The food was good, but service was abysmal. The place was less than half full on a Friday night, which is unusual for any restaurant at Southpark. We soon found out why. We waited about 10 minutes before a waiter came with menus. Took a further 10 minutes for him to ask us what we wanted to drink and bring bread. We ate bread for a very long time (they didn't bring us more). My dining companion got her dinner a full 10 minutes before I got mine. The waiter forgot I had ordered coffee. Eventually, I got it, and was not offered a refill at any point. Had to ask for the check, as we were being ignored after saying we didn't want dessert. Dinner for two took nearly an hour and a half from being seated to leaving. The people at the next table left because no one came to take their order. They were sitting there with menus and no drinks or bread for at least 15 minutes. Do not recommend. read more

Food was excellent and the bread is to die for! I prefer it to cheesecake factory already. The building is also beautiful, though it was a bit cold I enjoyed the aesthetic. The thing that wowed me the most was the service. Idk why this place has a 2.9 or whatever. This place is 10/10 with service! The staff were super friendly! My server Frank was amazing. He was super kind and gave us all the to-go boxes for our food and drinks that we wanted! He even packed us extra bread and oil. Food was good, service was near excellent. Zebrah, the bartender, was who helped me with my order as well as drinks. I enjoyed the experience as well as conversation with zebrah. She seemed to be somewhat of a gatekeeper or guide to the city of Austin. I would have given 4 stars, however, i witnessed someone in management, Edi (unsure of spelling, likely spelt this way though) attempt to resolve an issue with a customer. He struggled either with understanding or possibly communication, either way, he continued to speak over both the server and client to try to resolve the issue. It seems he (Edi) has forgotten that to listen, as well as understand, is detrimental to conversation and problem solving. I hope the best for the restaurant. I love the spaghetti. read more

Things are slowly getting back up and expect to have to wait to be seated especially on weekends and/or peak times (dinner). Just be ready to be patient! Came in on a Friday evening to see about 8 parties waiting to be seated. We added ourselves to the wait list and even left our phone number to be called. To prevent ourselves from getting eaten alive by mosquitoes outside we decided to wait in our car until we received a call for our seats. After the 20 minutes of waiting I noticed many of the parties waiting to be seated had already got a table. Turns out there might be a cell phone issue in this area as we never got a phone call to come in. Thankfully we had a man, who was about to be seated, give up his booth for us to sit as he admittingly (to us) said he remembered we came in before him. God bless this man as we were able to get seated right away after he vouched for us to the waitstaff. Food was hot and great! We had wonderful service by the bartender who was doing the best job she could considering her entire section was packed! Went to johnny Carino's on January 20 they do not have a vegan option for me but I went with family and an Everything waiter was very cool. The food that I ate was spaghetti and marinara sauce. They did not have any dessert for vegans so the waiter ask is that anything he can do And he went to his general manager and they gave me my entrée free because they didn't have anything for vegans for dessert. Poor experience for my first time there. The food was lack luster and felt bland. I had the chicken Parmesan and it tasted ok. Nothing special and I ended up over paying for ok food. My partner had the ravioli and did not like the taste. We both had the drinks and it felt more sugary than an alcoholic drink should. I went to an anniversary party here. There was about 11 of us and the 4 person crew handled us well. Our food came out in a decent amount of time and I enjoyed my dish. Everyone seemed to like theirs as well. The portions here are big and we filled up on that amazing bread and oil they put out. They couldn't keep that in our table as we inhaled basket after basket. Stopped here for Sunday dinner. Upon entry, there was no host/hostess and the man ahead of us seemed annoyed that he had to wait... the restaurant was moderately busy and he turned to us and said "Good thing we are not hungry...". I was a little worried but out wait to be seated wasn't too long. We sat in the bar area. Our server was super friendly and constantly apologizing about the wait on everything. Everything we had tasted fresh, but our wait was rather extensive. apparently others have had this experience. My husband And I did the couples meal for $19.99 each- we got stuffed mushrooms, chicken Parmesan, and spicy chicken and shrimp. Server checked on us frequently and was very upbeat. The food itself was fresh, tasty but nothing overwhelming amazing. I would dine here again but for price and taste (and time) I am sure there are other Italian options that are better. If I've been more disappointed in food and service before it was still 10 times better than this. I am by no means a wine connoisseur but even the Cabernet I had was disgusting. I am including a photo of my pasta I got when I was admittedly hung over and it is definitely the worst presentation I have ever seen. My friend and I paid for everything but what you see in the picture is what was dropped on the table minus maybe 2 or 3 noodles. There were no attempts by our server to remedy our disgust and not even a question asked if we even enjoyed the food in front of us. I definitely wasn't expecting the cuisine to be as tasty for as it would be in Italy but I would have appreciated it to have at least tasted like food. We ordered "family style" and had it delivered. The amount of food for a "family" was laughable. There were enough noodles for my 5 year old daughter. Forget about the rest of us. We each got a tiny piece of chicken. Also ordered the "family" salad which was some iceberg lettuce for two people and a minuscule amount of dressing. Good thing we had plenty at home. Oh, and can't forget the tiny tiny loaf of bread that's supposed to be for a "family". Great food just short on staff. I really believe this is an owner issue and not the workers issue. They are running all over the place trying to keep this place alive. The kitchen staff is cooking, taking orders, cleaning stables and serving while still being nice and doing their best. The owner needs to get more people on board or pay these guys more. They are putting up with angry customers and working 3 jobs at once. Great food overall and would recommend. Hope this place finds more staff. read more

When we sat down and ordered our wine for the meal, the waitress stated "she could not serve us until she was able to verify our I.D.!" We said that at 75 years old and 76 years old that the TABC states that "No person over the age of 21 is not required to show I.D." so we showed her the TABC statement on the TABC site! She said she was told to not serve anyone without a check! We asked for the manager, he came and recognized us as a regular and greeted us but then told us that the "Main Office has ordered that ALL customers must be checked!" I showed him the TABC website and he said he had no choice but to follow the home office edicts! In light of the tyranny of the COVID-19 illegal edicts, we told him that we do not have to "fall in line" with this edict! Carinos is not the only place to eat and we will not be coming back to Carinos after 15 years of patronage! I guess is that Carinos cannot hire intelligent enough personnel that discern that grey hair does not need an I.D. Check. I could advise EVERYONE who is against arbitrary and worthless edicts that they find any other restaurant! read more

I will not be eating here again. To start: we registered as a party of 8. We were told we had to wait for 2 tables in the bar to finish their dining and to wait in the car; they would call us. No problem. One of our party checked in twice to confirm all was moving along and they knew we were waiting. 20 minutes into the waiting time we were told "so sorry. We gave away one of your tables, but 2 of your party can eat at the bar if you want." While we were getting settled a table opened up so we requested and received permission to eat there. The children asked for a virgin strawberry dakari. "Sorry, just used the last of the berries and the rest are frozen. Will have to wait for them to thaw." Ok. We will accept that and will wait. Salads arrived. Can I get some salt? Sure - but it never came. Finally got up and found my own. At our table of 4 we received 2 meals that were consumed before the 2nd 2 meals came out. When we asked why they said "the other 2 meals come out of the other side of the kitchen." Really??? The food was low on flavor thus the need for salt. I don't often use salt with my meals but I had to tonight. If there is a Carinos that has better service and more flavorful food I would recommend you eat there and skip this one. read more

This is your typical Americanized Italian food chain. We were starving when we came in so We ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. They were good, fried breaded cheese is hard to F up. Then we got the complimentary bread and dipping sauce. It's a nice touch. My boyfriend ordered a special of lasagna and steak, they put in really small writing that if you pick that option it's like $4 more or something. Steak was under cooked but we had waited long enough so he said it was fine. Kiddo had chicken fingers. I ordered the salmon over pasta. My dish was lack luster. No real flavor. The only real thing I love about Carinos is their wedge salad. If I return here I will just get the wedge. It's great. It was freezing in the restaurant, to the point that we boxed up as checked out as quick as we could. There's too many good places to eat in Austin to come back here. read more

Ate there yesterday with my family last night. Service was ok in the beginning but in the end, idk what happened. We ordered the Johnny casinos for 2 with the appetizer entree and dessert. Towards the end we had already finished dinner and was waiting for the server to give us our dessert, to go boxes, and check. It took over 15 minutes for the server to come. We had to ask for a different server to get us our to go boxes. I ended up being impatient. I paid in cash not knowing what the total was and didn't even get our dessert and walked out. Disappointed and frustrated in the end. Overall the food was decent. I hope yall can improve your customer service. read more

How would you rate a Restauant that takes your order and never brings your food? That's exactly what happened last night. I was embarrassed and disappointed for inviting my son and his date to dine with us. Unfortunately-it was a disaster. Our waitress was a sweetheart, Emily. She tried her best, but ultimately we could only rate this experience as "poor". We would ask for items --and nothing would happen. Usually we are offered grated cheese on a meal--but nothing. We asked for Red Pepper flakes...no response. We asked for a margarita that was not communicated well to the bartender who then had to come and get clarity from us. This that just caused more delay. We ordered an appetizer luckily and we managed to all share that. My son got his meal late, but the lasagna was undercooked. His date got her meal first, even though we all ordered together...and hers was probably the only thing right. Not one offer was given to us as an apology. In fact, my wife and I were there a whole hour and never received our meals. We got the wrong salad and a soup served to us--we ate it because we were hungry at that point. The tragedy was topped off by our ticket when it came--we were charged for our meals and had to wait again to get that resolved. Where was management? They usually come around and ask how things are--but not this time. Another person named Kim was hustling and tried to bring us some type of service but it was not often enough. We even had some random worker, not sure what role she had, because she only cleaned tables. SHE asked if everything was okay. We said we never got our food...but what authority did she have? It is beyond sad that we could get much of anything right as far as being served. The only positive was- we were able to get out of there without making a scene. Things are usually not bad at Carinos, but it was an "off" night where nothing went right. We even observed other tables having similar issues. I/we can't recommend this place as a great place to go. You are taking a chance. So sad. :( I hope and wish that the manager sees this and has a meeting urgently with staff.
