    Challenging sized old wall oven that sent me to seven different retailers til I discovered Johnny's

    Your favorite Yelp Correspondent here with a review that doesn't feature Mexican cuisine or a big ol' half pound burger! We are preparing our home to move, after 23+ glorious years here in the only home our children have ever known, and I needed to replace my uniquely sized wall oven and built-in cooktop range, centered on a granite island. Due to the unusual size of my wall oven (24" W X 42" H, comparable to the wall unit that witty housekeeper ALICE employed on "The Brady Bunch"), my options were extremely limited and insanely expensive. To wit, the extortionate profiteers at Worst, um, Best Buy wanted $4,500 just for the wall unit!! I tried a half dozen Mom & Pop type appliance stores and mercifully ran across JOHNNY'S APPLIANCES in Downey. Salesperson Adriana was razor sharp, expertly able to decipher the alpha-numeric model # from my old Frigidaire unit even though the photo was snapped showing the # in upside down, reverse format! With Adriana's assistance, I was able to replace both the bizarrely sized wall unit and the cooktop range for $1,727 incl delivery and taxes. That computes to ONE-THIRD the cost of what the jabronies at Worst Buy wanted to sucker me outtve, solely for the wall unit!! Upon delivery, our driver DANNY truly distinguished himself. Across 27yrs of purchasing major appliances and TVs and what not, Danny was by far the nicest and most professional of any driver/installer we've EVER encountered! He waited patiently when it took me five minutes to schlep downstairs after I slept thru my alarm (hey, your favorite Yelp Correspondent is nothing if not honest to a fault!), then patiently waded through our island of packed boxes (recall, we are prepping to move) and even delivered my new units into my living room. Even though I was told when I placed my order that the drivers can only drop your appliances off at the curb. Through it all, Danny was warm, friendly and a consummate pro- What a glorious ambassador for Johnny's Appliances!! Johnny's sells a full array of kitchen appliances and even has a sleep center onsite. I enthusiastically endorse them. Pro tip- When you call Johnny's you'll receive a recording encouraging you to TEXT MESSAGE them and they'll retitled your call- certainly an unusual methodology. I would've deducted a point off my review for the challenges this set up entailed ... but driver Danny's extraordinary service saved the day and bumped my review back up to a sterling five!

    Extremely slow delivery/installation, illegal call recording, and terrible customer service are the reasons for my 1-star review of Johnnies Appliances. I had a warranty replacement refrigerator from Maytag that was being fulfilled by Johnnies Appliances. I had a delivery & installation scheduled between 9am and 1pm on August 29th. The delivery arrived at 12:20, and over an hour later at 1:25 I had to ask them to leave to pick up my kids from school. They left the refrigerator in pieces inside and outside of my house. Previously we have had refrigerators delivered and installed by BestBuy that took hades. The delivery/install drivers were poorly trained and did not have the proper equipment to maneuver the refrigerator around a corner into my kitchen. This caused scuffs on the outside edges of the refrigerator and scratches on my concrete steps going into my kitchen. I called customer service after picking up my kids from school asking for their help in getting the staff back here to complete the installation. The customer service agent said they could reschedule for another day with a $65 fee. The customer service rep also said that the 9am to 1pm time frame was for the delivery to arrive, and that installation could take 45 minutes to an hour. I asked for the fee to be waived but they refused. I then asked to speak to a manager. I then spoke with Veronica who informed me that she was aware of my situation and that she listened to my previous calls regarding the scheduling of my appointment. At no time was I informed or aware that Johnnies Appliances was recording my call, THIS IS ILLEGIAL IN CALIFORNIA. Veronica also said it would be a $65 fee to reschedule and finish the installation. I asked her to wave the fee, but she refused. I also asked her to raise this issue with her manager or the Owner. Veronica called me back later this same afternoon and said the Owner now wants to charge a $200 fee to reschedule the installation which I refused. I told Veronica that I was missing screws for the door hinges, but she denied that her staff had them. I ended up having to go purchase my own screws to complete the installation myself. I would not recommend anyone use this business for delivery or installation of appliances, their delivery drivers are not trained enough and do not have the correct equipment to move and install appliances. Customer service illegally records your calls without any notification, and their customer service is unwilling to take the necessary steps to fix a situation that they caused. I am in the process of filing a complaint with Maytag as Johnnies Appliances is a distributor for them.

    I highly recommend this appliance place! Guisselle's customer is amazing and she was so helpful and knew exactly what I was looking for. The moving guys were so friendly and hooked everything up fast and efficiently. On top of everything it didn't cost us an arm and a leg to purchase from them.

She said they did, and that she could have a tech to me in less than an hour!! Rudy showed up about 40 minutes later, and was able to very quickly diagnose a faulty fan that he was able to fix just as fast. He was polite and efficient, and he didn't try to upsell us on anything. A refreshing professional. I will continue to make SoCal my first choice for any appliance needs for sure.

It consolidates all of the returns and open boxes for the many Best Buys in the area into one big open warehouse area, allowing consumers to actually have choices for product if they are willing to purchase 'used'. I really appreciate the concept, and ended up making purchases on the first trip (which is rare for me). Many of us are used to seeing 'used' merchandise heavily discounted at Best Buy once in a while. These are items that have been removed from their factory packaging, either to be used as demos or to be installed at a consumer's home. Instead of sending returned items back to the manufacturer, Best Buy will sometimes try to sell them as 'open', at heavily discounted prices. Like most good retailers, Best Buy has gotten really good at sharing accurate on-hand inventory data to their consumers. One can check what inventory is at what location, even for an outlet. My wife has been wanting a certain refrigerator/freezer pair when we remodeled our kitchen, so when she discovered many of them were marked as available in the (somewhat) nearby outlet, we decided to make a visit. The building is clearly marked as a 'Best Buy OUTLET', and had plenty of parking. Once you enter, you recognize it as a big open space, with appliances just scattered around. Different appliances groupings are put together, but within that group, they are scattered with no clear system (e.g. different brands can be far apart, and the same exact refrigerator model can be three or four different places). By far the largest grouping was for refrigerators and washer/dryers (almost 1/2 of the space). We were looking for a particular induction stove as well, but they didn't have any. They do sell TVs, but didn't find many. There are a few friendly associates to help, but the expectation is that you know what you want. So questions are mainly around finding the inventory. It was also made clear that what you saw, was what you get...so any missing shelves or accessories would not be replaced. It actually produced almost an auction type of effect, where one could contemplate things like 'there is a missing shelf...is it worth the extra $100 for a complete unit, or can we just order the shelf separately'. It's definitely the opposite of going to an appliance superstore, where the folks work on commission. This is one example where doing research on-line is expected but making the final purchase requires a visual inspection, especially since the different prices depend on it. We were lucky to find many returned items for the products we wanted, so were able to inspect quite a few of them. The prices varied greatly, from 35% to almost 50% for a couple. The associate mentioned that there is no clear reason why one unit might be quite a bit more marked...it could be because of condition, but also how long it has been sitting around (we noticed that for our refrigerator, there were different year models available, with the older model being more discounted). They do delivery here to a localized area, for a flat $100 (no matter how many products you purchase). You check out like any other best buy, and had a little issue with my credit card to get past the fraud detection (best buys are a popular retailer for credit card thieves). To make sure you are getting the exact unit that you want, the associate will walk back with you to mark the unit (and also to make sure another customer won't claim it). The unit is moved to a warehouse, from where it will be stored until day of delivery. It is very similar to other Best Buys, in that the associates will push their credit card, extended warranty, and paid loyalty program. Much of their return policy is the same. One difference is that the manufacturers warranty can be different for open box items, and I was told I needed to call them directly about it (which I will do). So definitely some risk there, but imo worth it to save quite a bit of money. Update on 6/20/2025: Contacted Frigidaire directly, and after a consultation with their legal, notified me that their manufacturer's warranty is not valid for open-box items. That's a game changer, and I think Best Buy is being a bit deceitful here, in just stating that you have to contact a store associate, who then either states incorrectly that it is covered, or more accurately stating that you need to contact the manufacturer. Makes perfect sense if buying from a store like Big Lots...but not best buy. But even with the warranty, we still saved money...so 3 stars it is.

    Hello Steve Appliance,…read more I wanted to let you know that the contractor you recommended to me through our Yelp conversation, Frank, has been very unprofessional throughout this process. Frank provided me with a quote of $1,800 on June 8, 2026, for my popcorn ceiling removal project. We discussed the scope of work multiple times to ensure we were on the same page, and the appointment was confirmed for June 19, 2026. Based on that agreement, I stopped looking for other contractors and arranged my schedule around the project. However, the night before the scheduled start date, Frank informed me that he would not perform the work unless I paid $2,500 instead of the originally agreed $1,800. When I asked for an explanation, Frank stated that he thought I would be giving him additional projects in the future, such as electrical work, flooring, and other home improvement jobs. While I may have mentioned that I have other projects around the house, I never agreed to hire him for those projects, nor was the $1,800 quote presented as being dependent on receiving future work. Our discussions and the Yelp referral were specifically for the popcorn ceiling removal project. If the quoted price depended on additional future projects, that should have been clearly communicated before the quote was given and before the appointment was confirmed. I feel it is unfair and unprofessional to increase the price by $700 less than 24 hours before the scheduled start date after we had already agreed on the project terms and date. I wanted to bring this situation to your attention because Frank was recommended through your Yelp communication, and I hope you can help review this matter and provide a fair resolution as soon as possible.
