We were riding around Saturday afternoon and needed some lunch. But we didn't want typical "fast food" lunch, so I remembered this place was open over near Rocky Mountain High School. We went through the drive-thru; the menu is a little farther up in the lane than you would imagine, and then you order at the window where you would also pick up your food. We opted for the 2 slices and a drink deal for $7.50. We got a slice of cheese and a slice of sausage (which was sausage, pepperoni and mushroom). And it. was. delicious. It was a really large piece, that New York style where it's got a thinner base crust. And it was cheesy and the toppings were fabulous. There was a little bit of spice/heat coming from something - the sausage or the pepperoni or the sauce, not sure? - but not a lot, just a tad. The drink we got was gigantic - she said they had run out of medium cups, so she gave us the large. The service, the timing, and the food were fantastic. Totally going back here. read more

My husband and I choose a new Friday date night dinner place on Yelp every week (find it on Yelp, read reviews while eating because they are entertaining, then review our experience) and Johnny Bronx is where we landed tonight! What we bought and what it cost: We were excited to order by the slice, as we love variety. In total, we ordered 4 individual slices, 1 order garlic bread, 1 order meatballs, and 1 large rootbeer. Our total came to about $27, plus a $5 tip. At first, I was shocked at the price but when we received our order, it all made sense. The Eats: the slices are HUGE. Thin and crunchy crust, tasty sauce and toppings, and a perfect cheese/crust/topping ratio. Great pizza overall. The garlic bread is made to order and ours was a little underdone, but honestly I really enjoyed it like that. Buttery and flavorful with tomato sauce on the side. Wonderful. The meatballs were good and so flavorful with cheese and sauce, but at this point, there's no room! LOL We ordered a ton of food. Customer Service: Polite and to the point, which I appreciate. Answered the two questions I had, pleasant attitude, and all of our food was out in five or six minutes after ordering and paying. Overall: swing by and grab a slice and the garlic bread! Unfortunately, I have only been twice. Johnny Bronx is over of the best fast pizza places in the area. There is only other pizza place that is as good, but much slower and more expensive. Johnny Bronx is a small drive-in pizza place. They have minimal outdoor seating if you want to relax there. I would highly recommend eating either there in your car, or eating at over if their tables. To often hot pizza sitting in boxes add steam and makes the crust flimsy. By eating it right away, the crust is crunchy as it should be. They have their common slices already premade so when you order, they throw the slide in the oven to reheat. This process can make the drive-thru slow, so just be patient-your reward is coming. As I mentioned above, this is over of the best spots. There are other items on the menu, which I plan on trying soon. Some of these items are, meatballs, pasta and cheese bread. read more

If you like thin crust NY style pizza then give this place a try you will not be disappointed. Also, I love that they have a drive thru window to pick up your pizza. It's nice for the Idaho winters. UPDATE 10/24. Now reopened after closing on about 10/18, just a week-ish after original opening on about 10/10. No kidding. Customer demand for their pizza (by slice or whole pie), pasta bowls, sub sandwiches and meatball eats was so high in the first week of business that the two local nice guys who came up with the Johnny Bronx concept found themselves being bought out of food every day well before the end of the day. They closed for a few days to consider how to produce more of their eats to meet customer demand and are back at it now, having added an additional pizza oven and hired more staff. My recent visit suggests they still have process kinks to iron out. Like training the new staff and fixing the systems to make it possible for them to take more than one order at a time. (Example, the computer was in use for staff member on phone taking a call in order, so another person was unable to take ours for plain cheese slice until that long order call was completed.) They'll get there. These are good guys working hard to get it right. Expect some order speed-bumps and be patient and you'll be happier, I think. THE DRILL: Walk up to the window in front or drive around to the drive through at side to order or pick up an order you have called in. Whole pies must be picked up at the walk up window at front. There is no indoor seating. They may add a couple of outdoor tables near the order window in the future. For now, there is a long bench near the order window to sit and nosh. They do not deliver. TIMING CAN BE EVERYTHING: Proximity to a local high school has high student turn out at lunch - you may want to plan around that. As school adjourns in mid afternoon seems the Dutch Brothers down the street and neither Johnny Bronx nor next door neighbor Sonic get the student crowds at that time of day. KISS MENU: Keeping the menu simple and sticking to the Italian NY concept lane is really smart. He gave thumbs up for a slice being flexible to fold to eat - essential he says - and folding a plain cheese slice delivered the little drips of grease he says should go with NY pizza. (For me that's not-so-much an advantage.) Demerits from Brooklyner husband for Johnny Bronx offering Ranch dressing-sauce as a side order with pizza and calling spicy Ranch "mob sauce" doesn't get them off the hook. (They'd be floating face down in Sheepshead Bay if they tried to peddle that with pizza in Brooklyn, he says.) And yet, in Idaho it seems Ranch dressing with pizza is a thing so if it is your thing they have it here. (I don't judge.) He awards extra points to them for avoiding pineapple and ham as topping options. And big applause for not a chicken wing or cinnamon knot in sight. WHATT-ARE-YOUSE-KIDDIN'-ME?: He literally said this to find their "Italian" sausage is a mixed beef and pork product and not all pork as the 'real thing" should be. GENIUS IN NAME & MARKETING: Inserting Bronx in the name to make folks wonder if the owners have NY origins (they don't) is a great idea. They even tout, as part of well crafted marketing plan, that they use NY-style filtered water in the dough. Brilliant. I mean that in a good way. (Grimaldi's does the same, but they take it even further and say Brooklyn style water.) All of their marketing materials, including the printed take-away menus, pivot off of a fresh and fun nod to the New York food thing. PARKING: Several angle in parking spots in paved lot surrounding the take out / drive through building. ACCESSIBILITY: One van accessible stall with access to sidewalk leading to order window. Really liked it! I'm from Philly and this pizza tastes like home. Crust was right, slice was perfectly floppy and foldable, and the sauce was great -- not too sweet, not too acidic. It's kind of a haul from where I live for a takeout-only place (had a hot slice in the car but the rest was pretty cold by the time we got home) so I hope they open another shop deeper into Boise. read more

I stopped in for a couple slices from the walk up window and was impressed with the quick service despite the drive-through line being busy. One bite, it's a pretty decent crisp crust without much dough flavor. Really tasty pepperoni with nice spice to it. Buffalo chicken wasn't my favorite-I would've liked more hot sauce and some blue cheese crumble or a drizzle of blue cheese dressing. I didn't care for the ranch-it tasted just like hidden Valley from the grocery store. I LOVE NY style pizza, even if I've never been to NY. Big, floppy, greasy slices...just love it. So, I was happy to see this place relatively close to me and excited to try it. It's a small place with a drive thru window, and a nice little staff in the window. I ordered a 2-slice combo and a side of garlic bread. Decent price for what you get. Also pretty decent-sized slices. First thing I tried was the sausage pizza. Really good. With both slices, I loved the NY feel of the pizza...floppy and greasy and just good. Great red sauce they put on there with good toppings. Kind of wish there were more toppings on the sausage slice, but it was super good so I can't complain much. Now as for the special of the day, the "Blue Lady" I believe it was called...holy freakin wow. What amazing flavor. Jalapeño, blue cheese crumbles, some type of sweet sauce, and a bunch of other things that I can't remember, but wow...honestly, and no I don't take this lightly, this was one of the best slices of pizza I've ever had in my life. It was roughly perfect. So much flavor on a perfectly textured slice. I mean, good lord...it was so good, I can't even take it thinking about it. And again, I don't say this lightly. My coworkers and I were doing our traditional pizza lunch for our office and they all agreed that they should order delivery with Johnny Bronx because it's delicious NY style pizza. I haven't had Johnny Bronx's Pizza before but having had good pizza from NY, I wanted to get my hopes up with this one. When the pizzas came in the office I was not disappointed! The Pizzas are true , thin crust, NY style pizza that you fold in the in the middle to eat. I got a slice of pepperoni and ham and one chicken Alfredo pizza slice. That first bite of the pepperoni and ham had going for more! It was super delicious and I knew I was going to visit Johnny Bronx's sometime again. Having lived in New Jersey and eaten a ton of pizza, in both New Jersey and Brooklyn/Manhattan, it was a good representation of a New York slice. Ok, so I have been to NYC many times and these guys nailed it! It seriously is up there with the best NY Pizzerias! I have had multiple specials as they rotate every 2 weeks, they come up with some crazy a combos but they work, some work really really well! Like super thin lemon and hot honey etc - what? There are a lot of pizza joints in the Boise/Meridian area, but not many are what I would classify as exceptional. So we were super excited to try some "good" local pizza. We drove up to the window and ordered 2 slices. The first thing we noticed was the price seemed high for a slice of pizza - 3.75+, but we thought OK, it is probably a huge slice like New York size or Blondies. So I proceeded to order a slice and chose one from the menu and asked to add Jalapeno peppers. The girl at the window said "you can't do that". I was under the impression that you ordered a slice and picked from the ingredients that are on the menu. She said you can only do that if you call ahead. Seriously? We were disappointed in the size of the slices, which I would classify as medium at best, and to list ingredients on the menu for a drive-through only joint but then require you to call ahead to get a custom slice is a bit silly. In addition my wife's slice was burned on the bottom. There are other places for pizza in the area that are much better quality and reasonably priced. I certainly would not recommend this overpriced disappointment for good pizza. read more

This pizza joint has to be the worst pizza I've ever eaten at. Why? Well let's just say me and my wife pass it on the way to work, and we are foodies and love to try new places to eat. However, me personally I've eaten food from all around the world and west to east coast. To me pizza that comes in a place like this, I would've expected it to be so much more better. And you must be wondering by now what In the world is this guy talking about. Well... when we got there after work, we were let's just say the least hungry after working an 8hr shift of all physical work. We got the 20" 1 topping Italian sausage pizza for a whopping 17.95$ or close to that price but we paid a total of 21$ and some change for this pizza. Which is honestly is a crap ton for a pizza even for this size. Costcos is about the same size btw. However, more to the story we order it and pay for. And wait for a good 30 mins to get it. As we got home, prepare the table and start eating this pizza. Immediately me and my wife looked at each other and started questioning everything about the pizza. To the ultra thin crust, from barely any pizza sauce I can say this is probably the worst pizza I've ever eaten in my life. Now before you so oh look at the privileged guy complaining about food when people have none around the world trust me I know. I rather eat frozen oven made pizza for 1.99$ from winco then ever go here again and even recommend this place to anyone. The pizza all in all was -dry over cooked -too thin -toppings were non existent and artificial tasting -EXPENSIVE In a summary of this, I will never ever go back here again, not even if I had a "bad experience" the price alone for a pizza like this should be not just good but memorable to say the least. This pizza establishment has some of the best pizza I've ever had and top notch customer service. On National Pizza Day we ordered by phone and were quoted about an hour wait. We showed up to pick up our pizza and ended up waiting an additional 45 minutes. Despite waiting an extensive amount of time, several of the team members were very apologetic and made the situation right. Highly recommended and will definitely keep coming back! read more
