We had the fried oysters. They were kinda fishy tasting. Not the best. The crab stuffed shrimp was good but not great. The bbq ribs and chicken wings were very good. Service was NOT good. Our waitress kept going off in a corner to talk with one after another person. We had to hunt her down after waiting 20 minutes for our check. This was after going to find her to ask for take out containers and asking for our check. The restaurant has a cool decor and a lot of TV's for sports watching. Let's talk about french fries, because at Johnny Longboats they used to be the whole point. The sandwiches are genuinely good, but that was never really the draw. The draw was knowing that no matter what you ordered, the fries were going to be great. That was the Saturday afternoon promise after a paddle to Peanut Island. Not anymore. The fries have been swapped for generic frozen ones that taste worse than fast food, and honestly, worse than what you'd get at a $6 burger joint. They are unseasoned & like plastic.... When you're paying $22+ for a sandwich, the fries used to be the reason you kept coming back. Right now they're the reason people are second guessing coming in the first place....As a local and as a loyal patron, thats sad & unfortunate. There are some items on the menu that have remained reasonable like the French dip sandwich for $19, but the last time I got it, the quantity of meat felt reduced by a third so whether they reduced the prices or the quantity, they have made some major changes in the last month or two. The pricing changes make it sting even more. The grouper bites, once a happy hour favorite at $8.99, are now on the main menu at $18.99. Side salads went from $11.99 to $15.99, and add a protein and you're suddenly paying $26-$34 for what is still, technically, a side salad. Meanwhile Ocean Avenue just opened down the street with a scratch kitchen, fresh cut fries, and house made juices, quietly raising the bar for the whole island. Johnny Longboats used to be our automatic answer for where to go after a beach day. Right now it's a hard sell, and it all started with the fries. read more

Johnny Longboat's has been a tradition for us since we bought our first Marriott Vacation Club points in 2010. We have visited JLB every time we're in Palm Beach Shores at least once, usually multiple times. In the past, we have enjoyed their happy hour. They've offered very well priced drinks and appetizers. The happy hour appetizers included a variety of seafood appetizers. The choices were reduced and not very well priced this time. They have some daily specials. My husband noticed a sign that said "oysters, a bulk a hulk." He didn't notice the word "Wednesday " at the top in much smaller print. It was a Thursday and our 6 oysters cost $20.99. We each got 2 happy hour well drinks and shared 6 oysters and an order of fried oysters and the total cost was $75. The clincher was when I noticed they charged us for using a credit card. We live in a cashless society. I won't eat at restaurants that charge for credit cards. read more

Eaten here a few times over the years ands it's always a bit of mixed feelings. Love the beachy theme and colors in the restaurant. However this place is inconsistent. Food one day is delicious, while next is super bland. This recent visit, food was pretty good. Mahi was delicious! But our service was not good. Took soooooo long for our waiter to take our orders, and he barely spoke to us and didn't check in until we were all done with our food and had been waiting for awhile. I say this all because your experience here genuinely is unpredictable. You could have a kitchen staff that's amazing...or not so much...you could have a server who's attentive and friendly... or not so much. This is a great corner restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and out. We sat outside and quickly got water and had a drink order taken. I was just getting over the flu and wanted something comforting and easy on the stomach so I settled on chicken quesadillas. The menu is extensive but these looked the perfect fit. They arrived looking good, but first bite told me I ordered the wrong thing. The chicken was spicy and I was afraid I would upset my stomach worse so didn't eat more than one bite. So disappointing as I hadn't eaten in 3 days and wanted something good. I double checked the menu and it did not mention spices in the chicken. Half a cup of mystery buffalo dip for $19.99 is absolutely criminal. I also had the JLB Caribbean Mahi Wrap and ordered it with 'vegetables' only to be told the vegetables were just green beans. That's fine, but there needs to be more transparency because 'vegetables' makes it sound like you have a mix of veggies. When my dish came out, the green beans were thrown loosely onto the plate like an afterthought, and my wrap was swimming in green bean water. It made the wrap so soggy I couldn't even pick it up. My husband had the special: lobster roll. It wasn't great. Lots of mayo. I had the Cabo wabo burger. That was pretty good. Just lacked salt. We sat at the bar. The service was decent. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is super spacious and ideal for large groups. Our waitress was a little spacey, but it was towards the end of the night and the place was still packed. Johnnys consistency in underwhelming has to be commended. I've eaten there a half dozen times over the 10 years we've been coming down to Singer Island and I can't say any meal was ever any good. This year's iteration was overcooked (thus dry) mahi fish tacos that included two small pieces of blackened mahi (ha! There was nothing blackened about them) on a giant tortilla that is typically used for a burrito. My son did love his chicken tenders so maybe the key at this seafood restaurant is to order white meat but my in laws Cesar salad and shrimp scampi were both incredibly overdressed. Sauce trying to make up for meh food Ambience is cool and my kids love the claw game. But I'd rather eat potato chips I buy at 7-11 than depend on Johnny for a good meal. read more

The server didn't thank us after we settled the bill, and using the electronic payment machine felt awkward as the waitress hovered nearby. It would be better if servers stepped away while guests are completing the payment, as is typical with traditional payment systems. Another note: they charge a 2.97% fee for credit card payments, which is worth keeping in mind. As for the ambiance, it was overall pleasant--not too loud, with a relaxed vibe. It has a good menu, lots of options and it's super casual, perfect for an easy night out or a stop after the beach. They have really good cheeseburgers. Love this place! It is a perfect dive bar. Their clams were so good my friends literally went back the next day and got them again! The place is full of funny signs and pirate statues and boat/ nautical decor. The menu is extensive and they can accommodate some dietary restrictions. It is a bit pricey but it is right on the beach, so that's fair. Staff is a pleasure. Bathrooms are ok. Parking is annoying but you can find it, you just may have to walk a little. Negative stars....the service was obviously focused on tourism so they assumed that since we were tourists that we did not matter. The local business is what matters to this business. The service was not attentive and our server chose to eat dinner instead of checking on us throughout our meal. We had to ask multiple different people for silverware and silverware did not come until past 5 minutes after getting our meal. A server told us "I don't know who your server is but I will make sure you are taken care of." After we told them our side both the manager and the server did not hear our side and lost interest once we said we were tourists. At the end there was a confrontation and he, the manager Tony, said when we left "you need to learn how to control that" speaking about my sister and I.
