion soup-awesome Side salad-little lacking in other veggies besides fresh Romaine, but it was sizable and I really enjoyed it Veggies with entree-very good Old fashions (sweet and sour)-obviously made by a good bartender! New York Strip steak order rare-was ACTUALLY rare!!! Like, perfectly rare....not unevenly cooked, raw, or mostly pink with some red. The cooks are clearly pretty talented, at least the one working that was that friday night. The wait time to get your food is ridiculous. I would agree with what another yelper wrote about waiting 70 minutes to get your food. The quality isn't that great, it's typical bar food, but much more expensive. The sand dollars are soggy. Sand dollars when made correctly are crispy, and warm/hot. These are soggy, soft, and room temperature. Their saving grace is the waitstaff who actually want to do a good job. I didn't pick this place, I was taken there, and will definitely never return. Not worth my money, my time, frustration, or my hunger. Racine offers quite a variety of 4.0 restaurants, and for good reason, good food, good service, good prices, and a good time. read more
