So I paid the out of pocket of $350 and did the cleaning. Two months later they said the insurance actually won't cover it and I owe another $550. Typically there is more transparency if you're taking a gamble with the insurance company and you may have to pay more. The insurance company denied the claim because there was no evidence of the cleaning needed....so why was it presented to me as critical? It's beyond frustrating to put your trust in a new medical professional and then feel like you're oversold for them to make a profit from either the insurance company or the patient individually.

She's one of the reasons I can continue to get more dental work. They gave me a dental plan and Dr. Fotini Chrisopoulos took time to explain what's best for me. Thanks for all you do! Once i returned i happened to be pregnant and had gotten a letter from my OB stating that the dental work was perfectly safe and actually recommended because of the risk of preterm labor leaving dental decay worsening. Dr. Jackson REFUSED to do any dental work unless i was in actual pain. Despite the letter and my own concerns about the MANY cavities that need to be filled Dr. Jackson was rude and disrespectful to my situation, leaving me in a worse position than i came in. The hygienist and receptionist were nice and actually treat people well but Dr. Jackson is rude, arrogant and not taking any of the patients concerns into consideration. Edit: (additions) I was told that "you have many problems and have had these cavities for a long time now, waiting a couple more months won't hurt" Literally any simple google search and the ADA website states that dental work during pregnancy is not only safe, it is recommended and that pre formed cavities can, and will, get worse and can lead to preterm labor. Dr Jackson was rude and arrogant throughout the entire appointment. Prior to this i have had a couple other negative interactions with Dr. Jackson. He also messed up a few of my fillings, leading to staining on my front teeth and refused to take accountability, when other dentists have told me the work was sloppy and not done correctly which is why there is staining. I brush twice a day like i have been told and floss, some people just have bad teeth and need help. Dr. Jackson continues to judge and look down on his patients.

The office staff is very good. The problem is the owners. Each of the two dentists I had seen left the practice and each time, the owners instructed all the staff to NOT tell patients they were leaving. I found out when I was sitting in the chair at my next appointment and was told I would be seeing a dentist I'd never met. After the second time, I switched to a different practice. I have had doctors and dentists retire or move and they or the practice always informed me. I found the secrecy to be very disrespectful. I should have been told so I could then decide which other dentist I wanted to see (like the one I had seen on other occasions when my regular dentist was on leave).

I saw Dr. Chin first at her Graceful Smiles location in Springfield, but her hours were more and more limited there. So I switched to her Rose Hill location with Dr. Mestas. Dr. Chin is a caring, highly intelligent dentist who understood that many of my issues (grinding, fractures, jaw pain) were due to my overall jaw/tooth structure, so I agreed to an occlusal analysis. I do not regret this investment one bit! After Dr. Chin reshaped my teeth, I no longer grind because my teeth all "hit" at the same time. So all the fractures that she's been watching, all the decay that she's been cleaning out and covering with crowns, and the ONE TOOTH that I went in for originally, that is now extracted and waiting for a new implant .... all of this has been done with kindness and expertise that has helped immensely - see, I'm a dental phobic. It took a LOT to get me in that chair for all these procedures, but Dr. Chin does wonderful work, thoroughly and with consideration for the patient. And we all know that a doctor's office does not end with the doctor; the front desk must also carry a lot of the treatment logistics and patient needs - insurance, prescriptions, etc. Mariela has been very helpful, and knows her stuff. I always feel as though I'm in good hands, even while I feel overwhelmed by insurance. Mariela has handled everything from insurance claims to prescriptions for Valium (like I said, phobic) to reassuring me that I really, really should just come in as scheduled instead of wimping out because I'm terrified. :) My teeth are better, though there's still a crown or three and an implant to get through. But Dr. Chin has been able to explain the whys and hows in a way that makes sense, and she's improved my overall oral health in a relatively short time. Highly recommend! Whether you see her in Rose Hill at Dr. Mestas' office, with Mariela at the front desk, or at Graceful Smiles in Springfield with Mayra at the desk (she's amazing and deserves her own Yelp review!), you will be in good hands with Dr. Chin and staff.
