Great Italian style restaurant love their French bread with the olive oil dip. Always great service here. We went on Prom night and they was slammed. And we had a group of 12, but we figured every restaurant in town was busy so we hunkered down and actually they got us in about 25 minutes. I just love the feel of this place, feels very homey to me. I've eaten here several times over the years. Their starter salads are excellent. Most of my family always chooses Olive Garden but to me this place is waay better. My favorite is the spicy chicken & shrimp. Tonight I had the triple seafood pasta dish. It was real good but not a big fan of the lil chunks of scallions though but the shrimp and calamari was fine. The lil woman had the 16 layer lasagna. Went here because years ago had heard how good it was. Well, it might have been good years ago but not now. Daughter and I ordered Seafood Alfredo but neither of us could eat it. The Alfredo sauce tasted like it came out of a jar and then they added water to it. Husband ordered Spaghetti and said it was okay but not worth what we paid for it. $72.00 for the 3 of us and only one meal was edible. I was trying to decide between the spicy shrimp and chicken pasta and the shrimp scampi...and went for the shrimp scampi. The food came with herbed bread and garlic oil, which was good, but the pasta itself was ridiculously bland. I felt like I was eating pasta in oil. Finding places to eat in the Idaho Falls area is a bit challenging. You're limited in your options, and so driving to Ammon for food is not such a bad idea. It's the next town over. Johnny Carino's serves a decent variety of Italian. Reminds me of a less fancy version of the Olive Garden, and even the Olive Garden isn't all that fancy. The servings are generous. I didn't finish my plate. Packed it to go, but left it at the restaurant. Oops! I ate at a different restaurant in the following week for lunch, and had the same waiter from Johnny Carino's. Have you ever sent food back at a restaurant only to have the manager lie to your face and tell you the cook wasn't having a tantrum? First of all, I'm sitting right in front of the kitchen, not only can I hear him, but I can see him! We weren't sending it back to be assholes, we were sending it back because a severe mushroom allergy. The extra vegetables were a mistake on your end as we didn't ask for them. I received dirty looks from this kid as I watched him be a prick. The manner in which his manager defended him was insulting. The fact that the waitress apologized for both the cook and the manager's ridiculousness stating that she heard him as well softened the blow just a little, but Carrino's can get bent. That's a hard pass from here on out. The margarita and Bellini were pretty delightful. The manager and cook could use some classes in customer service. What a disappointment. read more

I don't know why this place is only getting a 2 star rating. The food here is awesome. First time I went here was with a large group the day before a friend's wedding. Excellent food, excellent service. Ok so the 2nd time I went with a different large group, there was some service issues, but the manager made sure to make up for it with a few $5 gift coupons for EVERYONE at the table. The 3rd time I went was with my husband on a date night. The food was delicious and the service was on point. Italian Nachos were amazing, Italian Soda was sooo good, and their wedge salad was the best salad I have eaten anywhere. Not dessert people, we don't usually resist the chocolate cake, a three person serving with just the right measure of dark chocolate and texture to take us over our cake-resistance. This used to be a decent restaurant with great service and fairly good but not great food. We have eaten here many times over the years. This was officially our LAST time as the food and atmosphere have both slowly gone to hell over the past few years. When we walked in my first impression was the dingy stripped down decor topped off with filthy, sticky tables. Kind of reminds me of any number of greasy spoon places i have been. Definitely not classy in any way. Was this supposed to be an improvement? Then there was the overwhelming stench of dirty dishes infused throughout the restaurant. I couldn't smell anything cooking over this smell. We should have left immediately but gave it a shot anyway. Big mistake. Our server took our order and brought the usual bread and oil. The bread was decent but the oil was just blah. My wife ordered fish and I got the sampler since it has been good in the past. We got our food in a few minutes. This was the only plus. My food tasted like an over cooked microwave dinner. Lasagna dry and tasteless. The chicken parmesean was so tough I couldn't chew it. The fish was old tasting and greasy from being cooked at too low a temperature. My wife told the server who got the manager. The manager came over and proceeded to lecture us for a full five minutes about how fish is supposed to taste and we basically didn't know what we were talking about. Excuse me but I have been eating fish since well before this moron was even born. I've never seen this kind of behavior from a manager before and I'm going to contact corporate about her attitude. She either needs intensive retraining or should be reassigned to the back to help out the dishwashers. They seem to need the help judging by the smell of the place. read more

Carino's Italian Kitchen. Best to upgrade service by going to McDonalds up the street.... Went to dinner and a movie with my daughter. Prices were high, food marginal, the service started mediocre and then tubed. I felt like I was being talked down to the whole time; I guess I wasn't as appealing or as smart as the young group at the next table. My daughter asked for more bread. The server tossed it into the bread basket without a word and went onto the other table. Later, I asked for a to-go box and after waiting quite a while it came flying down in front of me onto my plate. What's with all this throwing?? By the way, I'm thinking you only get one glass of water so make it last. I unfortunately drank mine up mid-way through the meal. My daughter, bless her heart, shared hers with me. Stopped in for an early dinner while in town for the eclipse. Nearly empty, but it was an off time. Friendly servers. The lightly dressed caesar was just about perfect. The accompanying prosecco was tasty, but a bit flat. I had the rigatoni bolognese that was very good, but had an off putting orange tint. The chianti was good, but way too warm. Why is it that decent restaurants have sure a hard time serving wine at the right temperature. We went there the other night to have dinner. My wife ordered the pecan chicken salad and the waiter brought her a bed of spinach topped with fried chicken covered with pecans. They charge $11 for a bed of spinach. I ordered the butternut ravioli. They drench that in Alfredo sauce and put some blue cheese on top. The flavors do not go together. The waitress was nice and did her job but the food is beyond awful. They no longer offer salmon and we felt like the cooks at Rumbi could prepare a better meal and for half the cost. Oh Jonny...what a wonderful experience at your restaurant. We went to Olive Garden but the wait was almost an hour so we decided to try Carino's. I ordered some dish that had pesto sauce and it was taking a really long time to make..the waitress came over and apologized for the wait and explained that it was because the pesto sauce was taking a long time to make. "Well shoot if it's taking too long just use some other sauce" but the waitress insisted that the pesto was the best and well worth the wait. So we stuck with it. About 10 minutes later she walked passed our table and said "Sorry it's taking so long, I just told them to put marinara on there instead!" and then walked away... Dangit, Rose (I don't remember her name, we'll call her Rose). How are you gonna sell me on some dankalicious pesto sauce and then change my mind for me just minutes later? Rose may not be the best waitress, but if I recall correctly she's studying political science...sounds like a great fit. When our food finally arrived, the manager came by and apologized and said "Sorry, the pesto is finally finished, but it was taking too long so we had them put marinara on there instead...it's much better this way." Wait a second...the pesto is finished? But I'm still getting marinara? We waited all this time for the pesto, and it's finally finished..but you went and made an executive decision to give me marinara anyway? And whoa, you're saying that the marinara is better? Rose told me the Pesto was better... I mean if you're gonna lie to your customers you gotta at least tell the same lie..that's deceit 101. Anyway, the food was decent. We aren't very picky eaters, but the food was alright. If I had gotten the pesto..maybe this paragraph would be longer. The manager felt bad for our experience so during our meal he came by and said "hey don't fill up too much on dinner, I'll buy you dessert. And not the single portion size, the BIG dessert for you to share." Alright, good for him. A bad experience and comping us a dessert. We were thinking a bad experience would be turned into an "Eh it wasn't that bad" experience. They brought the dessert..a slice of pie. A tiny slice of pie. We're pretty skinny and there was no way I was sharing that slice. Two anorexic women couldn't share that slice of pie after a full thanksgiving day meal. I think the cherry on top of the pie weighed more than the rest of the pie. So, in conclusion, the wait was long, the food was "meh," the help wasn't that helpful, and you're better off walking to Orange Leaf for dessert. read more

If you are new to the Idaho Falls/Ammon area, or just passing through on vacation, and plan to catch a movie at the nearby theater before or after a meal, and have clicked your way through the photos of Johnny Carino's in search of a charming dining experience based solely on the fantastic photos 'portrayed'. Or you haven't been to Johnny Carino's in a while, be forewarned, this isn't what you will be walking into, nor the place you remember. It is now a Budget version of Johnny Carino's. Once upon a time, there would be a friendly face to greet you as you entered. Now you will need to wait for the 'hostess' to finish her conversation with a random employee, before she acknowledges your presence, and makes you feel you are an inconvenience. If you enjoy or ever enjoyed a pleasant wait staff, or a glimpse of the wine cellar wall, the interesting photos which hung throughout, those crisp curtains that adorned the cozy nooks, once again, be forewarned, none of this exists. The pleasant atmosphere has been stripped away and replaced with the hostile sounds of the cook staff yelling at the wait staff so loudly it can be heard in the dining area, because there is no longer the cheerful murmurings of conversations, or typical dining room sounds associated with people enjoying their meals and surroundings. The wait staff makes three appearances, once to take your order, once to bring it out, and once to present the bill. Although I personally do not care to have wait staff hover around like drones, I would like to see someone at least once during the meal to see if anything is needed. What once was a warm charming, and lovely Italian Country atmosphere has been stripped away to the bare bones. The intimate and comfortable table and booth arrangements have now been reconfigured to look somewhat like a school cafeteria, or outdoor picnic, covered with a checkered vinyl table coverings befitting a rundown greasy spoon. The interesting photos that once adorned the walls have been replaced with what seems to be from a .99 cent Store prints. Those baskets filled with small warm, browned loaves of bread have been replaced with the same size loaf, yet the loaf has been cut in half, not for convenience sake, but seemingly as a budget cutback. The bread doesn't appear to have ever seen the inside of an oven once it left the factory, and the portion size is somewhat like receiving only one dinner roll to be shared among two or more people. As for my meal? I wasn't that hungry and thought I would go with something light, little did I realize how 'light' it would be. I was presented with what appeared to be the other half of the above mentioned complimentary loaf of bread, so that's where the other half went, it was used to create the "Pronto Bistro 1/2 MARKET CLUB SANDWICH Ham, salami, turkey, olive relish and provolone. Served with Soup, unlimited House or Caesar salad". This was not a "club sandwich", but a very small child's snack, consisting of one thin slice, if that, of some of the meats listed on the menu description. There, at one end of a large oblong plate lay the child-size portion of a sandwich...all alone, pathetic. It was laughable. Not a whisper of a garnish, a tiny sprig of parsley would have been appreciated at that point. Why not just serve it on a paper towel? I was pleased I had saved my tiny salad, and felt compelled to pour next to that pitiful sandwich to give myself the illusion I was getting a meal instead of a snack. The menu definition of unlimited salad was also misleading, it was limited, because we didn't see the waiter again until he brought us the bill, and asked if we needed a box. Really, a box for what, the cutlery, the oversized plate, the empty beverage glass, or the tiny salad bowl? The only thing JC's has now would be there is no longer the once typically long line out the door, nor people waiting to be seated during lunch or dinner, unless you are waiting for the hostess to notice you. What a miserable lunchtime experience. It felt as if we had shown up for the last day of a Going Out of Business sale, complete with angry and unhappy employees. We will not be returning. We now understand why there was a cooks hat thrown unceremoniously on the sidewalk near the front door. read more

Every time I have gone I have had excellent service. The food is delicious and I have never had a bad experience with it. They have delicious Italian sodas that are endless I might add. I have never tasted fettuccine Alfredo that was as good as I had here. It was incredible. Their cream and oil sauces are excellent, but I don't care for their red sauce. I recommend the angel hair artichoke pasta, that is my favorite other than the Alfredo. They are usually quite busy so there can be a wait time but the longest I've ever had is an hour for my food after I arrived. The delicious endless bread and oil and dinner conversation is great to keep you distracted till then. Hope you had as good of an experience as I did! read more

Scrumptious menu choices, friendly/ attentive service and a pleasant atmosphere. We love the bread with garlic oil btw! My family has traveled from southern idaho to this location because they missed Carino's when they lived in florida for the last 5 years. My younger sister who is austistic had to move back to florida and wanted one last meal to share with her family. They had driven a uhaul to move her items to a shipping company in idaho falls and wanted to bring food home, unfortunately she was treated inconsideratly on the phone and in person. She wanted the half off family size to share but was told she cannot put the order in for it because it was 10 min. before the designated time so she put in an order for 2 normal sizes hoping to maybe upgrade them to the family size and pay for the discont price when she arrived at 4pm, but upon arrival she was treated with extreme disrespect from the manager on duty. Rules are rules but I wish this poor young girl could have been treated like a human being she already has enough of a hard time with her disability. I wish there was something nice to say but the unprofessionalism delivered from this group does not merit any return visits. The visit was on Monday Jan. 8th read more

Service was okay. Got our salads before the appetizer. When our entrees finally arrived they were the wrong order. Had to wait again for our original order. Our server did apologize and said it was her mistake. She then offered us free dessert when we were ready. Finally got our food and it had so much cayenne it was barely edible. I had shrimp shells and 2 shrimp that tasted like mold. It was disgusting. When done we ordered dessert but then was told oh no you can only have one. We got one to go and then was charged for it.
