Alright .... I must join the choir in praise of John Castro Plumbing! My Rinnai tankless water heater started beeping on a weekend afternoon with an error code that shut down our hot water. I first called our plumber that had installed the unit for us a couple of years ago. When he eventually got back to us he was honest & let me know even though he had very capably installed the unit he did not have the knowledge to do any repairs on it. He recommended going to the Rinnai site to get a recommended certified Rinnai plumber. They recommended John Castro Plumbing. When I called the number, I believe it was Chris who answered right away. After explaining my situation & the error code he said he could take me thru a process that should clear the error & restart the unit. Within 10 minutes the situation was remedied! He then went on to explain what had caused the error code & how I could help mitigate it in the future by setting a schedule for my recirc pump. All of this he did at no charge! One of the last good guys out there! My tankless WH began to have problems about a month ago, it would work for about 10 minutes and then shutdown giving us an error code. I would have to turn the water off, wait for about 10 seconds, and turn it back on. It made taking showers miserable because I would have to cycle between hot water and cold water every time it shut down. I found a few plumbers that were recommended from the Rinnai manufacturer website. John Castro Plumbing was one of them. We texted for a while regarding my WH problems, the make and model, and the error code. He told me that he was booked for a few days, but wanted to give some suggestions on what he thought the problem was, based on his experience. Basically, he gave me a few ideas on how to fix the problem (if I was handy). Well, I am - so I followed some directions and a YouTube video and bam! Problem solved and no parts needed. He didn't have to do that, he could have come out (service charge), inspected my unit (insert fee here) and made the repairs (maybe new parts). We had a problem with no hot water in one of our showers, and had already had a different plumber look at it with no result. Today was the day I decided I was going to get it fixed. Although it was a Saturday, I called John Castro Plumbing, thinking I would just get an answering machine. To my surprise, Chris Castro picked up the phone, and with a cheerful and helpful attitude to boot! He asked me a few questions, had me check the panel readings on our Rinnai tankless water heater, increase the temperature on the control panel, then test the water in the sink nearby, and narrowed it down to needing an adjustment on the limiter of the shower valve, and even walked me through how to take off the valve and do the adjustment! All of this over the phone and without asking for any fee, and with the honest intent to help. It felt like I was back in time to when service people were really there for you. The pipe under our sink had started leaking and then it had started spraying and leaking so the bucket we had used as our temporary fix was no longer working to contain the water. Our landlord tried to do it himself and when it was apparent he couldn't fix the problem, he called John Castro Plumbing. We got an appointment right away and within 2 days, they were here, fixed the problem in no time, and once again our sink was able to be used. My only complaint is that now that the sink works, I don't have any excuses and now I've gotta do all those piled up dishes. But I have no complaints about John Castro Plumbing! BEST PLUMBER IN TOWN I highly recommend him. I was having trouble with a tankless water heater at my rental house in Winnetka. I had previously called another plumber a few days ago who came down and said that the unit needed to be cleaned out because it had lots of dirt and spider webs inside. So he cleaned it out and the very next morning the tenant tells me it is not working again. So now the previous plumber says that it must be the old kitchen faucet, so that was replaced. This morning the tenant says no hot water again. Now the previous plumber says is unsure what the issue is and tells me to find someone else that works on tankless water heaters. Why didn't he tell me this in the first place. What a big waste of my time and money. And that is when Chris Castro comes to the RESCUE! I found him online and noticed all his great reviews and now I know why. Chris answered the phone and spent a lot of time going over my options . I could tell right away that he was extremely nice, experienced, and knowledgeable. He was able to squeeze me in the very same day on a busy saturday, during the coronavirus lock down. Our Rannai Tankless water heater stopped working in the middle of the night and had water dripping from the tank, there was a small leak in the roof and the water dripped through the filter and caused the system to shut down. I went on the Rinnai site and started calling the referrals a couple of places (being day after Christmas) couldn't send anyone then called John Castro, Chris answered and simply said how can I help, what's going on-he immediately put me at ease. I explained the situation and he helped us over the phone guiding us on how to open the system and dry the tank out and we were able to do it ourselves and we got it working!!
