Truly the best pasta in Austin! Made-from-scratch Italian food just a few steps away from The Vortex theater and Butterfly Bar, this place is a must try. Patrizi's operates from a food truck but has its own well-maintained, shaded eating area that is sooo cute and welcoming. Many are willing to queue for freshly-made scratch cooking of this quality, so lines are common. However, the owner/chef takes great pride in customer service so will regularly be out talking to the people in line, asking if they had any questions, and just chatting. Trust me, once you try Patrizi's, it will be hard to feel the same about your other Italian food sources (unless it's your own or your Mom's). A classic spot off the bustling Manor Road, Patrizi's offers comfort food after a long day. Although I'm a bigger fan of their brick and mortar location, the food truck spot offers more of that classic weird Austin vibe. Found in the Vortex, the outdoor seating is just beautiful and you get to experience all of the events that they have in the space while you dine. I also love to get a drink from the butterfly bar while I wait for my food as their decor is so quirky and fun to look at. On to Patrizi's itself, this is just classic Austin. I always opt to get the pasta and salad combo as I feel it gets you the best bang for your buck. I'm a fan of either the diavolo or the pesto leopold's as both taste so amazing and has that citrus punch that I like. Surprisingly, their salads take the cake for me because they're so refreshing and the ingredients all come together to make a really high-quality salad. I went in with very low expectations (not sure why?!) The sauces were all the excellent and unique. The meatball and chicken were both great additions! The bruschetta with eggplant caponata was delicious! Their bread was so good and then you put the delicious eggplant on top - chef's kiss! They make everything from scratch so it takes a bit to get the food. The Marfa tomato salad was probably the highlight - so good! Wasn't the biggest fan of the pasta type and there was no option to change it. The meatball was +$5 and had a lot of parsley in it. We came around 7pm on a Saturday so it took about 45 mins to get pasta, but you can at least grab a drink at Butterfly Bar and munch on the garlic bread! Stopped by Patrizis on a Friday night with a friend for dinner. Parking is brutal, be prepared to look for street parking a few blocks away. The line is super long - I waited for about half an hour to place my order. Service was so friendly and helpful - they even gave me a complimentary piece of garlic bread as it was my first time, so thoughtful! I ordered the pasta & salad combo - Patrizis salad & Patrizis red sauce. I grabbed a table in the lovely covered patio, and waited another 40 mins for my food. After all the waiting I was starving. Patrizi Salad - 10/10 delicious. Definitely try! Garlic Bread - Chefs kiss! Freshly baked, soft, and topped with fresh flavorful garlic. Patrizi Pasta with Red Sauce - 6/10. So disappointing! The pasta itself was clearly made in house and delicious + fresh but the sauce was underwhelming and way too sweet for my taste. It was a good experience but I expected more. We got the Abbiocco which is meant for two but probably could serve closer to 3 and for $55 is a good deal. It comes with salad, veggie, protein, garlic bread and three half servings of pasta. My favorites were for sure the cacio e Pepe and the pomodoro. The garlic bread has some garlic confit that was a lovely touch. First of all, love the set up of this place. Love how you order at a counter and all the seating is outdoors. The string lights set a nice vibe and there's ample seating. Patrizi's was recommended to me by a friend and it's safe to say that it's going to one that I'll be coming back to. The pasta is freshly made and has a bite very different from boxed pasta. We ordered the carbonara alexandra, lemon thyme pasta, and the garlic bread. The portions were very filling. If you're looking to share food, get a pasta dish and the garlic bread to share and that would be enough. The garlic bread will change your life if you're a garlic fiend like me. Whole chunks of confit garlic on buttery bread. Simply chefs kiss. Get there early at 5:30 when Patrizi opens and save yourself the headache of waiting in line or just order takeout. I went early, had an early dinner, then craved the pasta again the same night and had my leftovers. With everyone eating outside, so are the mosquitos, and there's plenty of them active. There was some mosquito repellent by the water cups, so I'd use some or wear some long sleeves before you decide to dine out. read more

We heard a lot of good things about Patrizi's and had a craving for some good pasta, so we figured we'd drop by. The parking situation isn't too bad as there's a lot of spaces to choose from. You enter a big courtyard that looks pretty nice and there's a ton of seating inside. There's an attached bar as well, so they recommend grabbing a drink while you wait for your food to come out. They have two different areas to sit at, all with misters if you're hot, and one side includes a stage for what is live music or shows at some point. As for the food, we won't sugarcoat it, Patrizi's is not that good. We ordered their pomodoro with a meatball and cacio e pepe with chicken. The pomodoro was not special at all, pretty standard for a pomodoro anywhere, except for the fact this sauce was just missing something and it was pretty thin. The meatball was also strange, not very firm and fell apart way too easily, plus the mix itself tasted a bit odd as there were onions in it. As for the cacio e pepe, it was alright. The pasta was relatively firm and there should have been more cream and cheese in it. The chicken was easily the best part of both dishes as it was moist and seasoned well. Look, the pasta isn't bad, but when you're paying around $20 a plate and the portions are small and they come out on paper plates with plastic utensils, you have a right to critique it. This is one of the rare times in Austin we've gone heavily against the grain and would not recommend you stop by Patrizi's. There's definitely potential but just be wary. read more

Great homemade pasta. Even though the food is served in paper plates and plastic forks, they do the job. The order line can get long at times with slightly longer wait times when it's busy. Best thing to do is to sacrifice a person to the food line and run off to the confusing bathrooms then buy some drinks. The dinner for two is more like a dinner for three. We still had a lot of food left for only about $55 or something. Good way to try everything although some of my favorite pasta choices are not in the dinner for two. Such a great Austin gem! Parking can be a little tricky since it's not a huge parking lot but cars come and go pretty quickly so you may be able to snag a spot (there is also street parking available). PLENTY of outdoor seating (they only have outdoor seating). Don't be intimidated by the long line, there's more than enough tables and seating. The menu is pretty simple but very easy to follow. A little pricey but it's absolutely delicious and you definitely get your money's worth for the portion size. Both plates of pasta were delicious! The Patrizi's Red Sauce was nice and savory and salty and had the perfect pasta to sauce ratio. The Lemon Thyme pasta was heavier than we were expecting, very rich but very flavorful as well. You could honestly share a plate or expect to take home leftovers. Pasta is made fresh daily and has an amazing texture that store bought pasta just doesn't have. The Butterfly Bar next door serves drinks that you can get before or after ordering. Lots of cocktails, wines, beers, and mocktails but all are pretty pricey. Patrizi's does offer free water at different water stations around the outdoor seating area however. A really great happy hour deal in the summer! I got a $5 half-size pasta, $5 garlic bread, and $5 sangria. I ordered the lemon thyme pasta and really enjoyed it. Pasta was al dente and sauce was creamy/well-balanced. The staff was very kind while we waited in line and gave us some recommendations. We only waited for a couple minutes, but we got there pretty soon after they opened on a Tuesday night. By ~5:30pm, the line had gotten pretty long. Not worth the wait on a weekend evening. I've been to the restaurant location in West Austin before so I was looking forward to the food. On a Saturday night, it took 45min-1 hr to order our food, and another 45min-1 hr for our food to arrive. While we were in line, they let us know that they had run out of protein (7pm), so their famous carbonara was off the menu as well as the other dishes that had protein. A couple of people in our party had ordered appetizers, which you would think would come out first, but these still took 30-45minutes to come out. I ordered the Diavolo - first few bites tasted good after the long wait, but it was way too spicy/peppery with not enough cream to balance it out. The ambiance is nice and there are lots of tables to sit at. The metal chairs are uncomfortable though. You help yourself to water from the coolers. Seating is all outdoors and the line can get long. Ambiance is nice in the evening with overhead lights. Service is slightly on the slower side (25-30 min if busy). Carbonara Alexandra ($17, 4/5) - This was the first Patrizi's pasta that I ever tried, and it has a pretty solid combination of pasta with pancetta, coddled egg, gremolata, and cheese. It's definitely on the drier end and is not as creamy as other carbonara versions that I've tried, but I liked the overall flavor. - The gremolata presents more like dry garnishes rather than an actual sauce. Red Sauce ($15.5, 3.5/5) - I thought that this tasted pretty standard with red sauce, pork, herbs, and cheese. Not anything particularly special. Karah's Diavolo ($15.5, 3/5) - Has lemon, egg, rosemary, red chilies, and cheese. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the lemony and more herby flavor, and wouldn't order this one again. Cacio E Pepe ($15, 3/5) - Had so much black pepper to the point where there are literally clumps of black pepper within the pasta. Was the same with my friend's order as well. Not sure if it was just this time, but would not get this one again. Garlic Bread ($7, 4/5) - Comes with three slices of ciabatta bread, topped with garlic confit, black pepper, grana padano cheese, green onions, garlic oil - Great flavor, hefty amount of cheese. Was not as crispy as we would've liked (possibly bc this was takeout) - On the pricier end for garlic bread Overall, Patrizi's is a nice option for casual Italian food, but not spectacular. Their noodles are a bit firmer than al dente, which makes them sometimes taste a tad undercooked (personally would want them to be a little less firm, which is not something I usually think when getting pasta). I have visited twice now, and both experiences were great. The location itself is kind of hidden and you may not be able to find parking right in the lot. I parked a few streets away last time in the residential area. You check out the menus while in line and then place your order at the counter. They give you a number and you go find your seat outside (or there are a couple tables inside the Butterfly Bar). Both visits I got the bruschetta and I am obsessed. This is the most perfect focaccia bread and the toppings changed from the first time I visited to most recently. The eggplant caponata topping is my new favorite. You get 3 large slices and we contemplated getting an extra order to take to go. The pesto is my favorite! I tried half regular pesto and half red pesto, and this time I just got the full order of Leopold's pesto. Delicious. The noodles, the sauce, chef's kiss. My fiance got the carbonara and loved it. Phenomenal first visit to Patrizi's. I've been meaning to try out this pasta palace for a couple of years now, but noodles have never been a #1 food for me, so I'd been putting it off. That said, I may now be a believer because the pasta I was privileged with on this Friday evening was near on life changing. Haha but for real, I was incredibly impressed. The service was fantastic and the wait wasn't bad at ALL. We were expecting it to be rough on a Friday evening, but there was almost no line at all around 6pm. We got the focaccia sampler, a meatball, a side salad, and the Karah's Diavolo (lemon, egg, rosemary, red chilis and grana padano cheese). The pasta was fresh, perfectly sauced, and beautifully presented. We also LOVED that you can order half-portions! The meatball was likewise among the best I've tasted. The focaccia was rich, perhaps could have used a bit higher ratio of toppings to bread, but I'm definitely just looking for areas to be constructive. The seating area was really nice.
