I grew up going here, and I'm completely disappointed in what this establishment has turned to. We came with my in laws who had never been before, and the last time I came it was also disappointing, but I was hoping for a better experience. Did I get that? Absolutely not. It took them FOREVER to get our food out to us, like over and hour and a half, and normally if it were incredibly busy I'd understand the delay, but there was only us, and two other smaller tables that had their food already. When we did get our food, it looked completely inedible. Our food looked like it had been sitting out for a while, and on top of that all of our food was cold. I couldn't even finish eating it. Tasted like it came out of a cheap frozen meal box. The waitress forgot to bring us anything that we asked for, she came back several times to ask us how our meal was and each time we reminded her about grabbing ketchup, or more bread. We never got our ketchup or bread. And last but not least, it's incredibly dirty in there. I table looked like it hadn't been cleaned and if it had, it was not done well. The bathroom is horrendous, there was even a gross leaky toilet in one of the stalls and just trash everywhere. I'm appalled at what this restaurant has become. Our Friday weekly lunch group went to Johnny Carino's Restaurant in Idaho Falls. I had never been in this place before. I was anxious to eat here as I grew up back east eating quite regular pasta dishes before I found out .that I'm gluten intolerant only just in mid Aug. . A friend recommended I try the steak & pasta. I ordered the steak medium-well & pasta dish with red sauce. It was just totally delicious. The server was told I was gluten-informed so when they brought my side salad I was really glad to see there was no croutons. The penne pasta with red sauce was great too. We celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary here. My family is NOT small so this is a big ask of any restaurant. Lori was our server- Erica was the manager. Ugh- that's all I can say right now. Really?....my son insisted on going here for his bday........if we go in when the manager-Chris- is in, its always amazing! But we went during dinner time. We ordered an appetizer, drinks, (bread and oil), and the main dishes. After 44 minuets, everything was delivered at once! We sat 5 feet from the delivery window, and watched our appetizer sit under the heat lamp the whole time. We also saw the manager- pick up plate after plate, even pushing the appetizer out of the way, to deliver servers dishes. So I called the manager over and explained what we saw. She than told us our appetizer was supposed to be served cold (Queso and pasta chips). Interesting considering we've never eaten them cold before. We've ordered this appetizer half a dozen times this year and not once has it been served ice cold. She also said she would talk to the server about giving us our drinks, our appetizer, our bread and oil, and our main dishes, all served at once. We finished our salads ate a couple bites of this and that and we sent back the appetizer without touching it. The waitress as well as a manager was informed it was my sons birthday. So about 65 minutes into the meal, the waitress produced the ticket and then turned to my son, put her hand on his shoulder and said "by the way... Happy birthday". And walked away. We were both floored. We left a note for the manager to understand in writing, our frustration-and, as we were pulling out of the parking lot, she called us. She said "if you would've told me there was an issue we could've fixed it... ".......I guess I wasn't present during our conversation we've had 20 to 30 minutes earlier. Lol. The manager stated that my son should've gotten a free birthday cake... At which time I told her "yes we knew about that - and we thought that he would have... But it never happened...". Wow, the food and the service was so bad. Our waitress looked like she didn't give two shits about anything and definitely doesn't belong in the service industry. It took almost an hour to place order and she only had 4 tables. She seemed like the last place she wanted to be was there. The food tasted like it came out of boxes. Salads weren't fresh. We weren't asked if we wanted refills on drinks let alone if we needed anything. Tonight we came in and were seated in the bar area with two kids. The whole staff and service was bad. Our waitresses name was Chloe. She didn't ever ask us if we needed anything and could barley ever get her attention. A hostess was walking by so we got her attention and asked if she could get us some straws. She rudely said you can ask your waitress for that, and walked away quickly. We had to ask two other servers for things that we needed. The food was so terrible for the price. The Alfredo was a soup instead of a sauce and tasted straight out of a jar. The bow tie chicken festival pasta was definitely not worth the price. The onions were raw. Gross. I just went in and got an order to go. They had said it would be 15-20 minutes when I called it in but I waited that long while sitting at the bar. They place the to go orders on a table between the bathrooms. I watched the bartender make a martini and spill it all over the sides of the cup and pool on the counter. He didn't even wipe the glasses off! When I got home I was rather repulsed by our food. If anyone can remember Fazolis- it was 1000 times better! November 14, 2022 My boyfriend and I dined at Johnny Carinos in Ammon, Idaho. Cannot remember our server's name but I think it may be Josh? When we first arrived we were initially supposed to be given hot bread. He didn't bring it. We had to ask and we waited for about 10 minutes and another party of 6 people arrived and was seated next to us. He immediately brought them bread. We asked for the second time and when he brought it he actually tossed it to us in a rush without saying a word and he swiftly walked away. After we ordered he brought my boyfriend's salad and in the same manner he tossed it to him and when to quickly to the other table. He was extremely inattentive and ignorant to our needs throughout our dining experience. I believe he was more concerned with the needs of the table of 6 so he could get a good tip. When we were served, my boyfriend began eating his shrimp scampi and found the sauce was just liquid in the bottom of his dish. It was more of a watery soup than a rich sauce.It was extremely unappealing and he was disgusted and couldn't finish his dish. He sent it back and wouldn't reorder. I ordered the chicken parmesan and it was extremely dry and crusty overly smothered in marinara sauce. My boyfriend and I ate some of my dish but wouldn't finish because it was unappealing and gross. Our server took forever to give us our check and took forever to take payment. We left completely unsatisfied and very disappointed. Our server comped my boyfriend's meal. I should have sent mine back as well. Paying $37 for my meal not including tip was extremely expensive and totally unworth it. Oh Idaho. Christmas Eve in IF and we found ourselves at JC's... the dehydrated garlic chips in the oil dispenser proved to both be perplexing and heartburn-inducing. Moving onto the pizza, the waitress strongly discouraged anyone from ordering due to the "extra wait" involved. One in the group had to defy authority and ordered a pizza anyway. Well, alrighty then! Philly dip was okay, not necessarily memorable. Others said their food was good, but several in the party also have non-globetrotting palates, so take that for what it's worth. I remember that the menu used to have a lot more options, I don't know if they condensed it because it was too difficult to keep up with the orders or if this business is slowly dying. We went on a Friday night, and it was DEAD. There were maybe three other tables being served. It was pretty close to closing time, but we weren't planning on lingering, and you'd think that this place would be hopping. The service was good. The man serving us seemed to be undergoing training, but he performed his job adequately. Our food was fine. I got the cheese-stuffed ravioli, which seemed to be the only stuffed pasta on the menu, and it was fine. Not great, not terrible, just fine. Let me share a brief history of my experiences and family experiences with Johnny Carino and then I will wrap it up with my most recent experience. Because we usually went or had to eat here for special occasions, I remember very well how Johnny Carino's failed in service and in food. Trip 1 Dinner: Was seated, water slapped on the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" The waiter was back promptly in an hour later, took our table's order and an hour later the food arrived. Mine was cold and they tried to reheat it, resulting in overcooking the pasta Trip 2 Lunch: Seated promptly, again water was slapped on to the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" 50 minutes later the waitress came back, took our orders and 45 minutes later the food arrived. My dad's chicken was frozen in the center, not cold, still frozen. At least the service was quicker this time. Trip 3 Group Dinner for 60 people: With reservations for the group area, people started arriving about 30 minutes before the reservation. Sixty people waited outside for two or more hours while the manager came out and assure us we were just about to be seated. Apparently the party before us was having a really good time. The manager then came out and told us, "Well, I just can't ask the people who reserved it for the earlier time slot to leave!" Our group was forced to go to Silzzler because they were the only restaurant that could accommodate sixty people at such a late notice. They had everything we needed in to sit in 30 minutes. Most recent-- Dinner: Was seated, and as always, water slapped on the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" an hour later he did come back and an hour later the food arrived, for my brother, sister, mom and myself. My Dad's arrived 30 minutes later. It was a salad and soup. And to tradition, the soup was cold. Yes, I did end-up going to this restaurant many times because of its perception as being a nice, fancy place to dine, resulting in celebrations and events take place here that would have been rude not to attend. Otherwise, I do not have the patients for this type of service and undercooked or not cooked food. it makes me question what goes on into the kitchen. I thought it was important to share my previous visits (even though they are retrospective) along with my most current visit. I also realized that I talked more about service than food, but even with the one meal that was okay (Chicken Marsala) the service failures far outweigh any okay food served. At the price they charge, food shouldn't be just okay. I would recommend you not to spend your money here and if you do, I hope your experience isn't as ridiculous as mine has been. read more

Ah, Johnny's! Will people ever stop comparing you to the Olive Garden? The answer is no, but there is a good reason why. You are both chain restaurants serving similar cuisines at similar prices. You poor guy; you'll never be as well known as the OG because you don't stuff horribly fake commercials down our throats every commercial break of every television program that airs on television. But for that, I love you and support you Johnny. For my family, Johnny's is a winner hands down in the OG v. JC debate. We find Carino's menu to be more flavorful and varied, their waitstaff to be more pleasant and attentive, and their wait to be a half hour shorter than the Olive Garden across town. They should win a prize for that alone! Oh and the fresh bread with roasted garlic and oil is worth a visit on its own. Frankly, there aren't a lot of "fine dining" choices in the IF. I know it is a chain, but the food was pretty decent last time we went there.The speed of service was fine.The choice of beverages or lack thereof was fairly disappointing.Even though allegedly the place is Italian or is positioning itself as such in their wine list the only wine that sounded remotely Italian was some generic Chianti.THAT WAS IT.Why would I want to pay 8x times for some wine from Washington or California ? On the other hand I would gladly pay extra for some Italian Salice Salentino,Primitivo,Negroamaro or Nero d'avola.Was not an option. Trying to find any decent Italian or Sicilian wine in Idaho Falls might represent another challenge though. We waited for our appetizers for 45 minutes. The waiter kept telling us that it was on its way, while the other customers who were seated after us got their meals. We finally just told the waiter to get our food to go. He said he was sorry and he would take the appetizers off the bill. When we finally got our food to go the appetizers were not there. I used to love dinning at this Resturant. It was an excellent Italian Resturant, with cute quirks and a great atmosphere. But things have changed. They used to have small artisan loaves, now they have bread chunks. The only good thing about that was the server kept bringing them out, if we asked. They don't have cloth napkins anymore. That makes me feel like they are being cheap. Their chicken Alfredo tasted blah. Like noddles in butter. And the new colors they painted on the building make me feel like I am going into a Mexican Resturant, not an Italian one. I have always loved Johnny's but today was a disappointment :( It wasn't very busy so we were seated right away but it took a while to receive our drinks and place our order. The bread and dipping oil is spectacular so 2 thumbs up on that!! But--We had to ask for more bread and refills on water. The menu is always changing, so if you are craving something, chances are, you won't be able to find it again. I had the lemon vege chicken or something, but the noodles were so bland, they had NO sauce or flavor. I had a few bites then asked to get it packaged up to take home. I wanted to add my own flavor to make it edible. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained.
