Counted 4 waitresses standing in the back of restaurant and no one attending the front to greet patrons. Took 5 minutes for someone to finally acknowledge people were waiting at the front to be seated. Once the manager came up and asked how many people in our party, I advised the family of 4 were there before us. She proceeded to sit them and then walked back to the back of the restaurant and just stood there watching us. Another waitress came up to the front to bring someone a Togo meal, then immediately turned around ignoring us and walked away. We walked out and headed straight to chili's next door. Pizza was way under cooked, unmelted cheese on top, my girlfriend bit in and there was still dough in the center. Waiter didn't check in on us not once after he served us. Went today for a birthday lunch. We asked for a booth - we were seated right at the front of the restaurant in a half booth (bench and three chairs)-we were a party of six. The food, waitress and overall feeling was good. My only problem was the hostess - she decided to let us know that when she saw us coming in - she felt that there was going to be a problem. Once her feelings were not justified, she felt like telling us and adding to not judge a book by its cover. What a racist thing to say and ignorance is not bliss! Went for a family style dinner and the service was horrendous. There was no barkeep which is understandable with COVID--businesses can be short staffed. When someone was able to show up, I ordered a Corona Seltzer. Didn't have it. I ordered a Corona Premier. Keg tapped. I order a Coors Light and all foam. Ended up getting a Pacifico. The barkeep hands me my beers and proceeds to walk away. I stood there for about two minutes and he never came back lol so I just went to my table and he tracked me down maybe 15 minutes later to give me the bill. If this were Bar Rescue I'd have Jon Taffer shut that bar down and have them serve food only.... Until I had the food. The fettuccini Alfredo and lasagna were extremely underwhelming. It felt like I was eating a microwaveable frozen Italian dinner with how bland it was. It's been many years since I have eaten here. I thought I'd try it out again. Disappointing experience.... again. Over 2 hours to complete a simple meal and $90.00 poorer. The calamari appetizer was fresh. The cesar salad was ok. My house lasagna was decent. The spicy shrimp linguini was good. The tiramisu too sweet. The sangria aweful. We come here often for date nights. I love this place. I can't vouch for every item on their menu because I tend to order the same dishes regularly which usually include some form of spicy pasta and it is always delicious. The most recent time we came here they were extremely busy, so we ended up with a table near the bar area and our waiter/bartender did a great job at taking care of us. Beers, Beers and Beers! Beers has always been Johnny's Carino's strong point in my opinion and each visit continues to further that belief. Besides appetizers, I've yet to find a dish I would recommend to anyone here. For appetizers...mozzarella sticks and Sicilian fire sticks are recommended easily. I gave their Italian wings a shot for the first time and I'm currently a 50/50 on them. The sriracha habanero wings were decent. They're not very spicy but does have a good citrus flavor. The Cajun on the other hand, avoid at all cost! I'm not sure who decided to sell those off as Cajun wings but I'd strongly suggest heading back to the drawing board. I'm a guy who likes to taste all seasonings/flavors of anything I eat. I don't proceed to use any dipping sauces nor additional seasonings without tasting a dish's original flavors first. This applies to fries as well. That was the problem with the Cajun wings. There was no original flavor; they were bland to the max and could use any and every additional seasoning/sauce it could get. I usually try giving a dish another shot somewhere down the line but once is good enough for me. This doesn't take away from the visit as a whole. Came here on a Tuesday around 1:30 pm pretty much dead with 2 other tabLes. My waiter was very nice and kept refilling my drink. I ordered the lasagna since the Alfredo sauce is from a bag since I asked if they made it from scratch and also the waiter do I'd not know what was in Alfredo anyway. The lasagna came out hot but the sauce was a little weird tasting like it was slightly sour and the was no ricotta in it and on scale of 10 this was about a 4. Nice decor, big kitchen but the food is not that good. Also the bread was old and stale. Don't think I will be back. PLEASE READ: If you are the owner, manager, or customer. You guys need to improve. Your employees are very friendly, the prices are very reasonable, however, it is not properly managed. What everyone says about your restaurant is TRUE. The service is horrible because they are severely understaffed and poorly managed. Do not sit people if they cannot be served. Let them wait in the waiting area. DO NOT KEEP SITTING PEOPLE! Your employees looked stressed the entire time and need more help. This can easily be solved by either staffing an extra 1-2 people for a short shift or simply having customers wait in the waiting area. We could have easily had our food after 10 min of placing our order, but it sat on the counter for another 20 min after that. 30 min of just sitting there. Our drinks came 30 min after being sat as well. The cooked food sits on the counter and gets cold because the manager is on the floor taking orders and being a server instead of being a food expediter and manager. Our food came back cold as if it was taken from the refrigerator. The price was justified by the fast food taste. This was not restaurant quality food. This was our first time there. Maybe it was an off day for them or someone called out sick. Our server offered us a discount but didn't even give it to us. Whatever the case may be, this place is a joke! read more

So we got there right when they opened. While yelp states they are open at 11 they actually open at 11:30 I did mentioned this to the manager. The restrooms were clean and the decor of the restaurant was very cute. The food overall was ok. The calamari was cooked perfectly but the seasoning was not all that great. Even the red sauce needed something more. We had the family style which states it feeds 2-3 people but we were 5 and we all ate. I went to this restaurant for the first time with my girlfriend to have some dinner. There's was a thirty five minutes of waiting time at first as it was on the weekend and you know everyone wants to go eat out on the weekends. First thing the drinks were ice cold. Then we ordered our food. The soup was delicious of the flavor of potatoes. I had ordered the Johnny combo which is pretty packed of what it comes with and that's not including the other orders that we had placed. Overall everything was good. Though the noises from conversions were fine, the cooks with their chatting about the orders was fine, the music playing was kind of low, but it was still tell what song it might. Now the television had some football game playing with no sound and it was good, but they decided to turn up the volume after the game ended and the recaps of the game was going and that volume was a bit too loud, especially if you were sitting in front of the television. Absolutely the WORST customer service! Came in 50 mins before "closing" only to be told that they were not serving anyone inside anymore. If you close at 11 on a Saturday but are turning dine in customers away and only offering take-out, with no updated hours or signs posted for the customer to know, how are you going to have such an attitude with someone who came to your restaurant for service? When I called the restaurant to speak to a manager, Jasmine, gave me no explanation other then they were closing early. Then proceeded to say, Well what? Do you want to come back? ummmm why would I come back to your restaurant when there are so many other options so close to yours in Downey, who not only enjoy serving guests but are so much nicer and definitely more professional. If I could give no stars I would. And that's based on the attitudes of the employees. Johnny Carinos, you were one of my favorite restaurants, it was nice knowing you! The food is honestly some of the most authentic Italian food around the Downey area and the prices are not expensive at all. The inside is nice and cozy and there are many TV's which provide a great atmosphere when there is a game on. The service was good and very fast. Tonight I went with my family for a dinner. Everything was going good until we got our Tiramisu. From first look you could notice it was extremely soggy but we decided to still try it & that was the worse decision! The worst Tiramisu that I have ever tasted. Besides being really soggy, it was drenched in alcohol. It did not have any coffee flavor. We processed to inform the waitress which she kindly apologized and took back and said she not charge us for them. Then she came back saying that the manager was still going to charge us for one because we had ate some and it was not whole, which is completely observe because how were we suppose to know that it was going to be disgusting and not appropriate for a 14 year old to continue to consume. Then the general manager cane and concours with the other managers statement. We tried to explain her the pieces that were served to us were not the same & that is not how a tiramisu is suppose to taste but she would not let her pride down. So I went ahead and told her, okay well if we are still being charge then why not just give us another dessert as a replacement but she refused and she went to say that we were lying that every piece is the same size. That appalled all of us that a general manager, that your company chose to represent the restaurant, that is suppose to solve any situation and put customer first said that to a paying customer. I informed her that I was not aware that we had to take individual photos of all our food and guess how it's going to taste before we consumes it. She said we still had to pay, that all restaurants do the same thing, once you consume you have to pay and can not return. Ordered a lasagna and cheese ravioli with Alfredo sauce. Lasagna was too salty I couldn't finish it. When it came it felt it was a little over done, but it was okay until it tasted too salty. It was the meat sauce that was not it for me. Maybe it was just this time, not sure but for almost $25 for both.. not it :/ the cheese ravioli had an odd taste, I think I would use bitter to describe it but it wasn't entirely bitter just a hint of it and it seemed like I got left overs unfortunately. The ravioli was a bit hard on some but the ones that were done well, were better. Great potential, work on execution of flavors. If the price is that much around $50 it should meet the price. Well, it's been two years since we've been here to have dinner and the server was good ( Thanks Roman ) but after two years you would think things would have improved as far their food but unfortunately it has not. We live one block away. Food is bland and the pizza I ordered, the crust was burnt and I don't like sending food back so they can mess with it. However I did convey this to our server who was not only waiting on tables but he also had to clean off tables as well, I'm really surprised this establishment is still open. Let me tell you guys why i am rating this place 5 stars! We decided to check out this place bec of the promo that was sent to us via mail. They had a promo for a steak meal! And it didn't disappoint us! First of all, the service is good! The food is great! My wife ordered steak with pasta and i ordered steak with fries! Let me tell you that the pasta is really good with freshly grated parmasean cheese on top as you desired! The complimentary bread is freshly baked and really warm perfect partner for balsamic and oil! Yum! For kids' meal, the sundae ice cream was included and it was a big serving! of ice cream!!! My son loved it! They even let my son took a picture of the chef as we requested for my son's school project! They are so approachable and generous of their time! To be fair my review is only regarding service because I never actually got to eat here. We arrived at noon on a Sunday. There were only 2-3 servers in the entire restaurant but also there were only 2-3 tables. There had been a gentleman waiting at the hostess stand prior to us walking in (not sure how long he was there) as we proceeded to wait in front of the hostess stand for 10min no one ever came to seat us or even mention that they will be right with us, just blank stares and continuing to put dishes away, pour refills, etc. So I went to the restroom and left my party to wait to be seated, making eye contact with a couple of servers on the way.... I return from the restroom to find my party and the same man still waiting .... needless to say we walked next door to chili's. read more
